PoliticsOyo: Makinde May Inaugurate Cabinet Next Week by efefemi(op): 12:27pm On Aug 08, 2019
Efefemisblog.com.ng
Oyo State governor, Seyi Makinde, has said he may formally inaugurate his much-awaited cabinet next week to further deepen governance in the state.

He disclosed this on Wednesday when he received on courtesy call officials of Nigerian British Chambers of Commerce in his office, Agodi, Ibadan.

The visitors, who commended Makinde for having females in his cabinet, including Secretary to the State Government, Mrs. Olubamiwo Adeosun, and Head of Service, Alhaja Ololade Agboola, the team came to introduce the chambers to the Makinde and the state government with a view to building bilateral business relationships and opportunities.

The leader of the delegation, Mr Kayode Falowo, said the chamber with its over 30 corporate members promotes trade and investment between Nigeria and the United Kingdom, as well as creation of trade opportunities for individuals, organisations and partners.

Makinde, in his response, expressed the optimism as the state House of Assembly will begin screening for the 14 commissioner-nominees tomorrow, that the governor forwarded their names to the parliament about two weeks ago. It is expected that the screening would be completed this week or early next week.

According to the governor, “We are working hard to put the cabinet in place and I am sure that hopefully the state House of Assembly should complete their screening process for the commissioner-nominees and I am sure that by next when the cabinet is put in place, the appropriate individuals will carry this forward.

“I will like to briefly add that the ladies that you have seen here (the SSG and HoS), did not get to those positions because they are females but because they are well qualified and they actually have shown that they are worth the salt among the CVs (curriculum vitae) that we considered.

So, I always use them to actually let our parents know that when you send our daughters to school, the glass ceiling is being broken and I won’t be surprised that Oyo State may provide the first female governor in Nigeria.”

Makinde stated further that “Oyo state is opened for business. I came from the private sector and our first female Secretary to the State Government (SSG) also wrapped up her career in Shell just to come and serve the state. So, we have a clear understanding of what trade and investment is all about.

“The mentality for us is that, this is a public sector space but we want to drive it with a private sector mentality. Yes, it is just our two months here but we have learnt a lot. We know that we have been able to deliver at the speed of trust, just the way we are able to build the trust between the government and the workers and then between the government and the people of the state.

“We have had interactions with the Ibadan Chambers of Commerce as well and we are also looking at opening up opportunities and those ones we can also tap into.

“You mentioned trade mission. Well, I actually will be looking forward to taking the advantage of mutually beneficially business relationship that the chambers can foster, especially with the state and the chambers of commerce.”

@chikanels tweeted:

Femi walked into the office for his job interview, After a close look, the employer started laughing and shaking his head. Femi was confused,

“Hope I didn’t do anything wrong Sir.”

Him: How can you insult someone on twitter and still come to him for employment?

He added:

So my people, it’s not “JUST TWITTER”, people you troll here actually exist,

They are actually humans, Use Social Media for better things like building quality connections and making money, If you need help with the latter, you can send a DM.

PoliticsNigerian Government Warns South Africa Of Killing Nigerians by efefemi(op): 10:55am On Aug 08, 2019
Efefemisblog.com.ng

The federal government has warned that the incessant and unjustifiable killing of Nigerians in South Africa will no longer be tolerated “as Nigerians are already running out of patience with the increasing scourge.”

The Chief Executive Officer of Nigerians in the Diaspora Commission, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, who handed down the warning in Abuja yesterday, stated that the xenophobic attacks had reached the tipping point.

Addressing journalists on the increasing attacks against Nigerians in the former apartheid enclave, Dabiri-Erewa stated, “we are reaching a tipping point where one more death of a Nigerian in South Africa will be unbearable to Nigerians. Nigerians are all angry that any more killing of any Nigerian in South Africa will not be tolerated.”

She disclosed that 118 Nigerians had been killed as of 2016 in South Africa, adding that between 2016 till date, an additional 88 Nigerians had been killed in the country.

She called for a thorough investigation into the killings to bring the perpetrators to book.

The NIDCOM boss, however, lamented that some Nigerians have contributed to the attacks as some of the recent killings had been attributed to Nigerians killing their compatriots.

