Politics / Re: Questions For Sanusi Lamido Sanusi by Edoji: 11:00am On Aug 22, 2009
It is important to separate the multifaceted actions taken this week by Sanusi and analyse each on its merit rather than lumping them together. In this way, we could then analyse his decision to sack the bank bosses clear-eyed and devoid of emotion:
Sanusi’s actions were threefold; Firstly, sacking of the Bank executives, releasing what CBN’s examiners unravelled following the audit exercise; secondly, releasing the names of Billionaire debtors that brought down the 5 Nigerian Banks and the details of their account, and: thirdly, handing them over to the EFCC  for arrest and possible prosecution.

Politics / Questions For Sanusi Lamido Sanusi by Edoji: 3:08pm On Aug 21, 2009
On Agust 4, Sanusi Lamido agreed that “the removal of any bank’s board and its management would not in any way solve the systemic problems in the banking sector, and that the CBN’s immediate concern was on how to institute measures that would ensure that the banks are healthy and can meet minimum capital and liquidity ratio requirements to perform their primary role of intermediation at interest rates that do no emasculate the lending public”.

While Nigerians are generally happy that action are being taken to clear the rot in the banking sector, yet some are asking: Why would Sanusi rush to take action against 5 banks when the auditing of the remaining 14 banks is still ongoing? Is Sanusi Lamido Sanusi on a vendetta against this “Delta State-born Igbo-speaking boss” and her cohorts for leading the campaign against his candidacy as the CBN Governor? Was Sanusi properly briefed on the effect his action would have on investor’s confidence on our economy and its banking system? Finally, was due process followed in sacking the bank bosses?

Now that Otedola has reconciled with the one he called 'Chemical Ali', Who now will answer these questions he posed to Dangote?
1. Who is behind the killer Indomie?

2. Who ruined Ibeto?

3. Who burnt five-alive Benin Plant, is it not a ploy to have Dansa Juice to dominate the market?

4. Who planned the poison attempt on Femi Otedola?

5. Why has he decided not to issue a statement to distance himself from the allegations on manipulating the AP shares?

6. Why is he still a vice president of the Nigerian Stock Exchange?

7. How did he acquire Benue Cement Company?

There are other deadly things Otedola accused Dangote of commiting in this link http://elombah.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=1335:the-indefatigable-aliko-dangote&catid=52:daniel-elombah&Itemid=73
Politics / Re: The Difference Between Bola Tinubu And Tunde Fashola by Edoji: 2:38pm On Aug 14, 2009
Tinubu has gone back to mend with Fashola because of the realisation that Lagosians are ready to do anything for Fashola even if he switches to another political party in what observers have termed the battle for 2011.
Lagosians have come to view Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN) as a trained legal mind with unusual dextrousnesses and quintessential ability to do what he wants to do. A commentator observes: Fashola represents the "light" of an ideal democracy and good, effiecient leadership/governen ce we desire in Nigeria. but Tinubu as a greedy man, http://elombah.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=1304:tinubu-begs-fashola-&catid=36:omoba&Itemid=59

The determination of his godfather to hold firmly to the reins of power in the state has been having negative impact on the determination of the present Governor to develop the state and make it compete with its megacity counterparts around the world. Suffice to add that the overbearing influence of the former Governor is threatening the hitherto cordial relationship between the Governor and his godfather.

Politics / Bankole Disbands The Elumelu Committee And Finally Lets Obasanjo Off The Hook by Edoji: 1:48pm On Jul 31, 2009
In a show of shame, Dimeji Bankole has disbanded The Committee on Power, headed by Elumelu, which indicted Obasanjo and his cronies, Imoke and Agagu for squandering $16 billion meant for the power sector by former President Obasanjo.

However Nigerians will not forget that $16 billion and 8 years later, there is still no light in Nigeria.

What happened to this money and who are the culprits?

Politics / Re: Why Didn't Obama Apologise To Africa? by Edoji: 5:22am On Jul 14, 2009
back2back:

the poster is not talking about Nigeria Govt. stay on the issue.

the post was clear:

Obama did not have the courage to admit and take full responsibility for the role of America in the ruination of the continent.

apology means you accept resposiblity and ready to right the wrong you caused whoever you apologise to.

The veracity of the above should be clear to whoever takes the time to read the entire article.

Obama was clearly apologising to Europe when he said, "there have been times where America has shown arrogance and been dismissive, even derisive,  "
He was also apologising to the Muslims when he said "More recently, tension has been fed by colonialism that denied rights and opportunities to many Muslims, and a Cold War in which Muslim—majority countries were too often treated as proxies without regard to their own aspirations, I've come here to Cairo to seek a new beginning"

In Ghana, Obama while saying that "Africa's future is up to Africans,  the world will be what you make of it." should also have admitted that US's own economic interests in Africa have frequently overruled the democratic, good governance agenda which he spelled out on Saturday.

He should have mentioned, for example America's $31bn in subsidies for US farmers which squeeze some African farmers out of the market, and at least admitted the US role in supporting dictators during the Cold War, an apology many Africans would like to hear.

And like he implied to the Muslims and the Europeans, accepting this responsiblity means he is ready to right the wrongs America caused through specific measures.
Politics / Re: Why Didn't Obama Apologise To Africa? by Edoji: 8:05pm On Jul 13, 2009
My detractors on this trade entirely misses the point. They fails to appreciate that one set of truth does not render another set of truth irrellevant.

