cromz: onyekuru or ihenancho. If Kalu, chukuwueze and 1 or 2 other wingers can be clinical enough, we can play like Liverpool. However we will need a ball playing defender like van Dijk and our midfield must be solid. I agree but Nacho's link up play isn't that great. I'd like to see Musa - Nacho/Onyekuru - Samu tried out. In other for a false 9 to work, we need a wide forward like Musa. It'd mean one of Samu/Kalu drops to the bench. I wish Leon was 5 years younger. Still our best ball playing CB in my opinion. |

cromz: Who else thinks we can play a 4-3-3 false 9 effectively. Furthermore I must commend the Ukrainians for their passes. A more clinical team would have converted those chances. We need to work on our defence and communication Who would be your 9? Onyekuru? |

tbaba1234: Nah, Iwobi was imperious in that AM role. It is a waste, sticking him on the left. Kalu was very good on the left while he was on.
I think Etebo holds on to the ball more than Aribo. Who will play AM in your midfield 3? I think Ndidi is critical to protect the defense. It'll be a typical 4-3-3 with 2 CMs and no 10s. Aribo and Etebo can take turns on who attacks. Both have crazy stamina. It's something we should try out especially in tough away games at AfCON/WC qualifiers. |

Kog45: Tbaba pls tell me what we have.
Zuby is better than Esiti as you said and Esiti got invited then let give Zuby a chance. Rohr didn't invite Zuby because of the U23s qualifiers. I think we will be seeing him with SE sooner than later. |

tbaba1234: I think Ndidi will do a better job than Etebo in protecting the defense. Maybe Azubuike might be a good call as others have suggested. Etebo is similar to Aribo in a sense. Rohr needs to stop playing him as the deepest midfielder. Rohr should try out Azubuike - Etebo - Aribo one of these days. I don't mind seeing Iwobi out wide for this to happen. |

tbaba1234: Etebo sat deeper but when Iwobi was removed, Etebo went to AM.
Esiti went to DM
Aribo CM I'd like to see Rohr try this out with Ndidi replacing Esiti. Would be interesting to see how it turns out... |

tbaba1234: We were the better team.. It should have been 4:0 before they scored.
Iwobi was pulled off for Esiti. It appeared to change the dynamics. Simon for Kalu was another sub that killed the game.
Our transition play today was beautiful. Who played further upfront - Aribo or Etebo? |

BascoVanVeli: Yes that is simply because the best are with the super eagles. Once we go away from that the rest is subject to how the coach feels. Those players are not poor and saying so shows bias and lack of football knowledge. A 1-0 loss is not as bad as this thread is making it out to be. He left out better players than he fielded... Simple as that. He played an rb in midfield - can you please explain that? Where was the creativity going to come from from that list? Was Okereke, Bonaventure, Ejuke, etc with SE? Did we have a creative midfielder better than Ejuke? |

BascoVanVeli: Nigeria has a large pool of players then accept that the coach selected who he selected. Did you know that we had a CB as good as the dada boy that played in the first leg? You are being biased if all u can muster is to say that Imama was lazy. He didn't select our best legs. Simple as that. With all the options he had - that was the best team he could put together? Abeg stop defending that guy. He freaking played a rb in midfield. He is lazy. Someone like Tbaba1234 probably knows more about our U23 players than him. |

charlesemeka85: It is disgraceful and dishearting to see few elements in this thread working so hard to bring division to current super eagles set up by labeling kids who has fundamental human rights as foreign born just because they were born and groomed abroad.
This nonsense should stop! This kids re equally Nigerians and I will even boast more Nigerian that so many of us here. This is the same nonsense that have been perceived in the nff technical committee which have slowed down the approach to get some of this kids who re good enough for our various teams.
I got an information yesterday why ebere eze's invitation to the national team have been delayed. I learnt the nff technical committee were agitating that Rohr is hell bent on infusing so many European born players to the super eagles at the expense of home grown talents and secondly that Eze is still unproven in the championship and for these reasons do not deserve a chance in the super eagles yet.
Rohr took notice of eze's qualities as a natural play maker when he trained with the team in UK few years ago and penciled him down as a possible replacement for aging John obi mikel but because of the fear of an outburst from the nff and football fans back home who will tag his team a team of 2nd Division players he had to delay the lads invite hoping he makes the leap to the epl or any top division in Europe.
Alot are happening behind the scene but Rohr have been very calm and as well handling issues professionally not to letting things out to the media.
It's high time we change this mentality of ours and accept this kids as our own notwithstanding where they were given birth in or groomed. Selection of players to our various national teams should be on an open ground where only the best will be picked to build a formidable team.
And to those with this mindset your hate is worst than racism! If this is true then NFF must be out of their damn minds. You want more home-based players in SE? Fix the damn league. What the Bleep is shit? Affirmative action or what? If all our best legs are foreign born - invite them. Nigeria can be such a useless country at times. I tire for these guys... |

