nelsonjay:
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Thursday vowed to investigate the National leader of the All Progressives Congress Bola Tinubu over the bullion vans that drove into his home in February

Although the EFCC has declined comments about whether it had launched an investigation to find out how former Lagos governor, Bola Tinubu, came about the bullion vans that drove into his home in February.

Nigerians have mounted pressure on the anti-graft office to open money laundering probe against Mr Tinubu, after the ruling party chieftain was seen on February 22 receiving at least two armoured vehicles believed to be bearing cash.
The development raised controversies because it came a day to the presidential election on February 23.

Mr Tinubu is a senior leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), and a strong ally of President Muhammadu Buhari, who was seeking reelection at the time.

Critics said there was no doubt the vehicles were conveying cash to bribe voters with, especially since such trucks are used in Nigeria almost exclusively to convey cash by banks, government institutions and cash-in-transit firms.

State001:
Former Vice-President and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has explained his decision to request that the President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa, withdraws from the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal.

Igbere TV reports that Abubakar and his party, PDP, are challenging the victory of President Muhammadu Buhari in the February 23 presidential election. They asked Justice Bulkachuwa to withdraw from the five-member panel she headed. They based their demand on Bulkachuwa’s relationship with an APC leader. Igbere TV gathered that her husband is a Bauchi Senator-elect on the APC platform.

On Wednesday, the Tribunal ruled against Abubakar and the PDP. It said both parties could not prove the possibility of bias against the judge and that Justice Bulkachuwa’s husband was not a party to the suit.

Despite the ruling of the Tribunal, however, Bulkachuwa refused herself from the panel on ‘personal grounds.’

In a statement sent to Igbere TV Thursday morning, Abubakar said his “legal team’s objection was not a reflection on Justice Bulkachuwa’s character or competence.”

“As a matter of fact, I have great respect for her, being a pioneer and advocate for gender equality and female empowerment,” he said.

Full Statement,

“One of the principal maxims of the Common Law is nemo judex in causa sua (no man shall be a judge in his own case). The call by my legal team for Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa to recuse herself from the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal was predicated on this principle, being that her husband, Alhaji Mohammed Bulkachuwa, is an All Progressives Congress Senator-elect and the case she was expected to adjudicate upon had a bearing on that party.

“My legal team’s objection was not a reflection on Justice Bulkachuwa’s character or competence. As a matter of fact, I have great respect for her, being a pioneer and advocate for gender equality and female empowerment.

“It is with this in mind that I commend Justice Bulkachuwa for recusing herself from the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal Panel hearing my petition against the Independent National Electoral Commission and the Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, President Muhammadu Buhari.

“Her action showed courage and is an act of patriotism. She has, by this action, increased the confidence the public have for the judiciary.

“Not only do I commend her, I also pray, especially in this holy month of Ramadan, that Justice will be done by the tribunal according to the fear of God and not in keeping with respect for the powers that be.

“May God bless the judiciary and may God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

fratermathy:
I came across this laughable plea from IPOB online and as an Urhobo, I found it laughable and delusional. I'll express my sentiments under the post.

My issues with this delusional plea include:

1. The writer couldn't even spell Urhobo well. What he spelt was Uhrobo, not Urhobo. I have met several Igbos lash on others who dared to omit the "g" in Igbo and spelt as Ibo. The fact that someone or a group that supposedly means us well do not even know how to spell the name of our ethnicity is definitely laughable.

2. Urhobos/Isokos HAVE NEVER been a part of Biafra at any point. In 1967, Urhobo/Isokoland was in Nigeria's Mid-West State (previously in the Western Region) and anyone who knows the history of the war well enough knows that the Mid-West was never part of Ojukwu's short-lived Biafra. In fact, the Biafran troops massacred a lot of Mid-Westerners, including Urhobo/Isokos, when they invaded Benin (only Igbos were spared).

3. In the current resurgence for Biafra, Urhobo/Isokos have always maintained their stand. Our apex socio-cultural unions, UPU and IDU, have stated emphatically that we do not want Biafra. We are not Biafrans. We do not want to be Biafrans! This cannot be overemphasised. Apart from our apex groups, many of us have rejected the Biafran cause in the numerous Urhobo-Isoko groups on the social media.

