TheGoodJoe: Did you see his move yesterday? If that was not brilliant, what is. Have you watched any of Iheanacho's games earlier this season? If you did, I doubt you will criticise his build-up plays.
Players have different styles and Nacho does not hold the ball for long. However, playing midfield is far different from attacking. There is little time to hold on to the ball due to pressure of defenders that are close. He's improved in that aspect, but it's still not that great. He is young and can get better sha. |

Nacho's build play gets overrated sometimes on here. Let's be honest; if it was as great as people say, there's no way he wouldn't be a starter. Nacho IS the best finisher in city. But he's not that mobile (improved in that aspect) and oddly enough, not that much of a great dribbler. The more I watch him, the more I'm convinced it was the right move to convert him to a 9. I just can't see him doing what De Bruyne or Silva does as the creative hub. He's a great finisher and has a good final pass. Everything else is just there. |

We need Enyeama now especially with Carl's iffy fitness. World cup is next year and our options after Ikeme aren't really that great. If we qualify for the WC, Enyeama should be convinced to come back. Carl Ikeme's injury worries have been very suprising and worrying to me. |

Icon79: Take it from someone who knows. Raheem Sterling would always flatter to deceive, you need to look beyond the flatter to find out that there's nothing more in there. I cried blue murder when ManCity splashed $60m on his transfer fee, but it took Manuel Pellegrini more than half of the EPL season to realized what I had already known about Sterling. And I was shocked to see Pep making the same mistake by trying to build his team around Sterling, while neglecting potential stars like Nolito and Kelechi.
In fact, that's when I concluded that Pep is grossly overrated as a coach. I mean, to be fair, I have never rated him that highly even when he was at Barca. I felt that the Barca system along with Messi, Iniesta, and Xavi can make an average coach seem like a world beater!
O pari Don't know which player you've been watching, but Sterling has been superb this season. He has improved massively from last season. |

I Made it simple my man. Not complex. Mikel = Sleek player.
Another way to look at it is smooth. If you look at Maradona and Messi play, you can not call their play smooth. Definitely, you can tag that to Mikel and Busquets. I don't get this argument...is sleek the same thing as elegance? Oh and Messi is smooth on the ball. The way he controls the ball at speed is smooth. |

BascoVanVeli: Naive can never be the word. Even the people sweeping the glass house know there is a chance they won't get paid talkless of a former captain. He knew he had already worked for fifa and all he needed was a job with Super Eagles on his CV. Egypt would have dropped him to a losing record, he could not take that chance. I wish him luck but i can't just sit back and play a fool. How do we know what Pinnick promised him?? Remember he had already rejected the job twice. Maybe he felt things would be different. |

BascoVanVeli: Incredible u call Sunday Oliseh naive. I am sure he also knew that Keshi had to go through the same mess and so did Siasia but they never left their own country high and dry. European coaches do it all the time so I don't think i have made an earth shattering comment. That's why I called him "naive". He should've expected not getting paid for months and the lack of funds. Don't think it's right to say he didn't want to improve our football |

BascoVanVeli: Those people were victims of a crime. Oliseh used Nigeria as a stepping stone, he never had plans of improving our football. Nonsense, he left because he couldn't deal with NFF incompetence. Now you can blame him for being naive to think the "Nigerian factor" he faced as a player would automatically vanish because Pinnick was at helm; to say he merely used naija as a stepping stone is wrong. |

As soon as Pep signed Gabriel Jesus, I knew Nacho would have serious problems. I kept on telling people all this talk of Gabriel Jesus playing on the wing was a lie. He was bought to play as a 9 from the start. Nacho should've asked for a loan in January...he probably didn't want to piss Pep up so he kept quiet and played "humble team player". Imagine using Sterling as a false 9 when Nacho is fit and yet people feel Pep values Nacho...SMH. |

goldfish80: Am not sure Celestine Babayaro, Olishe,Afolabi, Keshi and Amokachi played in Belgium within the last 15yrs. I specifically gave a time frame. You were too quick to read.
Just like I pointed out earlier, Nigerians who took Belgium by storm over the past 15 yrs really didn't leave up to the promise. That is a fact weather you like it or not.
Joseph Akpala for all his endeavour didn't have a solid international career. He didn't find any bearing whatsoever in the national team. A few caps and cameos here and there. He didn't really cut it if you ask me.
Tosin Dosunmu at a time was rated the better talent than Obafemi Martins by Kashmao Laloko who coached them both in Nigeria. Tosin in his debut game for the super eagles couldn't even trap a bag of cement. The lack of confidence in the game discouraged coaches from giving him a look in. I couldn't believe this was the same guy who scored goals for fun with Westerlo.
Peter Utaka is a baller any day. I personally rate him very high. A guy who have won top scorer in virtually every league he has played. He was not favoured by national team selectors for some odd reasons. However, I think he should have played in a better league when he moved. He is that talented.
Manashe Isiaku?
Patrick Ogunshoto?
I mentioned Marvin Ogunjimi because he was touted for the super eagles at point. If this thread was in existence back then, you would have made a song and dance with his name.
N/B: These guys I mentioned were the hottest players in Belgium in their days. Neither Kalu, Moses Simon, Etisi and Onyekuru have had half the impact this guys had in Belgium. I stand to be corrected. Ahh I remember Ogunsoto and Ogunjimi back in high school. Ogunsoto was also banging in goals in the Greek league (think he was the all time leading goal scorer for his club). Don't know what made him leave Westerlo. I remember the fans of one of the clubs he played for turned on him and claimed he was an age cheat. Ogunjimi did everything to play for eagles. He eventually got called up to Belgium and scored a brace on his debut. Don't think both were better than what we had at that period. |

