Travel / Re: Nigerians In Carribean Islands? by elctroguru(m): 3:23am On Mar 30, 2009
All the Caribbean Islands are cool and nice for tourists but not for residential purpose.
If you want to live there, its another game entirely. U got to be prepared to spend a huge sum of money.
Mind u, most Caribbean Islands are full of blacks. So there's is everything you see in 9ja there in terms of
crime, corruption and others.
The major diffrence btw Carib and Nigeria is that:
1) You can easily make bucks in Nigeria if you know your way.
2) They have a sys that works which is better than Nigeria in terms of tax, amenities, Job security and others .

Similarities are:
1) We are both Black
2)There's Corruption and crime there
3)They are not that rich, they mostly depend on loans whereas there's no loan for you in Nigeria if you're poor.

You can only love the Caribbean if you have a job here. BVI, USVI, Bermuda, they are all the same, Expensive like hell/heaven, lol

Nigeria is better than the Caribbean if you're a hustler.

What do you mean by repeat? Which kind Yeye school be that. I didnt pay school fees and I earned my Credits. I passed all my courses w/o any problem. So why would I retake the courses again.

Grenada?
Whats In Grenada?
Well , I jus wana let u knw that caribbean is very expensive. they dont produce anything here. Everything is is imported. They also depend on tourism. So I think Nigeria is still far more better than caribbean unless if you have a job here, then u'll be cool. But its very hard to get job here.
Nigeria is better than Caribbean. If you still insist to travel there, I'll advice you to consider USVI, BVI, Cayman Island, Bermuda and Bahamas. Don't even go near Grenada, ok,
Good Luck

Politics / U.s. Deports 60 Nigerians by elctroguru(m): 9:59pm On Mar 12, 2009
Lagos — United States of America has deported 60 Nigerians for committing various offences ranging from stealing, credit card fraud and immigration misdemeanors.

The deportees, consisting of 53 men and seven females, were brought into the country through the Murtala Mohammed International Airport , Lagos, by 2.00 p.m. yesterday, by private aircraft chartered by the American authorities.

The deportees were accompanied by law enforcement agents from the United States.

Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) source said 14 of the deportees were repatriated based on drug related offences, while others committed other immigration offences, ranging from illegal permit to fake visas.

They were received by Immigration officers, Nigerian Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and other law enforcement agencies.

The 14 drug offenders were whisked away by NDLEA officials for scrutiny, while immigration officials took those with illegal immigration papers into custody.

Those cleared of any criminal offence were transferred to the hajj camp side of the international airport, from where they were allowed to go to their homes.

According to the immigration source, the issue of deportation had been a daily recurrence at the international airport where Nigerians are regularly deported from Libya, Egypt, Italy, Rome, Europe and America.
Politics / 3000 Militants Surrender In Rivers by elctroguru(m): 9:55pm On Mar 12, 2009
Port Harcourt — Over 3000 militants have reported at the Okehi Social Development Institute established by the Rivers State government for the reformation, retraining and re-integration into normal society as a way of ending their criminal activities in the state.

Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, while commending the repentant militants for wanting to drop their "criminal habits", however warned them that any of them who had taken life must account for it.

The statement of the governor sounded like a no-general amnesty warning, as only those who have not killed before would be left to undergo reform without consequences.

"I want to tell you before the youths who are seated here, anyone who has taken life will account for the life he has taken. Those who have not taken live will be rehabilitated," he said.

He pledged to provide more funding to enable the expansion of the facility which has accommodation space for 300 people.

It will soon be improved with its capacity doubled while certain educational facilities hitherto planned for outside the institute would now be provided there.

Amaechi, who charged parents to help arrest moral decadence, blamed them for abdicating their responsibilities of disciplining their children and said because of the hard economic times, they hardly are able to control their children who turn from their responsibilities to catering for them.

According to him, the Nigerian economy was better than those of some countries who still profess and manifest honest character than Nigerians. He called for social reformation especially with the value system of the society for the desired changes to take place.

He said he was not initially convinced that the scheme would work but that seeing the level of response, he would provide more funds for better facilities, adding that whereas he used to refer to militants as criminals, he would now call those who have reported to the institute as "our children" since the failure of parental guidance may have led to the problem they found themselves in.

"I am happy that you have responded to be reformed and retrained but I will be happier if you submit your guns. In fact, the more guns you surrender, the more resources I will provide for you. There are a lot of training programmes we have and those of you who indicate interest in them will be sent for training, sometimes outside this country," he said.

He expressed regrets that people from outside the state were the beneficiaries of the construction work they have been doing in the state which meant that indigenes were either not interested in working or lacked the skills to benefit. He promised to kick-start training programme to impart the skills to them.

The governor said he was aware of the problem of falling back into criminality and has mapped out a programme to fit them back into the society where some would become employers of labour while others would be self-reliant or be employed.

A micro-credit scheme has been planned for them so that they can get the money to put into their endeavours after which they will pay back as it is not "free money" which he said he did not believe in.

