Well done metabolic. I agree with #2 and #3. You may also need to add #6 Drinking alcohol during pregnancy. Even in small quantities, alcohol has been demonstrated to have significant impact on the well-being of an unborn child. For more info, check out thttp://www.healthx24.com/2016/12/25/drink-alcohol/
HealthRe: Drinking Water At The Right Time Could Save Your Life. See How by Edkay: 3:24pm On Dec 30, 2016
focusnow:
Did you know that drinking water could be a lifesaver? Pure, clean drinking water does so much to keep your body running smoothly. Find out how to staying hydrated helps protect your health…
Want to drink more water to benefit your health? Here are 6 times your body needs drinking water most.

1. Drink Water When You First Get Up
Imagine starting your car in sub-zero temperatures and putting it into gear without waiting for the engine to warm up. That’s a disaster waiting to happen.

The same is true of the human body. Without water to wake up and turn on the body in the morning, you may be running on empty, especially if you skip breakfast.
A glass of cool water right after you wake up tells your body that it’s time to get going. Like a gently flowing stream that pushes along debris and rocks, your circulatory system needs fluid to get rid of stubborn free radicals and residue from burned calories used during the night’s metabolism. more @ http://www.waterheals.top/
Nice one!
Water is essential to life. It is possible to go without food for several weeks. But no one can last more than a week without taking water. The human body inevitably loses water every minute. Every breath, sweat, bowel movement and urination leads to loss of body water. Surely, we need to replenish this regularly. Some have expressed concern that it needs to be regulated huh. HealthRe: See Common Sources Of Germs You Have Touched Today! by Edkay(op): 1:58pm On Dec 30, 2016
In conclusion, to reduce the risk of infection from these items, try to clean these objects regularly and avoid sharing them if possible. However, while every attempt should be made to keep these everyday items clean and free from germs, the truth is, it is NOT possible to keep your home sterile all the time. That is why the single most important way of protecting yourself from germs is hand washing.

Money notes and Debit or Credit Cards: You may have to handle cash during transactions. Some of these banknotes and cards too may be grossly contaminated. One 2016 study shows that coins and notes made of smooth polymer surfaces are likely to have lower levels of bacteria. According to a 2013 study in the UK, some notes may carry more germs than the toilet seat! This may be higher in countries were poor attention is giving to personal hygiene. undecidedThink of some ingenious ways Naija people keep cash grin

TV remote: Like a lot of people, the TV remote may be one of the first things you touch when you get home. Or it could come when you want to relax after doing some work in the kitchen, washing, using the bathroom and been exposed to other potential sources of germs. In any case, how many people actually remember to clean the TV remote? Well, germs may easily spread as the remote is passed from one person to another.

Steering wheel: Do you know that the steering wheel may be dirtier than a public toilet? This was the outcome of a study by Dr. Ron Cutler in the UK. The steering wheel is something you grip (sometimes tightly) with both hands. You may do so on hot afternoons, with sweaty hands and if you have a cold, your hands may move back and forth from napkins, papers, towels to the steering wheel. So, you should wipe it clean from time to time.

Door handles: Doors keep us safe by keeping unwanted persons out. However, they don’t prevent germs from coming indoors. Door handles may easily be contaminated after playing or working outdoors. Because everyone coming in has to use it, it may be a common source of infection. Do you know that some germs may remain on hard surfaces for up to 24 hours! Long enough to re-infect other. huh

You may have to wash your hands in the bathrooms, but what happens when you touch an unclean door handle after washing your hands? You would probably leave with more germs. So having a paper to open such doors is especially important when using public toilets. cheesy

1. Phones: Although you are not likely to share your mobile phones with others, you should consider what your phone comes in contact with every day. Where do you keep your phones before and after calls? How clean is the pocket, purse, table and other places? Do you occasionally use the phone in the bathroom? If your answer is yes, you should take another look at the phone and endeavor to keep it free from germs by wiping it clean regularly. So, when’s the last time you cleaned your phone?

Do you have any tips on easy trouble free ways of cleaning phones? Pls share!

Germs are everywhere. Of course, you know that toilets and dirty places or items are germ-ridden. But what of things we come in contact with every day? In some cases, that’s the source of infections, making germs spread unnoticed.

Consider Paul, who had common cold symptoms-coughing, runny nose, and sneezing. Within a few days, other members of Paul’s developed similar symptoms. Paul’s mom wondered how the infection spread since she took precautions to avoid direct contact with Paul during this period.

Well, she apparently overlooked everyday items that easily get contaminated and facilitate the spread of germs. Common cold is spread when persons touch surfaces contaminated with infected secretions.

Let's see some of them!

In many countries, drinking before the age of 16 is illegal, for good reasons.

Childhood and adolescence are periods of rapid growth and development. That is when children mature mentally, emotionally and physically. Out of curiosity, some kids may ask: Mum can I have a sip of your wine? And parents sometimes say ‘why not?’ That is really NOT good.

Did you know that alcohol has been described as a poison for children? That is why experts recommend that children should NOT be allowed to drink alcohol.

Why is alcohol dangerous for children?

Unlike adults, alcohol causes low blood sugar in very young children. This may lead to convulsions, coma and death.

When a child drinks alcohol, the normal development of vital organs such as liver, brain may be disrupted. This may have lifelong impact on his well-being.

HealthRe: 11 Ways To Deal With Depression In Your 20s by Edkay: 7:23am On Dec 30, 2016
What causes depression?

