The State Government has commenced its #20million per community Choose-your-project development initiative with Nnobi Community in Idemili South Council Area. The Townhall project which was chosen by the Community and approved under the State Government’s Contract Tenders and Approval System, has a 500 Seating Capacity, 5 modern toilet facilities, Office rooms and other ancilliaries.Performing the flag off, Governor Obiano who revealed that all the 179 Communities in the State will benefit under the initiative, said the money for the projects have made available and secured, adding that the Contractor for the Nnobi project has been fully mobilized to site.
While noting that the next milestone payment will be made immediately the Consultant certifies that tangible work has been done, the governor assured that the project will be completed by the end of January next year.
He expressed the hope that the project will help stimulate the local economy in the present recession by creating job and wealth opportunities for indigenes of the community, urging the people to take full ownership of the project. Earlier, the Commissioner for Government, Chieftaincy and Town Union Matters, Mr Greg Obi explained that the project was well thought through and the choice and implementation, designed in a manner that will guarantee that it is people-based and hailed the governor’s vision and his strongwill to accomplish his vision.
In an address, the President General of the Town, Dr Samuel Ofordile acknowledged that the Community has benefited immensely from the present administration and said the project will immortalize the governor in all communities of the state. Also speaking, a community leader from the town, Dr Mike Omenugha said the project when completed, will serve a rallying arena for people of the community as well as a means of raising funds for the growth and development of the town.
In a vote of thanks , the Member representing Idemili South in the State Assembly, Bar Chuka Ezenwune commended the governor for his genuine commitment towards the development of communities in the State, and said Nnobi community will reciprocate his kind disposition towards them by supporting his administration and APGA.

A 3-year-old boy has been rescued after surviving three days alone in the wilderness in a remote part of Siberia, authorities said.The boy, Tserin Dopchut, disappeared on Sunday after wandering away from his house while playing with dogs in the small village of Khut in the Pyi-Khemskiy district in Russia's Tuva republic, the republic’s president wrote in a statement announcing the rescue.
The little boy survived the next 72 hours without a coat and just a bar of chocolate. Temperatures sometimes dip close to zero in the sparsely populated area, prowled by wild animals including wolves and bears.
Local elite police units, as well as rescue dogs, were dispatched to help in the search effort. The boy was eventually found by police nearly 2 miles from his house, lying in a field, the TASS state news agency reported.He called out when he heard his uncle calling,” Tuva’s president, Sholdan Kara-ool wrote in the statement, posted on his official social media account. Kara-Ool said the boy had found a dry spot under a tree to sleep, which helped him to keep warm.Everyone is calling him 'Mowgli.' Even the adults are surprised by his endurance and his survival,” Kara-Ool wrote.

Google is announcing a couple of upgrades to its ad capabilities today as part of the DMEXCO digital media conference in Germany.First up are its Universal App Campaigns, where developers can promote their apps
across search, display, Google Play and YouTube advertising. Google says these campaigns have resulted in more than 3 billion app downloads, but earlier this year, it also said developers would be able to target users who are likely to take a specific action (not just installing the app). Now it’s announcing that this targeting option is available to all advertisers.
Here’s how Google lays out the process in its official blog post:
You get to choose the in-app activity you want to optimize for, whether that’s tapping into a deal or reaching level 10, and can use third-party measurement partners or Google’s app measurement solutions like Firebase Analytics to measure those activities. Ever been to a party, club or any other social hangout where a Disc Jockey is providing the music, and
after close to an hour of back-to-back music, you realize that it just sounded like one really long song? Ever listened to a number of radio stations, especially during the drive time period, and you’re listening to one song after the other and then it hits you… you can’t tell one song from the other!

