Thank you.

ojeysky:
Hmm.... actually i think oversizing by almost 50% maybe too much(budget wise) so just do 280 X 4 or something like your present one of 300 X 4. You should be fine with the Voc at 2s2p
Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by ebocoms: 2:33pm On Nov 02, 2020
Thank you @ojeysky for the reply. That mean I can run 1.5KW panel above the 1000w limit of the hybrid inverter if the VOC is within limit. My present 300w panel VOC is 43.6V.

ojeysky:
1. A 60A constant charging will get it full within 5hrs but as it's sun rays you never can get constant current and I also see that your max PV of your hybrid is 45A anyway so I think you can just put max 1.5kw panel on that (please check the Voc spec of the panels to be within your CC limit). You can run 380w X4 in 2s2p

2. You can maintain your epsolar cc and Panels to provide some charging current to your battery as well.

Depends on the BMS you are using, you may want to maintain your BMV as well. MPPSolar don't give you accurate info on SOC and Voltage, BMV will be useful for that. However if you are using a BMS like ANT BMS then no need
Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by ebocoms:
Good day everyone. Trust you had a restful weekend.

Please I need input for my New setup. I'm retiring my old  system and migrating to lithium battery.

Present Setup:

- 1.5KVA Luminous  inverter

- 2 x 200ah batteries

- 4 x 300w  Mono Solar panels

- 60a Epsolar iTracer CC

- BMV 702 (Fangpusun )

New System

- 24V 250ah - 5.0KWH Felicity Lifepo4 Lithium Battery

- MPPSolar 3000W inverter (PIP-3024MSE) AC (25a), MPPT (40a), VOC (105)

1. Please what is the capacity of Solar panels that can charge 6.25kwh fully within 5/6 hours daily sunlight (Lagos Mainland). Though I'm not going off grid. PHCN might be used as well. Just trying to save cost not depending on PHCN to charge my battery.

My day load might be around  600W - 700W  (Fans, TV, bulbs , Fridge and Freezer), or priotise it for my LG Inverter washing machine during the day sometimes, while my evening load might not exceed 300W using the inverter. It's just for fans, tv and  bulbs. Not sure if it's okay to use with either Fridge or freezer at night. I'm not planning to use with Airconditioner for now though my equipments are energy friendly.

2. Should I maintain my present Solar setup with my Epsolar charge controller and add new Solar panels 4 x 250W - (Guess the inverter max solar array is 1000w) to my new interver or I should get additional 300W panels and add to the existing Epsolar setup.

Thank you.

Edited: Changed the battery capacity. Felicity overstated the capacity.

Thanks very much for the steps @NiyiOmoIyunade, it worked.

NiyiOmoIyunade:
First you have to 'Unlock' your setup menu.

See this in your Setting # 64. Hold down SETUP until it enters setup. Use the UP Arrow key to navigate quickly to setting number 64. Press SELECT to enter the menu and then set to OFF using the UP or DOWN arrow. Press SELECT to commit your changes.

At this point you can clear out of the menus and then press down SETUP and SELECT till you hear a beep.

If you prefer menus you can use setting number 62 to factory reset.

See excerpt below. You MUST unlock setting number 64 before you are able to FACTORY RESET
Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by ebocoms: 9:38pm On Feb 23, 2020
@Niyiomoiyunade I have tried this several times. It's still clearing the history.

NiyiOmoIyunade:
Clear out of any setup pages.

Hold down the SETUP and SELECT buttons simultaneously till you hear a beep/auditory feedback.

The device should be factory reset after the beep.

Now you owe me two bottles of chilled Heinekein grin

It's an inverter with 32 batteries. I guess their 3 phase inverter starts from 15KVA our own is 32KVA.

Ativ:
Is it a UPS or an inverter?
Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by ebocoms: 9:09pm On May 10, 2019
My office got a 30KVA/384V that is 3 Phase from Simba in Lagos. Though very expensive.

Godliftedme:
House,

Good evening.
I have been thinking over 3-phase solar power system to power a mixed load of 10KW (5.5KW 3phase load and 4.5KW single phase load) between 7:30am - 6:30pm, from my findings most 3-phase setup requires a priming voltage for the unit to work, meaning I need to have another power source to get the 3-phase system working which looks like most 3-phase inverters are designed while considering develop nations with constant power supply.

Also, most solutions requires combining 3 inverter units to achieve the 3-phase power which makes the cost of procurement / installation to be on the high side to achieve. Just wondering if there could be solutions without the need of battery to considerably bring down the cost drastically.

Is there any 3-phase Inverter system solution that does not require 3 individual Inverter units to achieve and does not need another power source to work or without the need for battery since the loading will be basically during the day.

Appreciate knowledge from the experienced elders of the forum with economical solutions that meets this mixed loads and is reliable.

Kindly let me have the email to send the raw visio file to. It can also be downloaded from the dropbox link below
https://www.dropbox.com/s/scchgdg4jjg0msq/SolarConnection-edited.vsd?dl=0

My email is ebocoms (at) yahoo (dot) com. Thank you.

pranil:
If you send the visio native file to me I can redraw but basically - battery -ve from the battery to DC breaker and then toshunt battery side

same with +VE - from Battery +ve to breaker first and then to inverters, CC + VE ETC

Also note DC breakers can have polarity and the side marked with +Ve symbol should be on the battery side ( side with the highest voltage of power flow possible)
Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by ebocoms:
Ok thanks @pranil. Is it the -Ve from the inverter that would pass through the breaker or the the -Ve (jumper cable) that would pass through the breaker B?

pranil:
If you have 2P DC breaker why not disconnect both + ve and -Ve- The way I normally do it is to use DC breaker immediately after the battery so it can safely switch off all inverter, charge controller and the shunt
Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by ebocoms: 3:52pm On Jun 11, 2018
Thanks @NiyiOmoIyunade for the great help. I used Microsoft Visio 2010 for the design. The meter came with attached cable in the picture below. Guess is the one you are talking about.

