Nairaland / General / 10 Things Every 20-something Should Do In 2014 by edygistvilla(m): 5:48am On Jan 01, 2014
1. Be active.Whether you're going to the gym twice a day every day or you're taking walks around your neighborhood three times a week, make sure you are doing some sort of physical activity on the regular. Don't say you're too busy for it... we're all busy. You just need to make time for it (especially if you sit at a desk all week long). Whether that time is on the weekend, at 5:00 a.m. every day, or right before you go to bed, make it happen. Five minutes of crunches is better than nothing.
2. Take a vacation. We are given mandatory vacation days for a reason. Don't use them all on days for appointments and visiting home. Go somewhere warm! Go somewhere romantic! Go somewhere exotic and different. You have your own money now. And you certainly deserve it.
3. Have a crazy night(s) out.No, you don't have to get wasted every time you go out. You don't even have to drink every time you go out. In fact, you don't even need to go out that much. But make sure you have at least one wild night this year when you do go out (preferably more than one). And by wild night, I of course mean drink so much that you do stupid things you will most definitely regret the next morning while puking up pizza in the toilet. Everyone needs a good story every now and then.
4. Think.Think before you spend. Think before you eat. Think before you tweet. Think before you drink. A problem with us 20-somethings is that we rarely think -- we just DO. We have (barely any) money, so we spend it. We hate saying no, so we constantly find ourselves eating poorly and drinking way too often. We are under pressure by Instagram and feel the need to add a filter to every single picture we take and then post it on all social media sites we use. We tweet whatever is on our mind. And we post things on Facebook in the heat of the moment. This year, think before you do any of the above. Please.
5. Cook something. As a 20-something, you need to learn to cook. You should already know how to cook Yam and eggs -- and know how to use the oven. Now, spice up your pasta and eggs with new recipes... and of course learn what to do with meat, whether it's in a pot, the oven, the stove, or on a pan. Of course, microwavable meals are nice when you worked late or are just way too busy. But to be healthy, you must cook! I'm not saying turn into a chef... but look easy recipes up online. Cooking is really not that bad.
6. Get rid of fake friends. And stop being fake yourself! You graduated school. You're in the real world. There's no need to keep pretending you like so-and-so just because they're friends with your friends and you feel you have to. But there's also no need to be mean to people. You're too old for that. Be cordial, but don't go out of your way to make a friendship happen that's just not going to happen. Focus that energy on new friendships with people you actually like. Don't exclude people, don't be cliquey, and ignore any drama that attempts to come your way. Do YOU and don't worry about anyone else.
7.watch a TV show.Or just start watching good TV (it's out there). Pay your 20-something dues and watch HBO'sGirls. See what the buzz was about this year and check outBreaking Bad. Dabble inHomeland. Put on a pair of sweatpants and NetflixOrange is the New Blackfor an entire weekend. You might feel useless, but it's okay to be a waste of space sometimes (really, it is).
8. Buy something valuable.Whether it be a phone, a computer, a TV, a tablet, or a designer bag, treat yourself. Embrace your inner responsible adult by buying something you could never afford in college and then be responsible for that item. It will be good practice for having a child. Okay, not really, but whatever.
9. Call friends and family. No one calls people anymore. We just tweet, text, and... well that's about it since Facebook wall writing is now a thing of the past. We don't listen to people anymore, so our conversations are completely impersonal. When someone is being nice, we sometimes mistake them for being rude and of course never say anything because it's just a text. This year, take a few minutes every week (or couple of weeks) to call people. Of course face to face communication is ideal, but if you have to resort to something else and you really want to catch up with someone -- or keep up with someone -- give them a call.
10. Relax. Stop planning something for every second of every day and take a break. It's okay to sit on the couch and watch trashy TV once in a while. It's okay to go to bed early to catch up on sleep on a weekend night. It's okay to do absolutely nothing for an entire weekend once in a while. In fact, it's almost necessary at this point in our lives. Take a minute or two to sit down and not think every once in a while. You'll appreciate the lack of stress in your life a lot more than you did back in school.

