What I do is I take the circumference of the upper bust and on that same line i take the upper bust by length ( from shoulder to the top part of the bust)

Back to sleeves The process of taking the sleeve measurements simply entails 1- Taking the desired length (from the shoulder down be it short, half length, 3 quater or long length) and the desire 2- Taking the desired circumference ( round the arm or the rist) Now some find it difficult to measure a persons arm hole because of the ...... well me too, in fact I never put my tape rule there. despite that it's important to take the accurate measurement there as this would affect how u cut your sleeve at the end of the day.

We also have a fashion school and as sure they would require a place to intern right so presently we don't do intern for people as we reserve it for our students. |
Time for sleeves. We would look at sleeves in relation to the arm hole The different types.things to note when cutting them .finishing the edges etc I may not use fabric for this lesson so I will be going on brown paper. Get ready ladies. This would be fun as usual. Still waiting for your previous projects to be posted thou.

diegs:Most sewing machines work the same according to their functions. 1)we have the straight sewing ones .can be black manual or white head electrical. 2) the over lockers and (weeping machines) 3) Decorative stitch types also known as embroidery machines. so I wouldn't say there is a best one . people might likely say so so so is the best but that might just be because that's the only one he/she is using. What ever the sewing machine u eventually get just ensure you regularly service it also do not panic when u see its not sewing well . sometimes it's just a simple setting issue that's the problem |
askj:Was busy over the weekend .hope we all rested. The pocket is very simple to make. I simply cut a fabric about 7 inch wide.lenght was 6 inches.i neat the edge that would show on top of the pocket with 1 inch. Now after joining the front and back yellow in the middle, I spread open the side seam and place the pocket on the front side ensuring that it stays in the meddle of the side seam.lastly I place the white Under the yellow also to hold fast the bottom of the pocket. |
Depends on how far gone your baby bump is .but If it's for a wedding you might need more than 3 yards to create something fabulous. |
Our next topic will be sleeves as promised earlier. But I am gonna wait till I take questions from the house so I know we are all clear on this Mini dress project. ![]() |

Sorry I haven't ironed it out yet.the sleeve is not there yet and I haven't sown the hem line too.this one will not have pockets as my half yard of lemon green fabric was the last one at the fabric store where I got it (i am freck for green and lemon shades that's why I couldn't resist it )so I don't have enough to make the pockets. But the yellow one will have it since I have enough. How about yours? ![]()

Using the diagram to explain what I cut. K-B is my hip 48 +seam on 4 folds so my single K-B =12 + 2=14 H-C is where the first white ends it's my upper bust line it's there I have my bust 44 placed on 4 fold That means my single H-C after shaping will be 11 +2 =13. H-F is my arm hole also at 8 .my shoulder slope F-G -D is 1 inch. G-J is where I will fix my sleeve. F-A is my across shoulder 16 ÷2 =8 D-A is 3.5 out of the F-A 8 A-E is the round part of the neck or neck depth I made it 4.while the V part of the neck which come from E-C is 3.5 To get the V part well study DAEC well. Now on D-E subtract 1 inch from the E part.making the E move backwards.from the new E link it to C. There you go.you got a perfect V for your neck. For the back it's going to have a zip Which I added to the seam allowance already.thats why it my KB became 14 instead of 12. So the neck side of my back block I mark out 1 inch for zip. Then I lower my A by 1.5 for the neck at the back but If you are patient enough to read this pattern then you will understand it very clearly. Just make sure you relate my instructions to the diagram to get the picture clear. |
Oh cool . really nice I hope you do this present project too Diagram instructions
|
Nice. keep the progress post coming in |
Next I fold my fabric in 4.( front block into 2, back block into 2 ) Remember the hip is 48 now To get my 4 folds I will have 48÷4 =12 + seam allowance. Fabric still on hold, I Shape out shoulder 8, my neck depth ,4 for the round part 3.5 for the V part of the neck leading to the yellow, that's 7.5 the last half is for seam making it a total of 8 . arm hole 8

ayolight: I actually don't have a note o . never needed one to teach any topic. I usually explain it on the go. So many people have suggested I write a book on it but am too busy to settle myself down to write. One day thou I pray I will get round to it. ![]() Kamkumkaf my pin is 7904911C. ![]() |

well me too, in fact I never put my tape rule there.
despite that it's important to take the accurate measurement there as this would affect how u cut your sleeve at the end of the day.

So if there's anyone that has ideas about how to go about it in Nigeria... any pointers. Anything will be helpful and appreciated . Thanks guys!
