It's funny how you guys keep saying people claiming to be from South South ,what makes you think that there are no Niger Delta people on Nairaland? The Niger Delta people know very well that Igbos should never be trusted and will never go with your Biafra, we also know that if you were not landlocked and we did not have oil Igbo people would never have invited us into their so called Biafra. Let me ask you something, let's say Akwa Ibom State where I come from decide to join your useless Biafra, what will we gain from that? What do the Igbos bring to the table,we have oil, what do you have? You have nothing but the dream to use our oil to develop your Igbo communities. We don't need you,you need us. Please form your Igbo Biafra and leave us out of your nonsense. Ndisime ndito uneghe. I must emphasize that I am Ibibio not Yoruba. |
Politics › Re: Igbos In Akwaibom: Lessons Learned by Ekpeitit(m): 8:55am On Oct 05, 2019 |
selemempe: The need for Biafra cannot be over emphasized. First of all, Nigeria is the only country in the world with three major tribes and a 50/50 Christian and Muslim population. That is our major bane and has made national cohesion and integration impossible till tomorrow. Infant, Nigeria is the only country without a national culture or ideology.
However, the call for Biafra has made the Igbos seem weak in the midst of our close neighbours and allies the south south. Everyday we see someone claiming south south, opening a thread and either dissociating their tribe from Biafra or starting an insult against Igbos because of the believe of pro one Nigerians that without south south Biafra is dead.
Is that true? Let's look at the map of Nigeria again https://d2071andvip0wj.cloudfront.net/styles/image_medium/s3/component/image/nigeria-biafra-map-3dec15.png?itok=vFwPplnn The south east is surrounded by Nigeria on all sides but it can stand as a country on its own. Estwatini is doing great inside south Africa
https://www.countryreports.org/cdn_image/exW_1200/images/maps/en/wz/wz-area.gif
Estwatini is doing better in terms of quality of life and infrastructure than Nigeria. South east has a port in Onitsha and assess to river in Abia. There is oil and gas in Anambra, imo and Abia. There is still coal in Enugu.
If going forward, the south south folks refuse to unite with us who has never done anything against their interest then we must cut them lose or forget about Biafra. Afonjas or no Afonjas, truth is that the South south has not done enough to show they are friends of the Igbos. Enemies can only sow the seed of discord where the ground is fertile. After backing GEJ in 2015 and being hated by the north for it, did it stop Asari Dokubo from calling Igbo ijaw slavé?
How long do we keep lying to ourselves about the reality of our relationship with the south south? What have we ever gained from these people? The civil war was caused by a south south man, but it was us in the south east that paid for it. The abandoned property saga was not done anywhere else except the south south.
We accept the ibibios in Abia but the ibibios will not accept and respect the Igbos in Akwaibom. We accept the Igala in Anambra but they won't accept the Igbos in kogi or Benue. We accept the cross river tribes in ebonyi, but the cross riverians will not accept the Igbos in cross river.
How long do we play big brother to rude people? The south south should either start acting like dependable allies of Igbos or get cut off. Right now the Igbos seem not to have allies, better that than a fake ally who gives nothing but takes everything, including our dignity.
We must not live in a bubble. Reality is real. |

Yahman1: I created this thread to inform and not misinformed, now there is a heated argument online about ibos in Akwaibom state. As u can see in the map attached bellow, Akwaibom is bordered by two IBO states, Abia and IMO, in Ika LGA which is closer to IMO state it's natural to have IBO communites there as well as in Local governments close to abia and vice versa, that these ibos were carved into Akwaibom in the process of state creation doesn't make them own AKS, they are aware and have been living peacefully with Akwaibomites, my annoyance is how the ignorant ibos online rush to claim Akwaibom even stating IBO language as a major language in Akwaibom, Akwa abasi ibom has different tribes the major ones being Ibibio, Annang, Oron and Eket, there are other sub groups which have their own dialect of which IBO is not among. even in the state political structure power is rotated between the three major tribes, former Governor obong Victor Attah is of the Ibibio tribe, next was Governor God's will Akpabio of the Annang tribe then came Governor Udom Emmanuel of the Oron tribe and the circle continues so the IBO speaking communities are not relevant in the politics of the state because they are more or less foreigners Let it be known that Akwa Abasi Ibom is not part of your useless Biafra, it might have been in the 1960s but now we Akwaibomites know better than allow ibos lay claim to our Land, our sister state is Cross river state which we were carved out from and share similar culture and language with. Its funny how these ibos think that anybody who exooses their lies is yoruba. This is the main reason yall is hated all over the country always trying to claim where u dont own as yours, with this rate maybe y'all will claim that u own Crossriver state and Cameroon Finally a word to fellow Akwaibomites: Ndito Akwaibom eku yak mbon uneghe mi ayip isong nyin, edoho by force ndi do Biafra, mmo ekid yin nte ayen ufok mmo and ndiseme ado ana atire. Note that I will not reply anyone of you as my message has been passed to Ndito Akwaibom so u ibos can have a field day typing all u want it doesn't change the fact that Akwaibom State is not part of your Biafra. |

Binikingdowm: Very true
I don't blame south Africa one bit for not wanting Nigerians in their country, we've nothing to offer them except selling and importing drugs, prostitution, trafficking etc. Nigerians turn a developing town into slums and avoid paying taxes.
