Please Tinubu should stop the allocation, maybe the very little support he has in the Niger Delta is not enough for him or the peace the oil workers are enjoying isn't relevant to him.

Foreign AffairsBiden Says ICC War Crimes Arrest Warrant 'outrageous' by Edygrin(op): 12:53pm On Nov 22, 2024
US President Joe Biden has called an International Criminal Court war crimes arrest warrant for the Israeli prime minister “outrageous”.

The ICC also issued an arrest warrant for Benjamin Netanyahu's now sacked defence minister Yoav Gallant, and a Hamas commander, Mohammed Deif, who Israel says was killed in July.

Judges said there were “reasonable grounds” to believe the three men bore "criminal responsibility" for crimes during the war between Israel and Hamas.

Europe and the US were split in their response to the warrant, with several European countries saying they respect ICC decisions. The British government said it respected the independence of the court.

"Whatever the ICC might imply, there is no equivalence - none - between Israel and Hamas," Biden said in a statement. "We will always stand with Israel against threats to its security."

Both Israel and Hamas reject the allegations made by the ICC.

In a statement on Thursday, Netanyahu said: "The antisemitic decision of the international court in The Hague is a modern Dreyfus trial, and it will end the same way."

He was referring to a high-profile case of antisemitism in France just over a century ago.

"The court in The Hague accuses us of a deliberate policy of starvation," the Israeli PM said.

"This when we have supplied Gaza with 700,000 tons of food to feed the people of Gaza. We issue millions of text messages, phone calls, leaflets to the citizens of Gaza to get them out of harm's way - while the Hamas terrorists do everything in their power to keep them in harm’s way, including shooting them, using them as human shields."

Netanyahu said Israel would "not recognise the validity" of the ICC's decision.

Just this week, the UN warned that Palestinians were "facing diminishing conditions for survival" in parts of northern Gaza under siege by Israeli forces because virtually no aid had been delivered in 40 days.

Gallant said the ICC placed "the state of Israel and the murderous leaders of Hamas in the same row and thus legitimises the murder of babies, the rape of women and the abduction of the elderly from their beds”.

Ehud Olmert, a former Israeli prime minister, told the BBC that while he was critical of Netanyahu's handling of the conflict with Hamas, he did not agree with the ICC's decision.

"Israel has not committed genocide or war crimes that deserve these charges against the prime minister and the minister of defence," Olmert told Radio 4's World Tonight programme.

Hamas made no mention of the Deif warrant but said the move against Netanyahu and Gallant constituted an "important historical precedent, and a correction to a long path of historical injustice against our people".

Palestinians in Gaza expressed hope Israeli leaders would now be brought to justice.

Israel denies the allegation that its forces are committing genocide in Gaza, which is the subject of a separate case before the International Court of Justice.

The impact of the warrants announced by the ICC will depend on whether the court's 124 member states - which do not include Israel or its ally, the US - decide to enforce them or not.

But officials from the EU, Britain, France, the Netherlands and Italy have all made statements standing by the Court.

EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said "the decision of the court has to be respected and implemented", while the Dutch foreign minister said "we will act on the arrest warrants".

Meanwhile Israel’s closest allies in the EU rejected the ICC's move.

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said he was going to invite Netanyahu to visit, "and in that invite I will guarantee him that if he comes, the ICC's ruling will have no effect in Hungary, and we will not follow its contents”.

The Czech prime minister said the court had made "an unfortunate decision" in equating "the elected representatives of a democratic state with the leaders of an Islamist terrorist organisation”.

South Africa, which has brought a case against Israel at the International Court of Justice accusing it of genocide, welcomed the decision, and urged "all state parties to act in accordance with their obligations in the Rome Statute".

South Africa failed to honour an ICC arrest warrant against the Sudanese leader Omar al-Bashir when he visited the country in June 2015.

The ICC prosecutor's case against Netanyahu, Gallant and Deif stems from 7 October 2023, when Hamas gunmen attacked Israel, killing about 1,200 people and taking 251 others back to Gaza as hostages.

Israel responded by launching a military campaign to eliminate Hamas, during which at least 44,000 people have been killed in Gaza, according to the territory's Hamas-run health ministry.

For Deif, an ICC pre-trial chamber found reasonable grounds to believe he was "responsible for the crimes against humanity of murder; extermination; torture; and rape and other form of sexual violence; as well as the war crimes of murder, cruel treatment, torture; taking hostages; outrages upon personal dignity; and rape and other form of sexual violence".

