valentino057996: *This Is Not for Civil Servants: A Mockery Masquerading as Marketing*
There is a rising phrase in the marketplace of modern Nigeria. It is not born out of wit or wisdom, but from the dark wells of mockery. “This is not for civil servants.” That is the line, now stamped on car ads, promoted in social media skits, and tucked beneath the lips of the self-satisfied elite. It began with an Abuja car dealer who, in his bid to sell exotic cars, decided to insult an entire class of working Nigerians. What he called a catchy line is in fact a sneer, a slap in the face of decency.
Yesterday, I watched a video that pushed the mockery even further. A young man stood before a pen of rams, advertising them for the upcoming Eid celebration. The prices he mentioned were obscene, starting at 3.5 million naira. For rams, not elephants. With confidence soaked in arrogance, he smiled at the camera and said, “This is not for civil servants.” And the crowd laughed. People reposted the clip. Some added emojis. No one seemed to pause and ask, “What exactly are we laughing at?”
We are laughing at our nurses. At our teachers. At our clerks and secretaries. We are mocking those who keep government schools open, who record files, who monitor roads, who issue documents, who teach children how to write, read and think. We are laughing at those who have served this nation with decades of loyalty and have almost nothing to show for it. It is not funny. It is cruel. It is psychological torment clothed in humour.
More disturbing than the mockery is the mindset it reveals. It reflects a culture obsessed with wealth at all costs. We now measure human worth by bank balance, not by value, virtue, or contribution. It is the reason prices of basic things are bloated intentionally. It is the reason many now sell products not to meet needs but to manufacture social classes. A ram becomes a symbol of status. A price tag becomes a tool of humiliation.
What message are we sending? That honest work leads to disgrace? That civil service is a punishment? That the only way to earn respect is to become a millionaire, no matter how?
The damage is deep. When the phrase “this is not for civil servants” becomes a national joke, we are saying that labour is laughable, that discipline is a mistake, and that only crookedness deserves comfort. If this continues, a time will come when even the air we breathe will be branded, "Not for civil servants."
We must reject this culture. We must remind ourselves that wealth is not virtue. That ridicule is not wit. That every man who earns honestly deserves honour, not pity. The civil servant may not wear designer suits or drive a foreign car, but his place in the nation’s story is sacred. His sweat oils the engine of the country.
We need to stop laughing and start thinking. Above all, we need to start correcting. If civil servants cannot afford this or that, it means many things are wrong. Hopefully, someday soon, they won’t say, “This babe is not for civil servants. He cannot marry her.”
©️ Civil servant has been reduced to poverty by Tinibu devaluation . Even indome seller now earn more than Civil servant . So blame politicians for destroying income |
Politics › Re: Nothing Will Prevent Tinubu From Winning 2027 Election – Yakasai by Educationalserv: 4:46pm On May 18, 2025 |
yns4real: An elder statesman, Alhaji Tanko Yakasai, has said at the moment, nobody has better chances of defeating President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
Yakasai stated this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Abuja.
He also said that as a key member of Arewa Consultative Forum, he was not aware of any forum where a position was taken by the north supporting a candidate from the zone for the 2027 presidential election.
“I haven’t heard anybody making any proposition about the 2027 presidential election from Arewa Consultative Forum.
“What is tagged the Arewa Consultative Forum or Northern Elders Forum’s position is mere individual opinions, because all sections of the north have not taken a stand on this,” he said.
Yakasai said that Nigerians should wait until the northerners meet and officially take a position.
” In Nigeria today, Bola Tinubu is the president. He has his ministers and governors who are backing him.
“Who else has all what it takes to move into the contest with the kind of stamina and strength to be more successful comparatively with Tinubu?” he asked.
Yakasai said that aside the ruling All Progressives Congress controlling majority of states, there are some other governors from the opposition parties still supporting Tinubu.
