bigrovar: Problem is when it develops a fault and then you are stuck because very few technician knows how to fix those things. Name brand is non tested durability is in question. Besides most convintional fridge are getting more and more efficient as long as you have your system is well sized u will be fine. good point sir I was authoritatively informed it can be converted to conventional fridge/freezer but-then what a waste of resources just because of low wattage efficiency. |

Saipro: Cycling loads (especially thermostat regulated ones) are really difficult to put an energy estimate figure on because they might consume their max nameplate rating till the thermostat kicks in (whenever that is). Then there's the surge to deal with each time they start up again.
I have a freezer which consumes roughly 360W on startup and 300W a few minutes later. From then on, consumption is highly dependent on how cool the interior is. Somehow, the more items frozen in it, the less energy consumed (seems somewhat logical), right up until the thermostat kicks in.
And manufacturers often list nameplate values for ideal operating conditions - oftentimes a far departure from real world conditions. True talk. I came across this nameless fridge/freezer reading 72w only. But I went back there with A/C watt meter & had a reading of 102w wen compressor kicked.. maybe some enthusiast will check model online for nameplate or http://www.google.com.ng/url?q=http://www.sy-beier.com/Product/3980245831.html&sa=U&ved=0ahUKEwiYs_S9z4DUAhWNalAKHUD3CSsQFggLMAA&sig2=W5p8GZW-GZXyWxDouaRGkA&usg=AFQjCNH1qncdoshfOPMXm9iSanf0LCbPrw

this watt meter/kill a watt, seems the 15amp variant isnt in the market?...all i see is 13amp type. am looking for led bulbs, not panels...seen some on konga 7w , 5w etc...but not bright enough for me...want to use them as security/outside light...prefarablly mounted on top of the fence tx bro you're right my watt meters are rated 13amps but I have practically pushed over 15amps tru one of dem without problems. I advice u immediately change follow-come ba3 wen u get a new one. surprisingly, standards are abused in Nigerian market. I have tested those LED bulbs and found that they are NOT tru. they are fraudulently rated. 3w is actually 5.5w & dat 7 watt is close to 12w. so bare in mind these erroneous or misleading information on LEDs in d market. cheers!

earthrealm: what type of charge controller are you using? and what are the preset chrging voltages. when i was using morning star cc, once there is phcn, the morning star charging output will reduce drastically [prolly cos the inverter charging voltage was higher than the cc's voltage.------ who knows, long time ago it happened, and wasnt so knowledgeable] now i use epsolar with charge voltage set at 15v, it never happens again, with phcn..battery bank will be charged at optimum rates simultaneously.
hope you know the 3.5kva inverter cant charge your bank properly, thus the solar panels should be your primary charging source [hope you used the correct charging voltage setting in your CC]. SOME BAtts in ur bank are unhealthey, try and isolate the bad ones, load test, use a hydrometer to test the sg of the batts, and ensure you rectify and equalize your bank frequently. you may consider changing out the trojan if you confirm its irredeembale
some inverters like full voltage 220v, anything below 170v, and they will stop charging and switch to bad mode...either get a 5kva stab...or buy a 10/15kva central stab for the whole house
@the fullriver batt issue, by stating 50k as his selling price, kiekie is indirectly telling us that we should always haggle& price him like market women, selling crayfish. seems we expected much more noble standards from him , i dont like haggling , but my few interactions with kiekie confirmed to me that he likes /is iused to haggling, cu0gumuo / richmond to mention a few dont use this haggling route, they go straigth to the point price....seasoned professionals
@kiekie i price your 250w panel u listed 27k, i need 6 units, my nos is in my signature, call me if game I have painfully observed recent discus regarding kiekie1 it is good to raise & settle issues here. I subjectively think the fullriver ba3 @ 50k be laid to rest. Have had customer-seller relation wit Sir Frankie almost on monthly basis & he delivers as per agreement. with cash deposits to him, i have not heard issues of fraud or 419 case. if prices are not mutually ok, trade cannot occur , it does not mean one should paint one bad when the market is flooded with alternatives. please let's by-gone be gone, and not post childish talk anymore and build cooperation across Nigeria through solar. |

sensisosu: Hello house,
I have a 3.5kva Sukham inverter system with a setup of 8 pieces 250w mono panels, 60amps mppt charge controller and 4 200amps batteries
The issue I am currently having right now are:
My solar panels are positioned in a way that after 1pm my panels aren't getting enough sun light due to the position of My house(the panels are placed on the roof of my house)
I have a problem with a Trojan battery as it discharges faster than the remaining 3 batteries
My inverter usually goes off at 2am in the midnight with minimal or no load on the system
When I'm on nepa inverter cuts off when there is drop in voltage..
I would like my honorable members on this thread to enlighten on how to get the best out of my systems..
Thank you all and I will greatly appreciate your opinion old boy you have an enviable solar setup! I know some members will fume being too quick to offer my chip of little advice or help. just imagine, national grid has dipped low again, imagine again the built up anger with non solar users. As solar enthusiast & DIY, i know solar-is-able therefore it is my joy to offer my piece of advice within the limit of my experience, of course it may be considered not optimal showing reasons for other DIY to learn. so Oga sensisosu, what i garnered from previous discus on flooded ba3 particularly Trojan, I don't think you have a serious problem. I believe that ba3 has caused ur bank to drain too quickly because itself has not been properly charged by inverter or panels. so consider doing limited load & equalization charge of 15.5v for about four hours for about a week am sure u will see signs of recovery. on your panels not receiving enough sunlight. I discovered I am guilty of same during installation of my setup too by schematicaly laying Panels vertically instead of horizontally. laying horizontally extends surface area to more sun while it travels from east to west. like guru dmerciful & other mentioned. the angle of elevation can also work wonders. I submit that you don't tamper with ur sulkam please. thanks |

