SimpleGuy001:■■ Thanks a lot sir. I appreciate the insight and engagement. Truly eye opening, however, I learnt these prodigy/mpower loans can give as much as 10 years to repay . Dunno if telling the visa officer I intend to do this might help. What’s your thought on this? @Timshin has given you some factual info enough to discourage you from taking loans. Okay, to answer this question, the U.S. visa officers will never believe your repayment story even if prodigy or mpower give you 20 years to repay the loan (let's even say after your graduation). WHY ? Because there is no 100% certainty of any job waiting for you, and there is no 100% certainty that you will eventually graduate. Some clues to really convince the officer were briefly discussed in my previous suggestions. Regardless, I think getting as much funding from the school will help my case. Hopefully I can get a full ride scholarship or at least full tuition so I only have to take $50k for living expenses… I guess the lower the amount, the higher the chance they may grant it if I say I’m gonna repay that over 10 years. All your mathematical permutations and calculations here do not guarantee an F1 visa success. I have seen many Phd. & Msc. applicants with full funding and assistantship who were all denied. I have seen many f1 visa applicants with huge deficit getting visas. I have seen many applicants with superb academic credentials who also came from wealthy homes who all failed in securing f1 visas. Why ? The victims here were all focused on one particular area out of many. Given my profile, what the other avenues do you suggest? I dont know your profile, but obviously, your intention is to relocate. Apply for B1/B2 if you are in a haste, but in your visa application (DS-160), indicate interest in employment and business opportunities and during your visa interview, tell the consular that you intend to use the B1/B2 to explore employment and business opportunities in america. This may sound stupid , and some might say, " are you kidding me ? , But this is what is called genuine intention. Many have gotten their visas in this particular way. ■■ Note : Such B1/B2 visas, if successful, might be annotated . 👍 |
SimpleGuy001:●●▪︎ No Nigerian or African will come out here to tell us that he or she repaid $100k loan with weekly or monthly salary in America without taking years Or without using another offsetting means eg selling properties, etc. ■● On the issue of visa. I know few people who have told the visa officers that they intend to pursue Msc and phd after Bsc graduation and secure residency in america and they got their visas. That is called honesty. I can bodly write it here that, that is the intention (staying back) of 45% of f1 and b1/b2 visa applicants. ●▪︎▪︎ A typical American boy will be at ease to tell a police man that he just stole a bottle of wine in a supermarket, but an African boy would need rigorous drilling to say the truth. Visa officers does not believe your coming back to work stories. So being honest will give you your visas , all they need from you is to be qualified for the visa in the first instance. ■■ If your intention is to relocate via F1 visa dont take the loan. There are other avenues. Most loans needs repayment while you are still studying in america. |
SimpleGuy001:■■ I like your honesty, but if your intention is to not repay the loan, then you are only asking people to teach you how to lie. Mind you, you can not survive with a huge loan in america (while living illegally) because no company or organization has promised you a desired job after graduation. ■●▪︎ However, you can defend a loan repayment with a soon to be riped Certificate of Deposit (CD). You can defend a loan repayment with an Employment (agreement) Bond. You can also defend a loan repayment with a property deed, etc. ■●▪︎ Regarding Ivy league. MIT, Havard, and Stanford Universities are in top-5, and securing admissions into any or all of them (even simultaneously) will only give you an educational accolade, but it can never guarantee your F1 visa. F1 VISA success is not automatic no matter how rated your school is, and it does not respect anything other than its rules and policies. ■●▪︎ Maintain your honesty on the day of your f1 visa interview by telling the visa officer your intention to stay back in america. Ironically, your truth and honesty might work for you, but you MUST satisfy all f1 visa requirements. 👍 |