She also called for more investigation into the killing of the deputy Director General of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria, Mrs. Elizabeth Ndubuisi-Chukwu.

“I want to assure you that high-level diplomatic efforts between the Nigerian government and the government of South Africa are ongoing to resolve the matter; we can still make diplomacy work,” she said.
Narrating his ordeal in the hands of South African police officers, a former Big Brother Naija reality show housemate, Tayo Faniran, decried his bitter experience in the country.

He attributed xenophobic attacks in the country to lack of information, noting that “many of the South Africans feel they are entitled to hate Nigerians, but with adequate support and cooperation, xenophobia can be eradicated.”

Commenting on the situation, President of the National Association of Nigerian Students, Danielson Akpan, said Nigerian students would not sit idly by and watch the dastardly acts of violence continue.

He said, “we have seen the helplessness of the South African government in reining in their citizens and wish to condemn in unambiguous terms the continued pampering of those involved.

“Every nation has her own internal crisis hence no citizen of other nation should be sacrificed for criminal activities of South Africans or any other.

“Since the economic prosperity of Nigerians can no longer be tolerated and their lives secured in South Africa, there’s no need also to condone the continued flourishing of South African businesses and her citizens in Nigeria.

“We, therefore, wish to officially ask all South African-owned businesses in Nigeria to relocate in the next seven days.”
But Abike-Dabiri prevailed on the student leader to shelve the idea, arguing that diplomacy could still provide the solution to the problem, adding that there was no point in taking actions that could escalate the problem.

PoliticsBuhari Speaks On Fresh threat To National Security by efefemi(op): 9:25am On Aug 03, 2019
Efefemisblog.com.ng

President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday maintained that his administration was ever committed to ensure security and peace in Nigeria.

He stated this at the graduation ceremony of the National Defence College (NDC) Course 27, in Abuja, adding that his government was poised to resolve all humanitarian challenges facing the country.

The President at the ceremony also commended the armed forces for the supposed progress made in terrorism and insurgency fight in the North East part of the country.

He said that Boko Haram has lost its insurgency campaign and that the Islamic terrorist group was now splintered and metamorphosed into a new form of terrorist threat.

Noting that Nigeria still struggles with some existential and fundamental challenges, he said:

“Armed banditry and vandalism, kidnapping, pastoralist/farmers conflicts, cultism and political violence have become the new threats.

“Other crimes such as proliferation of Small Arms and Light Weapons, drug trafficking, drug and substance abuse and communal conflict, all add up to the security mix.

“Furthermore, the state of education, the youth bulge, unemployment, socio-political and ethno-religious divisions, fake news and hate speeches all help to quicken and compound the security challenges.

“Our government is poised to promote national security and development; we remain committed to promoting a vision of a secure, safe, just, peaceful, prosperous and strong nation.

“Indeed, we shall be employing all elements of our national and human resources to ensure security, a just society, peaceful co-existence, national unity, prosperity and sustainable development, while promoting our good standing abroad.”

The President went further to say that the country was at a critical crossroad at inception of his administration in 2015, a period according to him, the Boko Haram insurgency was at the height of its infamy and virtually held Nigeria hostage.

Buhari’s avowed commitment on security and ensuring a peaceful Nigeria; is coming amid the worsening insecurity situation in the country.

Issues of insecurity, are currently threatening not only the peace, but also the unity of the country.

CrimeTransporter Killed On Police Shootout by efefemi(op): 8:34am On Aug 03, 2019
Efefemisblog.com.ng

Operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) have allegedly killed an Ogun-based transporter, Agbomofuegbe Odion, while hunting for suspected kidnappers in Ijebu-Ode area of the State.

The father of three was returning from a trip to Benin, Edo State, where he had delivered a consignment of frozen turkey when the tragic incident occurred on Thursday.

He was returning in company with his partners when they were intercepted by some vigilance men at Ijebu Ode end of the Benin- Ore highway.

According to witnesses, the vigilance men were carrying out a stop and search on vehicles on the road after some pastors of the Redeemed Christina Church of God (RCCG) were abducted by suspected kidnappers.

