Romance / Get In Here If You Have Ever Gotten Into A Relationship Via Naira Land by ekenetheorg(m): 5:00pm On Jun 07, 2015 |
Nairaland has about 1,371,635 members and 2,099,244 topics and it's evident that many persons have been connected to get information and business through this big numbers. I have done a work for someone I met via Nairaland. But I also know that in this 1.3m members, there are male and female, not to talk of Caitlyn and all those stuffs. So I wanna ask, how do you get connected with an opposite sex here... Those who have done so should help... and give testimony. I've heard of wedding and marriages made possible via twitter, Instagram and Facebook connection. any such thing on Nairaland 1 Like 1 Share |

pak: You still got it wrong, what if I just wanted to prove a point to them? Can't someone try to prove a point again? Or must it always be about building on the strides of previous achievements or providing solutions in the best and most efficient way not about proving a point? I just needed to see stuffs built from scratch in Nigeria/Africa and it seems you misunderstand what "Building from scratch" means. It does not mean you build hardware, Operating system and then the software itself and if possible the programming language. Check what building from scratch is again. With your understanding of scratch, maybe Facebook should have started with its own browser before the facebookcom website. Go Troll someone else please |

abubaka101: Things aren't truly created from scratch, True. But in our field, we create from scratch if you started the project from creating textfiles with majority of the script your own and not customising a public project to suit you. So, things are created from scratch. Some web designers build from scratch, some programmers do too. But maybe if I just installed wordpress site for you and customised it, I did not build from scratch |

akigbemaru:I know a site built from scratch and it provides good service. 1 is , another is ogavenue.com.ng They could be copycat but they built from scratch and we have the technology. The only problem could be starting a business from the internet without adequate fund, which the government and investors ain't helping us with |

Porthable:We have done enough, but again the point is building from scratch. And also, that we should focus on fighting poverty and creating an environment where our children can innovate, not us. And to add to it, nairaland wasn't built from scratch (with all due respect) |

koyyess: You are right, but just like what we are debating here, that truly Nigerians can build from scratch. Some people think building from scratch starts from developing the hardware and then going forward to develop an OS and then the software. Some do not understand fully that you can build from scratch by not trying to customise an already existing app like BBPress or Simple Machine Forum, but taking up a project of developing it from grassroot which is merely designing and programming without a bit knowledge of hardware. And as a result, they believe that we cannot build from scratch. So, you are right again, but there are tech-savvy people here too who don't give a damn about Tonto Dike or Kim Kardashian. They are just enough to sustain this thread |

AZeD1:Create, read, update and delete is just basics, but maybe I didn't need to give more details. Data manipulation is just what Facebook does to the input you feed to them to connect you better. Maybe you have never been challenged before and know what it's like to work with big data. For your info, we have over a billion routes so if you can do anything magical besides CRUD and manipulation of the data, let me know. With Examples!!! |

KpStone: Yeah sure, no bad feelings about what was said there. It's just like in losing a debate, the whole point would just be to discover points from both sides, and in this case maybe to discover more Made in Nigeria stuffs built from scratch. If you checked my post, you would notice that I said, "as true as what they said might be!" So, I'm trying to prove them wrong, but no energy focused in there so much to distract me. Thanks 1 Like |

naijainfogalery: Yeah, building from scratch can be time-consuming and like re-inventing the wheel. But some things should be built from scratch. For example, a Nairaland built from scratch will give room for greater flexibility and upgrade, not depending only on the mods made available by the SMF (Simple Machine Forum) contributors. Look at Twitter, between when it was launched and now, it has changed a lot. Same with Facebook. Can you imagine what would have happened if they chose a micro-blogging software or a forum software to install. But the point of scratch is just to see if we have nice stuffs built from scratch, not about the merits and the demerits |

proxy23:Well, your view of Php is too narrow. It can do more than you think. With advanced knowledge of PHP, you can schedule antivirus scans. But I only raised that if you were serious about the initial topic of implementation of system management. But as per CMS, it's just a basic system I've done whole hell of alot times. But why do that when you have Wordpress? Unless you are building something different anyway. When I asked for projects, I didn't say I write prose or essay, unless you meant code, and I'm of the opinion that Coding is the new way of writing. Sorry if I got you confused |

proxy23: Well, I have done more than content management systems. Of course I know what that means, but what you said before was: implementation of system management, not content management. And adding using PHP, I was wondering how you could use php to schedule antivirus scans, backups, shutdown, booting and so on, on a wider scale in a networked systems. Though possible, but I'm not sure if that's kinda what you meant |

Can you imagine, I saw a post on radar.techcabal.com claiming that Nigerian/African programmers haven't reached a stage where they can create technologies that can change the world, because they need to fight poverty first to create an enabling environment for our children to create the technology. " I think that the current generation of developers will not save Africa. The ecosystem is too nascent to support much beyond transactional initiatives that allow them live from day to day. Remember Maslow's hierarchy? Hard to innovate when there's food and shelter and school fees to be paid." “We have those who call themselves developers but can’t build anything from [the] ground-up [on their own]. They are just masters at combining a couple of hand-picked modules to get a product,” http://radar.techcabal.com/t/where-are-africa-s-developers/166/6 That said, and as true as it is, it only means that our hope rests on our children and that we can only focus on fighting poverty. Wow! Well, we can be creative and we can build from scratch, and I think most Africans have built from scratch. Now, I need anyone who has built something from scratch to prove those guys wrong and post whatever they built and are proud of, even if the marketing has been poor and discouraging. I will start by posting mine. RoadPad is a simple webapp that you can log on to, type a take-off city (e.g Abuja) and then a destination city (e.g Lagos) and it will show you every transport operator (those already added to the system) so that you can do any of the following: 1) Just get information from the page about their operation 2) Query them about anything 3) Write or read a review 4) Book directly from their. You can see a sample here http://roadpad.com/route/6 or just search your own here http://roadpad.com/ So, Africa and Nigeria can build from scratch... I also have other projects but posting more than one could constitute spamming, so let's just stick to one. Looking forward to your 12 Likes 3 Shares

I'm a professional PHP developer and web designer, with many projects to show for. Thing is, projects usually clash with school since this year. Just finished my exams and have about a month before my finals. I need projects and can't find any now that I'm free. Does anyone have a project to share with or offer to a freelancer like me? Whatsapp or call 07032628111 and I will be thankful |