4. Urhobo/Isokos have never been sympathetic to the Igbo cause in any way. In fact, quite the opposite, we have maintained our independence and tilted more towards the West. The average Urhobo man is more at home with a Yoruba than with an Igbo. This doesn't mean we hate Igbos but we simply have more sympathy with our Edoid/Yoruboid kins. This explains the presence of many itinerant and settler Urhobos in Yorubaland, as opposed to Igboland where Urhobo/Isokos hardly venture to. How then can we share a country with people we have no historical, political or cultural ties with? Any Urhobo/Isoko that may be sympathetic to the Biafran cause does so at the personal level and represents his own interest. The voice of Urhobo/Isoko collective interest has been made known already.

5. Urhobos WILL NOT sit at home and do nothing because IPOB asked us to or because Igbos are doing so. It will NEVER happen, today or anytime soon. Such a plea is useless and antithetical to the Biafran cause. Biafrans should aim for an Igboid country and leave Edoid/Yoruboid groups out of it. Urhobo/Isoko is Edoid. Itsekiri is Yoruboid. Even the Western Ijaws which have always been with us tilt more towards the West than anywhere else. How can you want so many dissimilar groups in your "utopia"? Won't it amount to creating another Nigeria when you "drag" uninterested groups to your cause?

I need not tell the writer, IPOB and any Igbo who cares to hear what the answer to this plea would be. The response is not farfetched. Ihwo r'Urhobo guoni Biafra a! Urhobo people are not Biafrans! We may be fed up with Nigeria but we can never leave the devil for the deep blue sea. Igbo is a majority ethnic group in Nigeria and as such contributes to the plights faced by minorities such as Urhobo/Isoko. The Igbo should not absolve itself from the "parasite" status! As far as minorities are concerned, all majority ethnic groups are a threat. Some are much more than some. In this case, Igbos have never done anything for Urhobo/Isokos to trust its motives. IPOB should stop adding us to its agenda or else it'll attract more insults to itself and the Igbo ethnicity. A word is enough for the wise!

Ihwo r'Urhobo v'Isoko, ke mavor owa mlo ota na vwa? Oshe phiyor? Biko vwa me ji tota kparemu me tare na!

*COURT ASKED TO BAR GBAJIAGBMILA FROM CONTESTING REPS SPEAKERSHIP OVER ALLEGED CONVICTION BY US COURT*

The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, was, on Wednesday, urged to bar a top contender of the Speakership of the 9th House of Representatives, *Hon Femi Gbajabiamila* from going ahead with his ambition.
It was also explained that the ground for the legal position against Gbajabiamila was because he was allegedly convicted by a United State of America Supreme Court for *fraud*.
The court was specifically asked not to allow the lawmaker to stand for the Speakership election, having been convicted for fraud to the of *$25,000* in which he allegedly failed to disburse to his then client in 2003 in US, where he was practising as a lawyer.
The plaintiff in the matter, *Philip Undie* joined alongside Gbajabiamila, House of Representatives, Attorney General of the Federation and the All Progressive Congress as defendants in suit.

In an Originating Summons marked *FHC/ABJ/C/538/2019* brought pursuant to Order 3, Rule 6 and 7 of the Federal High Court and Section 66 of the 1999 Constitution as emended, the plaintiff wanted the court to determine whether upon the construction of Section 66 of the 1999 Constitution and the judgement of the Supreme Court of the State of Georgia, Atlanta, USA in Suit no. SO6YO829, IN THE MATTER OF FEMI GBAJA, was a fit and proper person to be elected to the House of Representatives and to the Office of the Speaker of the House.
The plaintiff, therefore, prayed the court for an order of injunction restraining the House of Representatives and APC from accepting the nomination of Gbajabiamila as an aspirant for the office of the Speaker of the House of Representatives.
He is also praying the court for an order of injunction stopping Gbajabiamila from parading himself as a member of the House of Representatives and also an aspirant for the office of the Speaker of the House.
Similarly, Undie who claimed to be a taxpayer in Nigeria is further seeking for another order of injunction restraining the House of Representatives, AGF and APC from recognising Gbajabiamila as a member of the House and as an aspirant to the Speakership of House of Representatives.
The suit filed by Ayodele Justice on behalf of the plaintiff is, however, yet to be assigned to any judge.
In a 25 paragraph affidavit in support of the Originating Summons and deposed to Plaintiff himself averred that few days ago, information came to the public domain that Gbajabiamila was contesting and indeed a leading candidate to the Office of Speaker of the House of Representatives in the 9th National Assembly , having been endorsed by the NWC of APC.
He further averred that upon the information , he deemed it proper to carry out a background check on the leading candidates for the position if Speaker of the House and that in the process, he discovered that Gbajabiamila is a lawyer and had practiced in the USA, particularly, in the state of Georgia.
The affidavit further reads in part, “that upon further enquiry, I discovered that the first defendant was convicted and sentenced for fraud and dishonesty in relation to the sum of *$25, 000* belonging to a then client of the first defendant for 36 months.
“A certified true copy of the judgement of Supreme Court of Georgia to that effect issued by Theresa Tee Barnes, Clerk of the said Supreme Court of Georgia, on 12th day if June, 2015 is hereby attached and marked exhibit A.
“That the judgement was delivered by the full panel of the Supreme Court of the State of Georgia, comprising of the Chief Justice of the State of Georgia, Honorable Justice Hugh P. Thompson, Hon. Justice P. Harris Hines, Hon Justice Robert Benham, Hon. Justice Carol W Hunstein, Hon. Justice Harold D. Melton, Hon. Justice David E. Nahmias and Hon. Justice Keith R. Blackwell, on 26th day of February , 2007.
“That it was stated judgement in the said judgement that the first defendant admits violating Rule 1.15(1) of Georgia Rules of Professional Conduct set forth in Bar Rule 4-102 (d) is pleaded.
“That the first defendant accepted the imposition of a sentence of suspension up to 36 months as a punishment for fraud and dishonest in relation to the said $25 ,000 and that he also admitted that he accepted payment of $25,000 as settlement of a client personal injury cliams , deposited in his Attorney Trust Account in January , 2003 but failed to disburse same to the client”.
The plaintiff, therefore, prayed the court to declare that Gbajabiamila is unfit and not the proper person to be elected as a member of the House of Representatives and as Speaker of the house.