mikytan2019:Good Day Nairalanders I recently received my updated i20 and did an update on the DS160. The feedback I got was that My Updated I20 should be in agreement with my DS160 form. Looking through my DS160 in comparison with the i20, I couldn't find any errors. ■ Go and reread the message. Perhaps you have misinterpreted or don't understand it. What they are telling you is that your new DS-160 confirmation number (AA00E...) must be aligned (reflected in) with your visa appointment letter. This can only be done when you have created a support ticket (from your AVITS profile ). Who can please suggest what I should do 2. I am suspecting my Answer to 'Who is Funding You':may be an issue. How best do I Answer this if I have a deficit of 30k....borne btw my mom (12k) and I (18k)? I couldn't see any place for Combination of fund sources in the form. I have tried to seek their help in pointing out the place of error, they didn't give answer to it ■ You should pick "Other ", in the option, and type mother and self . I personally dont advise applicants to go with a combination of funds if there are alternatives. When POF is complicated to verify or understand, a hasty or exhausted visa officer may deny your visa based on that purpose. A very lenient one might place you on 221g. ■●▪︎ Choosing mother , father, uncle, etc. as sponsors is not reasonable enough for mature, married, and professional applicants (except if those sponsors are very wealthy and well-known). Despite this, the embassy still thinks that there must be a reasonable attachment to the fundings you are getting aside of family relations. ■●▪︎ Most Americans usually desire early freedom even before their maturity age, and by age 22 (my personal observations not official), many of them are (kind of) financially independent regardless of their family wealth. Although African culture is totally different but 75% of visa officers will still "little smile" at you if you tell them that your mother is your sponsor (at age 35, married with kids and working with a reputable organization). 👍 |
Poormanpikin:■■ You and @SisterTope have given some fantastic visa interviews outlook, but let me seive out some stones out of the beans. ■●▪︎ In support of your view, yes, lack of confidence or bravery from a visa applicant might solidify visa officers (especially new or trainees) doubt about an applicant's eligibility for a visa because fidgeting on the part of a visa applicant in the presence of a VO denotes hiding secrets, and the hiding secrets can be lies, misrepresentation, memorized lines etc. ■●▪︎ However , according to @SisterTope, I am also supporting her notion that fidgeting, fear, or stutter on the part of an applicant does not mean automatic denial because I knew a lot of visa applicants with these characteristics who eventually got their visas. WHY ? They were interviewed by seasoned or well-experienced visa officers, and those officers overlooked their negative body languages because they (the visa applicants) were genuinely qualified based on the VO's psychological assessment of their visa applications. ■●▪︎ @Poormanpikin, you also are very right that all VOs are trained to detect when an applicant is merely reciting a scripted line rather than speaking genuinely, and this kind of practice will also affect the most qualified applicants when facing a trainee or inexperienced officer. ■●▪︎ Finally, I disagree with @SisterTope that the U.S. visa interview is based on the mood and orientation of the visa officers. I also disagree that visa denials sometimes happen absolutely without a fault from the visa applicants. Visa officers have superior officers who monitor , caution, and warn them of any obvious or deliberate judgement mistakes and may report such officer officially if the situation persist. U.S. embassy operates Equal (visa) Opportunity for All, and that is why they are still rolling out visa lottery. Note: The U.S. embassy in any location can not give out visas to all qualified visa applicants at the same time in any given day. That is why your tiny mistake or not following instructions might screen you out of a visa list. Anyone who thinks that all Nigerians should have a U.S. visa at the same time or at a go or at any wishing time is definitely having the illusion of Nigeria becoming the 51st State of America. 👍 |
Ifemeze:■■ @DokitaDave has given you the updated procedure. Follow the directive. 👍 |
Follyfy:■■ You are going for a family appointment but the application procedure is a complex or twisted one. All of you are going to apply in one AVITS amentum profile. The principal applicant (F1) will apply alone and the f2 (wife or wife and kids) will apply together in the same profile. ■●▪︎ It seems your previous payment has gone to the wind. 👍 |
Teniolasmart:■■ Most people on Nairaland , who are well-experienced will never teach you to over talk in the presence of a visa officer. @FunnyDude has spoken our minds. 👍 |
DefinitelyNotAI:■■ You should worry less about the future of your application because no one can absolutely predicts the U.S. embassy routines. They may call you for physical appearance regardless of your IW qualification. Focus on getting a date first. ■● Fill DS-160 and be certain that the DS-160 location is in tandem with the location you are trying to drop your application. ■▪︎ You will be asked IW qualification questionnaire in the process of applying and your status will indicate in your appointment letter. ■▪︎ There is always IW appointment in Lagos and Abuja because IW applicants are not even near the half population of regular applicants. Be certain that you have done the needful. 👍 |