Health / 10 Hunger Facts For 2014 by edygistvilla(m): 5:21am On Jan 01, 2014
How many hungry people are there in the world and is the number going down? What effect does hunger have on children and what can we do to help them? Here is our list of top 10 hunger facts that everyone ought to know going into 2014.
1. About 842 million people in the world do not eat enough to be healthy. That means that one in every eight people on Earth goes to bed hungry each night. (Source: FAO, 2013)

Celebrities / TOP 10 Most Abused Nigerian Celebrities In 2013 by edygistvilla(m): 3:13am On Dec 26, 2013
As the year 2013 is coming to and end, we would like to present the list of Nigerian celebrities abused on Facebook, Twitter, blogs, forums and etc. most of all.
1. Tonto Dikeh

The talented actress, singer, dancer, activist and the self-acclaimed 'Poko Queen' has been subject of many controversies this year, ranging from envy, bleaching, indecency, delinquency and etc.
2. Cossy Orjiafor and Her Big Melons

Reputed to be the largest natural boobs in the Nigerian entertainment industry, they have also been a case of multiple controversies on social media. Its owner, Cossy, was often victimized for her big melons being too large, and always on display.
3. Beverly Osu

Facebook, Twitter, forums were full of Beverly's haters this year, especialy as she has became the first Nigerian to have life sex on a reality TV show.
4. Femi Fani Kayode

FFK is the originator of Nigeria first ever 'Intellectual Civil War'. It's hard to find anyone who can compete with him on controversial historical facts. This man knows all these like the back of his palms and he was greatly disliked by many Igbos for some of his statements.
5. Toke Makinwa

She's got beauty, dress sense, talent. We don't understand why many Nigerians hate her, but the funny thing is that she doesn't know how to handle her criticism, and you will never see her fighting on social media with a fan.
6. TB Joshua

If you don't want your mum to travel somewhere, just tell her that TB Joshua predicted an accident. This man is mostly criticised by believers, who argue that his deeds are often mysterious and suspicious. Many fake accounts on Twitter or Facebook use TB Joshua's name. One of them tweeted recently: 'ASUU strike would end when Arsenal starts winning trophies'.
7. Afrocandy

Nigerian actress and porn star Afrocandy has released Destructive Instinct soft port movie this year. The mother of two has no reason why she cannot dress the way Adam and Eve dressed after being created by God.
8. Eniola Badmus

This talented overweight actress, popularly known as 'gbogbo bigz girls' collected good money for breaking comedy Jenifa. She remains active on Instagram and Twitter and seems not to be moved by criticisms for being fat.
9. Wizkid

The most followed Nigeria celebrity on Twitter in some of his tweets showed disrespect to his fans. Nevertheless his fan base is growing, probably due to talented PR managers.
10. The Jonathans

He has been known for his trademark hats, she has been known for her eccentric language.
He had no shoes... She now has 3 PHd's.
He brought 'goodluck' for the Super Eagles... She is now called 'mama peace'.
These are just few ways of describing the 'Bonnie and Clyde' of Nigerian politics.
A wise man once said its impossible to please all the Nigerians. And indeed, this couple has had a fair share of insults from all the Nigerians.
The other people who also may have been included in the list are: Kemi Omololu Olonloye, Maheeda, Karen Igho, Ahmed Musa, Gambo, Senator Yerima, Jim Iyke, Juliet Ibrahim, Stella Oduah, Nyesom Wike
Travel / Africa In 2013: 10 Things We've Learnt by edygistvilla(m): 2:30am On Dec 26, 2013
From France's military intervention in Mali and the Westgate terror attack in Kenya to the ousting of Mohammed Morsi as Egypt's president and the death of South African anti-apartheid hero Nelson Mandela, it's been a momentous year for Africa.
But can you remember some of the quirkier headlines from 2013? Here are 10 things we've learnt in the last 12 months.
1) KENYANS CAN RUN FASTER THAN CHEETAH
Villagers in north-eastern Kenya last month outfoxed cheetahs who were picking off a farmer's goats by outrunning them over a distance of four miles (6.4km) during the hottest time of the day. The cheetahs were captured live and handed over to wildlife officers.
Botswana's leader Ian Khama didn't get off so lightly in his encounter with a cheetah earlier in the year. He needed stitches on his face after being scratched by one as it was being fed in its enclosure at an army barracks.

2) DR CONGO'S LEADER SHOULD BE A RALLY DRIVER
President Joseph Kabila drove himself 930km (575 miles) along treacherously boggy roads from the central city of Kisangani to eastern Democratic Republic of Congo to visit territory recaptured from the defeated M23 rebel group.
His car got stuck in the mud several timesduring the week-long journey and the presidential guards had to get out and push.