Saraki is not going to be the first senate president to be impeached and I doubt if he is going to be the last, but definitely he will be impeached according to law and to democratic norms-Adams Oshiomhole, August 2018

When he defied the leadership of his then party, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) by contesting and winning the Senate Presidency position of the 8th National Assembly, many thought Bukola Saraki will not last six months as the number three man in the current administration. But today, against all odds, Saraki will be completing his tenure in June when a new set of leaders will be elected.

While some of the APC senators, including Ahmad Lawan, the APC’s preferred candidate chose to abandoned the inauguration of the National Assembly for a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the International Conference Centre which is several kilometres away from the National Assembly at the time of the sitting, Saraki, with the support of senators elected on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and some of his colleagues in the ruling party joined forces which led to his emergence.

He was nominated by Sani Yarima, former governor of Zamfara state while Dino Melaye, senator representing Kogi West senatorial district , seconded his nomination.

Following his election and Yakubu Dogara as Speaker of the House of Representatives who defeated APC’s preferred candidate, Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, then APC national chairman wrote to Saraki and Dogara, stating the party’s position on principal officers for the eighth National Assembly.

The letter to Saraki, reads: “Please find below for your necessary action names of principal officers approved by the party, after excessive consultations for the 8th Senate as follows: Senator Ahmed Lawan (Majority Leader)–North-East; Prof. Sola Adeyeye( Chief Whip)–South-West; Sen. George Akume (Deputy Majority Leader)—North-Central; and Sen. Abu Ibrahim(Deputy Chief Whip)—North-West.

After what appears to be a truce, Saraki yielded to the party and replaced Senator Ali Ndume with Lawan as the majority leader. While the likes of Oyegun were happy with the development, others within the party vow that the only way to achieve peace was for Saraki to vacate his position.

Saraki had hardly settled down to his new role when he was dragged to the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT ) by the Federal Government on an 18-count charge bordering on false assets declaration ranging from anticipatory declaration to falsification of assets by the Code of Conduct Bureau, which covers his tenure as Governor of Kwara State. He was also accused by the Justice Danladi Umar-led CCT of operating foreign accounts as a Governor and Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

It was the first time a Senate President will be standing trial on corruption charges, since the inception of the 4th republic of the democratic dispensation in Nigeria and many believed that it was a politically-motivated trial aimed at getting Saraki out for exercising his right to contest for political position in a National Assembly that is constituently believed to be an independent arm of government.

Apparently, the aim of those behind the trial was that while Saraki’s trial was ongoing, the other 108 senators will begin a jostle for his seat and may subsequently impeach him if he fails to resign. However, they were shocked as majority of the senators abandoned their legislative duties and thronged the venue of the tribunal to show solidarity with Saraki. It was also gathered that even APC senators who couldn’t accompany him for fear of being victimised sent him text messages assuring him of success at the end. After almost two years of legal battle, the tribunal in June 2017 discharged and acquitted him of all the charges.