TheGoodJoe: Please, Jeffers to Ibrahimovic was a joke. Arsenal could afford CR7 if he put into context the massive gain Arsenal would make for such a young forward. That is my criticism. Wenger walked away repeatedly from Gold mines because of some of his voodoo financial plans.
This in question were two of the future best players in the World. As for Sahin, I am talking of sealing him before he went to Dortmund. Wenger made lots of mistakes and no defence for that. Arsenal at that moment did not need Ibra. Ibra wasn't a great goal scorer then, he just scored great goals. Ibra won his first golden boot at 28. Kanu, Henry, Bergkamp were still around. What was needed was someone like Van Nistelrooy not Ibra. |

TheGoodJoe: Cole was on his way out. I do not understand why he is in the discussion. As for Gibbs, pure Arsenal hype. Time told who was the better player. Even as a left back, Bale made some extraordinary performances. Typical Wenger. Gibbs better than Bale. Not gibbs, Clichy. Fact was as at 2006, Clichy was a FAR better left back than bale. No one would even argue that. So missing out on bale was understandable. He wasn't extraordinary at left back. He had a few good performances when Redknapp came in and eventually got pushed upfront. He was going to get sold. I remember there was this stat about Tottenham not winning 20 games or so Bale played in. |

TheGoodJoe: Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger concedes he made a "huge mistake" in failing to sign Gareth Bale.
Wenger was tracking the Tottenham winger back when he was a young left-back at Southampton, alongside future Arsenal star Theo Walcott.
But while Walcott made the move Arsenal, Bale, now 23, headed to north-London rivals Tottenham, where he is now proving to be one of the best players in the country.
"We didn't take him as we had Ashley Cole and Gael Clichy and didn't want another left-back," Wenger told Al Jazeera Sport.
"I must confess it was a huge mistake as he can play in midfield. He struggled at the start at Tottenham, then they moved him to midfield and he has done exceptionally well.
Typical Wenger. Sign Walcott and leave Gareth Bale. I don't get the point you're trying to make. Bale was a full back at that time and let's be honest, Cole and Gibbs were much better. Bale as a full back almost got sold when he was at Tottenham till Redknapp moved him to the wing. Nuri Sahin was approached twice but he rejected arsenal the first time and Madrid and Mou screwed Wenger up the second time. Hindsight is a very beautiful thing. As for Ibra, we already had technical forwards and what arsenal fans were crying out for was a penalty box poacher, that's why they got Jeffers. If anything, I was pissed he didn't get Van Nistelrooy when he had the chance to. As for cr7, arsenal simply couldn't afford him at that time. |

TheGoodJoe: At the end, Wenger ruled against Signing Modric and also Mandzukic. Whether he thought the young man was lightweight does not change the fact that he refused to sign Modric. It was a valid reason as at that time. |
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by edi287: 12:37am On Apr 02, 2017 |
TheGoodJoe: Please, it was not hidden that Modric was made for greatness. The reality is that, a lightweight Fabregas took the EPL by storm. What of Eriksen? Mata, Silva. Weight was not an issue. Many knew Modric was brilliant. There was an outcry for him. Just as the cry for Mandzukic after Eduardo's injury. Wenger is naturally slow in the market. That is not a debatable point. It is natural. Wenger actually wanted to sign him with Eduardo back in 2007. He rejected it because he wanted to wait. He rejected both Arsenal and Barcelona. Harry Redknapp also said Wenger didn't go for him because he felt he was light weight. Let's be honest, it was a period when we had Cesc, Rosicky, Hleb, Diaby and they were on form then. He was meant to replace Rosicky who ended up staying. |

Musa has been a loyal servant to the team, but he needs to stop being ridiculous. Rohr as a coach has the right to pick whomever he wants as his Captain. Don't understand this petulant attitude of his. Besides, let's be honest - he was never captain's material to begin with. If a man is putting food on his families table by lying about his age that ishh is not my business. When they start trying to play for golden eaglets is when i go vex. You might have a point, but that type of thinking will not erase this issue of age cheating. Some of these guys have gone through our youth teams. It's a shame they take up positions that we can easily fill up with proper scouting and no mago mago. They are damaging the chances of genuine young players of moving to Europe too.