It also said there were reasonable grounds to believe the crimes against humanity were "part of a widespread and systematic attack directed by Hamas and other armed groups against the civilian population of Israel".

For Netanyahu and Gallant, who was replaced as defence minister earlier this month, the chamber found reasonable grounds to believe that they "each bear criminal responsibility for the following crimes as co-perpetrators for committing the acts jointly with others: the war crime of starvation as a method of warfare; and the crimes against humanity of murder, persecution, and other inhumane acts".

It also found reasonable grounds to believe that "each bear criminal responsibility as civilian superiors for the war crime of intentionally directing an attack against the civilian population".

PoliticsCrisis Rocks Edo APC Over Commissioner-nominees’ List by Edygrin(op): 12:35pm On Nov 22, 2024
Members of the Esan West Local Government chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, are divided over the list of commissioner-nominees.

DAILY POST reports that in a protest letter dated November 21, 2024, addressed to the State Governor, Monday Okpebholo through the Secretary to the State Government, Barrister Musa Umar Ikhilor, the petitioners opined that the list submitted to the governor do not reflect the five kingdoms that make up the local government.

The petition titled, “Re: Nomination of five names from Esan West Local Government” was written by the party’s leaders from the ten wards in the locality.

They listed the five kingdoms as Ekpoma, Idoa, Ogwa, Ujogba, and Egoro.

They alleged that the nomination was done by Mr. Thomas Okosun, the former Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly and one-time State chairman of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), and Mr. David Imuse, the former state chairman of APC.

The petitioners also alleged that the nomination was done without consulting the leadership of the party in the local government as done in other Local Government Areas in the state.

The signatories to the petition are Chief Edwin Ogieriakhi, Chief Saturday Ogbeide, Hon. Abu Momodu, Mr. Visly Udaze, Chief Festus Ozoba, Mr. Wesley Oran, Mr. Sam Akhigbe, Chief Ikpea Ojie, Joe Aise Aisdion and Hon. Monday Ehighawa.

They also alleged that two of the nominees included a female, simply identified as Mrs Ogbidi, a wife to chairman of the party, while the other nominee, Pastor Odigie is a pastor in Thomas Okosun’s Church.

While noting that the selection of the nominees does not reflect the spread in the Local Government, they opined that it was contrary to the usual practice when one person was being nominated from each of the kingdoms.

According to the petitioners, “we the concerned leaders of Esan West Local Government wish to register our protest against the list of commissioner nominees from Esan West Local Government.

"Firstly, the nomination was done by Mr. Thomas Okosun and Mr. Imuse without consulting the leadership of the Local Government as it was done in other Local Governments.

“Secondly, the list is made up of his relations and friends. For example, the female in the list is Mrs. Ogbidi the party chairman’s wife and Mr. Governor’s greatest critic, while Pastor Odigie is Thomas Okosun’s church pastor.

"Also, the selection did not reflect the spread in the Local Government as Esan West is made up of 5 kingdoms namely, Ekpoma, Idoa, Ogwa, Ujogba, and Egoro.

“Our usual practice is to select one nominee from each of the kingdoms but in this case, all the nominees are from Ekpoma kingdom.”

The party leaders, who posited that the list was capable of bringing division within the party in the locality, called on Governor Okpebholo to set aside the list for the sake of justice.

PoliticsRivers: Court Stops Wike-backed APC From Holding Congress by Edygrin(op): 12:25pm On Nov 22, 2024
A Rivers State High Court sitting in Port Harcourt has issued an ex parts order restraining the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, from conducting any elective congresses for the Rivers State APC without including the claimants/applicants.

This restriction applies to local government and state executive committees or any congresses whatsoever, pending the determination of the substantive suit.

The presiding judge, Justice G.V. Obomanu, also issued an interim injunction, specifically barring the defendants from proceeding with the scheduled congresses on November 23 and 30, 2024, or any other date.

The injunction prevents any further steps towards the congresses or recognizing any winner purportedly elected in the ward congresses held on November 16, 2024, until the motion on notice is heard and determined.

The suit was filed by Okwu Joebrown-Ndike, Peace Oganu, and Samuel Uchegbule, who represent APC members aspiring for various positions in the congresses.

They alleged that despite paying for nomination forms, they were denied access to the forms, thus prompting the legal action.

Justice Obomanu adjourned the case to December 3, 2024, for the hearing of the motion on notice.