I am not even going to begin scrutinizing the lyrics of a lot of our artistes these days, especially the “young cats”, because then I’d start sounding like a broken record. What really bothers me is that our artistes are gradually losing their identity, if they had any in the first place. My fingers are itching to write out the names of some popular artistes and their sound-alikes, but then that would make me veer off course, but I’m sure you know some of them. Through the evolution of Nigerian music, we have seen the different genres and brands of music gain popularity and garner a whole lot of attention and love because someone was bold enough to break away from the norm and do something totally different from what their contemporaries were doing at the time.From King Sunny Ade, to Bright Chimezie, to Dan Maraya Jos, to Bongos Ikwe, to the legendary Fela Anikulakpo-Kuti, the list is near-endless. All these artistes have etched their names in the minds of music lovers, young and old, because they were able to block out the deafening noise around them, dig deep into their music treasury and birth a new sound that gradually caught on with countless music listeners.Talking about peculiarity in sound, I have a cousin who absolutely adores Phyno, Flavour and other music artistes from the Eastern region, Enugu especially. While I’m slightly introverted, more into my private space and love me my “me-time”, my cousin is more outgoing, noisy and annoyingly vociferous with his thoughts. Thanks to my cousin’s affiliation with Phyno and a couple of other artistes with Eastern roots, I get to sample (mostly forcefully, if I might add) a lot of Igbo, high life and pop songs by artistes doing their thing in the East. From Slow Dog, to Dutch, to Hype MC, to Xfinic, to Tidinz who by the way has this amazing cover of Desiigner’s Panda which he also shot a video for. I’ve had cause to visit the Eastern part of the country a few times, and I always like to know what songs are buzzing everywhere I visit. Without sounding bias in any way, I dare say that a lot of the undiscovered “cats” out there in the East would definitely give a lot of these lazy, over-fed, artistes a run for their money.Sadly many of these very talented artistes go unsung because they either give up on their music because it didn’t yield financial benefit as quickly as they would like, or because their kind of music never makes it into mainstream media, including those in Lagos… story for another day. Music of any kind, especially hip-hop, from the Eastern part of the county, was given a voice in the more musically-vibrant city of Lagos because one man dared to – against all odds and limitations you could think of – do music in his native Igbo dialect. His name is Mr Raw (or Dat Nigga Raw like he used to be called back in the day).
The late MC Loph was another artiste from the east that really caught the attention of music lovers from all over the country, especially with his banging hit single, Osondi Owendi featuring Flavour. Mr Raw and MC Loph may not be as popular as they used to be some years ago, but their daring strides in Lagos have motivated quite a lot of acts to come down here in search of fame and fortune, and I will cite three very prominent examples.

FLAVOUR

At a time when the highlife culture among Nigerian music lovers was gradually waning into extinction, this young man with dreads burst onto the scene with his mega hit, N’aba nia. Flavour’s style may not have immediately stuck with the music lovers but in a matter of weeks, almost everyone was singing along to his rhythm and like wildfire, Flavour’s music caught on with everybody.With musical projects including N’abania (2005), Uplifted (2010), Blessed (2012), Thankful (2014), Best Of Flavour (2015), Flavour has become a household in Nigerian music, with fans scattered all over the African continent and globally. It’s safe to say that Flavour has definitely brought high life music back.

PHYNO

Azubuike Chibuzo Nelson, better known by his stage name, Phyno, is no newcomer to the Nigerian music scene. What a lot of music lovers don’t know is that Phyno actually began his music career as a producer… as far back as 2003!
Phyno only began rapping in 2010 and I’m sure I don’t need to begin mentioning his musical achievements in such a young career as a rapper. Fact is, homeboy is doing pretty good for himself, especially for someone who used to rap in English but soon switched to rapping in igbo when pretty much all the rappers at the time were dropping punchlines and metaphors in Iya Charlie’s language; which was one of the reasons he named his successful debut album No Guts No Glory.Undoubtedly, Mr.Raw was an influence on Phyno’s career, and even Phyno himself admits it. Ironically a lot of people are more conversant with Phyno’s music because of not just his “new school” delivery, but his style, fashion sense and affiliation with the latest trends, not forgetting his near-spiritual musical connection with Olamide.

