FashionRe: Let's Sew For Fun (**valisimo Fashion School Online Classroom**) by EFOSAVAL(op):
Thanks every one. cheesy

okikiola14:
if i want to make full or fluffy puff with the sleeve measurement nd diagram u gave me hw many seam allowances will i add to the normal measurement.
Ok the simple rule is that the more you increase the width of the arm the more puffs you will have at the end

this brings us to methods in pattern drafting called slash and spread.

The slash and spread method helps us to convert a basic sleeve or straight sleeve into volume ones such as pleats gathers and sometimes flea cuts.the process enables you to add you dished increase to create fullness.

Spread open you should have this

FashionRe: Let's Sew For Fun (**valisimo Fashion School Online Classroom**) by EFOSAVAL(op):
Now on The length area is also the under arm area.next you link it up to your cap area.
The more you go down on the length the more you will raise the cap area.the longer your slope will be which would enable volume around On the shoulder or around the arm hole

FashionRe: Let's Sew For Fun (**valisimo Fashion School Online Classroom**) by EFOSAVAL(op): 11:29pm On Apr 27, 2015
First Picture up is how u measure the wideness of the sleeve note that it must be on fold for front and back
. The second is how u get the length.

Now locate the center of the folded circumference
It's through that centre that we would curve the cap area and the under arm part

FashionRe: Let's Sew For Fun (**valisimo Fashion School Online Classroom**) by EFOSAVAL(op):
1) First measure the desired length by the circumference.
2) Cut out your length by the circumference plus seam allowance. This is the time to consider if the sleeve will be fitted or with volume .It will affect the way you cut the slope.

It should look like this. With the cap area, under arm area or armpit part, hand area.

FashionRe: Let's Sew For Fun (**valisimo Fashion School Online Classroom**) by EFOSAVAL(op): 8:47pm On Apr 27, 2015
Now to get the slope on our sleeve

The slope is the space from the cap area to the under arm

grin grin woo cool
Am so happy this is helpful somehow grin

I just thank God for making me meet you guys here.i don't take any of this for granted at all.thanks for letting me be a part of your journey in fashion designing.as long as you don't stop improving, one day u will see that you will be living your dream. wink
FashionRe: Let's Sew For Fun (**valisimo Fashion School Online Classroom**) by EFOSAVAL(op):
Sleeve are generally in two forms.its either it's fitted to the arm or its with volumes

The brown paper one is the fitted one it can be short midium or long.the arm area is usually fitted to the body this means the easy allowance for this style wouldn't be much at all like 1.5 extra to what ever the circumference measurement is. Also notice the armpit area is not deep at all.its light like 2 or 3 inches.
The length from the cap area of this type of sleeves usually would fit into the arm hole without remaining extra to pleat or gather.
This type of sleeves are found on shirts. Some female tops too have it.

The second is the volume type of sleeves. See how deep down the armpit area is . unlike the other fitted sleeve this one is usually cut out bigger that the actual arm hole then the left over is pleated or gathered either up on the shoulder area or around the arm hole

There is something we call the Slope in sleeves. It's mostly represented as S.i will show how to create your slope also we would see how the slope affects the shape of the sleeve

FashionRe: Let's Sew For Fun (**valisimo Fashion School Online Classroom**) by EFOSAVAL(op):
Nice one good to know cheesy

Hope u all had a blessed week.

So far no questions on the arm hole.i believe it's clear enough. Now we have established the fact that we take the measurement for sleeve by the desired length and desired circumference next let's see how to shape
the cap area of the sleeve,
the mid area and
the arm pit part of a sleeve

As it will be placed in the arm hole

FashionRe: Let's Sew For Fun (**valisimo Fashion School Online Classroom**) by EFOSAVAL(op): 11:13pm On Apr 22, 2015
Thanks to every one. cheesy I am personally happy that you under standard the tutorials so far.honestly it's been the grace of God all along. I would have wanted to continue the sleeve now but Lagos traffic dealt with me so much today that all I can do now is to sleep. Please bear with me .soon as I have some time tomorrow I will send in my post on sleeve. thanks
FashionRe: Let's Sew For Fun (**valisimo Fashion School Online Classroom**) by EFOSAVAL(op):
We are done with the arm hole area. Now its time for the sleeve.
I told you earlier that the sleeve measurement is in two ways
1) measurement by length - eg cap sleeve length, short length,3 quarter length, full length.