3) AFRICAN ART IS A BIG BUSINESS
Angola won the Golden Lion award for the best national participation at this year's Venice Biennale, the world's most prestigious contemporary art event. This was followed in London by the first international fair dedicated to modern and contemporary African art.
And Kenya also held its first commercial auction of East African art in the capital, Nairobi, which saw totals bids of more than $215,000 (£131,000).

4) SOMALIS DAIL 888 FOR EMERGENCIES
Police in the Somali capital launched an emergency telephone service for the first time in more than 20 years. Mogadishu residents can now call 888 and the police will be sent out.
It is one of several services to return to the city, including a new fire department, a taxi company and street lights.

5) OMOSEXY DOES HOUSEWORK
Nollywood star Omotola J Ekeinde, known to her fans as Omosexy, told the BBC she doesn't wear make-up at home and pounds her own yam, a food staple in Nigeria.
The Nigerian actress was named as one of Time Magazine's 100 most influential people in the world this year.
6) DREADLOCKS ARE VALUABLE
Thieves in South Africa are targeting people with dreadlocks, which they cut off and sell on the black market.
Shoulder-length dreadlocks are sold for between $23 (£15) and $70, while longer ones can fetch about $200.

7)MR MALBORO IS THE CONTINENT MOST-WANTED MAN
Islamist militant Mokhtar Belmokhtar was the mastermind of the deadly siege at an Algerian gas plant in January.
A one-eyed war veteran - he once fought Soviet forces in Afghanistan - he became known as "Mr Marlboro" because of his role in cigarette-smuggling across the Sahel to finance his jihad. For more than a decade French intelligence sources have described him as "uncatchable".

cool LiBERIA'S STUDENTS MAY NEED TO STUDY HARDER
None of Liberia's nearly 25,000 school-leavers passed this year's admission exam. A University of Liberia official said they did not have a basic grasp of English.
Ten years after the end of the West African nation's civil war, many schools lack basic education material and teachers are poorly qualified.

9) RUMBA STAR Tabu Ley Rochereau more prolific than most
DR Congo's much-loved musician Tabu Ley Rochereau died and thousands of people attended his state funeral held at parliament.
He composed more than 3,000 songs during his career and is thought to have had 84 children, although he only officially recognised 49.

10) VICTORIA FALLS COULD BE DISNEYFIED
Zimbabwe plans to build a "Disneyland in Africa" at the world famous Victoria Falls, the country's tourism minister told the BBC.
It "should be modelled along the size and the kind of vision that is on Disneyland, including hotels, entertainment parks, restaurants, conferencing facilities", he said

Celebrities / Lil Wayne Is Alive And Well, Victim Of Celebrity Death Hoax by edygistvilla(m): 12:09am On Dec 18, 2013
Lil Wayne lives! The 31-year-old artist found himself the victim of a death hoax on Monday, Dec. 16, when a video titled "RIP Lil Wayne, Rapper Found Dead" began making its way around Facebook and other social media sites. According to Spin, the video played off the fact that Lil Wayne is an epileptic, claiming the rapper died after suffering a seizure. And while the rapper is alive and well, it's hard to say if the same can be said for some people's computers. After all, the video requires users to share it on Facebook before watching it, which is a known template used to create viruses. Meanwhile, and proof that he is indeed still with us, Lil Wayne can be heard on Chris Brown's new song, "Loyal." The track is expected to be featured on Breezy's upcoming album, X. Speaking of Brown, a judge revoked the R&B star's probation on Monday, Dec. 16, in light of his October arrest for alleged assault in Washington, D.C. He was ordered to remain in the treatment facility where he's been living and continue to complete the 24 hours of community service per week that's required of him, take his prescription meds and abstain from marijuana (including the medical kind). The Grammy winner, who was sentenced to five years of probation in August 2009 after pleading guilty to assaulting Rihanna earlier that year, is about one-third of the way through a court-ordered three-month stay in rehab.

