After the normal check in procedure,we were checked in by 9am.Inside we underwent biometrics.My biometrics came late cos my number was omitted. My number later flashed for biometric and I did it then I went back to seat waiting to be called for interview.@ the windows,the women were giving more approvals than the men.Window 6 was a man in his late 30s.He was denying everyone.He even denied a man going going for conference who had even visited d US before.His first question was always " have u gone to the US before".If u answer in the negative,na sure denial be dat,all other question na formalty. When I observed d trend of the all d VOs questions I started praying dat I be interviewed by d lady in window 5.She dey give d visa like pure water.She go even ask question and help u answer d question self. Suddenly number 171 flashed in the mean guy's window and in seconds,the interviewee was denied.I thought my number will display there next but alas,it was displayed in window 4,seated there was a black American in her 50s. I just bounced from my seat,in my heart I was saying dis woman na my mama age mate,I go talk to her like I dey talk to my mama.I got to the window and here is the conversation.
Me:A very gud morning to u Ma (offcourse wit smile)
VO:Gud morning pass me docs.
Me:Here they are
VO:where r u going?
Me:Ohio ma
VO:Purpose of ur trip?
Me:studies.Masters degree
VO:Do u ve anyone in the US.
Me:No Ma,not any I can think of.

Mefor my mind I say which kind question be dis one na) then I replied: Ma,apart from the fact I got gud grade in my undergrad studies,I also wrote a gud statement of purpose clearly protraying my intentions to study.
VO:I can see u ve a provisional admission.
Me:Yes ma.it is provisional cos additional documents were required of me which I ve sent.
VO:ok. Have ur dad been to d US before?
Me;No ma
Vo:hw about ur mum?
Me:No ma.but my dad travels africa.
VO:typed for like 3min (for real,3min)
Me:saying silently "Woman I command u to give me this Visa in Jesus name"
And here came d words I longed after for d past 2 years,

I went outside raised my two hands in appreciation to God and tears rolled out freely.It was so much dat ppl outside thought I was denied and crying for dat.Na only me know y tears came out.

If you must book through an agent, insist on one way!. So many students here who got their visas this same fall semester with you travelled on one-way flights. So please, oga, be smart. Book one-way. Not return please.

Moreover, you can book yourself. I just checked out Egypt air and they are the cheapest for now. Booking yourself will be much cheaper for you as you'll be booking directly with the airline instead of going through an agent. Its just like registering for GRE at the lower price or N29,000 as compared to registering through an agent that will charge you N45,000.

Flight cost range for Lagos to New York on egypt air ranges from N180,000 to N250,000 on Egypt Air. Its very much affordable. Visit their site below and book by yourself please.

doctor234: Had my interview this morning at V.I, 10.30 appointment. I was anxious as I had been refused Immigrant visa before as a 12 year old. I was also going it with a substantial amount of loan from the school and a little scholarship, no personsal or family funding!
Inteview went like------

Me (with a well practiced smile):- Good morning madam
VO:- Hello good morning. Could you pass your documents?
Me:- Here they are. She suddenly starts scrolling through the computer for what looked like eternity and I was scared she was checking the details of the previous application.
Vo:- So what are you going to do in the US
Me:- To pursue a masters degree in Public health at Harvard University
Vo:- That's good. so why Public Health.
Me:- (I smiled as I had memorised one answer I saw on nairaland) It is the science and art of preventing disease, blah blah. As a Doctor I dont want to cure patients alone, I want to help in disease prevention in Nigeria blah blah
Vo:- (Lookin impressed with my last answer) So how did you come across the school?
Me:- I did a lot of my research on the internet and also my school professor (the dean of public health) who is also my mentor helped in finding the right schools (formatting!!!)
Vo:- did you apply to any other schools
Me:- Yes I did, Was accepted at John Hopkins, Emory, UNC, Harvard
Vo:- So how did you choose, never mind, ( with a wide grin! ) I guess you chose the best school
Me:- (Smiling back) Yes, I did
Vo:- Did you write GRE
Me:- I wrote GRE (Trying to bring it out)
Vo:- Dont worry, I dont need it. So how do you intend to pay for your school fees (packing my documents together)
Me:- I got full funding from the university in forms of loans and scholarship
Vo:- (Picking the popular white paper I've been hoping to get) You can pick up your visa and other documents at Ikeja on friday.
Me:- Thank you ma
Vo:- You're welcome. Have fun at Harvard!
I packed my sack of documents and left ( Of all the people that came today I probably brought the biggest load of documents because of my past denial record but wasnt ask for any except the regular 4/5)
I heaved a sigh of relief and said Thank you Jesus.

