The Nigerian Army said it would provide security for election materials and officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) during and after the forthcoming elections. Brig.-Gen. Koko Essien, Commander, 2 Brigade Port Harcourt, disclosed this on Thursday while addressing newsmen in Port Harcourt. He said the Army was willing to deploy troops on ground and on waterways to subvert any form of ballot box snatching and violence at the request of INEC. “We have a mandate to support the success of these elections, and so, my men will provide security to INEC officials and materials on ground and waterways in a constitutional manner. “Come March 28 and April 11, people should feel free and come out to vote any candidate of their choice because we are working with other sister security services to provide a top notch security. According to Essien, the military and particularly the Army, will not condone any act of political thuggery by anyone in the state to subvert the forthcoming elections. He urged the people to come out en-masse and participate in the elections, saying that security would be tight. Essien, who recently assumed Command of the Brigade, said the army had adopted new strategies to be able to drastically reduce oil theft, pipeline vandalism and rising cult activities in the state. He called for media partnership and support in the fight against oil theft and pipeline vandalism in the state. http://www.pmnewsnigeria.com/2015/02/19/army-promise-deployment-of-troops-to-rivers-during-elections/ |

Chadian forces that recently put the Boko Haram insurgents on the defensive in towns and villages along Nigeria’s borders with neighbouring Niger Republic are using weapons that are not in any way better than what the Nigerian troops abandoned when they fled in captured territories, Sunday Trust learnt from witnesses yesterday. Chadian troops had between last Wednesday and Thursday driven over 100 kilometres into the Nigerian territory and chased away hundreds of Boko Haram insurgents who took over Mallam Fatorii and Abadam, two prominent towns near the border between Nigeria and Niger in northern part Borno State. They reportedly launched aerial reconnaissance and ground operations, a development that forced the Boko Haram militants to flee. Nigerians who are taking refuge in Diffa and Bosso across Niger said they were surprised when they saw the arms and ammunitions deployed by the Chadian troops and succeeded in killing many Boko Haram fighters and forcing others to flee. “Honestly speaking, the arms used by the Chadian troops are not as good as the ones Nigerians soldiers have,” said Yusuf Toroma, a Nigerian who is now living in Bosso. “I am a Nigerian but I have two wives, one living with her children in Bosso and the other one living in Mallam Fatori together with her children, so, I know what is happening here...Nigerian soldiers have better weapons than Chad’s but it seems something is fundamentally wrong with the counter-insurgency operations by the Nigerian military,” Toroma, who spoke by phone said. “The Chadian troops went to Mallam Fatori, conquered the terrorists, lowered their flags and are currently mopping up ordinance buried by the invaders. They told us that in the next couple of days, we would go back to our countries. “Surprisingly, most of the troops from Chad had AK-47 rifles, some have machine guns and others anti-aircraft guns which they mounted on their shoulders. Even the fighter jets they used were not in any way different from the ones we normally see the Nigerian Air Force use in surveillance. The only difference is that the one used by the Chadians dropped bombs mercilessly on the Boko Haram and it took hours doing the same thing,” he said. www.dailytrust.com.ng/sunday/index.php/news/19505-chadian-forces-fighting-boko-haram-with-less-sophisticated-weapons |

INEC: Elections won’t hold in Borno, Yobe, Adamawa unless... The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says it will not deploy its staff for the conduct of elections in the troubled states of Borno, Yobe and Adamawa unless their (staff’s) security is guaranteed. The chief press secretary to INEC Chairman Professor Attahiru Jega, Mr. Kayode Idowu, stated this last night while featuring on a Channels Television programme tagged “Politics Today” which was monitored by our correspondent. Idowu noted that INEC had always expressed its readiness to conduct elections in all states of the federation, including the three states ravaged by the Boko Haram insurgency. He, however, said the commission was optimistic that the security challenges in the three states would be appropriately handled by the security forces for elections to hold there. He said: “The commission’s position has always been that the security of every staff to be deployed, either adhoc or permanent, has to be guaranteed by the security agencies and that is why the commission has always said that it will work in close collaboration with the security agencies to make sure that for it to deploy its staff to these areas, the security agencies will have to be on top of the game,” he said. http://dailytrust.com.ng/daily/news/44085-inec-elections-won-t-hold-in-borno-yobe-adamawa-unless |