ZORO

To a lot of people, especially the ones who are not so familiar with music from the eastern part of the country, Owoh Chuimaobi Chrismathner, otherwise known as Zoro(or Zoro Swagbag), is a new face on the music scene. He is a Nigerian singer from Agwu in Enugu state, but believe me when I say the brother’s been spitting bars for quite a while now.
His hit tracks include Otu (Onitsha State of Mind), 042 (Enugu State of Mind) and the most popular one, Ogene (featuring Flavour). He’s since dropped the remix to Ogene featuring Lil’Kesh and Ycee as well as Achikolo featuring Phyno. I can tell you authoritatively that Zoro’s fan base in Lagos and other parts of the country is growing, and it can only get better for the young rapper.

The federal government and the oil and gas-producing companies operating in the country may have
lost about $3billion to the bombing of Forcados pipeline that conveys Forcados grade of crude oil to the 400,000 barrels per day Forcados Export Terminal, THISDAY’s investigation has revealed.Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) and other upstream companies operating in the western Niger Delta evacuate crude oil and condensates through the 48-inch subsea Forcados pipeline to the export terminal.Following a spill that occurred on February 14, 2016 on the subsea crude oil export pipeline, Shell had on February 21, 2016 declared force majeure on Forcados liftings effective 1500hrs (Nigerian time), due to the disruption in production.The company had also intensified efforts on containment and oil recovery, while also finalising repair plans, which the Minister of State for Petroleum, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, had initially said could be completed by May 29.A new militant group, the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) had claimed responsibility for the attack.
However, a fresh threat by the NDA to attack oil workers and contractors involved in the repairs, had frustrated efforts to meet the May 29 initial target.A source close to one of the companies that utilises the pipeline told THISDAY at the weekend that all the companies and the federal government might have lost an estimated $3 billion to the militant attack.If we talk about crude oil and gas, the companies and the government may have lost $3 billion revenue, based on the average oil price within this period. Collectively, 250,000 barrels per day – 300,000 barrels per day were shut-in and this represents the average daily loss and this has persisted for seven months at average oil price of $45. Assuming the pipeline is repaired this month, the loss may have lasted for seven months. We can’t quantify the loss by households and businesses as a result of power failure. Industries depend on gas also,” he said.Throughout this period, there is no gas for power generation. So, homes are in darkness and businesses depend on diesel generators. Industries are also short of gas and this increases operating costs. The total cost will be enormous when quantified,” he explained.Some of the companies using the pipeline have recorded zero production due to the attack,” he added.From a peak of $115 per barrel in June 2014, crude oil price, which hovered around $49 per barrel last week, had dropped to $27 per barrel in January before it rose to 2016 peak of $52 per barrel in June.Trans-Forcados Pipeline, which is operated by SPDC, belongs to the Nigerian Petroleum Development Company (NPDC), a subsidiary of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).Companies hit by the attack include: Shell, Seplat Petroleum Development Company Plc, Shoreline Resources Limited, Neconde, First Hydrocarbon Nigeria (FHN) and NPDC.Some marginal field producers such as Pillar Oil, Midwestern Oil and Gas, Platform Petroleum and Energia also convey their crude oil through the pipeline.

No fewer than 5,707 road crashes were recorded in Nigeria between January and August this year, leaving
3,048 people dead and 17,446 others rescued.The statistic released by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) yesterday, showed a slight reduction from the figure released for the same period in 2015, where a total of 3,233 people died and 17,189 others were rescued alive.
Stating that the agency has deployed about 20,000 personnel, 697 patrol vehicles, 283 motorbikes, 76 ambulances and 22 tow trucks across the country to tackle traffic challenges during Sallah, FRSC’s boss, Boboye Oyeyemi said the figures of road crashes are unacceptable and must be brought down. The statistic showed that more people died in January (529) compare to July and August combined (395), while 496 died in February, 513 died in March, 363 in April, 367 in May and 385 others in June.

An arrest warrant for the mother and daughter was issued on Friday and they were arrested and charged with incest and taken into custody at Stephens County Jail after appearing before Stephens County district court.
