LagosismyHome:Yeah, correct. It was required of me when I visited an African country. |
Hampson212:usnews.com, mba.com and the likes should be very handy for you at the moment. As you might have read on this thread series, pick some high ranking schools (use usnews.com to check ranks), some schools that match your profile (CGPA and test scores) and some safety (at all at all) schools. Visit each school website to learn more. All the best! |
BenNash:I am of the opinion that you should explain this to the school as you did here. The gurus can respond as well. |
Chapecoense:They usually require this at the airport. You could pick it up for 2k or less at the Ministry of Health and the staff there will also administer some immunizations to you. best, |
joeluv:Joeluv, men I was shocked at the rate of increase of these flight fares! Just last week, I had a 279k fare to JFK. The best I saw for Washington Dulles on 10th August was 400k with Wakanow on Royal Air Maroc. You might also want to consider flying to JFK New York (which is usually cheaper than washington) and then a Bus trip to Washington if that's your final destination. Just a thought you might want to check out. All the best! |
Labhii:That's not fair. After joking with Grand Theft Auto, you should have given the correct explanation . Anyways, LagosismyHome has done that. |
Olaide999:Your school should give the best answer. Duke deferred my admission from Fall 2017 till Fall 2019 and asked me to use the two years to find funding. |
joeluv:Which date in august? I could help you. Also try wakanow.com |
anodebeanthony:On submission, you will get a message that the information submitted cannot be changed anymore. I suggest you go through with this visa appointment, you never know, the Vo may not even ask you anything in the area where the mistake was made. I didn't have experience amending or canceling anything so anybody that did might add to what has been said so far. |
Victorjoel:You should book one way flight. Do you know precisely when your program would finish as to book a return? Even at that, I don't know that airlines can have flight schedules years ahead of time. |
LagosismyHome:All is well that ends well. You're welcome. |
LagosismyHome:Nope not J1 anymore. Thanks for all your great contributions despite your busy schedule and family....though you didn't reply my PM Anyways I totally understand ![]() |
VISA approved this morning at Abuja Embassy of the US. I was slated for 9:00 am. Got there around 8:20am. You will have to stay at the private car parking area about 60 meters from the embassy entrance. 25 Mins later, 9:00 am appointees were called in. Windows 6,7 and 8 were at work. The moment I joined the final queue, there were about 15 people ahead of me and mehn, blue papers were all over the place! Of these people ahead of me, I saw only 2 white papers; a black man with wife and two kids and a white man who was alone. I was like God what exactly are these people looking for? One guy going to Washington DC for studies did all his questions right yet was denied by the black lady on window 7. Fast forward to my turn on windows 6 (White man, reddish eyes, late thirties, early forties): Vo Good morning and how are you Bros Good morning I’m fine (while slotting in my Passport and I20) Vo okay , took 20 secs to read the I20 and asked Why VCU? Bros VCU (in full) has a good business school and I interviewed with two doctoral faculty members who encouraged me to apply Vo Still reading I20… How did you get the assistantship? Bros My 1st degree GPA and My 2nd degree GPA were very good and my Statement of Purpose as well. Vo Typing on his system…Are you married Bros Yes Vo Kids? Bros Yes, one Vo Typed for about 20 seconds and slotted out the white papers to me and said, “this paper will show you how to pick up your visa.” Have a good day. That was it! Just about 4 questions! And people I prayed to God and said I don’t want a lengthy interview. I specifically told Him I don’t want it to last more than 1 minute and He answered! Pray very well, fast if you can (I did) and prepare using the transcripts here to develop your own answers. I compiled some Fall 2017 transcripts (up to page 331) some weeks ago. It’s down below: https://www.dropbox.com/s/dawoicv7y9cofif/COMPILED%20VISA%20TRANSCRIPT%20Part%2011%20-%20Up%20to%20Pg%20331.docx?dl=0 Thanks to Texrem and Oludare01 who reviewed my responses to the common questions! All the best to everyone! |
Folsy:There are buses from New York to Tennessee, Greyhound being the most dominant. Use greyhound.com, wanderu.com or us.megabus.com |
OluDare01:Thank you. I will be expecting... |
biikeys:Incredible website. Thanks Biikeys for sharing! |
freslinkz:Search Nairaland for TOSJAMES or OLUDARE01. They both help with that. I was helped by TOSJAMES. I also saw WALSPRING saying he can help too. |
Johnolukolade:No you don't. But SEVIS fee will be made before you go for visa interview. At least two business days before your visa appointment so that your payment can reflect on their system. For your I-20, keep talking to your university to know what is delaying it and what you should do. |
Hello All, I compiled all the Visa Transcript on this Part 11 up to this point (pages 0 - 331) to help me prepare for visa appointment. Thought I should share with anybody that cares. It's down below: https://www.dropbox.com/s/dawoicv7y9cofif/COMPILED%20VISA%20TRANSCRIPT%20Part%2011%20-%20Up%20to%20Pg%20331.docx?dl=0 Cheers. |
Thanks to TOSJAME! He helped me pay the SEVIS fee at a very good rate, without extra charges and without hassles. |
dcutey:Thank you Dcutey. Almost all of the people that have spoken are leaning toward Duke. I am soaking it all in.Thank you. |
OGreene:Thanks OGreene and congrats on your Uni. of California, Berkeley offer! That's a big one! Wishing you all the best. |
LagosismyHome:I will look into the waiver, honestly. Thank you very much! |
LagosismyHome:Thank you LagosismyHome. Your input is much appreciated. The J-1 requires the 2 years go-home requirement. Yes one can't switch to H or L visa but can one switch to F-1 at the time of expiry of the 2-year J-1? |
Chidinho10:Thanks for your input Chidinho10. The school is neither UT Austin nor TAMU, otherwise it would be an easy decision. It's UTRGV. The Duke program is Masters in International Development Policy (MIDP). I have replied your PM. All the best in your 2018 application! |
I have a decision to make and I will appreciate your input: I got a PhD offer from one of the 'University of Texas' schools and I put this school under my SAFE SCHOOL category during my application. I also got an MSc offer from Duke University but the funding will come from an external organization. Because of the reputation behind Duke University, and the not-so-good reputation from where I got the PhD offer, I couldn't dismiss the Duke offer easily. I am willing to do the Msc with Duke and then move on to Phd in Duke or another similarly placed university, however the external organization funding the Msc constrains the recipients to J-1 Visa, meaning you return home for at least 2 years after your schooling. Without this constraint, I will choose the MSc offer from Duke university and sacrifice the two years for another Masters degree. Please does anybody in the house have any experience with J-1 visa or know someone who is currently on J-1? My little beef with the PhD offer is the kind of of school where I will get placement after my studies. It seems that where you obtained your PhD matters with respect to the kind of schools that give you an offer after your studies. Meaning that only schools in the same league and category as your school will give you tenure offers and not schools in a higher league. Or doesn't it matter? cc: LagosismyHome, imperiouxx, Oludare01, texrem, slimmy2005, Twoods etc. |
slimmy2005:Thanks Slimmy2005, I have been thinking about your comments and it is a wise thing to do. W.r.t changing of status from B-2 to F-2, do you know if she would need to return to Nigeria to change it or if the change can be effected in the US without any need to return? Thank you. |