It was while the search for the victims was ongoing that the late Odion’s vehicle ran into some local vigilance men who allegedly manhandled him and others in the vehicle.

Witnesses said Odion was shot by policemen who rushed to the scene while the late transporter was fleeing.

A witness said: ‘’ We were returning from Benin, when on getting to a place immediately after J4 axis of the Benin-Ore highway the vigilance men who were in mufti stopped us and order us out of the vehicle.

‘’They were armed with cutlass and jarred bottles. They started manhandling us unjustly. They beat us mercilessly even when we asked them to tell us what we had done. It was when the brutality became unbearable that Odion fled and the next thing I heard were gunshots from SARS operatives, which killed Odion on the spot.

‘’One of the policemen ordered another officer to shoot our legs and I shouted that we only used our vehicle to convey frozen turkey to Benin. When the the Divisional Police Officer of Ogbere Division visited the scene of the incident,I described to him two of the officers attached to the squad that fired the shots that killed Odion.

‘’The DPO later asked that Odion’s body be taken to the mortuary, while our vehicle was moved to their station. As at the time I was invited to the police station; the DPO and his men were still inside the nearby bush where Odion fell down in a pool of his blood after he was shot by the policemen.’’

However, Ogun police spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) on Friday said the late transporter was hit by bullets when policemen engaged suspected kidnappers who abducted five pastors of the Redeemed Christian Church of God(RCCG) along the highway.

‘’ There was a case of abduction of five pastors of RCCG who were coming to Lagos from Abia State. The man was hit by bullets when policemen engaged the kidnappers in a shootout. Even the commissioner of police and operatives are still combing the forest to free those abducted from the kidnappers.

CrimeHerbalist Arrested For Raping And Impregnating Daughter by efefemi(op): 10:10am On Aug 02, 2019
Efefemisblog.com.ng

The magistrate court in Evbuoriaria, Benin City, Thursday sentenced 52 years-old herbalist; Jacob Alonge, a native of Ososo in Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of Edo State for 21 years for raping and impregnating his 17 years-old daughter, Gift Alonge, now late.

He was sentenced on three-count charge of unlawful possession of the victims’ pubic hair; unlawfully and indecently having canal knowledge of his biological daughter and repeated sexual assault and impregnating her.

Unfortunately, the victim, Gift, who was five months pregnant and four others who were helping to prosecute the court case died in a ghastly motor accident on January 16 this year when they were travelling to Benin for the judgment.

Other victims in the accident were Miss Rhoda Braimoh, a staff of a non-governmental organisation, Miss Promise Ezekiel, BraveHeart Initiative for Youth and Women (BHI), which has been helping to prosecute the case; the victim’s maternal uncle, Mr. Ukere Adagbogu and the Paul Opashi, driver of the vehicle they were going with.

Earlier, the convict recanted his plea of guilty to not guilty and the case started afresh.

In her ruling yesterday, the Magistrate; Mrs D.I Adamaigbo, sentenced Jacob Alonge to five years, two years and 14 years respectively on the three count charges and they are to run consecutively.

She said: “He (convict), consecutively had sex with her who is his own daughter and got her pregnant and thereby subjected her to shame and emotional stress. May her soul rest in peace! To serve as deterrent to others, and would-be offenders, we are of the opinion that the defendant should not have a space in a decent society.” The magistrate added that “the statement of the victim and the evidence of the PW1 confirmed what the victim said that she was five months pregnant and that she was demoralised, emotionally distressed is sufficient corroboration that the victim was indeed sexually assaulted.

“It has been established beyond reasonable doubt that the accused had canal knowledge of the victim as she said in her statement thus: ‘My father by name Jacob Alonge used to wake me up at night and said I should follow him for prayers; when we reach inside the bush, he will force me and have sexual intercourse with me’.

“Then in the second statement which she made at the state police headquarters, she stated and I quote: ‘last year which is 2017, my father, by name, Joseph Alonge, has been having sex with me, he threatened me not to tell anybody and if I do, he will kill me.’”

“She stated further in the same statement that and I quote : ‘One night, he called me and put me on top of a stone and used razor blade to shave my private body and threatened me not to tell anybody’.

