I keep saying this: You don't have to know anybody before getting a good job in Nigeria. Remove that thought from your mind, because such mindset can affect your disposition towards the labour market.
I am a witness. I have worked with a few major organizations in Nigeria. I didn't know anybody. No responsible organization will recruit solely based on "man-know-man". Just believe in yourself and don't be intimidated by the large crowd of applicants during the recruitment processes. I'm not saying you can't network anyway.
I've learnt so much from you guys. I'm keeping my mind clean and open. There's nothing to loose but there is so much to gain in having a positive view about things. Thanks a lot for these piece.

@Sixteen08: I am well grounded in my discipline and I read a lot to stay abreast of happenings in the industry. It's just that I feel daunted at times due to the much talked about Nigerian factor "godfatherism" because I don't know any highly placed person apart from God. I will continue to keep my hope alive, prepare myself ahead intellectually and trust in Gods grace and favour. Thanks so much.
Health › Re: My Weight Loss Story-from 75kg To 58.5kg,still Counting by ecolime(m): 4:04pm On Feb 03, 2013
Waohhh.. I don't eat dinner beyond 7pm and I work late into the night. I think my undoing is eating starchy foods. The problem however is that foods like rice, yam, bread, cassava and yam flour are the main Nigerian staple foods. I eat them a lot due to Nigerian factors (cost, accessibility and availability)
I'm more than ready to leave them all but it seems there are no alternatives to them apart from beans. I will also start taking lots of fruits just as you've adviced. Is it possible for me to live entirely on just beans and fruits? This is really scary oo. What do you also think about taking light foods such as pap and oats?
Jobs/Vacancies › Re: Still A Jobseeker? How Have You Been Coping? by ecolime(m):
@Bolt2011: My number one priority and heart desire is getting a good job immediately after service and am working and praying towards it. I prefer a pay-free internship programme to gather experience in the absence of a job to a masters degree. I will surely do my masters but that will be much later in my career life. I'm really grateful for your inspiring response. God bless you so much.
Health › Re: My Weight Loss Story-from 75kg To 58.5kg,still Counting by ecolime(m): 8:47am On Feb 03, 2013
I've started developing big tummy since I started serving. I used to be 70kg back in school but am almost 82kg now. I don't eat much and I neither drink nor smoke. I tried sit-ups and skipping of dinner but none of them worked for me. I'm so confused. I'm 5.7" tall and still look healthy but I don't wanna be out of shape in the nearest future. Please help me out because my growing belly and increasing weight is giving me cause for worries.

Career › Re: Life As An Engineer by ecolime(m):
I studied Chemical engineering. I'm currently serving and will be passing out of service by June. I'm in a fix as to what to do incase a good job doesn't come up immediately after NYSC. Thinking of either going for a masters degree or securing a pay-free position an as intern in a good engineering/production related company so as to gather experience pending the time a good job comes my way. Guys, what do you think? I need your suggestions.

lola009: Thanks. Of course I know that's not a guarantee. Even people who graduate with a distinction in first class are still on the line. I guess it just gives one an edge over the others. Thanks for the info again. smiley
It's a pleasure.

lola009: Oh okay ecolime. How good is that for the labour market?
That's a very good result and it's the minimum requirement for most companies here. Several opportunities are open to peeps with such a grade, however that doesn't mean it's a guaranteed meal ticket.

Career › Re: Do You Think Nairaland Is Taking Much Of Your Time. by ecolime(m): 10:19pm On Jan 26, 2013
Nairaland has really been more of a plus to me. I get about 60% of all the information I need for my day to day activities here and that has really increased my knowledge base and also, reasonable comments from some members has really helped me a lot in taking informed decisions after cogitating on them.
I used to be so addicted to this forum until I made a conscious effort to get the addiction off my blood. All you have to do is to keep yourself busy with your real life activities during the day and go online "only" at night just before you sleep so as to catch up with the latest gist.

striktlymi: Good morning,

I wonder why he made this very controversial comment. In essence, is he also saying that Jesus was wrong to have been baptized by John? Or does he question the "divine calling" of Adeboye?

Anyways, I didn't expect such from him.

Thank you!
My thoughts exactly.
