Smaade: Femi Gbajabiamila, immediate past Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, beat all odds to emerge the Speaker of the House, an office he also ran for in 2015, but lost to the immediate past Speaker, Yakubu Dogara.
He is to be assisted by Hon Ahmed Idris Wase, who was elected unopposed, as the Deputy Speaker. Both men are from Lagos and Plateau states respectively.
Even though both men were their party's endorsed and officially backed candidate, it did not stop Hon Mohammed Bagu from challenging him to the Speakership office.
Even though Gbajabiamila won with a landslide, securing 282 votes out of the 358 votes cast, the road to that victory was rough.
To win, Gbaja, as he is fondly called, fought off serious allegations of perjury, misconduct and of, having been convicted in Georgia, USA.

Chief Olabode George, a former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday advised Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, former Lagos State governor to forget about his presidential ambition in 2023.
Speaking in an interview with Daily Independent, George said Tinubu’s performance during his tenure as Lagos State governor shows he is not qualified to lead Nigeria as a country.
He also said despite tge fact that they are both Lagosians, he will not vote for Tinubu if decides to go ahead with his inordinate ambition.
” How can Tinubu govern Nigeria? Did he govern Lagos? He should know his limits. Personally, I won’t vote for him if he decides to contest”.
“That doesn’t imply there is quarrel between us. It is just my personal opinion. I will advise him to just remain where he is because if he overreaches himself, he will bear the consequences alone ” he said. https://www.independent.ng/2023-tinubu-not-qualified-to-become-nigerias-president-bode-george/ |

IgbereBlog: The Senator representing Borno South, Ali Ndume, has again, vowed not to step down for any candidate in his quest to be the Senate President of the incoming Ninth National Assembly, Igbere TV reports.
He said he was going to contest on the Floor of the Senate on June 11, despite the endorsement of Senator Ahmed Lawan by his party, the All Progressives Congress, APC.
He was reacting to the the withdrawal of Senator Danjuma Goje (APC, Gombe) from the Senate Presidency race.
Igbere TV had reported that, Goje, Chairman of Senate Committee on Appropriations, on Thursday said he was stepping down to support Senate Leader Ahmad Lawan for the position.
Goje’s decision to step down came after a closed-door meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the presidential villa, Abuja.
Speaking with journalists on Thursday in Abuja, Ndume said he had no reason to visit President Buhari at the villa in order to step down for Senator Ahmad Lawan, who is the candidate of the APC for the position.
The former Senate leader also dismissed a social media report that he was invited to the Villa by Buhari who directed him to stop his aspiration to contest for the Senate President position.
He said, “Nobody has invited me to the Villa. There won’t be cause for it. My quest to contest the Senate President election Insha Allah on Tuesday next week stands.”
The election of the Ninth Assembly leadership is expected to take place at the first session of the House on Tuesday, June 11, reports Igbere TV.

Besti46: A Senator from Ebonyi State, Obinna Ogba, on Thursday, likened the Senate President, Bukola Saraki to late Nigeria’s military dictator, Gen Sani Abacha. Ogba, who is a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, said Saraki and Abacha shared a similar trait of being kind to others.
Speaking during the Senate’s valedictory session in Abuja, the lawmaker insisted that Nigeria never experienced the level of insecurity being witnessed under Abacha. According to Ogba: “I will liken Saraki leadership to that of Abacha. He is just like Abacha. I am one of those who believe that many people can say what they like, but Sani Abacha is a president that we have never seen. You may love him, and you may not like him.
“Abacha is a perfect man, no matter what they are saying about him. People who are condemning him today are doing worse things. During Abacha time, we didn’t have security problems like this. The man did and so many good things. “Wherever the man is, God will continue to bless him. He is the one that gave us Ebonyi state. God will continue to bless him and you too (Saraki). “In this chamber, you find the good, the bad, and the ugly, but Nigeria is represented here.
“What I noticed in this 8th assembly is that there are people who do not see anything good except in their zones. We are not supposed to belong to any political party, zones, or religion here. “The earlier we changed that attitude, and it will be better for this country. Mr. President, I want to thank the leadership of the Senate.”