This statement was corroborated by the statement of the police in evidence. “The convict admitted in his statement and the law is that evidence admitted need no further proof, the defence that he was lured into the crime by his own daughter is an afterthought. We, therefore, find him guilty of each of the counts” Reacting to the judgment, the Executive Director, BraveHeart Initiative for Youth and Women (BHI), Priscillia Usiobaifo, said: “We have seen how resilience can prove a worthwhile.

I am very happy that there is no option of fine because we have had several cases that we won and they will give options of fine. This very judgment has encouraged us and those that died did not die in vain.

PoliticsPresident Muhammad Buhari Has No Certificate Listed On His CV by efefemi(op): 5:42pm On Jul 30, 2019
Efefemisblog.com.ng

President Muhammadu Buhari’s Chief of Staff, Abba Kyari, admitted before the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal in Abuja on Tuesday that no certificate was listed on the President’s curriculum vitae and that none was among the documents obtained from Cambridge University earlier tendered as exhibits.

Kyari, who testified as the President’s third defence witness, also admitted obtaining the Cambridge documents personally on July 18, 2019.

The Peoples Democratic Party and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, had filed the petition before the tribunal to challenge the victory of President Buhari and his All Progressives Congress in the February 23, 2019 poll.

Part of the grounds of the petition was that Buhari did not possess the academic qualification necessary to contest the poll.

Under a cross examination by the petitioners’ lawyer, Kyari said he was 67 years old and that he had known Buhari for nearly 40 years.

Kyari also said he signed for and collected the Cambridge documents for the assessment by Cambridge.

He did not say if he traveled to London to obtain the documents; but he confirmed that none of the documents contained a certificate.

He confirmed that the Cambridge documents were “assessments.”

He also confirmed that the curriculum vitae signed by Buhari did not have any certificate listed, apart from the list of schools attended by the President.

He also admitted that the Diploma in Strategic Study which he claimed Buhari possessed was not listed in the President’s CV.

Under cross-examination by APC’s lawyer, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), Kyari, however maintained that Atiku was a Cameroonian by being born in Jadda in 1946, as of the time of which the part of Adamawa State was still a part of Norther Cameroon.

He also identified Buhari in a picture of those who were said to be the President’s classmates and teachers while graduating as a Class 6 pupil in 1961.

PoliticsInsecurity: Monarch Calls For Caution, Advises Against Self-help by efefemi(op): 10:19am On Jul 27, 2019
Efefemisblog.com.ng

The Oluwo of Iwo, Oba AbdulRasheed Akanbi has cautioned the Yoruba against calls for war in face of the current insecurity in the Southwest, saying the lesson he had learnt during the protracted Liberian War is still fresh in his memory.

In a statement, reacting to the widely publicized letter which the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi sent to President Muhammadu Buhari, Oba Akanbi said he found himself in the thick of the war and fought on the side of Charles Taylor’s troop.

While the Oluwo acknowledged the concern which Oba Adeyemi expressed in his letter to President Buhari, he however said self-help or self-defence is not the solution to the insecurity, stressing that no zone of the nation is exempted from the ongoing menace.

Oba Akanbi stated that war is easy to invite but difficult to chase away. During war, he maintained, there is no law, except law of self-preservation which reduces social status to nothing as everybody would be struggling to remain alive.

“Parents would run for safety abandoning their children and property. Women and female children would be subjected to rape before their husbands and fathers with the fathers watching helplessly.

I know what I passed through during Liberian War fighting on the side of Charles taylor. That is more reason I would not subscribe to any call which encourages taking up arm to settle the insecurity problem which the entire country is currently facing.

“I am not undermining the intention of the Alaafin but as a war veteran, I am in the best position to offer appropriate advice.

If I keep quiet over it and something untoward happens tomorrow, I would be irresponsible traditional ruler.

I am repeating it that the cost of war is usually heavier than the cost of settlement,” he said.

The Oluwo insisted that Yoruba and Fulani had enjoyed a good relationship for over 100 years, charging President Buhari to be more pro-active in his nation-building efforts.