That President Obama spoke some home truths to African leaders does not belie the fact that he failed to admit the dubious role America has played that contributed to the ills of the African continent.

Even a white British, Richard Dowden in his article 'Fine words, but will Africa Listen' (here http://www.elombah.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=1134:fine-words-but-will-africa-listen-richard-dowden&catid=36:omoba&Itemid=59) said

"There are, on reflection, things that Obama might also have mentioned, for example America's $31bn in subsidies for US farmers which squeeze some African farmers out of the market. And Obama, always careful to say he is American but of African parentage, leapt from colonial times to the present without mention of the US role in supporting dictators during the Cold War, an apology many Africans would like to hear".

He added:
"Obama made no mention of the US's own economic interests in Africa which have frequently overruled the democratic, good governance agenda which he spelled out on Saturday".

I have written other articles that was prescient on Obama's speech last Saturday approvingly here(http://www.elombah.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=517:barack-obama-and-the-corruption-of-african-leaders&catid=25:politics&Itemid=37)

But that does not belie the truthfullness of what I said above.
Politics / Why Didn't Obama Apologise To Africa? by Edoji: 12:54am On Jul 13, 2009
Obama apologised to Europe during his trip to France in April 2009. He sounded apologetic to the Muslim world in his speech in Cairo, Egypt. But during his trip to Ghana he stated that Africa should take responsibility for their multifarious problems.
Obama did not have the courage to admit and take full responsibility for the role of America in the ruination of the continent.

Obama has come and gone, the speech is classic and the rhetoric is exceptional. But the best way to test whether he would be different from other American presidents is to explore the question of African strategic interests, or, alternatively, American strategic interests in Africa, and examine the ways in which and the degree to which Obama's pursuit of American policy is consistent with or diverges from that of his predecessor, George W. Bush.

some studies are finally being done on such issues. It is no secret among Africans that these things happen, but nothing is ever said about them. They are swept under the rug and we pretend they do not happen, yet there are many affected by this. As the article mentioned, there are very limited resources to help both the the victims and the perpertrators.
Crime / Have You Ever Raped A Girl by Edoji: 12:50pm On Jun 30, 2009
In south Africa, one in 4 men had committed rape. Of 92 young people convicted of involvement in gang rape in London, 66 were black or mixed race.
In Nigeria, masters rape their maids, sons rape the maids, some fathers reportedly even rape their daughters and yet these girls are shamed into silence, afraid of the long term societal consequences of exposure.

Politics / Nigerian Govt Or Oil Firms, Who Is To Blame For The Niger Delta Crisis? by Edoji: 2:22pm On Jun 23, 2009
http://elombah.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=1020:govt-or-oil-firms-who-is-to-blame-for-niger-delta-crisis&catid=49:hardtalk

The Federal Government blames the Oil Companies for Niger Delta crisis and submitted that negligence on the part of oil led to oil spillage, gas flaring, and water and air pollution, which in turn engendered the current youth restiveness in the region. But the nation's oil producers blamed the Federal Government's penchant for greed for the continued gas flaring in the oil-rich Niger Delta region. Unfortunately, while this blame game goes on, the indigenes of the Niger Delta bear the brunt while the whole country suffers.

So I ask, Govt or oil firms, who is to blame for Niger Delta crisis?

More than 25 percent of South African men have raped; of those, nearly half said they had raped more than one person.
The study used a Statistics South Africa model of one male interviewee in each of 1,738 households across all racial groupings, and from a range of socioeconomic backgrounds in both rural and urban areas. Half the men in the study were under 25 years old and 70 percent were under 30 years old.

the House of Representatives have concluded their strategy to remove the House Whip, Mr Emeka Ihedioha

Why must Igbo politicians always allow themselves to be used as pawns in the games of more strategically minded politicians from other zones? – The case of Chuba Okadigbo and Anyim Pius Anyim readily come to mind.

It is instructive to note that after the “resignation” of Madam Speaker Etteh that all the other zonal caucuses in the House returned their candidates except the South East zone that changed Bethel Amadi.

What is the position of other members of the South-East caucus in the whole saga? Emeka was elected by the South-East caucus and it is them alone that could remove him and not by any outsider. The members of the South-East caucus of the House should ponder this:
The House is facing a more embarrassing case of six billion naira REA power scam with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The Speaker of the House, a Yoruba, has been implicated in the shameful scandal. Why is the South-West Caucus of the House not pushing for his impeachment?

Who is afraid of Emeka Ihedioha? What is his real or imagined sin?

on Friday, April 3,2009. Obama declared: “ America has an obligation to provide Kenya help on a whole range of issues, but if Kenya doesn't solve its own corruption problem, then Kenya will never grow. It will never be able to provide for its own”.

He added, “A well-functioning society does not just depend on going to the ballot box. It also means that you're not going to be shaken down by police because the police aren't getting properly paid. It also means that if you want to start a business, you don't have to pay a bribe. I mean, there are a whole host of other factors that people need to -- need to recognize in building a civil society that allows a country to be successful.”

Obama has indicated that he wouldn’t balk from the challenge of telling African leaders to their face to tackle corruption, to stop stealing from their country

In a note signed and sent to the Head of the Cameroonian State through the U.S. embassy in Yaounde, the Obama administration listed the names of the Cameroonian politicians banned from the country. America justifies this decision by the results of investigations by their agents on the accounts of some Cameroonians abroad and on U.S. territory.