According to the report, the announcement declaring the school reopened was made on air by BCA Radio, Umuahia on November 28th.
However, there is not any reaction yet from ASUU, ABSU branch regarding this resumption, and Myschool.com.ng also gathered that there is no lecture or academic activities yet despite the resumption
Education / 10 Things You SHOULD Know About The FG Meeting With Vcs I by edygistvilla(m): 1:56am On Dec 01, 2013
The face-off between the Federal Government and members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities(ASUU) may have taken another twist as the former is making plans to railroad the striking lecturers back to the classrooms.
University lecturers had embarked on an indefinite strike in July after accusing the FG of reneging on their promise of, among other things, injecting funds into the education sector. The lecturers had given stringent conditions for their return to classes demanding a payment of the four-month salary arrears of its members from July and the release of N200 billion that President Goodluck Jonathan promised to inject into the university system within the next two weeks.
The FG had countered these demands by ordering the lecturers back to school by Wednesday, December 4, reportedly directing the Inspector General of Police to make adequate preparations to forestall any form of violence which may ensue as the directive is being obeyed by willing lecturers.
According to reports, the FG delegation had met on Friday with vice-chancellors of Federal Universities to fashion out a way of ensuring that its directive is followed by their respective institutions.
The meeting which reportedly had the Nigerian Universities Commission (NUC) boss, Julius Okojie in attendance deliberated on replacing the striking lecturers with new ones and opening a register in institutions so that members that resume work would indicate by signing and those who fail to do so may be shown the way out.
Read the 10 things we gleaned from the deliberations below:
- There was an emergency meeting on Friday convened by the Federal Government and held with all vice-chancellors of federal universities at the National Universities Commission building in Abuja. The Acting Minister of Education, Chief Nyesom Wike, and the Executive Secretary of the NUC, Prof Julius Okojie, were at the meeting.
- The FG has directed the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar, to deploy policemen to all federal universities in the country in its bid to ensure resumption of academic activities on or before December 4.
- To confirm this directive, the Police Public Relations Officer in Enugu, Ebere Amaraizu, said its men had been directed to man universities in the state to quell any protest that might result from the Federal Government’s order on lecturers to resume work on or before Wednesday.
- The Friday meeting which took place in Abuja began at 9am and lasted for two hours. Part of the meeting’s deliberations, also centred on how to recruit new lecturers to fill the space of ASUU members who might refuse to obey government’s directive. NUC boss, Julius Okojie was reportedly mandated to start the process of recruiting new lecturers by placing vacancy adverts in international journals and media.
- There are indications that vice-chancellors have been directed to call students back to campus by tomorrow in preparation for academic activities which should start early next week.
- The vice-chancellors were directed to open registers in their institutions where ASUU members that resume work would sign so that those who failed to resume could be shown the way out.
- Reportssay that the Federal Government was planning to adopt the Ghanaian method where lecturers were asked to re-apply for their jobs after a prolonged period of downing tools.
- It was revealed that Nigerian universities are currently in need of about 30,000 lecturers due to the shortage of lecturers in the university system.
- December 4 is a decisive day between the FG and striking university lecturers as the date had been set aside by ASUU to bury Prof. Festus Iyayi, a former President of the union who died in an accident on his way to a meeting in Kano. Iyayi had died on the Abuja-Lokoja road when the car his was travelling in collided with the convoy of the governor of Kogi, Idris Wada on Novermber.
Members of the Union had quickly made a decision to suspend its proposed NEC meeting indefinitely to honour the memory of the late professor.
- The University of Nigeria (UNN) chapter of ASUU yesterday said its members would not resume work until their demands are met. The UNN-ASUU also described the Minister of Education, Wike, as a “tout”.
“We have not heard from the President, so we cannot speak officially on the matter. It would be senseless to begin to react to a statement from Wike since he is a tout,” said Dr. Ifeanyi Abada, Chairman of UNN-ASUU.
Well, where do we go from here. Your guess is as good as ours. It is however, imperative that the two parties immediately find a way out of this impasse so as not to keeps students at home unnecessarily.
Education / World First Sex School Opens by edygistvilla(m): 1:17am On Nov 26, 2013
The world’s first séx school has
caused outrage in Austria after
teaching séxual positions and
caressing techniques in a ‘hands on’
manner.
In every class at every school there is
always one kid who never does his or
her homework. That is, until the
Austrian International Séx School in
Vienna opened its doors.
We can’t imagine they have any
problems in encouraging their pupils to
partake in some… extra curricular
activities.
Charging £1,400 per term the school
offers hand-on lessons in seduction –
and yes, hands-on means what you
think it does.
Students even live in a mixed séx
dormitory where they are advised to
help each other do their ‘assignments’.
The headmistress – Ylva-Maria
Thompson – is, perhaps unsurprisingly,
a pórn star and presenter of an erótic
TV show.
The 51-year-old said: ‘The emphasis is
on how to be a better lover. Séxual