We scam and disobey orders while we claim we are "smart and wise". We disrespected their country and their value, they can't entertain our behaviour any longer that's why they want Nigerians out.
Nigerians have the worst electricity distribution, no roads,no jobs, schools are bad, government killing us with taxes yet we are defending buhari, obasanjo, okorocha, kalu, oshiohmole, tinubu, jonathan and many other looters.
Well south Africa, Kenya, rwanda and even Ghana now is a lot better than this wasteland called a country, better leave south Africa for sane humans to hold their leaders accountable.
Since Nigerians are cursed and every single country want them out, with all the oil money and vast resources but nothing to show for it. |

chrysora: President Muhammadu Buhari Friday in Pretoria, South Africa, advised all Nigerians in The Diaspora to always remember their country with skills, resources and talents, and work towards living decent and dignified lives that bring honour to their fatherland.
The President, who met with Nigerians in South Africa, charged them to be diligent, focused and resourceful in all their engagements, especially in improving their net worth through learning new skills, good education and building their networks positively.
“First, you are our Ambassadors and the face of our country to the world wherever you are. The world is therefore, watching you and would make judgments on Nigeria based on your comportment and actions.
“Second, in whatever legitimate engagement you find yourself, you must strive to excel and be the best.
“Third, while you are out in the Diaspora, do not forget home. You represent some of the best human asset that Nigeria has. With your education and exposure to the world, you are at the cutting edge of technology.
“I, therefore , urge you to use your resources, skills and talents to help the development of Nigeria,’’ he said.
President Buhari told the gathering, which included students, traders, medical doctors, clerics and academics, that an agency had been established by the Federal Government, headed by Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, to guide them on how to actualize their contributions to the country.
The President said he was shocked at the outbreak of xenophobic attacks on Nigerians in South Africa.
“The recent acts of xenophobic attacks on our compatriots and other Africans in South Africa are shocking to me, Nigerians and indeed Africa.
“It was an embarrassment to the continent. Let me again use this medium to condole with the families of all those who lost their lives over the years in such tragic incidents. May their souls rest in peace,’’ he added.
President Buhari also commiserated with those who were injured, praying for their quick recovery, and sympathized with those who lost property and other valuables.
“As a government, we are quite disturbed by these very unfortunate events and have taken actions and measures to address this issue and prevent their re-occurrence with the South African government.
“I had earlier directed the evacuation of Nigerians who do not feel safe to remain here. Over five hundred have returned home and are being reintegrated into their communities.
“At this juncture, I wish to express my profound gratitude to Chief Allen Onyeama, the Chairman of Air Peace Airlines, who showed compassion and patriotism by immediately offering to evacuate our Nigerian brothers and sisters who had been affected by these xenophobic attacks,’’ he said.
He assured Nigerians that the South African authorities had expressed their apologies over the incidents and resolved to take necessary steps to end the ugly trend.
“We have just inaugurated the Nigeria/South Africa Bi-National Commission at the level of Heads of State with a firm determination to further bring our two countries together in a mutually beneficial partnership. Let us therefore give peace a chance and pray we have seen the last of this ugly violence,’’ the President said.
President Buhari also called on all Nigerians to be law abiding and respect constituted authorities of other countries, urging “the few that sometimes gives us a bad name, to desist from such misdemeanours and be our good ambassadors.’’
In his remark, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, commended the President for the maturity and diplomatic tact he used in resolving the challenge with the South African government.
He said the government had put in place a mechanism to ensure that the unfortunate incidents were never repeated again.
Members of the Nigerian community thanked the President for the visit, assuring him that they will be more careful in their dealings within the country, and work towards harmony at all times.
The leaders of various communities in South Africa, led by Ben Okoli, commended Chief Onyeama, for his quick intervention, and the historic roles the Nigerian High Commissioner, Amb. Kabir Bala and Consul General, Mr Godwin Adama, played in protecting and providing for citizens.

IamAtikulate: First, Ohaobu is coined from two Igbo words Oha which means "people" and "Obi" which refers to where a King lives or first son of a large extended family receives visitors.