Foreign AffairsTrump Picks Pam Bondi For Attorney General After Gaetz Dropped Out by Edygrin(op): 5:49am On Nov 22, 2024
Hours after his first pick to run the nation’s top law enforcement agency dropped out, President-elect Donald Trump named former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi as his new choice to run the Justice Department.

Trump made the announcement in a post on social media Thursday evening – the same day that former Rep. Matt Gaetz, whom the president-elect had selected for the role last week, withdrew from consideration.

"For too long, the partisan Department of Justice has been weaponized against me and other Republicans - Not anymore,” Trump said in a post on his Truth Social platform. “Pam will refocus the DOJ to its intended purpose of fighting Crime, and Making America Safe Again. I have known Pam for many years — She is smart and tough, and is an AMERICA FIRST Fighter, who will do a terrific job as Attorney General!”

Bondi had been under consideration for the role before Trump tapped the former congressman, a person with knowledge of the deliberations told CNN, and some considered Bondi to be one of the president-elect’s favorite lawyers.

Gaetz’s selection had quickly faced trouble as his prospects for Senate approval narrowed amid growing pressure from lawmakers, including some in his own party, for the release of a House Ethics Committee investigative report into him.

The report, which has not yet been made public by the committee, details the panel’s investigation into allegations of sexual misconduct and other alleged crimes by Gaetz. The Florida Republican has vehemently denied the allegations investigated by the committee and the Justice Department, including the claim that he had sex with a woman in 2017 when she was a minor. He has not been charged with a crime.

Ultimately, Trump called Gaetz Thursday and said that he did not have the votes in the Senate to win confirmation, CNN reported, and the former congressman subsequently said on social media that he would be declining the nomination. He applauded Trump’s latest pick as “a stellar selection.”

Bondi’s name began being circulated almost immediately after Gaetz removed his name from consideration for the role, with one source familiar with conversations saying they began hearing Trump was leaning toward announcing her selection early Thursday afternoon.

While Trump has always like Bondi, she also has close ties with others in his orbit, including his incoming chief of staff Susie Wiles and his legal counsel Boris Epshteyn.

Trump met in person with Bondi at Mar-a-Lago before officially offering her the job, a source familiar told CNN. The president-elect informed her of the selection Thursday evening at the resort, two sources familiar with the discussion told CNN.

Trump allies breathe sigh of relief
Bondi’s selection will be subject to Senate approval once she is formally nominated, but allies of the president-elect swiftly expressed relief at the pick.

As of Thursday evening, there was a broad feeling among those working on the president-elect’s transition that Bondi would have a much easier confirmation process than Gaetz, given her background as the attorney general of Florida and her relationships with those on Capitol Hill.

One person close to Trump called Bondi “a solid choice” and said they “feel much better about her chances.”

Trump first considered Bondi for a post in his administration in 2018 after firing then-Attorney General Jeff Sessions, CNN has reported. Trump said at the time that he’d “love to have her in the administration.”

But there were concerns over whether Bondi would be able to secure confirmation in the Senate because of a controversial $25,000 contribution that Trump’s foundation gave to Bondi’s political action committee during her 2014 reelection bid.

Democratic lawmakers accused Bondi of declining to pursue an investigation into Trump University fraud allegations after receiving the donation. A Florida ethics panel cleared Bondi of wrongdoing in the matter.

Bondi stayed in Trump’s orbit, working in the White House as a legal advisor and defending the president-elect during his first Senate impeachment trial. She is also listed as the chair for the Center for Litigation at the pro-Trump think tank America First Policy Institute, where she has helped lead some of their work against the so-called “weaponization” of the Justice Department.

Legal history
Bondi practiced law in Florida for over a decade — first as a prosecutor in Tampa and then for eight years as the state attorney general — where she had a reputation for being a media savvy and effective litigator.

Elected as Florida’s top prosecutor in the conservative tea party wave, she grew increasingly partisan during her two terms in office, making regular appearances on Fox News and then becoming a top Florida surrogate for Trump during his 2016 campaign.

Bondi’s history in court at times touched hot-button issues, repeatedly landing her in the news. She led a failed effort to overturn Obamacare in 2012, and shortly after the deadly shooting at Pulse nightclub in 2016, Bondi defended herself in an interview with CNN’s Anderson Cooper for fighting to preserve Florida’s ban on gay marriage.

“I talked to a lot of gay and lesbian people here who are not fans of yours and who thought you were being a hypocrite,” Cooper said during the interview of Bondi’s assertions in the aftermath of the shooting that she was advocating for the LGBTQ community. “You said in court that gay people, simply by fighting for marriage equality, were trying to do harm to the people of Florida.”