2) measurement by circumference. This is simply taking the measurement round the arm to get how fitted or loose it will be on the hand.

FashionRe: Let's Sew For Fun (**valisimo Fashion School Online Classroom**) by EFOSAVAL(op): 11:20pm On Apr 21, 2015
So far we have looked at the arm hole, also how to cut it also what u can fix into the arm hole now lets look at lowering the arm hole incase it's too tight.the diagram below shows how to. Please note that the more you lower the arm hole to the bust area the bigger the arm hole space will be.

You can get this by using a designers curve

FashionRe: Let's Sew For Fun (**valisimo Fashion School Online Classroom**) by EFOSAVAL(op): 11:00pm On Apr 21, 2015
Some times the sleeve may not cover the entire arm hole space.

like a cap sleeve.
The sleeve in this diagram starts in zone 1 and ends in zone 2.it did not get to zone 3.

FashionRe: Let's Sew For Fun (**valisimo Fashion School Online Classroom**) by EFOSAVAL(op): 10:56pm On Apr 21, 2015
On zone 1 the shoulder point You can make the sleeve u want to insert at this point fitted or with volumes.

eg Puff sleeve and bishop sleeve

FashionRe: Let's Sew For Fun (**valisimo Fashion School Online Classroom**) by EFOSAVAL(op): 9:46pm On Apr 21, 2015
Now that we have learnt how you cut the arm hole
Let's see what we can do in the arm hole space

FashionRe: Let's Sew For Fun (**valisimo Fashion School Online Classroom**) by EFOSAVAL(op): 9:17pm On Apr 21, 2015
Here is what I am saying

FashionRe: Let's Sew For Fun (**valisimo Fashion School Online Classroom**) by EFOSAVAL(op):
EFOSAVAL:
This simple process helps u for a square which you can link as arm hole.now from that upper bust line just add half inch down or 1 inch to get the right arm hole measurements for the person

please study the diagram below.
If you look at the diagram well u will notice a straight line drawn from the shoulder to the upper bust or chest area. It's after that square that u determine how your curve should be.

On my diagram I have 3 lines aroused the armpit area .This is to tell u that the more u go close to the angle where the straight line from the shoulder meets the upper bust chest the wider the space for the arm hole will be.and the further away u make the curve from that angle the smaller the space will be.

FashionRe: Let's Sew For Fun (**valisimo Fashion School Online Classroom**) by EFOSAVAL(op): 8:04pm On Apr 21, 2015
What I do is I take the circumference of the upper bust and on that same line i take the upper bust by length ( from shoulder to the top part of the bust)

FashionRe: Let's Sew For Fun (**valisimo Fashion School Online Classroom**) by EFOSAVAL(op): 8:02pm On Apr 21, 2015
EFOSAVAL:
Back to sleeves

The process of taking the sleeve measurements simply entails
1- Taking the desired length (from the shoulder down be it short, half length, 3 quater or long length) and the desire
2- Taking the desired circumference ( round the arm or the rist)

Now some find it difficult to measure a persons arm hole because of the smell and sweat lipsrsealed undecided...... grin well me too, in fact I never put my tape rule there. sad despite that it's important to take the accurate measurement there as this would affect how u cut your sleeve at the end of the day.

What I do is I take the circumference of the upper bust and on
that same line i take the upper bust by length ( from shoulder to
the top part of the bust, "but please madam val, what I was told was... the burst divided by 4 will give us the armhole. .. what do you think about that.?
Hummmm never heard that before grin but am curious
To learn how that would work.lets use my bust measurement.
My bust is 42.
42÷4 =10.5
Close but not exactly what I use.i mostly use 9 inches for my armhole.

For me I respect other people's methods and ideology when it comes to being creative on this job. so if you have tried it and it works for u fantastic. wink but if you think it's not working for you and u would like to adopt a new please feel free. wink