[img][/img]
NiyiOmoIyunade:
Yes you are on point.

This illustration is beautifully done - far better than my scatter diagram - please what software/tool are you using to make the diagrams?

Two things I would add;

1) Keep the jumper cable between battery negative and battery side of the shunt as SHORT and THICK as possible. When I used a meter such as this I paralleled two short lengths of 16MM to make my jumper cable.

2) Don't forget the 2W/3W jumper pins that Oga Pranil mentioned in case the meter does not come on at first try. The jumper pins are pretty close to the +Vn switch where you attach the red wire coming from battery positive to the shunt near the battery side.

The applicable scenario is the first one on the manual I believe - the option with no external separate power supply.

@NiyiOmoIyunade
cc @dapsyra

Kindly help check if the attached drawing is OK as described by your steps stated below for the installation of the meter. Also the position of Breaker B.
Thank you.

NiyiOmoIyunade:
I guess the second picture with inverter and batteries in it is your current setup.

Two challenges I see - your current RC 150 meter has an internal shunt (by design this will probably carry no more than 20amps of current safely - at a stretch perhaps 50amps) - you dedicated this RC meter to measuring just your solar power generation but not battery consumption per the diagram.

The new meter has an external shunt hopefully rated for higher amps and hopefully capable of bidirectional readings if you want to measure both amps into the battery and amps out of the battery - I have learnt from hard experience that a meter such as this new one you have rated for 100A should be derated to 50A max when placed in service.

How To Proceed in General... .

Switch off PV input breakers then inverter input breaker

1) Identify the battery and load side of the shunt - in your picture the battery side is the leftmost side with the small black wire connected to the large terminal that has a bolt and nut on it - the load side is the one with the small red wire attached.

2) The way the meter works is to measure the voltage drop across the battery and the load side of the shunt - there is a calibrated piece of metal with known resistance between the two big nuts/screws that have a tiny black and red wire attached to their bases. Those tiny black and red wires are measuring voltage drop between battery and load and given a known resistance (in the shunt) you can calculate the AMPs and or watts flowing from battery to load or from power source (load) into battery.

3) You will need to make a small jumper cable to connect from battery negative terminal to the battery side of the shunt else you bolt the battery side of the shunt directly to the battery negative terminal post if you can. This jumper cable should be as thick as possible and properly crimped

Key to note, the shunt is always connected to the negative cable/side of CC, batteries, inverter

4) Any thing you want to measure through the meter e.g CC amps into battery or inverter amps into battery you place of the load side of the shunt (right side of shunt with small red wire in your picture) - you first switch off the PV and inverter and then trip of DC breakers - disconnect negative terminal of inverter and CC from the battery and attach it to the load side of the shunt (side with small red wire) simply unscrew the nut from the shunt (load side) , connect the lug side of your inverter and CC negative cable through the bolt on the shunt (load side) and replace the nut and tighten.

It will be really long to type all the steps so if you can excuse my abysmal writing and drawing skills, I have attached a diagram that may help you - follow the big red +s for positive cable connections and the big black --s for negative cable connections. Please reach out freely in case of any questions

Thanks @NoMoreTrolling. I called another installer over the weekend to double check my installation; he discovered 2 of the panels has not been working and fixed it. I guess it was bridged during initial installation. My output is now doubled after fixing the panels. My configuration was also changed to 2 x 2. Saturday peak output was 772.5W and 30A.

NoMoreTrolling:
Nice setup! What are you complaining about though, if your batteries are always full by the time you get homehuh

Since you aren't really tasking the setup during the day time, I won't expect you to see much juice unless your batteries are almost dead.

Try to run some load on it while you're home on a weekend, in full sun, like around 11-1pm. See what you get. Maybe through a microwave on or something and see.

Good day All,

I have been a silent follower of this great forum for some years now. Please, I need your help in evaluating my installation below before upgrading.
Since about 10 months of adding solar to already installed inverter the highest watts i have seen is 402W; while the highest Amp. is 16A. Though, my batteries are fully charged before getting home daily. I'm not not offgrid. Just being curious why 1,200W panel is not generating upto 50% the of the rated capacity.

- 1.5KVA/24V Luminous Inverter
- 2 x 200AH Luminous Batteries
- 4 x 300w Mono Solar Panels - Parallel - (2 x Sunshine Panels + 2 x Joy Panels) - Installed on the roof South side (no sign of shading or interference because my building is a bit higher than others closeby)
- 40a MPPT CC (Chinco)
- 16mm cable

Attached are the pictures of my panels, CC and output.

Thank you.

Yes, it can. Infact, I have thread where I construct two of this duplex on a 640 square metres plot of land.

Though, this client rejected the concrete facia design, so I changed it and he refused making provision for glass block.
The ground floor is 10m x 12m ie 120 square meters.

The remaining 105 meters would go for parking space(atleast 4 cars), generator base and security house.