positions, caressing techniques,
anatomical features. And we teach
people hands-on.’
However the school has had its critics –
TV adverts showing a couple having s*x
have already been banned, with many
claiming that the school is essentially
just selling séx.
Celebrities / Why Illuminati Is Fake by edygistvilla(m): 12:21am On Nov 26, 2013
There exists an icy wall between the reality most people believe and the truth. There are many people all around the world who believe in a massive conspiracy, one that has been passed down from generation to generation for the purpose of controlling humanity. The 13 bloodlines of the Illuminati gave the world a list of names, people to blame for those who have glimpsed through this wall of ice. Many have come in contact with it, and all leave with the clear and obvious truth that there is more to our reality than it seems. In the recent past, the icy wall has proven very clearly that it is a master of deception. It would have us believe the entire worlds currency are controlled by one family, the Rothschilds. The wall would like you to believe that a tiny country, formed not more than 70 years ago, is secretly pulling the strings of the largest and most powerful military machines the world has ever seen. Nothing could be farther from the truth. Zionists are not controlling the United States, or the British Crown. The Rothschild family, while certainly powerful, is not a sacred bloodline destined to reign. Take a step back, this is what the conspiracy theorists and truth seekers believe... to think that they are not victims of a grand delusion, a deception designed to place blame on a small faction of people is inane. The Illuminati in total, and the grand NWO conspiracy, are nothing more than the final layer of deception before the Apocalypse: the great delusionpromised in Revelation.
An apocalypse ( Ancient Greek : meaning 'un-covering'), translated literally from Greek, is a disclosure of knowledge, hidden from humanity in an era dominated by falsehood and misconception, i.e., a lifting of the veil or revelation.
The Illuminati are nothing but scapegoats, a fictitious movement based on a long dead secret society. The idea they stand forhowever, is very real. The difference, of course, between the two, is that what most people name the "Illuminati" is not a monolithic organization. It is not some grand conspiracy, made up of humans who have plotted in secret to deny the masses their liberties and their future. The icy wall that victims see is nothing more than an illusion, a monolithic front for a large group of loosely knit organizations who for a long time in our history had little to no interaction with each other. Organized crime, secret societies, religious groups, affluent families and secretive governmental organizations today embody what is seen as the Illuminati. Their dark secret, though, is not that they have all worked together in con cert for thousands of years in order to bring about the apocalypse, but rather that they had a real and constant contact with the being that has masqueraded as Godfor the same amount of time. These groups were separate and most believed they were working against each other for most of our history.. the factions of fascism, corruption, and communism were systematically used to infest and infiltrate the government of the United States of America. They used extortion, coercion, and infiltration in order to take over the enemy from within. This tactic is timeless, and it is the modus operandiof this alien influence. The greatest enemy, a force of liberty and freedom, has been destroyed not in open battle, but by changing its beliefs. A cancer has eaten away at the inner core of democracy, and now uses it as nothing more than a facade, the new opiate of the masses.
In recent time, these disparate groups have been made aware of each other, and made aware of the fact that the force they have been in contact with has infiltrated the highest level of international governance. Today, they most likely believe the same lie, that they will be the new masters of the planet, with the assistance of this nefarious force which has systematically used deceptionin order to seize control of the masses since the dawn of time. Their belief, of course, is driven by a mind controlled world view of no other option. In the end, they will be left with exactly what they see, a lost cause. What they most likely do not see is that they are being made an example of. That the international corporate imperialism will not be viewed by the masses as a natural result of greed, but rather as a systematic destructive force which has intentionally forsaken the planet by destroying its scarce resources and using them in order to make this world unlivablewithout theassistanceof an outside force, that may not be providing it.The global economy is being destroyed, as well as the global ecosystem, andall peoplewill be left with a single question

lizzyslaw: @ Poster, Ȋ̝̊̅ dn't know anything about that university in particular so Ȋ̝̊̅'ll advice u generally.

U will need to prepare in terms of clothes. As a rule law students conform to a dress code. Black and white. Black trousers and skirts, white shirts and black suits. Depending on the particular university, the suit is negotiable for example in Ambrose Alli university, u must wear your suit whether the sun shines or the harmattan freezes. Acc. to Prof Aibony of AAU " you have to sweat it out. It is the profession of ur choice so you hv to get used to it cos one day, u'll be buried in your suit with the wig and gown" In uniben on the other hand, u can afford to wear just ur black trouser or skirt with a white shirt. For a guy, u need a black tie and for d girls ur white blouse should not have frills and embroideries. In both universities, jewellries r expected to be moderate without being ostentatious. This dress code is universal subject to the wearing of suits as determined by the faculty.

Will come back to address another area soon!
thank you
