PoliticsKano Govt Ban Streets Begging by ebgbest(op): 4:52pm On May 26, 2013
Few reports could be more cheering than the report of Kano State government banning street begging and even proposing to extradite beggars from the state to their states of origin. It takes a lot of guts and a strong political will to contemplate such a policy. Other states, where begging has become a nuisance and an annoying barrier to children’s education, would do well to take a similar step for the sake of our collective sanity and security.

Begging is strongly frowned upon in Islam. Those who allow it or even remotely encourage it do so for their own personal gains and greed; they are the people that have deliberately decided to misinterpret the teachings of Islam. In fact, there are people who have decided to make a career out of it. Of course, this desire stems from sheer laziness, aversion to hard work and a wanton zeal for exploitation of fellow human beings.

There are, however, those who have been forced to engage in this degrading, undignified act because the system has failed them and they cannot find succour anywhere else. This last category applies mostly to children who are forced into almajiranci by their parents or guardians under the guise of seeking religious knowledge.

In most cases, it is an abdication of parental and community responsibility, a fallout of a western civilisation that has failed to integrate fully a society that was already built on its own principles. While it was convenient for the colonialists to adapt its structures for indirect rule, it was not considered important to adapt those same structures to western ideals for a robust and productive system; instead, there was an attempt to destroy existing institutions with great potential.

The whole system of begging actually found an outlet as a result of the colonial system exploiting it for itself, and the succeeding independent governments failing to domesticate laws for the purpose of our collective development.

Nevertheless, the menace that begging has become cannot be excused. It is the duty of government to address this problem especially as concerns those children who, for no fault of theirs, are exposed very early in life to all kinds of abuse and difficulty.

The government and people of Kano State should back up this pronouncement with a legislation that will holistically address child abuse and make “integrated” education compulsory for every child of school age. The world is changing; only foolish people would refuse to change with it and then be left behind. One of the ways to discourage begging is by letting potential victims have enough knowledge to help them appreciate the choices before them and to make the right choice in life.

Nairaland GeneralVirgin Auction Morphs Into Reality TV Series by ebgbest(op): 5:29pm On May 25, 2013
Losing your virginity — a once-in-a-lifetime event — may soon become a weekly affair.

Australian filmmaker Justin Sisely became a controversial figure last year when he began filming Virgins Wanted, a documentary film project where a man and a woman auction off the rights to first access of their private parts.

It was originally supposed to be a feature-length documentary. Now, Sisely is promoting it as a reality TV series, which is set to debut at MIPCOM, an entertainment trade fair in October in Cannes, France.

"It is now a factual series," Sisely said to The Huffington Post by email. "We have signed a distribution contract with a leading global multi-national distributor of television content."

The worldwide publicity juggernaut surrounding the virgin auction has stroked Sisely's entreprenuerial spirit and he is hoping to create a franchise.

"We are looking into a 'VW 2' due to the large amounts of emails we are still recieving from virgins and potential bidders looking for virgins all over the globe. (At least 50 per week)," he told Huff Post. "We have recieved over 500 videos of men and women from all over the world outlining why they should be the next virgin to auction their virginity."

The "Virgins Wanted" project has been arousing controversy and skepticism since it was first announced in May, 2010, but things climaxed in October after it was revealed that Catarina Migliorini, the female virgin, reportedly received a winning bid of $780,000 for her virginity from a Japanese man known as "Natsu."

Migliorini's male counterpart, Alex Stepanov, only received a top bid of $3,000. The bid came from an Australian woman identifying herself as "Kasandra Darlinghurst."

Since then, Sisely has kept information about the two close to the vest, but at a spot on the website marking the days Migliorini remains a virgin, there is now only this symbol: "—." No such marker exists for Stepanov.

Medical experts raised their eyebrows at Sisely's claim that there were tests that could prove whether someone is a virgin.

PoliticsJang Resume As NGF Chairman After Lossing Election by ebgbest(op): 4:45pm On May 25, 2013
GOVERNORS' Forum Election.
Plateau state Governor, Jonah Jang Resumes As Chairman.

The Plateau state Governor, Jonah Jang holds inaugural meeting as NGF Chairman today with 18 Governors were in attendance.

Chief Jonah D. Jang, this morning started work as the new chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum (NGF) when he presided over the Forum’s meeting in Abuja, the Nigerian capital.
Eighteen state governors attended the meeting which just ended at the Benue State Governor’s Lodge.