Lessons learned:
1) God's time is the best, keep comitting your plans to him, if you are meant to travel out, you'll go at the right time. If not try and make sense in 9ja
2) There is a bias towards Popular and highly ranked schools, even though they wont admit it, pls choose your schools wisely
3) If you're computer literate, dont use an agent for your school runs and application process, learn on the job with the help of anybody that has gone through the process. A guy didnt even know abt the sevis receipt because agent just pack everything give am! ( He was denied, reasons unknown though)
4) Prepare for the interview, nairaland was very helpful. There wasnt a question asked that i hadnt prepare to answer, even the stance, the smiles, the confident look. Just give it your best, because he no easy to spend one year preapare make dem come go deny you visa in 5mins.

The system doesn't work that way, the fact that You cancel your date immediately doesn't mean the person You want to exchange with will get it on his/her side.

Follow what Biggy has said, if You want to re-schedule, simply cancel your previous appointment and search for your preferred date.

. You ve never experienced it so I want to tell u from experience that it works. The moment I cancel d appointment 24 hrs to the date, that slot will pop up for all to view and select.

I have some certain questions to ask you guys.

1. I intend getting a Letter of sponsorship from my sponsor, using his company's letter headed paper because I'm using his company's Bank statement.
Should the Letter of sponsorship be Addressed to the US Embassy or should it be Addressed as "To whom it May concern"

2. My Maternal Uncle will be the one sponsoring me, should I include that he his My Maternal Uncle in the letter of sponsorship or I Should Just state ONLY in the letter os sponsorship that he his my Uncle.

3. I intend getting a Letter of Employment from my sponsor stating that I worked with him in his company as his Personal assistant. Because I graduated school 2007 and I will like to fill the gap.

Please what should be included in the Employment letter, Where is it addressed to. Will it be addressed to the US Embassy Address or my Home address.

Please I need your help guys. Your Contribution will be greatly welcomed.

2.Let him state that he is ur maternal uncle

You can get yours too from them. They are so Reliable and veryy fast.

They gave me a tracking number and I was able to track down my i-20 package till it got to me within just 3 days..

Why did you use Regular mail? Who even told you it will get here in 10 working days..

Ofcourse, Nipost is Reliable for Sending, But I don't think so For Receiving..

Some peeps receive their I-20 package through Regular mail in 2 months..

And also have this at the back of your Mind that It won't be easy for you to Book an appointment by JULY and still get a date at the Embassy by that same month. JULY

So I see you going to the Embassy by latest 2nd week of August if your i-20 package doesn't get here in time. And I really hope your school wouldn't have resumed classes.

And also why didn't you use a Pick up service to receive your i-20 package.. There are some cheaper courier services you could use for Pick up.

As for me, I used a Pick up service to receive my i-20 package and my package got to me in just 3 working days... And I paid #12,260 compared to FedEx and DHL that charge much more higher than the amount I paid.

The Only Advice I can give you Now is that, after 10 working days, don't wait at home for your package to be delivered to your doorstep ooooo.

Move to the post office and ask if they have received your package. Always check them frequently.

Don't Relax at home oooo. Because most of them might even receive the package in even 8 working days but will wait for like 2 weeks before they start dispatching packages and delivering it to various designated homes.

The same happened to me when I was expecting a package I bought Online from Amazon. They sent it through Regular mail (Nipost) and they didn't bring it to my home.

I Just went over to Nipost office oneday to ask if they had received my package, to my greatest surprise, those Nipost people had already received my package 1 week before i came to their office.

So you see what I'm telling you.