He affirmed that Nigeria is a blessed country which should not be allowed to go the way of the former Soviet Union.

CrimeNigerian Military Wrongly Invades A Community In Imo State, Beats Up Citizens by efefemi(op):
Efefemisblog.com.ng

I wish to draw your attention to an ugly scenario playing out in my community,Eziorsu Autonomous community in Oguta LGA of Imo state. For quite some time now Soldiers stationed at the Eziorsu water front have turned our community into another Sambisa forest where they hunt for defenseless citizens, not Terrorists, to brutalize, molest, maim and punish based on flimsy, unsubstantiated excuses and allegations. On Monday, the 22nd of July,2019 ,these Soldiers who were supposed to protect and defend Nigerian citizens and who are paid from the petro- naira drilled from Eziorsu community, invaded the Sleepy peaceful community at about 8:45 pm,shooting sporadically, breaking into homes and stores, brutalizing and molesting innocent defenseless citizens. Women, Children,Elderly men were given a dose of military beating With horse Whip, sticks ,iron and gun butt. People’s homes and stores were violently broken into with the intent to arrest them. Reason for this callous behavior was simply a civil matter involving two brothers who had minor misunderstanding. Without invitation from any of them,a Soldier who came into town to enjoy himself attempted to arrest the brothers after beating them but one of them resisted the arrest, querying the soldier who invited him. In the melee boys from the community gathered and pleaded with the Soldier to leave the brothers to settle their matter by themselves. But he felt humiliated and called his Colleagues at the Riverside and those at Egbema, claiming he was assaulted. Without verification, while the unsuspecting indigenes of the community were going about their normal businesses, the Soldiers in a commando fashion invaded the community with three hilux vehicles and started brutalizing every dick and Harry on site, ransacking every nook and cranny of the community looking for prey. The entire Community was thrown into commotion with people running helter skelter for their dear life. As stated earlier, married women and Elderly men were not spared. Eyewitness accounts had it that what happened in Eziorsu yesterday was the Nigerian version of operation desert Storm. Many people were injured, some hospitalized and some lost their personal belongings. Yesterday’s episode was not the first time these khaki men are invading our community. They are fond of intervening in civil and even family matters involving husband and wife.

Their unwarranted attacks and provocation are becoming unbearable, intolerable and uncivilised and if nothing is done now to arrest this situation,it might led to another Odi experience. May I use this medium to call on the Brigade Commander of 34 brigade Obinze to call his men to order. I equally use this medium to draw the attention of Imo state government to this ugly development in Eziorsu. Being an oil producing community in Imo state, any breach of peace will spell doom on the economy of the State and the country at large.

Suffice it to say that these Soldiers have outstayed their welcome. They were deployed there to checkmate the illegal activities of Oil Bunkerers who transport oil from Bayelsa through the River Niger down to Orashi river to Ossemotor during the flood period. Unfortunately the exercise has turned out to be a profitable venture to the Defenders of the Defenseless. Methinks it is time to send these men to the barracks and if need be deploy mobile police men or conventional police to the waterfront. One of the Indigenes stated that, Eziorsu cannot afford to witness another crisis in 2019 . A stitch in time saves nine and even lives Ka Chineke mezie okwu. Thanks.

These three young boys of under 20 years of age kidnapped a 5 year old boy who happens to be related to one of them and demanded 20 million naira as ransom from the family but they eventually came to agreement on 100, 000 naira, which was paid to them.

The middle one in the picture who happens to be related to the little boy took the boy from school but handed him over to the other 2 young men in the picture. The other two then told the brother to stay away from the house they took the little boy to so he doesn’t recognize him.

The two then put drug in an orange and gave the little boy and after the boy took it, he passed out. When the two young men came back and found him motionless, they tied him, covered his face and the three buried him.

The brother was eventually interrogated and he confessed to the crime and exposed the other two.

The young men have been arrested and the body of the little boy has been recovered.

PoliticsTips On Making Nigeria A Better Place by efefemi(op): 5:21pm On Jul 16, 2019

“How do we make Nigeria a better Country?
I think this is a particularly important question that we all ask ourselves at this point in time. There are a lot of things that divide us, but one thing that unites us, or should unite us, is that we want to see our country succeed. We want it to stay great and become even better.