Addressing the media after the meeting, Jang thanked Nigerian Governors for the confidence reposed in him to serve them as the Chairman of NGF and pledged to work for the interest of the Forum and country. Both Jang and Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi are claiming victory in yesterday’s election of the NGF in Abuja.

In a communiqué of this morning’s meeting signed by Governor Jang and his Deputy, the Governor of Ondo State, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, they vowed to unite members of the NGF, and work for the unity of the country.

The NGF in the communiqué restated “its commitment to continue being a platform for peer review, productive and collaborative engagement with all levels of governments.”

It also resolved to continue to encourage and collaborate with President Goodluck Jonathan to restore peace and security in the country and to secure a befitting permanent secretariat outside any Governor’s Lodge.

Addressing the media, the Deputy Chairman of the Northern Governors’ Forum, Dr. Gabriel Suswam of Benue State, said in an earlier meeting of the Forum presided over by Governor Babangida Aliyu of Niger State, they had unanimously adopted Governor Jang as the consensus Chairman and they stood by that decision.

PoliticsAmaechi Re-elect As NGF Chairman by ebgbest(op): 9:17pm On May 24, 2013
Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State has been re-elected chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF).

Amaechi won by 19-16 votes defeating the consensus candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Plateau State Governor, Air Commodore Jonah David Jang.

The governor of Gombe state was absent at the election.

Jang, a late entrant into the race was put forward today by the Northern States Governors Forum (NSGF), following the withdrawal of both Governor Isa Yuguda of Bauchi state and Governor Ibrahim Shema of Katsina State from the chairmanship race.

A press statement released by Amaechi shortly after the election read: “Today our democracy was tested and proven. Democracy is about participation. The aim of democratic governance is for everyone to partake in winning.

“Today the governors have spoken with one voice reaffirming our faith in democratic governance as the hope of Nigeria’s future. I must thank my colleagues for their tenacity and determination to ensure the unity of the forum but more importantly of our nation.

“We remain committed to supporting our leader, the president and commander in chief of the armed forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan to realize the development dream of all Nigerians by reducing tension, uncertainty and insecurity in our beloved country.

“We want to pledge our steadfastness and resolve working alongside Mr. President to better the lives of our people as we render transparent and accountable stewardship.

“Finally our thanks go to all those who have patiently endured these times especially our constituents and members of the fourth estate of the realm who have followed these elections with keen interest. We promise that we will not betray the confidence you have reposed in us. Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, CON, Governor, Rivers State”
PoliticsEl-Rufai Can't Find Jobs For His Daughters by ebgbest(op): 4:51am On May 24, 2013
Former Federal Capital Territory minister, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, on Thursday bemoaned the spate of unemployment in the country, saying despite his connections, he had yet to secure jobs for his two daughters, who are both holders of Masters Degrees.

El-Rufai said this while delivering a lecture at the Sixth Annual Alao Aka-Bashorun Lecture, organised by the Nigerian Bar Association, Ikeja Branch.

The former minister, whose lecture was entitled Impunity, Injustice and Insecurity: What Role for the Law,' said Nigeria needed to create three million jobs yearly to tackle its employment problem.

He said, "Forty-two per cent of Nigerian youths are unemployed.

"I have two daughters with Masters Degrees and they are unemployed. They have been at home for more than a year and I cannot get a job for them.

"We are sitting on a demographic time bomb and unless we have visionary leaders that are able to plan for the future, we will have a huge problem."

According to him, the Nigerian government is spending N2bn daily on security, instead of investing in infrastructure and human capital development.

El-Rufai queried the N100bn Amnesty Programme of the Federal Government, saying it had not solved the problem of pipeline vandalism and oil theft in the Niger Delta region.

He said, "Our oil production output is at its lowest since 2009 as a result of oil theft and closure of facilities by oil companies.

"That is why the government is borrowing more than ever and dipping into the nation's foreign reserves."

The former FCT minister added that granting amnesty to people who take up arms against the state would not solve the problem of insecurity in Nigeria.

"Even if you grant amnesty to Boko Haram, without addressing the fundamental issues such as lack of opportunities, poverty and social injustice, it will not solve the problem," he said.

Also speaking at the event, Prof. Akin Oyebode, advocated life imprisonment for corrupt public officials as a way of reducing the high incidence of corruption in the country.