When a person is depressed, she may blame herself, attributing it to a personal weakness or moral failure. However, depression is regarded as a medical condition and most individuals have little or no influence on its onset. You may need to reassure a depressed individual that she is not at fault.

Although, the exact cause of depression is unknown, a number of things have been linked to its development. These include recent events, genetic factors, long-term and personal factors. Rather than one immediate cause or event, a combination of factors may be responsible.

Depression runs in families and some people will be at an increased genetic risk. Some people may be more at risk because of their personality, especially if they have a tendency to worry a lot. Having low self-esteem, high sensitivity to criticism and unusually high expectations may also make an individual susceptible. Furthermore, the evidence suggests that continuing difficulties increase one’s vulnerability to depression. These includes long-term unemployment, living in an abusive or uncaring relationship, long-term isolation, loneliness and prolonged work stress. That is why recent life events such as the loss of a loved one in death and losing one’s job can trigger depression in those already at risk. These factors may cause an imbalance in brain chemicals, which highlights the role of biological factors. Therefore, the presence of some medical conditions such as endocrine diseases (e.g. diabetes mellitus and hypothyroidism) and neurological diseases (for example stroke and Parkinson’s disease) may increase the risk of depression.

Drugs and alcohol use can both lead to and result from depression. Some individuals consume hard drugs to deal with feelings of depression. Rather than help to resolve these negative feelings, drugs may worsen or prolong the symptoms. In some cases, addiction sets in.

HealthRe: Why Is Depression So Common Among Medical Students? by Edkay(op): 6:40am On Dec 29, 2016
enchantedone:
medical students especially those in Nigeria are depressed because they are mostly put unda d most stressful conditions. there is little or no time 2 prepare 4 exams and at times ur results and d effort u put in preparing 4 an exam don't correlate. schools dont even help out at all, a school dat has a quota of 50 students can admit 80 students meaning dat by d end of studies 30 students would be dropped out .if u don't do well,u might be kicked out and u hv to try ur best not to because ur mum has already started telling pple to call her Mama Doctor. studies show dat most medical students are addicted to drugs. so with all dis problems hw won't a medical student be depressed?
You right! The pressure to succeed is quite high and resources and support low. While other students find time to relax, network and build relationships, med students are compelled to exclude all that. There have been cases of medical students engaging in self harm or committing suicide in Naija. How sad!
HealthWhy Is Depression So Common Among Medical Students? by Edkay(op): 3:14pm On Dec 28, 2016
A recent study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) has revealed that about one in four medical students have depression and one in ten experience suicidal ideation. These rates are much higher than the general population suggesting that there are peculiar factors related to being in med school that may make an individual vulnerable to depression.

Are medical students at high risk for depression and suicidal ideation? This is the question that Dr Rotenstein and her team sought to answer by systematically reviewing 183 studies of about 130000 medical students from 43 countries.

What was the outcome? According to the authors, 27.2% of medical students had depressive symptoms, while 11.1% had thoughts of suicide. This is an alarmingly high rate of depression.

Why is depression so common among medical students and doctors?

No one knows for sure. However, since stress contributes to depression, it stands to reason that a stressful medical school environment may be a possible factor.

One medical student who admitted to ‘’struggling with depression’’ throughout medical school said the depressive symptoms intensified with increasing stress and isolation. According to another medical student, ”it is difficult to navigate medical school without sleep deficits, social isolation and disappointments.”

Therefore, in addition to genetic and personality factors that may make a person vulnerable, exposure to medical training, which is tough and stressful, may have mental health implications.

Although, one would expect medical students to recognize symptoms of depression and seek help, the study revealed that this was not the case, as over 80% of medical students with depressive symptoms had failed to seek psychiatric treatment.

Why do only few medical students seek psychiatric treatment?

Doctors are trained to be maintain a calm posture in stressful situations. This training helps them to manage patients during medical emergencies and under extreme pressure. Therefore, when medical students disclose symptoms of depression to colleagues, it may be interpreted as a sign of weakness.

Unfortunately, it also makes it more difficult for medical students and doctors to reveal any sign of weakness, such as admitting they are ill or requesting for medical treatment.

This may have been the case of one first year resident doctor who recently committed suicide.

No one knew he needed help. According to one nurse who worked with the doctor, ”he stood out among doctors we have encountered because of his decisiveness, brilliance, kindness and humility. Our patients always had great praises for him, because he really showed how caring he was.”

According to JAMA, ‘‘Physicians generally receive little training in recognizing depression in patients, let alone recognizing it in themselves. Even if they do realize they need help, they are often reluctant to seek care because of the stigma surrounding mental illness and the fear that getting treatment could lead to the loss of their medical license.’’

The study highlights the need to address the issue of depression and suicidality among medical students and doctors in training worldwide.

In principle, no one should be prevented from reaching the zenith of his career. However, to prevent confusion in the course of treating patients (too many cooks syndrome) the limits of each professional group should be in black and white:
For example:doctors do not dispense medications. Lab scientist do not make diagnosis. Pharmacist do not write prescriptions. These are built in checks in health systems for patients safety and welfare.
Secondly, while, different groups may be involved in different aspects of patient care, only one should provide leadership and accept ultimate responsibilty for the patient (like a football team manager). This explains why no one considers suing lab scientists, Nurses, Pharmacists when patients are ill managed.

Like academics, competent doctors provide essential n indispensable services(many provide free consultations daily), so there's no need to panic. Perhaps someone should start a thread on opportunities in other countries...australia, canada, south africa, US, New Zealand are viable places for docs now. Even UK currently has a severe shortage in A n E now and currently pays a month's sal for 24hr locum work.