“We should all wait and see if the picture will change drastically, otherwise for now, the odds are in his (Tinubu’s) favour because I have not seen anything that will prevent him from winning the next election.
“He hasn’t done anything against the north in my understanding and the north alone cannot decide who becomes the president of the country,” he said.
According to him, the crisis rocking some of the major opposition parties has further softened the grounds for Tinubu to win in 2027.
In terms of assessment of the administration in the last two years, Yakasai said that he would not do so, for now.
He, however, advised Nigerian politicians to always have the interest of the masses at the centre of their actions and plans.
“Our politicians should see politics as a dynamic game and what I will advise is for them to play the game on the basis of ideology and programmes.
“Let them envision the way they want the country to be and not targeting to be ministers, governors and president.
“After becoming all these and nothing is done in the interest of the country, we will not get better.
“They should eschew politics of ethnicity and religion because not making our country the focal point of our politics has held us down for so long,” he said.
On the factors he could attribute his longevity to, Yakasai who would turn 100 years in December said it was a gift from God.
He said that his father died at the age of 107 years and that his mother died at almost 100 years, adding that the combined effects of the two might have equally contributed to his longevity.
“My children, grandchildren and great grandchildren are more than 80 and still expanding. I give glory to God for these,” he said.

thesicilian: Yeah, they did. You know why that didn't work out? In 2015 they had a president who valued his peace of mind, and the lives of ordinary Nigerians more than his personal or party ambition. So Jonathan decided to step aside rather than allow the dogs and baboons to become soaked in blood according to Buhari's threat of war.
But this time around things are not the same. We actually have a president that doesn't care about anyone else apart from himself and his party, the APC (which interestingly originated from the same CPC that threatened war and everywhere being soaked in blood a decade ago). So my brother, it's not about propaganda, it's about the stark reality of the corrupt nature of the ones in charge, and the ineffectiveness of the opposition and their strictly online armies. he Lost the Election that why he step down .he was not force out He had control of police ,army ,CNN etc he as not a good politician and was too Confident of PDP. If he had plan to win without shedding any blood is very possible .his strategic team was not Smart . 1 . Appoint a baised INEC Chairman 2. Don't fund the use of Card reader but Ballot 3 . emmaodet: Opportunity cost. In an economy with high inflation, the borrower wins while the lender loses. I believe you know a 1m now is better than 1m next year because a 1m last year worths more and would have bought more than a 1m today. Why wait to save 2m per year from 10m I invested in TB/bonds/MF for 3 years to buy a 5m car by 2027 when I can use my investment as loan to buy the 5m car now. By 2027, yes you would have been able to save the 5m from your investment without taking loan but that money won't be able to buy that car again because it could have worth 7/8m then but if you borrow to buy now, you are returning back a less worthy money back to the lender. There are opportunities you will lose trying to save us before doing somethings, hence loan looks okay. A land that sells for 5m now you don't want to take the loan for to buy won't be the same price 3 years from now if you save to buy it. Lafarge(wapco) was #35 per shares last year November, if I had waited to save up to buy, I would have lost the opportunity to buy cheap when the opportunity arose. I took the ucap loan, bought lafarge and less than 6 months , it has risen to #77. More than 100%. If I am to be using my interest on TB or bonds to buy, I would have only bought few then and when the next cash comes, I will be buying at expensive price. A 10m loan in wapco in November will be worth 21m now, remove the principal and interest and you will still be left with close to 10m in profit but Hey, we are all different. Different faces, different backgrounds, different way of seeing situations and executing it which is where the rich differs from the poor. How we maximize the opportunities in our hands. As our names, face, date of birth and death and mode of death differs, so is how we will see and do things differently. some Valid points . A land I saw for 31m naira 2023 now 75m it reprice itself well if I took a Loan then to buy it will have paid back 45m and made 30m . Also a friend bought an asset for 17m fiance by a bank paid back 22m Loans + interest Sold asset for 25m after 3 years cos price of the assets have Jumped to 40m |