While coming down from the African forest i saw the burning government house.Beside it was an African child who happened to be d only son before good governance died.He was caged in underdevelopment,tongue-tied,crying and dying.I said to him weep not child when leadership in Africa nosedives, things fall apart and Africa is no longer at ease, especially now that ebola is on the war with West Africa and humanity. Before leaving there i said to the African child:if you the hapless child(follower) and the shameless leaders cannot settle the disputes between ebola, poverty, insecurity and bad governance, then the gods are not to blame as this our chance to seek medicine for corruption and underdevelopmen n not only ebola becos enough is enough especially now that african leadership has gone mad again. |

National dialogue: NLC backs Jonathan, wants unity OCTOBER 14, 2013 BY FIDELIS SORIWEI, ABUJA Leave a Comment President of the NLC, Mr. Abdulwahed Omar | credits: File copy The Nigeria Labour Congress has said that the forthcoming national dialogue should strengthen national unity and promote democratic governance in the country. Acting National Secretary of the NLC, Mr. Chris Uyot, said in an electronic mail on Sunday that the NLC was not against the national dialogue but expected it to impact positively on the citizenry and ensure the defence of the nation’s sovereignty. Uyot said in the mail, “The Nigeria Labour Congress has found it necessary to state in unambiguous terms its position on the proposed national conference. “The Congress is not opposed to any form of national dialogue or conference or conversation as long as it is geared towards improving the quality of life of the Nigerian people, strengthen the bonds of unity, advance the cause of democracy, build our economy, create an enabling environment for the expression of our shared values and common heritage as well as defend our sovereignty.” He said that it was the position of labour that Nigerians held regular dialogue on issues of collective concern to them, arguing that the frequent national dialogue involving the well being of the country should hold not only at the federal level but also at the state, local government and ward levels. However, Uyot insisted that while the motive behind the conference was important. “A meaningful dialogue can be achieved by men and women of character, wisdom, integrity, patriotism as well as courage, and not charlatans or hirelings,” he said. He recalled that the NLC was part of the “national conference” under the military and the civilian administration of President Olusegun Obasanjo and offered alternative views during the period. “It has no reason to shy away from any conference now. For the avoidance of doubt, the Congress believes Nigerians should regularly talk to themselves as well as talk to one another. “The constituent parts should as often as practicable sit down to talk, to address the ills that plague our politico-socio-economic well-being, not only at the federal level but right to the village square,” he added. ASUU STRIKE CALLED OFF!; congratulations to all university students, just about an hour ago the ASUU chairman broke the announcement, which is considered a big one for all university students. After calling off the strike, the media went ahead to ask if the federal government has met the demands of ASUU. Out of dismay, the ASUU chairman shook his head and said he was disappointed with the media more than he his with the FG, saying the media formed a deaf ear to the strike, that an average Nigerian does not know that universities are on strike. He condemned the media's lack of publicity. After expressing his anger he went ahead to say that the Government is doing nothing concerning our demands, even after a closed door meeting with the education minister where the President said he has so many issues to deal with now than to start spending more money on universities. After the meeting however, the chairman of the newly formed party ACP called the chairman of ASUU to a meeting with ACN, CPC, and the AFGAN governor who promised ASUU that they would give ear to ASUU's demand and will do more- one of which every student will be given a bursary award which is to cover 50% of every student fee, that is, for spending 5 years in the universities. 2 years fee would be paid by FG, and every student who graduates with first class would stand a chance to do their masters in canada, while those with lower credit and pass would continue their study in South Africa and Ghana respectively. Also, salary of VC's would be increased by 90%. After this meeting, the ASUU chairman called off the strike asking all students to resume at their various schools on the first week of June 2015, that about 2 years time, of course after voting in ACP. Its so sad that you sat down and read all this poo, that means you are as jobles. Men, go find work. This strike would last more than we thought. |
LETTER TO DSTV ON BBA FROM AFRICA YOUTH. I urge and plead with All Africa Youths, let's ask DSTV to give Us a BBA where Africa Youths go and discuss, profer solution to solve Africa Problems not this morally loosed show where single parents who can't keep their relationships go into the house to show their fallen breast, drug addicts, porn stars , ill mannered people mix up and get rewarded. Ha! Having sex in the public with somebody who is not your spouse? God have mercy ! The demon of sexual immorality has etched its ugly head into the show, hence the next sane option is to nip the programme in the bud. The BBA is all about immoral behaviour and that is why it attracts lots of fans. They even prefer open sex every day. There is no single thing to learn from the programme, they just promote sex and immorality. It's time we ignore it & speak up against it, for what it's worth. How long does it take to imbibe a habit? 21 days; and BBA runs for 90days, subtly making people addicts to bad habits. Say No to TV shows without value. Reality shows with immorality is a No No!!!!!!