ola28: VICTRON MPPT CHARGE CONTROLLER 150V/85A @250K
PLS CALL OLA ON 09057285592
PV voltage up to 150 V The BlueSolar MPPT 150/70 and 150/85 charge controllers will charge a lower nominal-voltage battery from a higher nominal voltage PV array. The controller will automatically adjust to a 12, 24, 36, or 48V nominal battery voltage. Ultra-fast Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) Especially in case of a clouded sky, when light intensity is changing continuously, an ultra-fast MPPT controller will improve energy harvest by up to 30% compared to PWM charge controllers and by up to 10% compared to slower MPPT controllers. Advanced Maximum Power Point Detection in case of partial shading conditions If partial shading occurs, two or more maximum power points may be present on the power-voltage curve. Conventional MPPT’s tend to lock to a local MPP, which may not be the optimum MPP. The innovative BlueSolar algorithm will always maximize energy harvest by locking to the optimum MPP. Outstanding conversion efficiency Maximum efficiency exceeds 98%. Full output current up to 40°C (104°F). Flexible charge algorithm Several preconfigured algorithms. One user programmable algorithm. Manual or automatic equalisation. Battery temperature sensor. Battery voltage sense option. Programmable auxiliary relay For alarm or generator start purposes Extensive electronic protection Over-temperature protection and power derating when temperature is high. babaegun: So, few days ago, I upgraded my setup from the old 24 volts , 4 solar panel setup.
Now i have a car port with 12 nos 250 W Solar Panels (mixture of felicity and my-home with almost similar configuration). The car port can accommodate 15 panels Maximum (by just tweaking the holes in pipes), 80A Fangpusun Mppt Charge Controller, Mate 2, 48V Battery (4 Quanta batteries connected in series), and 5kva - 48V Felicity Inverter.
The only item missing is the Monitoring System which i need to complete but I can access the readings up to 128 days on the Charge controller. Need to brace the car port too. Interestingly, the highest generation so far recorded 8.4kWH in a cloudy day and I've been off grid for like 3 weeks(24/7) because the transformer in my area packed up.
I think its a good way to start for a beginner like me, right? Solar is addictive, I feel happy seeing people deriving joy from upgrades. Seat back & enjoy ur sweat. Every kobo spend is well spent. |

Of couse, ur 20A breaker is sufficient and will even protect or CC. Mathmatically maximum for ur setup would be around 16.66A @ 2x2 remember it a 200w PV A =200W/24V =8.33A. Also imagine extra amps your CC will have to convert from excess voltage in addition to 16.66A My point is that if I were u. I will opt for higher rating to allow me expand along with it. Solar is addictive , you will soon find out that u need more panels etc. Cheers! therealMcCain: Thanks Sir
1. You said 2x2, 20A
Was I suppose to go for a higher breaker rating? The max of my CC is 30A
I saw 50A breaker but I felt that will be useless there cos of my CC amp limit
the parameters for the panels are
Voc-43.2v Isc-6.24A Vmax-34.8v Imax-4.9A
With a 2x2 config what Current will I be getting? Will it be more than or up to 20A?
Before the panels were taken up, the meter reading from the 4 panels were around 36v each.
2. On the issue of breaker to cutoff feedback, the only breaker i have is the ones in the DB
So far, 2 sockets doesn't trip the inverter |

@ McCain I find Addresses to ur questions appropriate within the limit if my DIY. I don't do solar installation for a living, all my contributions to the forum is purely what I gained from the house/forum & personal DIY efforts expressing that solar is do able. I USE THIS OPPORTUNITY TO THANK ALL MEMBERS IN HOUSE in making sure R/E get roots Nigeria. I say thank you all sellers in the house for honest services. Many of whom I had dealings with and many more I will contact for their services. Now Oga RealMcCain I am happy u've chosen ur balcony after putting necessary measures in place. 2x2, 20amps (well maybe 4 now daz wot u want), 16mm are splendid. Also ur ba3 @ rest 13v is nice. About 2 AH indicated by cc means ur ba3 are floating & do not need to draw more harvest from ur PVs. On ur inverter, I think it is back feeding itself due to ur faulty sockets. Remember u said it comes on wen switched off if u slightly insert loads. But a crude way to check of ur inverter is not back feeding is to remove output loads to ur DB & connect sometin like frezer to the back of the inverter for about 20mins, observe its performance & beeping. Ur will know if back feeding as affected it or a factory defect. Don't u have appropraite breakers to cut off back feeding before being detected by ur inverter ? Anyway I appeal to gurus in the house with similar teething problems to contribute. Cheers! Solar rules. |

I appreciate you for finding time to cross check cable-voltage-drop. Thank you sir. Findings are noted! pranil: A 10 mm2 cable will loose 4.6 mv per amp per meter How much is the current ?. if the shunt of the meter is 200 MV then 0.2 drop is in meter itself .see attached. Meanwhile 0.5 v is 2 % difference which is well within tolerance level of measuring instruments ( normally they are class 5 ) if you want accurate readings you need class one meter like fluke Multi meter or hight quality meter ( e g.