BascoVanVeli: How many foreign based players play for the French youth teams? Maybe we should play only home-based players so we can be exactly like them?
If I say France used home players to win the world cup and so Nigeria should follow suit u would say I was insane for comparing Nigeria to a country like France but here u people shamelessly bring up what is going on over there like it is a map of what we should be doing.
If we are running a no excuse policy then the coach should be equipped with the best possible options if not we should all hush up and judge the man for what his players do on the pitch and nothing else. Even messi has bad matches so it is very childish to cry about the players the coach selected simply because his team lost 1 nut. We have a large pool of players for U23. Imama is simply being lazy. Instead of the French U21 asking for Mbappe and Demobouz, what do they do? Invite Moussa Dembele, Jeff Adelaide, etc. That is what Imama should be doing. Instead of waiting for Rohr to bail his ass out everytime, he should scout and find players. This isn't rocket science. How can you be making excuses for this guy? This qualifier is taking place in a Fifa calendar FFS!! Ejuke, Okereke, Kingsley Michael, Dele Bashiru, Zubariu, etc could've easily been invited for the first leg. But no... We want Osimhen and Samu to be flying up and down... Seriously? This is how players get burned out.. Imama should quit if he's not up for the task. Any coach worth their onions would be salivating at the prospect of coaching this U23 team. |

BascoVanVeli: Samuel Chukwueze and victor Osimhen belong to the system what are you talking about? After you people will cry that we are hyping players when you don't want them to go through a growth process. They are in the age bracket and they should be with that team slugging it out with their mates. No they are officially SE players. Mbappe, Pavard, Dembouz, etc qualify for France U21 team but how many times do you see them playing for them? Samu and Osimhen aren't facing world class competition and are very close to breaking into the starting 11 so why should they go back to the U23? We have a large U23 players pool... Imama is just being lazy. |

BascoVanVeli: Then why isn't he allowed to call Osimhen and Samu? That would have made things easier don't you think? Obviously he is working according to the nff and Rohr. Osimhen and Samu are confirmed SE players. Are they the only U23 players around? Would Rohr have called up Bonaventure if Imama invited him to the U23? What stopped him from inviting Okereke, Nwakali, Ejuke and many other talented U23 players we have? Is it Rohr's job to unearth talented U23 players or the other way around? |

Hanibal: I'm not saying anybody is mistreating him, all I'm saying is that Iheanacho's talent couldn't just have disappeared like that. He needs the national team's support at least. Bro the competition for places upfront is tight! We have so many up and coming strikers so we can't afford to give Nacho the time you're talking about. I know you'll point to Musa but his competition was mainly an inexperienced Onyekuru and Iwobi when he played on the left. Musa went on loan and regained confidence then took his chance at the WC. Nacho is young but he needs to sit up. The likes of Osimhen, Okereke, Awoniyi, etc won't wait for him to regain form because he was a golden boot winner at U17 level. |
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by edi287: 10:49pm On Sep 06, 2019 |
Hanibal: Off topic. Michy Batshuayi hasn't kicked a ball for Chelsea this season, infact he has managed to make the bench just once in 4 games this season, yet he played 90mins for Belgium today, Belgium o, world number 1 fa !Dries mertens and Romelu lukaku were on the bench, he scored 2goals. If Batshuayi was Nigerian with his travails at Chelsea, some people would have tagged him "wasteman" "unproven", 2goals in three seasons striker etc etc. They will tag the National team coach that invited him the most corrupt in the world. My point is... Sometimes, a lot of things can contribute to a player not making match day squads in a foreign country, it's not always down to quality or lack of it. It might be as simple as the manager just not liking the way the club's jersey looks on you! (Guardiola comes to mind) The support of the national team can go a long way in giving some confidence, especially for players who had once been main stays in the team. Cc :Iheanacho I watched him in his u17 days, his man city days under pellegrini even under Guardiola, his Leicester days under Ranieri.... His early days in the GWG, all that talent cannot just "vamooze" like that, No! I really pity the young man and other brilliant guys like him: Isaac success, Nwakali Junior... I hope Rohr starts him against Ukraine. Please I'm not looking for a debate, I must warn that I'm really lazy at typing. Michy has mostly performed whenever he's been out on loan. He scored 5 goals in 11 matches at Palace last season. The only loan spell he didn't do well at was Valencia. Nacho has been getting chances and he has yet to take it. You guys honestly think Leicester bought him for 25m just so he could be mistreated? |

TheSuperNerd: And truth is even if we wanted them for the U-23s on the 10th, I don't know if Rohr will release Chuks, Awaizem, Uzoho and Osimhen. Both teams play same day. The best Imama would have gotten would be Ozornwafor, Chidera Ejuke, Hillary Gong, plus some more but well... he's made his selections and I just choose to believe we will turn things around in the 2nd leg. I hope the midfield combo of Frank Onyeka and Azubuike Okechukwu be picked... and the picked wingers perform and feed Odey and Awo enough to finish off the Sudanese. Rohr has already said he didn't invite certain players to let them play for the U23s. If I were Rohr, I'd tell Imama to get lost. WE have a large and talented pool of U23s... Why must he need bailing out everytime? |