oludy:■■ I understand this situation as a confusing scenario, but let me break it down to brief. ■●▪︎ (100). IF your mum s DS-160 confirmation number is still reflecting in her present visa appointment letter then that is what the U.S. embassy want. She must however attend the visa interview with new current (2) Passport photos. ■●▪︎ DS-160 form after 6-Months of submittion starts losing update value because the U.S. embassy believes that human beings changes constantly, hence they prefer that your DS-160 & passport photo is most updated within 1 - 6 months. Ipso facto, your mum's 1 year DS-160 needs to be updated because many things like house address, looks, etc might have changed. ■●▪︎ IF your mum's current avits profile allows for update then I will recommend that she fill a new DS-160 , upload her current photo and update it via raising a ticket inside her profile. ■● If she is not in a place to fill another ds-160 and update it and everything is aligned together as described in number 100 above then she can attend her visa appointment like that. Note. The country and post you choose in the beginning of your ds-160 ie " Nigeria - Abuja ", must be the location where you must attend your interview. 👍 |
Spiceyspicey:■■ As a prospective F1- visa applicant, the first compulsory step for you is to fill DS-160 and pay MRV (visa fee). By this, you have access to all options on your avits profile including application for Expedited Appointment and 5x (times) rescheduling. ■●▪︎ In this respect, you can place application for ER and even attended your interview without sevis fee payment. However, I want you to be aware that SEVIS fee payment goes directly into the pocket of the U.S. government because that is where they generate money to maintain your I-20 and communicate with your school DSO about your well-being as a foreign student. Disadvantages ; ●▪︎ Holding back to pay sevis fee makes you an incomplete f1 visa applicant. ●▪︎ Your expedited appointment, and other goodies of F1 visa application might be delayed since the embassy will focus on applicants with complete application. ●▪︎ You will eventually be placed on 221g (if you are lucky) to go and pay your sevis fee if by chance you attended your f1 visa interview without the payment. Or the visa officer may deny your application and ask you to reapply. 👍 |
Hayormide212:■■ Social media vetting cannot take 3. 6 weeks or months. The embassy is definitely doing another background checks. If social media vetting take weeks then all F1 student visa applicants will certainly resume late or defer their admissions. I personally knows many f1 visa applicants who got their visa approvals same day. 👍 |
dalobaba:■■ Yes. "RESCHEDULE ", will affect it positively or stay neutral. reschedule is the only option for you to click in order to pick another date. If your expedite is approved you must click on Reschedule in order to navigate out of your current date. If you do not see any favourable date then log out. By logging out nothing changes, your initial date will still be there. 👍 |
Jack880:■■ Okay, where was it written that you were placed on INA 221g for social media vetting ? Or did the visa officer told you that verbally ? Or you just thought that was the reason ? ** You can be placed on 221g for many reasons and the reaaon will be marked in a sheet or the officer will tell you what to do verbally. ■●▪︎ If any instructional slip nor verbal directive is not given to you aside of what you attached then you still have another 30 days of waiting. You are lucky they responded to your email. You dont have to send email until after 60 days. 👍

giselle237:■■ Please log back. Come and tell us what happened to a Nigerian who was denied U.S visa inside of Canada ? I have many empirical evidences of this including UK and Australia? ■▪︎▪︎ Can you give us the official list of countries the United States of America officially mentioned as appropriate for you to travel to before you can be certified as a well traveled or a traveler ? ■▪︎▪︎ @giselle. Your argument seems to be based on names or beauty. Are you saying a Professor of Mathematics from University of Nigeria will not be well-rated like a Professor of Mathematics from Cambridge University ? ■●▪︎ I stand on my points. Any sovereign nation ie Somalia, Nigeria, Gabon , Germany. Canada, UK, Ghana etc are equal in ratings in terms of " Have you traveled out of your country before ? Many world billionaires and wealthy people have homes in those countries you are underrating. Genuineness and Reasonable purpose for travel is of utmost importance. 👍 |
Timshin:■●▪︎ You can change from Lagos to Abuja or vice versa . To do this, you will have to be using only " Reschedule option (do not click on cancel). And no, you do not have to pay another visa fee. ▪︎▪︎ However, you must fill another ds-160 form in order to match with your final embassy preference and update it inside your avits profile . 👍 |