Following the expiration of the tenure of Oyegun, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, former governor of Edo state was appointed as the national chairman of the ruling party and one of his first assignment was to get Saraki out at all cost.

Saraki later defected to his original party, the PDP, a decision which further infuriated Oshiomhole who vowed that having left the party with the majority (APC), Saraki cannot continue as Senate President.

“Once you lose the majority, without further ado, you step down. Let me restate that we cannot be subjected to minority rule in the Nigerian Senate and, therefore, whether it is convenient for Distinguished Senator Saraki or not, the truth is whether by morality or by law or by convention, Senator Saraki can only avoid impeachment by toeing the path of honour, step down so that the APC can take over the leadership of the House.

“I want to repeat, Sen. Saraki as President of the Senate will be lawfully and democratically impeached. It will not be illegally done. It will be done according to law and tradition” Oshiomhole said.

Oshiomhole: Hunter Becomes The Hunted

While Oshiomhole was plotting Saraki’s removal, little did he realise that his actions and inactions, especially on the fall-out of the primaries of the APC will almost cost him his position as the national chairman of APC.

Some key stakeholders in the party had accused him of collecting bribes to favour particular aspirants in the primaries and wrote petitions against him. The petitions, in which Oshiomhole was accused of alleged bribery and manipulation were sent to the DSS, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Presidency.

Oshiomhole was also accused of usurping the functions of the APC National Working Committee (NWC), by relocating from the national headquarters of the party at 40 Blantyre Cres, Wuse 2, Abuja to his personal campaign secretariat at Asokoro, Abuja and delayed the appointment of screening and primary election committees for the states, among others.

The aggrieved stakeholders later invited the Department of State Services (DSS) who grilled Oshiomhole for eight hours and asked him to resign his position. The embattled former Labour leader, however, stood his ground and rebuffed the pressure mounted on him to resign.

Speaking on his ordeal, Oshiomhole who spoke with editors in Lagos said “It was not an arrest or detention. The conversation centered around APC primaries. The question now is whether or not it is the DSS job to interfere in a political party’s issues. And if there’s an allegation of corruption, it is the responsibility of EFCC and ICPC.”

After he was left off the hook, Oshiomhole has never broached the issue of Saraki’s removal again. He however threatened that Saraki will not be returning to the Senate again as he will be defeated in the 2019 general elections.

Speaking on Saraki’s tenure and his defeat in the Kwara senatorial election , Olawale Olaleye, a journalist and public affairs analyst said ”His defeat in Kwara was no doubt orchestrated, and executed from a place higher than those who claimed the victory locally, even when a majority of them can hardly muster their households to the poll. Whilst many of those angling for his exit would pass as mere e-rats, others were elites, who sat in the comfort of their homes in different parts of the world and watched their prayers answered”.

“That he is finishing good, both as a senator and the Senate President with more achievements and walking away with the trophy as the leader of Nigeria’s most productive senate, the invaders can have their days for now, Saraki definitely will bounce back even to the shudder of the hypocrites, who think he is their problem, when indeed, they had always contributed their quota to the collective challenge in Kwara. But for now, it is okay to pay the price of daring to be different”.

The Alliance for Democracy, AD, has approached the Lagos State decision court to stop the introduction of the senator race, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

Promotion's governorship hopeful in the simply finish up decision in the state, Owolabi Salis clarified that Sanwo-Olu's introduction ought to be ceased on the grounds that the senator choose was in a poor perspective.

In an announcement, Salis affirmed that Sanwo-Olu assigned his gathering, the All Progressives Congress, APC, as his appointee senator on his INEC structure as against Babafemi Hazmat.

Salis likewise blamed the senator choose for utilizing a phony card peruser amid the simply finished up decision.

The announcement peruses: "Shockingly, Babajide Sanwo-Olu designated APC, an association, as his delegate senator in his INEC structure as opposed to assigning Babafemi Hazmat, a person.

"Sanwo-Olu voter's card number is BBBBBBBBBB295797059 said to be enrolled in Lagos. This present voter's card is demonstrating invalid order on Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) voters status confirmation framework which any Nigerian can cross check it.

"We are associating unlawful attack with INEC enrollment framework. Sanwo-Olu might not have enrolled to cast a ballot but rather this was pirated into the INEC framework.

"For IT specialists, you can pirate in information yet explicit distinguishing proof numbers are in every case truly incomprehensible; while the name is being carried in, the VIN recognizable proof number proved unable. That is our conceivable finding requiring the lawyer general and other security offices consideration now. We will ask the council to focus on this."
