Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 2 Division/Sector 3, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued nine kidnapped victims during a coordinated night patrol around the Kogi–Kwara border.

The victims, comprising four men and five women, were rescued on October 13 at Essalu community in Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State. They were reportedly abducted from Matoku community in Patigi Local Government Area of Kwara State on September 24.

Army Intensifies Rescue Operations

According to military authorities, the victims disclosed that terrorists invaded their community about three weeks earlier, abducting several residents and rustling an unspecified number of cattle.

The successful rescue followed sustained clearance operations by troops across Esanlu, Patigi, Babasango, Etsuyum, and adjoining communities between Kogi and Kwara States.

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested four suspects linked to a one-chance robbery syndicate and an attempted kidnapping operation, successfully rescuing two victims in Abuja.

According to a statement issued on Friday by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the gang had previously robbed at least six unsuspecting passengers across the city before being tracked down and apprehended.

The incident began at about 10:09 p.m. on October 8, 2025, when one Hajara Ali reported to the Life Camp Police Station that her sister, Comfort Habila, had been abducted by suspected one-chance robbers demanding ₦1 million ransom for her release.

“Upon receipt of the report, operatives from Life Camp Division immediately swung into action,” Adeh said. “Through the deployment of digital and tactical intelligence, the suspects were tracked and arrested on October 9, 2025, at about 4:30 a.m. at Dape Village after a near-deadly confrontation with the police.”

For ten years, Annastasia Kinse served God as a reverend sister under the Congregation of Mother of Perpetual Help of the Archangels Sisters. But after a decade of devotion, her world came crashing down. In this exclusive interview with The Bureau News, she recounts the pain, dismissal, and trauma that followed her decision to speak up against harassment.

“I Joined to Serve God”

Kinse, a native of Plateau State, joined the convent in July 2015 and made her perpetual vows in 2023, becoming the first reverend sister from her village. Before her dismissal, she served as a graduate assistant at Veritas University, Abuja, while pursuing a master’s degree.

“Religious life was my calling — a complete surrender to God,” she said. “I wanted to serve in sincerity and truth.”

The Dismissal and the Letter That Shattered Her

Her life took a drastic turn in mid-2025 when her congregation announced her dismissal publicly on Facebook and WhatsApp. A letter, dated July 21 but received by her on September 24, accused her of acting against her vows and identifying as a Muslim — claims she described as “completely false.”

“What truly happened,” she said, “was that I reported a case of sexual harassment at Veritas University. My report didn’t sit well with some people in authority. Instead of protection, I got punished.”

According to Kinse, the alleged harassment came from her head of department. She said she had voice recordings and videos as evidence. “I didn’t want to destroy anyone. I only wanted justice and to prevent him from doing it to others,” she explained.

Her confidential report soon became public. A disciplinary panel was convened — one she described as “intimidating and hostile.”

“They seized my phone, asked demeaning questions like, ‘Why did you go to his office if you knew he would harass you?’ It felt like I was the one on trial,” she recalled.

She said that despite requesting counselling and mental-health support, none was provided. “After that hearing, priests and other staff showed up at my house with a nurse. I felt trapped and scared,” she said.

Faith, Fear, and the “Conversion” Post

When asked about her viral Facebook post claiming she had converted to Islam, Kinse clarified it was an emotional outburst born out of despair. “It wasn’t a real conversion,” she explained. “I was angry and broken. My aunt, who died a Muslim, came to mind. It was grief and frustration — not apostasy.”

“They Sent a Priest Who Once Harassed Me”

She claimed that instead of compassion, her congregation sent a priest who had previously made advances toward her to “counsel” her. “He twisted the story and told lies against me,” she said. “That broke me completely.”

She added that she made repeated efforts to contact her bishop through messages and letters, which were later denied. “I gave ten years of my life to God’s service. But I was treated like I never existed,” she lamented.

Recounting her last day in the convent, Kinse said her belongings were dumped outside without explanation. “I got back and saw all my things scattered. My religious habit had been taken away. I took a picture because I couldn’t believe it. That night, I made a Facebook post to tell the world my truth.”

Despite her ordeal, Kinse says she hasn’t lost faith in God, only in the systems that failed her. “I still pray every day. But I’m healing slowly,” she said.

The Nigeria Police Force has announced major progress in its investigation into the killing of Arise News anchor Somtochukwu Maduagwu, revealing that credible leads have been uncovered on the gun suppliers who armed the suspects behind the attack.

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command had earlier arrested 12 suspects in connection with the September 29, 2025 robbery and murder at Unique Apartments, Katampe Extension, Abuja, where Maduagwu and a security guard, Barnabas Danlami, were brutally killed.

According to police findings, the gang sourced their weapons from a network of smugglers operating between Niger Republic and northern Nigeria. Those arrested include Shamsudeen Hassan, Hassan Isah (22), Abubakar Alkamu (27), Sani Sirajo (20), Mashkur Jamilu (28), Suleiman Badamasi (21), Abdulsalam Saleh, Zaharadeen Muhammad (23), Musa Adamu (30), Sumayya Mohammed (27), Isah Abdulrahman (25), and Musa Umar (31).

While briefing journalists in Abuja on Saturday, the Force spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, said investigators had already identified the locations of some of the arms suppliers and assured Nigerians that arrests would follow soon.

“We are yet to arrest a suspect in that regard, but we have very credible leads we are working on. We already know the location of some of the gunrunners and suppliers, and we assure Nigerians that in our subsequent updates, we will be able to tell you how far we have come,” Hundeyin stated.

Recovered items from the suspects include a locally fabricated AK-47 rifle, one pump-action gun, a locally made pistol, 36 rounds of 9mm ammunition, two live cartridges, four mobile phones, two knives, a cutlass, and two flashlights.

Hundeyin revealed that nine of the suspects are currently in custody, while three others are receiving treatment for gunshot wounds sustained during arrest operations.

He also confirmed that Shamsudeen Hassan was identified as the suspect who fired the shot that killed security guard Barnabas Danlami during the robbery.

Explaining the reason for parading the suspects publicly, Hundeyin said the move was taken due to intense public interest in the case. “This case is of national concern, and Nigerians deserve to see that the police kept their promise to apprehend those responsible,” he said.

He added that all suspects will be prosecuted once investigations are concluded, stressing that justice must prevail for Maduagwu and Danlami.

“It doesn’t stop there. These suspects will definitely be prosecuted as soon as we wrap up our investigation. Justice must be served. Mr. Somtochukwu and Mr. Danlami must get justice this time,” Hundeyin declared.