Pristineni:■■ Your uncle in the U.S used your information for settlement process but you did not know if it was PR or Citizenship. You are also not sure of his status but as of 2016 he was a permanent resident. ■●▪︎ Either you mention relative in america or not will not reduce or add to your F1- visa success . There are many Nigerians in america that also answer same surname as you if that is also your fear. The only avenue for the visa officer to query or do background checks is if you state your uncle as your sponsor. Note: Your question is funny. Say the truth of what happens to Nairalanders if someone have used your information for shady stuffs. Hiding information will only give you wrong solution. Meanwhile, your uncle is now a U.S citizen if everything has gone well with his residency. 👍 |

Africankel:@Africanboy. Thank you for coming out . I know many people out there (like yourself) will be having it difficult to break up that proverbial reply. Lets break it up.. EFE. Every country count in terms of travel history. Your purpose of visit is of utmost importance. U.S. embassy never label any country as a not sufficient country to travel to. We are the ones labeling countries as poor or local. If the United States government can have an embassies in Ghana, Togo. Uganda etc then such country is a sovereign nation. EFE ■ If Nairaland Nigeria sends you to Ghana, South Africa and Togo on official errands within 3 - years. You will have a better travel history than a multimillionaire who have been to Canada, UK and Germany for holidays or unnecessary funs. May be you are underrating Nairaland. Okay if NNPC Nigeria sends you as a representative- staff to attend conferences in the aforementioned countries in the span of 3 years, dont you think you have a good travel history and purpose than a self-made traveler who visits Canada, Germany and UK for holiday ? EFE Nowadays, traveling unnecessarily to all countries without any reasonable reasons makes you a suspect at the U.S embassies. United States government have changed their games with terrorists, fraudsters, money launderers, etc. These people are well-educated , they have scientists, they have lots of money to spend and their major weapon is networking. How do they network ? By communication and traveling. ■ Now tell me how will you not be screened and focused on at the U.S embassy when you have travelled to 5 countries for fun/pleasure within 2 years ? ▪︎▪︎ No competition , no abusive or insult. Elders in the house can start checking this out. 👍 |
k2039:■■ You are supposed to receive another email (which will enable you to download a new visa appointment letter) aside of the confirmation email. You can bypass this or if the 2nd email fails to come. Login to your avits and download another visa appointment letter. Open the letter and see if it display your new ds-160 confirmation #. ■● Your Group URN is confusing here. Only family members can apply as a group from Nigeria. Besides just follow the directive. ■ Except if you have any other info to share. 👍 |
Follyfy:■■ My answer (as attached) said from page 100 which means you should start studying the page till you get to the last. I did not tell you to go and look at page 100 for the solution. Meanwhile , you have twisted your question here. In your initial question (attached) you did not mention that you have sent any email that was why I directed you to where you will see the email format. Where did you send the email to and how did you send it ? If you have trully sent the email according to Lagos or Abuja Visa Navigator directive then there is no more solution. Just keep waiting and cheking.
|
LaMujer:■■ Go back to my original answer and look at how I started .. If this transcript is real.. which i knew its not a practical transcript. It was formulated in order to cause unnecessary arguments. But why did you not get the visa as you have now turned to our teacher ? A genuine transcript will attract different opinions and you will pick whatever you want. Go back and get the visa . No need of fighting us. 😀 |
Follyfy:■● Use your mrv receipt, and the screenshot of your avits dashboard message to send mail to the embassy and copy avits amentum. Go back from page 100 of this same thread. You will see the directive to send the mail. 👍 |
giselle237:@giselle. Every country count in terms of travel history. LaMujer:■■ YOU VO: Good morning and why are you going to the US? Me: Good morning, I'm going to my cousin's graduation at Uni of MD. If this visa transcript is real, then the failure starts from here. When you are not the biological or adopted parent , or the authorized ward or direct sibling with convincing reason of attendance, there is no way any U.S. consular will issue the visa. YOU VO: What do you do for a living? Me: I'm a senior data analyst at ... U.S. visa officers are conversant with Nigeria salary level/scales. I am not disputing your salary here, but the consular may dispute it based on your highest qualification as indicated in your ds-160. Therefore, your 1.3m NGN might be funny. YOU VO: Have you been outside Nigeria before? Me: Yes, I've been to Moz, ..., and ... VO: And all these were in the last 5 years? Me: Yes, Moz in 2022 ... and ... in 2023 The visa officer was indirectly saying, " Why are you traveling all about