eneyoduke: As you begin the new year don't just concentrate on prophecies, fasting and declarations...
Beware of programs where they teach you only how to claim cars, claim house, claim this, claim that; be interested in programs where they teach you how to make money to pay for cars and houses.
"I claim my house", "I claim my car"; stop that rubbish! There is no currency call "claim". If you want a car learn how to make money, work hard and pay for it in known currencies like naira and dollars.
Every year Christian youths gather for many programs without corresponding results in innovation, invention and expertise. The problem is only "Men of God" are invited to speak to them. They should start inviting Men of Business, Men of War, Men of Politics, Men of Inventions, Men of Law... to speak to them. I mean real men and women who have succeeded in these areas, not just people who claim the Lord has revealed how to succeed in these areas to them.
I’m still saying Happy New year to you all. You are 100% correct..... |

eazzzy1: I was the only one who spent same night the money came, and I was the only one who spent on what she considered frivolity. If I had bought a wrist watch or a toy, she wouldn’t have gotten that upset. OK God bless your mum and it's good you learnt the importance of saving... I actually made my first two million naira from saving. You are doing well. |
Family › Re: How My Mother’s Advice Made Me Rich by eezeribe(m): 3:43pm On Jan 01, 2021 |
eazzzy1: When I was growing up in the 90’s, my dad decided he would put his kids on a monthly allowance. This was in 1999, my allowance was 500 naira.
The first time we got the ‘alert’ was a Saturday evening, I quickly took out #50 for flexing, I headed to the aboki at the juncture to buy suya.
Now in 1999 suya price started at #10 for a sizeable portion, I bought x 5 of a sizeable portion. I went home anticipating how I would devour my suya before going to bed.
On getting home my mum asked ‘what did you buy’? I pulled the suya out of the plastic bag and she looked at me like I murdered two people. She would take me back to the aboki to question him on why he would sell #50 suya to an 8 year old. Of course sliced suya could not be returned so we took it back home. She seized the suya, gave me the hottest abaras I ever received. I slept after crying.
The next morning she gave me the talk. Our conversation went this;
Mum: how much is your allowance?
Me: #500
Mum:How much did you spend last night?
Me: #50.
Mum: If you spend #50 every night how long will your allowance last?
Me: Ten days
Mum: If your dad spent his salary in ten days where will your allowance, pocket money and school fees come from?
Me: dumbfounded
She gave me back my now cold suya. Collected the remaining of my allowance, handed 100 naira to me for the rest of the month.
The next allowance, I took out #100 and handed #400 over to her and that would continue till I finished primary school. At my graduation my mum bought a BMX bicycle and a white trainers from my savings. I became the first child in my family to own an asset paid for from pocket.
When I got into secondary school, saving was already an habit. I remember my siblings coming to collect money for fuel and food from me, ‘we need fuel borrow us 1k daddy will refund you when he comes’. Some times my dad would owe me to the tune of 10,000 naira then refund me in lump sum.
When I finished serving at age 21, I had over #700,000 in my bank account all from savings. No income asides NYSC & PPA allawee.
I’m 29 now, I have saved about 90% of my salary since 2015, then using the lump sum for something good. When I bought my house in 2018 I had 46% in down payment, as against the customary 5%. I have never bought a car with bank financing. All these because I don’t spend on the things I don’t need.
That advice made a huge impact in my life.
Cultivate the habit of saving this new year. The flexing, the expensive vacations, hair cuts, fancy designers you pass on today will make a difference in your life in the long run.
Happy New year my peoples. Why didn't your mum help your other siblings in saving their monthly stipends.... Or was she partial in her relationship with her other kids? |

Family › Re: America Is Not As Many People Think by eezeribe(m): 9:21pm On Nov 08, 2020 |
faoogoke: By a brother in diaspora. If you don't know how you are blessed, you will think your father's farm is worse than your friend father's farm. Do not be deceived, Nigeria is not the best country but it is a good one. $1 is #500 and so what? Let me elucidate from my little experience. Can anyone in USA use $1 for breakfast? No. But in Nigeria #500 will feed you for breakfast and lunch. Majority of people's monthly house rent (self contained apartment) in the USA is $1,000 and above, and that is your own 2 year's rent.
Have you ever paid for insurance before, insurance in US is $280 and that is almost #100,000 monthly.
When last did you pay monthly phone bills? I pay almost #40,000 monthly and if I don't, they are going to block my SIM. Your own MTN can be there for months without recharge.
When last did you work on Saturday and Sunday? This I do compulsorily and on regular basis.
Don't get me wrong, the USA is better than Nigeria, depending on which angle you are viewing it. Do you want to hear the truth? Many people in Nigeria live a more fulfilling life compared to their counterparts abroad. Forget about all the packaging on social media and give credit to the good life you are living.
Do you know why they always come to Nigeria and rush back quickly? Because bills are counting and elongated freedom will put their lives into jeopardy. If you, as a black, attempt to emulate the whites, they will kneel on your neck. Apart from Congo, no citizens in the entire universe enjoy life to the fullest than Nigerians.
You are abundantly blessed but you don't know until you get visa and relocate to abroad, that is when you will know that your 8hrs job in Nigeria with free weekend is awoof. With 8hrs job abroad, you can only pay bills, you will need another 6 to 8 hours to save for the future and plan your life.
The truth is that the grass is green everywhere, it's lack of vision by our politicians and the skewed religious practices (which placed emphasis on miracles) that ascended Nigeria onto a myopic tentacle of complete inertia. I have always known this.. Thanks for the write up.. It's the best post ever on nairaland. |

airsaylongcom: Out of curiosity, would a ponzi seek registration with the country's financial regulator? I don't know of any Nigerian ponzi that has applied for a license with the financial regulators. I stand to be corrected on this. They visited unannounced for spot checks this week. Demanded for very restricted data and were allowed unfettered access I really appreciate this. Thank you |