Second, the full name is Ohaobu Ndoki
Third, it is the most important town of the Ndoki people of Abia State.
Fourth, Ohaobu Ndoki is located in Azumili in Ukwa part of Abia
Fifth, Ndoki people speak Igbo fluently
Sixth, the former Senate President Adolphous Nwagbara is from Ndoki part of Abia
Seventh, We have Ohaobu Ndoki in Ukanafun LGA of Akwa Ibom, they speak Igbo and answer Igbo names likes Igwe, Ngozi, Okafor, Emeka, Mili, Wagbara e.t.c
Eighth, Ohaobu Ndoki in Ukanafun has never denied their Igboness and most of them trade around Opobo area within Aba, in Abia State dealing on palm oil.
Ninth, Ohaobu Ndoki in Akwa Ibom are marginalized though the government is addressing the injustices.
Tenth, below are few newspaper extract that shows we have Ohaobu Ndoki in Akwa Ibom State
Again:
Finally:
HONOURABLE MENTION Obuagu (Heart of a Lion) is another Igbo community in Akwa Ibom, was caved out of the present Obuagu community in Ebonyi.
Anyway, that is a topic for another day.
Enemies of Ndi Igbo, stay away from Igboland. No room for land grabbing, we will defend Igboland even if it is an inch with our blood.
Ndoki and Akwaette gives us direct access to the Atlantic Ocean from Abia.
So enemies of Ndi Igbo who grows everyday by shouting "Igboland is landlocked" are seeking for ways to grab those God-given beautiful lands.

Frankdoz5: Social Thought: MR. Olusegun Mathew Okikiola Aremu Obasanjo, GCFR, Ph.D. Speaks out on the Igbo Question
“Unfolding why Igbo are ahead of other tribes in Nigeria Former President of Nigeria, Chief Obasanjo has revealed reasons why Igbos are ahead of other tribes in Nigeria. It will be a task impossible to actualise for the Igbos, to follow the Yoruba’s Ideology. The Igbos are more republican by nature, which is why it is very difficult for you to tame such a tribe.
From the extensive research I did on the three major tribes, I find out that the Igbos are the most westernized, most enterprising, most astute, most dynamic, most intelligent (smart), and the most technically gifted tribe found among the black race. The Hausa/Fulani and the Yorubas have limitations. But an Igbo man doesn’t see any limitations.
An average Igbo man is highly competitive, unlike the Yoruba and the Hausa/Fulani. While the Yoruba and the Hausa/Fulani had kingdoms which enabled the British to infiltrate their territories easily, the Igbos on the other hand, had what could be called Chiefdoms” autonomous Communities. These structures made it very difficult to tame the Igbos.
It took the British just 9 months to tame the North and South West but almost 30 years to be able to tame the Igbos. The British had to send a team of anthropologists to the South to understudy the Igbo because, they (the British) acknowledged they hadn’t being up against a black race with such depth and intelligence coupled with the gut to confront the whites and learn from them so, so fast.
While a Tinubu, can have unrestricted influence over the Yoruba tribe, something you can only find mostly among blacks and some poor nations on earth today, an Igbo man can never be tamed by the ideology of one man unchecked, no matter how highly placed he or she is.
That’s why the Igbos are very successful no matter where they find themselves. They don’t believe in putting limitations on their path. You can only find such similarities among the Europeans, the Americans, and developed Asian tiger nations. A Hausa/Fulani man sees Kano as his world. A Yoruba man sees Lagos as his world. An Igbo man sees the world as his Village!” |

kettykin: From humble beginnings to Queen’s right-hand man, how Ken Olisa became the most powerful black man in Britain
From humble beginnings to Queen’s right-hand man, how Ken Olisa became the most powerful black man in Britain.
For most children who grow up in single-parent homes, their future solely depends on the ethical tone at home.
If a child’s single mother or father is always moping and is unmotivated to make ends meet for the family, then the likely outcome of the child’s outlook on life is that of despair rather than hope.
The child, sometimes, has the potential to be successful but does not get the right environment to thrive in.
For Ken Olisa, his mother was a very driven woman who always expects everyone to put their best foot forward in all they do. “There was a high moral tone at home”, he said in an interview.
It took a lot of perseverance and self-motivation to get Olisa where he is. He admits his mother, teachers and community were also instrumental in his success.
He added that while in primary school, his headmaster introduced them to classical music and made them try caviar to prevent them from being intimidated by the affluent in society,
Born to a Nigerian law student and an English woman, Olisa was raised in his mother’s Nottingham home. His parents divorced and his father returned to Nigeria. He never met his father but that did not stop his single mother from providing her son with the best way she could afford at the time.