Let’s set aside what we have been as a country or currently are for a moment and start with a blank slate, with a little exercise. What do you personally think makes a country great? Before you get to my list below – I’d encourage you to make a list of your own so that we can compare notes, without influence.

I have high standards, but shouldn’t we all have high standards? I think it’s difficult for a country to be great without some form of the following:

a truly democratic vote – every vote is equal and representation is fair and just. Voting is encouraged (not suppressed), accessible, quick, and easy – the higher the participation, the better.
an election system where political contributions are publicly funded or capped at levels accessible to all incomes and corporate and private dark money/influence is kept out.
separation of powers – a system of checks and balances.
an independent and free press.
significant and continued investment in shared infrastructure.
a fair and just legal, court, and prison system.

PoliticsBuratai- Outrage On Insecurity Is Political by efefemi(op): 11:38am On Jul 16, 2019
Efefemisblog.com.ng

Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai, said cries of insecurity in different parts of the country are part of a political game and insisted that security agencies have reduced the influence of insurgents.

Buratai spoke at the 1 Division super camp in Kuyello, Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

“Apart from some isolated remote areas as a result of some other factors, the attacks have drastically reduced,” Buratai said.

“All these cries of insecurity which some groups and individuals are taking it as a political game I think they should have a rethink because it is no longer the case.”

He opined that efforts of the army have been “a great success which people should be assured.”

Buratai’s statement was made on the day former Nigeria president Olusegun Obasanjo warned President Muhammadu Buhari on the rising state of insecurity in the country.

“This issue (insecurity) can no longer be ignored, treated with nonchalance, swept under the carpet or treated with cuddling glove,” Obasanjo said.

Obasanjo accused Buhari of “poor management or mismanagement of diversity” leading to a “very onerous cloud is gathering”

The former president said failure to address the security issues would result in “rain of destruction, violence, disaster and disunity” in Nigeria.

But contrary to Obasanjo’s observations, Buratai said the security situation across the country has improved.

He opined that insecurity has been tamed in the northeast and in the northwest and other areas. Security challenges in northern states of Nigeria- Zamfara, Borno, Sokoto, Katsina and Kaduna have consistently been on the rise in recent months. It has led to the death of over 80,000 people and displacement of over 2 million residents since 2015.

While many have faulted Nigeria’s security agencies on their roles in security citizens of the country, former Nigeria’s defence minister Mansur Muhammad Dan Ali said the Nigerian Army has achieved “achieved a lot of success in killing bandits.”

InvestmentNigeria: NNPC Awards Oil Swap Contracts To 34 Firms by efefemi(op): 11:27am On Jul 16, 2019
Efefemisblog.com.ng

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) yesterday issued award letters to oil firms for the highly sought-after contracts to exchange crude oil for imported fuel.

Under the new contract that will take effect this month, a total of 15 groupings, with at least 34 companies in total, received award letters, four sources with knowledge of the deals said.

The winning groups include: BP/Aym Shafa; Vitol/Varo; Trafigura/AA Rano; MRS; Oando/Cepsa; Bono/Akleen/Amazon/Eterna; Eyrie/Masters/Cassiva/Asean Group; Mercuria/Barbedos/Petrogas/Rainoil; UTM/Levene/Matrix/Petra Atlantic; TOTSA; Duke Oil; Sahara; Gunvor/Maikifi; Litasco /Brittania-U; and Mocoh/Mocoh Nigeria.

NNPC's crude swap deals, which were previously referred to as offshore crude oil processing agreements (OPAs) and crude-for-products exchange arrangements, are now known as Direct Sale-Direct Purchase Agreements (DSDP).

Under the deals, the NNPC supplies crude oil to selected local and international oil traders and refineries in exchange for petrol and diesel.

NNPC had in May 2017, signed the deals with local and international traders to exchange about 330,000 barrels per day (bpd) of crude oil for imported petrol and diesel, as part of measures to sustain the supply of petroleum products across the country.

However, the deals, which expired by the end of July 2018, were extended until the end of 2018.