Bondi said she was simply upholding the Florida Constitution, and that the ban is “not a law.”

“That was voted into the state constitution by the voters of Florida,” Bondi said. “That’s what I was defending. … I never said I don’t like gay people.”

After leaving the Florida attorney general’s office, Bondi joined Ballard Partners, a lobbying firm with deep ties to Trump and Wiles. There, she represented the country of Qatar from 2019 to 2020, according to documents submitted to the federal government by the firm under the Foreign Agents Registration Act.

Most recently, Bondi joined a group of pro-Trump lawyers who filed an amicus brief to a federal appeals court in the special counsel’s classified documents case against Trump. The brief was in support of Trump’s claim that special counsel Jack Smith was unlawfully appointed – a claim that led to Judge Aileen Cannon dismissing all charges against the president-elect earlier this year.

Bondi has also reportedly been in the hotseat as the subject of a legal case: a custody battle with a Louisiana family over their St. Bernard, Master Tank, who went missing after Hurricane Katrina. The family told The Tampa Bay Times that Bondi stole the dog, while Bondi accused the family of neglect.

That case was settled before trial and Master Tank returned to his family.

PoliticsMatt Gaetz Withdraws As Trump's Nominee For Attorney General by Edygrin(op): 7:58pm On Nov 21, 2024
Former Florida Congressman Matt Gaetz has withdrawn his name from consideration to become attorney general after days of debate over whether to release a congressional report on sexual misconduct allegations against him.

On X, formerly Twitter, the 42-year-old said that the controversy over his potential nomination "was unfairly becoming a distraction" to the work of the incoming Trump administration.

The report included the findings of a probe sparked by allegations of sexual misconduct and illicit drug use.

Gaetz has denied the claims but said that he hoped to avoid a "needlessly protracted Washington scuffle."

The withdrawal of Gaetz - who Donald Trump selected to be the top US law enforcement officer - represents a setback for the president-elect.

On his own Truth Social social media platform, the former and soon-to-be president said he appreciated Gaetz’s effort to become attorney general.

“He was doing very well, but at the same time, did not want to be a distraction for the administration, for which he has much respect,” Trump added.

In his post on X, formerly Twitter, Gaetz said that Trump's justice department "must be in place and ready" on the first day of his administration in January.

"I remain fully committed to see that Donald J Trump is the most successful president in history," he wrote.

"I will forever be honoured that President Trump nominated me to lead the Department of Justice and I'm certain he will save America," Gaetz added.

The shadow cast by the long-running investigation by a congressional ethics panel into a number of claims involving drugs, bribes and sex meant that Gaetz was likely to face an uphill battle when it came time to be confirmed by the US Senate.

Lawmakers - including some fellow Senate Republicans - had expressed concern about his nomination, reportedly prompting a significant closed-door effort by him and Trump to secure the necessary support.

The day before his withdrawal, the House Ethics Committee - which compiled the report - met behind closed doors to debate whether or not it should release the report into Gaetz.

The committee's chair, Democrat Susan Wild, said that the group had not been able to come to an agreement and was evenly divided, 5-5, on party lines.

Gaetz resigned from his House seat last week after Trump nominated him to become attorney general.

It is unclear whom Trump will nominate in his place.

The allegations stem, in part, from a woman's claims that she attended a 2017 party with him and witnessed the then-congressman having sex with a minor.

The woman's lawyer later said that the woman, as well as another witness, were paid by Gaetz to have sex with him.

A separate three-year federal sex trafficking investigation into Gaetz ended with no charges brought against him.

What's next for Matt Gaetz?

It is unclear what will come next for Gaetz, who provided no detail on his future plans in his announcement.

President-Elect Trump said only that he has a "wonderful future" and will do "great things".

Experts have suggested that it unlikely that Gaetz would try to return to the House - where he was re-elected to his seat in the November election - as it would mean that the Ethics Committee report could be made public.

Senior Republicans, including House Speaker Mike Johnson, have used his resignation as justification to avoid publishing the committee's findings.

But he could return to the Capitol in the upper chamber.

Florida's Governor, Ron DeSantis, could appoint him to a vacant seat that is likely to be left by Senator Marco Rubio, whom Trump has nominated as his secretary of state.

Instead of them using the donated funds to better the lives of their people they end up buying guns for illiterates who end up killing the relatives of those that donated the money and some people will be online supporting them.