They lived in a house that had a hanging bathtub and the toilet was outside the house. “I always remember we lived in this house where you went in through the front door straight into the front room. There was an outside toilet stuck on at the back and a bath which hung on the outside wall. It doesn’t matter where you start from, it is where you want to try to get to that makes the difference,” he said to the Independent.
With an average working-class upbringing, Olisa, in November 2015, was officially named as the most powerful black person in Britain. Chosen for his work in “tackling homelessness and poverty”, Olisa topped a list of Britain’s most influential black people, a BBC report said.
He beat the likes of Sir Lenny Henry and Oscar-winning director Steve McQueen in the annual list that celebrates the achievements of African and Caribbean people in Britain, the report added.
That same year, he was appointed HM Lord-Lieutenant of Greater London, with his jurisdiction covering thirty-two boroughs excluding London itself where the Queen takes charge of.
“The title gives him an office in Whitehall, a staff of 90, and puts him in charge of all visits made by the royal family within the city – with him even standing in for them on occasion,” The Telegraph wrote in 2015.
He was knighted in the 2018 New Year’s Honours for services to business and philanthropy.
Olisa had his college education at Fitzwilliam College in Cambridge. There, he met his wife Julia and they have two grown-up daughters and grandchildren.
While at Fitzwilliam, he was the recipient of an IBM scholarship and later rose through the ranks of the same company, IBM after school. From there, everything has been uphill for him. He is now one of the most formidable businessmen in the country with a philanthropic streak to his name.
Olisa has a lot of firsts to his resume. He is the first British-born black man to serve as Director of an FTSE-100 company (Reuters), the first black master of the Worshipful Company of Information Technologists and the Lord-Deputy Director of the Institute of Directors.
He went on to establish two technology companies: Interregnum, the first technology merchant bank (Restoration Partners), and Wand.
He and his wife are well known for their philanthropy. Olisa is an advocate for social inclusion, social mobility and getting homeless people off the streets.
His unsupervised position as Lord Lieutenant gave him the liberty to engage other outfits to aid his philanthropic works. He is the President and former Chair of Thames Reach, which provides accommodation for rough sleepers and homeless people, including people with mental health or drug misuse related issues.
He is Chair of the Shaw Trust, a charity that helps to transform the lives of young people across the UK and overseas.
Olisa is also the founding Chair of the Powerlist Foundation, a charity that identifies and supports future business leaders from diverse backgrounds; a former Governor of the Peabody Trust, a body that provides housing solutions for Londoners and those in South East, and a former Non-Executive Director of the West Lambeth NHS Trust.
When asked anytime what his proudest philanthropic act is, Olisa said it was the moment he and Julia donated £2m (2 million dollars) to his Almer matter in aid of an IT library in 2011.
The library was named after him and he is more than thrilled about it. “I want to be able to enjoy what I can give back in my own lifetime and we wanted our children to see how happy it has made their parents to give away money to help strangers…I am immensely proud of the work of Thames Reach and Shaw Trust for example, but I have very little to do directly with their success, whereas the library, it’s me,” he was quoted by Philanthropy-impact.org.
On becoming a role model for people of colour, Olisa did not want to feed into stereotypes. He believed that a person’s skin colour shouldn’t be a hindrance to them achieving their goals. Now, he is fully converted about the idea and is a role model for the BAME in Britain and beyond.
An encounter with his driver helps him ease into accepting the role. “I had an epiphany a few years ago: I was being rather dismissive while on the way to chair a debate about the need for role models for young black men.
“My driver, whom I had known for several years, stopped me in my tracks. He said that he lived in Peckham and his children believed that people like them didn’t work. They dismissed their Dad’s evidence to the contrary in favour of their neighbours’ experiences.
“I sympathised and asked how things were now and he said the problem was solved – both kids were going to University. I asked what had changed their attitudes and said that he had downloaded my CV and shown it to them as proof of what was possible. I am rarely speechless, but I was then.”
This experience birthed the Aleto Foundation, a mentoring charity that provides social capital by building the confidence of young talents.
Currently the Chairman of Interswitch (Africa’s largest e-payments company), this multifaceted man believes that philanthropy is more than just giving money away.
Most people think about philanthropy as a steppingstone to fame. A lord-lieutenant does not need such leverage. Olisa says philanthropy is about “engaging rather than signing cheques”. To him, it is a means to bridge the gap between the disadvantaged and “the elite.”
Olisa ascertains the fact that there are still some good people out there who just want to see others thrive.
He said to the Telegraph “…black people can do everything. There can no longer be an argument that if you can’t get on because you are black. There are lots of other reasons you can’t get on – you’re incompetent, you can’t speak properly, you can’t spell, you don’t get to work on time. But it’s not because you are black.” |