The state-run oil firm later extended the $6 billion oil swap deals by another six months to June 2019.

Reuters reported that while the contracts have not yet been signed, that is largely a formality as the terms have been negotiated, the sources said, and the list of companies is unlikely to change.

NNPC spokesman, Mr. Ndu Ughamadu, when reached by Reuters for comment, said he would seek verification of the news.

The number of winners is an expansion on the previous list, which had 10 pairings with a total of 22 companies.

Oil companies work hard to get on the list, which gives them coveted, and potentially lucrative, access to Nigeria's crude oil cargoes.

NNPC extended the previous contracts at least twice as the country focused on elections in February.

The swap deals have supplied virtually all of Nigeria's petrol for the past two years, as capped prices mean that other would-be importers cannot make money bringing the fuel into the country.

Nigeria, with a population of some 190 million, consumes close to 40 million litres per day of petrol and is easily the largest fuel market in West Africa.

While NNPC has refineries with a combined nameplate capacity of 445,000 barrels per day, decades without regular maintenance or investment leaves the nation almost wholly reliant on imports.

Foreign AffairsUS Federal Trade Commission Slams A Five Billion Dollars Fine On Facebook by efefemi(op): 2:05pm On Jul 13, 2019
Efefemisblog.com.ng

The US Federal Trade Commission has voted to approve a fine of five billion dollars on Facebook over privacy violations.

The sanction comes after an FTC investigation into allegations that the social media platform inappropriately shared the information of 87 million users with Cambridge Analytica.

Cambridge Analytica, a British political consulting firm, is now closed. The Wall Street Journal reported that the vote was 3-2 along party lines, with Republicans in support and Democrats in opposition to the fine.

In most cases the Justice Department’s civil division will review settlements by the FTC but it is not clear how long this will take but it could be as early as next week. As well as the fine, the settlement could include rules on how Facebook treats the privacy of its users. Despite being the largest fine the FTC has approved on a tech company, it is unlikely to trouble Facebook’s coffers.

CrimeEnugu State Traditional Ruler Son Arrested In Abuja After Committing Murder by efefemi(op): 11:52am On Jul 13, 2019
Efefemisblog.com.ng

A Chief Magistrate Court in Enugu has remanded Prince Afam Ude in prison custody over the murder of Barrister Ejimofor Ozongwu.

The police charged Ude with conspiracy of felony and murder of Ozongwu, who was reportedly killed in cold blood at his farm in December 23, 2015, following a land dispute.

It was gathered that Ude, son of the traditional ruler of Okwojo-Ngwo Asaa Autonomous Community, Col. C. C. Ude (rtd), was said to have been on the run with other members of the community since December, 2015 after the murder of Ozongwu who was the executive secretary for the Actualization of Adada State.

But luck reportedly ran out for suspect on Tuesday when a crack team of policemen that have been trailing him since 2015 arrested him in his hideout in Abuja.

Subsequently, he was arraigned before Chief Magistrate Denis Ekoh on a two count-charge bordering on conspiracy and murder.

When the charge was read, the accused person did not take plea as the magistrate declined jurisdiction to try the matter and ordered the transfer of the case file to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).

The magistrate consequently remanded the suspect in Enugu Maximum Prison and adjourned the case to July 23 for report.

The younger brother of the deceased, Chief Eric Ozongwu, who spoke to journalists shortly after the court rose, said the arrest of Prince Ude has brought the number of persons police had arrested in connection to the killing of his brother to 10 while four others have fled the country.

“We confirmed that two persons ran to South Africa, one ran to Ghana while another one ran to China.” said Chief Eric Ozongwu.

Christianity EtcDaddy Freeze: Tithing Is An Old Jewish Law by efefemi(op): 9:24am On Jun 24, 2019

Daddy Freeze took to his twitter handle yesterday to talk about Tithing again.

He wrote,

Absolutely…

Tithing is an old Jewish law that has nothing to do with Christianity. While the disciples were still alive they had ALL STOPPED obeying the Jewish laws, including tithing, nearly 2000 years ago.

Christ never collected tithes and neither did the disciples….