His lecture was entitled, 'Corruption and Insecurity in the Society: What Role for the Law?'

TIME TO ACT DECISIVELY

At last it looks like PresiDUNCE JoNOTHING is turning into PRAISEident JonACTION. A State of Emergency in BURNo and neighbouring States. He has now turned amNASTY into ARMYnesty. NO holds barred. Blast the BOKO Harassers back to the Stone Age together with all those harbouring them. Let us see whether the blabbing Northern MUZZLEims will keep trying to muzzle free speech and free action and keep blaming JTF for collateral damage, rather than blaming the bastards causing violent action to be taken. Let them keep blaming OGA AT THE TOP for what their Greedy EMIRS, SHEHUS, SULTANS, MADllams, SINators, RAPEresentatives and GoVAINors heaped on them with poor education and a twisted religious doctrine. Abi Dubai and Malaysia no get Islam? Mcheeew!

It will seem for once that senseless ranting from a senseless man makes sense ... Dokubo knows what he is saying when he says we in the South will accept no more Northern threats and determination to rule. If they dont want to be grateful for Niger Delta, Igbo and Youruba Oil and keep demanding it as of right and demanding to rule, as a right, then the answer must be NO and if they wish they can go create a separate country and find their own Oil. The Oil in the ground belongs to the Ethnic groups in which the Oil is found, and if we must share it as a Nation, then those that dont have must show some gratitude and grace - not hector and demand.

The CiroMADS, I Be Beasts, BOOharis and all those HOWLsa and Fulani MUZZLEims drunk on Southern Oil, and who threatened to make this country ungovernable, must be told in no certain terms that we are a Democracy not DEMONcrazy. No more ARMYtwisting for Northern Candidates and Military Coups. We will tolerate it NO LONGER. We will follow whoever we decide will bring progress whether Fashola (A Yoruba AGAIN? Who Cares), Okorocha, Oshiomole, Amaechi (PDP), Ribadu or even the self-serving El Rufai - whoever is good - let them come forward to rule in the NAME of our Nation - and our votes must decide.

It is high time Nigeria was pursued with the vision, energy and innovation of our Film and Music Industry, where we celebrate Genevieve, Omosexy, Tuface, P-Square, D'Banj, Wizkid, Bracket, Timaya, Duncan Mighty, Jeremy Gayang - without knowing their tribes or religion - young people making international waves for us; while a group of young, crazy, mad mullahs are messing our names internationally, and damaging our opportunities, with mass murder and mayhem in the name of the twisted ideologies of Arab Imperialism.

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!!

Danka7777: '\

What is wrong with you? What country have you been living in? Haven't you been following the "Military Joint Task Force" use of force on them; has it been working? Come on man, the change of strategy is a welcome development. If you still insist on using force and more lives being lost, I have no problem with that but would have to conscript you into the military, have you join the JTF and lead the fight, militarily?

Dasuki is an IBB boy. Groomed for most of his military service on solid intelligence and security. He knows how to approach this and who to contact to bring this under control. You think this is an easy job: you see this guy metaphorically is not afraid to ride the camel to dialogue with his kinsmen. Adeze "Aziza" whatever is name is, sat his fat ass in the Villa.

The positions of NSA and Minister of defense should be left to the northerners. This is their expertise. Don't ask me why because they have ruled this country for more than 40 yrs and understand the dynamics of the country. I am awaiting the appointment of Maj. General Akilu, another IBB boy as minister of defense. He is currently being vetted. These people alone can solve this Boko Haram problem through "intelligence" not "militarily". Jonathan has been advised on this and he is bringing IBB boys in full throttle.

Ask Obasanjo why he chose another IBB boy, Gusau as NSA. If you think you can run this country without IBB's assistance, it will not work and Jonathan is understanding now. So bring them on board. Hilltop Villa in Minna is the de facto Nigerian Intelligence Headquarter.

Some facts
IBB in 1986 founded the nation security system below and still have 80% of his boys still running it today:

State Security Service (SSS) - Responsible for domestic intelligence
National Intelligence Agency (NIA) - Responsible for Foreign intelligence and counterintelligence operations
Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA) - Responsible for military intelligence

on point man..... Bt wat happen next when people from other zone say mid-belt, the massob, opc decide to raise their arm against the government again...... Why can our government ask for help from other nation
