Olurote: Good day, I want to start trading shares and I know next to nothing about how it is done. I am thinking of dedicating 5k every month. I would like to know the necessary steps, the accounts to open and the brocker that will be good for me. I know this might be a repetition as a lot of persons might have asked similar question but please, save me the stress of having to go through the over 1400pages here. Thanks in anticipation. Just search for the websites of Meristem Stockbrokers Nigeria and MorganCapital Securities Limited Nigeria, from the websites you should be able to get the necessary information. NOTE: I use the above named stockbroking firms and that is the reason I mentioned them. There are other good ones(Google is your friend)! |

duni04: Case study: Closure date : 26 - 30 September 2015. If you're still holding as at 10:15am on the 26th of September, you qualify for dividends. This is clear enough. Now the dividend questions can stop! My Bro.,to get one's dividends at times is like someone is looking for an oil company job! The CSCS and registrars should work together to make this dividend matter easy(there shouldn't be any need of filling forms,it should be automatic in nature, one's bank details should be sent to registrars through the medium of stockbrokers/CSCS). |
Investment › Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by EDUECO(m): 7:55am On Mar 26, 2016 |
jauntty: I think I mixed up qualification day with closure day. I was referring to the closure of register in my example The seller would get the dividend since the shares was sold to the buyer on closure of register day or date(because the seller held the shares throughout the qualification date, that is,March 22 for Afriprud). |
Investment › Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by EDUECO(m): 7:47am On Mar 26, 2016 |
jauntty: How about those who bought on qualification day if the price is adjusted for Dividend for that day? who gets the div, the buyer or seller ?
e.g Afriprud price was adjusted for div on 23rd at the opening of the market March 22 was the qualification date for Afriprud.,the buyer of the shares on qualification date gets the dividend since the person is holding till the end of trading that day(qualification date). |

jauntty: How about those who bought on qualification day if the price is adjusted for Dividend for that day? who gets the div, the buyer or seller ?
e.g Afriprud price was adjusted for div on 23rd at the opening of the market Adjustment of price for dividend(mark down date) has never been done on the qualification date! Mark down date(that is,the first day of closure of register when it is more than 1 day) is always a trading day immediately after the qualification date. |

EDUECO: You don't need to be an insider to know that FBNH will never report a loss Even WEMA Bank never reported a loss for 2015 Financial Year! |
Investment › Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by EDUECO(m): 5:25pm On Mar 25, 2016 |
megainvest: It is very obvious. They can not report a loss for FY 2015. You may ask me why. 1. The last press release said they will discuss dividend payment. A loss making company will not even consider dividend payment. 2. Their profit warning said that FY PAT was materially lower than for 2014. It didn't say there was no profit at all. 3. Q3 results tells the whole story.
FBNH can decide to declare 5 kobo dividend if they want but they will not declare a loss.
You know what I'll type next....... This is not a buy or sell recommendation You don't need to be an insider to know that FBNH will never report a loss |

@justineu: Self Education is the best way to become a good Equity/Stock Investor or Trader,it is more challenging than Medicine/Dentistry, Engineering,Pharmacy, Law,et cetera combined together because there is no Formal School where one can go to study Equity Investment! The real Equity Education begins the moment you start to buy and sell shares of companies. The first step in the Equity Education begins with learning the numerous terminologies. If you are tenacious and consistent in your Equity Education,in 2 to 3 years you would have learnt the fundamentals of Equity Investment! The journey of a thousand miles begins with a step(Chinese Proverb). Rule 1,don't lose money;rule 2,don't forget rule 1(Warren Buffett)! |

Examples of the PhD holders he is referring to are the ones in most Nigerian universities, many of the PhD holders are just charlatans, most of them cannot proffer solutions to simple problems! They are only good in engendering the culture of mediocrity and ineptitude! |

manie: It is very rare to turn N50,000 to N500 million within 10 years, except if you build your own company and then have an IPO using inflated valuation methods to scam gullible investors.
N50,000 that gives a consitent return of 100% for 10 years will give roughly N50 million and this type of return is not sustainable for 5 years talkless of 10 years. Sir,you're probably right! |
