With the kind of criticism Buhari is getting here for what I know is a very correct analysis of the Nigerian situation, there is little wonder why we are where we are today. To all those saying he went "outside" and betrayed his country, I wonder what you guys mean by "outside" when almost all of of you come here and post more disparaging and scathing remarks about the state of the nation, and forget that in the present age, every single line on this forum is an "outside" statement when you consider how many foreign nationals (including their government agencies) visit Nairaland. In manipulating the 2007 election results to favour a man who was then held in jail for corruption charges, and successfully installing him as governor later, the former governor of Abia State, Dr.(?) Orji Kalu, elevated the acclaimed huuuuuuge powers of Nigerian political incumbents to mythical proportions, and rewrote the books on the Stupefying levels of Election rigging (forget the "irregularities" nonsense) in "Africa's largest democracy"- whatever that phrase means to CNN and the western media.

But before I go on, permit me to share a personal experience.

I have been in a position where a benefactor wanted to turn me into a slave - drove me to the max, made sure I (over)worked maximum for every cent she paid, provoked me almost beyond what any human could reasonably bear, among so many other things she did.

People got to know, asked me to leave, goaded me to protest, showed me a thousand and one justifications I rightly have to revolt ... but through it all, I remained loyal, steadfast in discharging my responsibilities, and minus a few occasions where I had to share my ordeal to senior friends and relatives for advice, I never for one day disrespected her or publicly spoke out against her.

Why?

Because, for all she later turned out to be and do, I never ever forget, not for once, that she took me in when everyone else I looked up to turned their back on me. And without that first push she gave me up the ladder, I may not have gotten to the point of seeing, let alone comparing what I am missing because of her about-turn attitude to me. It also helped that as a "bible reader" I remembered the biblical story of David and Saul, and how even at the peak of Saul's hatred against him, David will still not let the ills he had suffered in Saul's hands becloud his reasoning to the point of retaliating against his benefactor.

By the way, Just before I left amicably to take a much bigger responsibility in a bigger project- which my benefactor (she will always remain so) glowingly recommended me for, she admitted that she found my stoic loyalty scary at some point, and that recommending me to for the bigger project was her way of apologizing for all I endured.

Bringing this home, I don't care what the cause of the conflict between the 2 Orjis in Abia state is, but I think that there are better ways to PUBLICLY treat the conflict between a man who literally stole the governorship for you while you are in Jail, than the way the incumbent governor of Abia state is doing to his benefactor now!

The old saying, "Better late than never," rang particularly true for the Riphagen family of suburban Chicago.
The Riphagens had four gold rings returned to them, along with an anonymous letter of apology, 15 years after they had been stolen.
Margot Riphagen, 31, who now lives in Portland, Ore., recalls exactly when the rings were stolen. She was only 16 years old when she had a party that got a bit out of hand. A few items were stolen, most notably those four rings.

"It was a long time ago and it was a pretty bad situation," Riphagen told ABCNews.com. "I invited a few friends over and then all of a sudden there were all these people there I didn't know. We immediately noticed stuff was missing. My parents actually turned me in to the police. They always understood this wasn't my fault, but we had never recovered those rings and I still have no idea who it was."

The anonymous note, signed by a sincerely regretful "dumb kid who wants to right a wrong," was sent to Riphagen's mother at her place of work. The family was astonished to have the rings returned, and Margot said she doesn't even care who stole them. The only thing that matters now is that they're back.

"We don't care who it was. I was stupid when I was 16 and I'm sure they were too. Somebody did it for the thrill of it, not for money," Ripenhagen said.

For this surprised family, the four rings had more sentimental value than anything else.
"The first ring is my mother's actual wedding band, that she was not wearing because she was going to get it re-sized. The second is a ring with a small diamond that my father gave my mother when my sister was born, who is a year older than I am," said Riphagen.

"And then the other two, I actually didn't know existed until we got them back, but they are my grandparents' wedding bands. They had small diamond chips put into them for me and my sister when we got older. So it was a pretty big deal. I'm now actually wearing my grandfather's wedding band."
Riphagen said she's felt badly about the missing rings for 15 years now, and finally with the help of this letter, has some closure.
"We never thought we would get any of the stuff back. It's completely amazing and wonderful and we're all thrilled about it. It's a super-positive thing and a great way to start the New Year," she said.