unnecessarily? Okay, you were doing this in order to come and claim travel history points ? YOU VO: You said you visited Moz, why did you go there? Me: I'm a lover of African culture and nature. Plus, they speak Portuguese, which is closely related to Spanish, and I speak Spanish. Here, the visa officer is justified by your flimsy or unreasonable reasons. ? because you love African culture and nature...... YOU VO: Habla portugués? Me: No, hablo español (we both laughed) Unfortunately for you, the visa officer is a master in spanish, and he or she was laughing at you because you failed the verbal test woefully. If you can speak spanish averagely (which is very related to portugués) and you went to Mozambique because they speak Portuguese, so you can not reply the visa officer with " Bom dia ", (Good morning in Portuguese ) ? So you dont know any Portuguese word at all, and you traveled to Mozambique for the love of the language perhaps more than once ? YOU VO: Are you married? Me: No, I'm engaged VO: The house you stay, is it rented or you own it? When did the visa officer start asking this kind of question (the house you stay, 👆? Me: It's a rented apartment VO: Who do you live with? Me: Oh, I live with my fiancée. Anyways , you have zero ties to Nigeria. YOU Them just dey share blue paper anyhow 🤣 Didn't ask me or anyone else to see any documents, except for i20 for the F1 visas. Not even DS160s, I believe they have attached our ds160 to our passport, so the VO only ask for passport. They will share blue papers to those who are not qualified. U.S. visa is not a piece of cake. Besides, it seems you get it wrong on the DS-160. If they have attached your DS-160 to your passport, did you not see it inside your passport? The most important information to the visa officer the moment both of you meet is your DS-160 slip. Or they have stopped collecting ds160 confirmation slip. 👍 |
Teju2014:■■ You don't know everyone in Nigeria. The information I gave over there is valid and practical . Don't compare your visa situation to that of all the citizens of Nigeria. My answer was based on 5 years... multiple-entry. Thank you . |
zinachidi:@Zinachidi. With all honesty. I have seen 5 applicants from last week up till now with their normal f1 visa stampings as normal as before. Nothing change. I have posted it sevaral time that the policy is not going to be easy to be enacted on international students. ■ On B1/B2, 2 ladies got their normal 5 years last week Tuesday (July 15th, 2025). I saw it with my eyes. ■● Normally it can take the embassy 2 months in order to change visa stamps, seals, and all official visa ingredients (permit my grammar) that has formally carried the 5-years (on B1/B2) visa authorization. Hence, people might still be getting the 5 years until they are fully ready for the 3 - months enactment. Practically, they cannot start issuing 3-months overnight otherwise they will have to delay visa issuance. 👍 |
Timshin:■■ A possible fruitless effort. You can't send a reminder to the embassy staffs in order to awaken them to their jobs. Your existing ER is pending and they have the record, they knows your start of class and they will decide if to grant your request out of hundreds. ■ Keep using the lifeline of " Reschedule " to look for nearer dates. All incoming F1- visa applicants should do the needful and follow all application instructions fully. Pay sevis fee, fill ds-160 completely by signing and submit, and date-sign your form I-20. 👍 |
okezieemmanuel:■■ Defer your admission is my pick, but " never say never", you may pick the too far date then request for expedite appointment. NB: You need approximately 4 wks to assimilate yourself with anything f1 mock practise or info. Its better to wait and prepare than to rush and fail. 👍 |
GboyegaD:■■ That does not matter . We should always post the fact of all visa policies. Not saying the fact or hiding the fact gives many people shock or hypertension. As an experienced traveler, i expect you to back the fact that B1/B2 visa may be canceled for an F1 visa approval based on CWOP. Okay what can a B1/B2 visa holder do in america that an F1 visa holder cannot do ? Therefore some visa officer may decide to cancel the visiting visa. Not every visa holder do the preparation him or herself. Her first visa might be done with genuine documentation while the last one is being done with a counterfeit documents without the consent of the applicant. The summary: One visa type can be canceled for the other if they serve almost the same purpose or if the last one serves better than the former. |
GboyegaD:■■ If she is denied one category based on gross misrepresentation or obvious fraud eg counterfeit POF or impersonation they will cancel the other. |
Abdulmgr:■■ Well, Nairalanders will always notify us of newly available dates but no one can tell you (not even the embassy staffs, except those absolutely concern) when the new available dates will roll out. ●▪︎ My advice is for you to pick any date in any location so that you will have access to apply for emergency appointment as the last joker. 👍 |