He counselled them to be useful to themselves and value their lives, pointing out that Ateke Tom resettled his family in Abuja where they are safe while he sends other people's children to go and die in the name of militancy.

In his address, Chairman of the Social Rehabilitation Committee (SRC), Chief Albert Horsfall, said the approach adopted by the committee was going to solve the problem of militancy whereby the supply of able-bodied men to militant camps would stop.

He said so far, over 3000 militants had registered with them for rehabilitation, but hinted that they were going to screen them and only those who are real militants would be taken in, retrained and rehabilitated.

"We reiterate that so far, the SRC has registered approximately two thousand youths and the number may be higher now, up to three thousand. The SRC strategic programme will ensure that we take the restive youths in batches of three to six hundred (as facilities are expanded and upgraded) at a time, put them through intensive re-orientation and skills training; give them employment, resettlement and re-integrate them back to the community and within months rather than years, the militancy and youth restiveness crisis will be fully and permanently resolved," Horsfall said.

THISDAY had it on good authority that about 60 repentant militants who came from Okrika, the home base of Tom, to the camp for reformation returned angry as the facility could not take all of them which, the source said, underscores the response ratio.

Politics / Argungu Fishing Festival - Govt Bans Last Year's Winner For Life by elctroguru(m): 1:37pm On Mar 10, 2009
Birnin Kebbi — Kebbi state Government has banned the controversial winner of the last year Argungu fishing festival, Malam Bello Yau Argungu, for life for catching a dead fish.

Argungu, 35, produced the biggest fish weighing 52 kilograms to emerge the winner of the fishing event and was given a Toyota salon car.

The state Commissioner for Informatiom, Alhaji Sani Kangiwa, who confirmed the ban imposed on Argungu at a press briefing in his office yesterday, said Government took the decision to prevent other fishermen from doing the same thing during the annual event.

According to the commissioner, all fishermen that will participate in this year's event will be thoroughly searched.

Said Kangiwa: "The Government has banned last year's winner for life and he will no longer participate in any Argungu fishing event again. This measure is taken to serve as a deterrent to other fishermen."

The commissioner explained that fishermen will not be allowed to jump into the river before gun shot contrary to what happened last year when many fishermen jumped into the river before time.

He said the Emir of Argungu, Alhaji Samaila Mira, had embarked on enlightenment campaign of fishermen who will participate in the event on the need for them to be well behaved and not to embarrass the state by contravening the laid down rules.

He disclosed that the state government was planning to host and manage the festival under public- private- partnership arrangements with the ultimate aim of handing over the festival to the private sector.

Kangiwa stated that government intends to rehabilitate structures at the fishing site at the cost of N30million.

The Argungu fishing festival kicks off tomorrow, March 11, and 16 events will be featured at the festival , including tug of war, traditional wrestling/boxing, catapulting/archery, goat skinning, power bike rally, motor rally, cultural dance, kabanchi display, and the grand fishing festival to be held on Saturday.
Politics / Youths Attack Yar'adua In Jos by elctroguru(m): 1:31pm On Mar 10, 2009
Jos/Abuja — President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua's convoy was attacked by some angry youths in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State while on his way to pay a condolence visit in the palace of the late Gbong Gwom Jos, Da Victor Dung Pam, who died last Saturday at the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH).

This is the second time Mr. president convoy is being attack in Jos after his campaign train was attacked in a similar circumstances at the same route, near the Jos Central Mosque in Jos in 2007.

An eyewitness account narrated to LEADERSHIP said that as soon as the president's convoy was sighted, some youths came out in their hundreds and started throwing stones, broken battles, sticks and other dangerous weapons at the convoy, destroying the windscreens of some of the vehicles of some people in the convoy.

Some security men who had been controlling movement before the arrival of the president sustained several degrees of injury on their heads while the president's backup Jeep was badly battered.

The windscreens of the cars of the former governor of the state and pioneer National Chairman of the People's Democratic Party, Chief Solomon Lar, the state Commissioner of Finance, Mrs. Clara Ghan, and the Commissioner of Environment, Mr. Nankin Bagudu, were smashed.

A driver of one of the of the damaged vehicles said the youths of the area took everyone unawares when they suddenly appeared on the road, throwing stones and other weapons on the presidential fleet, shouting, "Thief! Thief! Thief! Go away. We don't like you!"

The president, who appeared unperturbed when he was received at the Gbong Gwom's palace, described the death of the paramount ruler as a great loss not only to Plateau State but also the nation.

According to him, the late Gbong Gwom , Da Victor Dung Pam, had served the nation tirelessly as a police officer, reaching the top echelon of his profession before he retired to come and serve his people. He said the monarch would be greatly missed by the people of Plateau State and the country as a whole.

Governor Jonah Jang of Plateau State thanked Yar'Adua for coming on time to show solidarity with the Plateau people, acknowledging that his coming to commiserate with the people showed the love he had for the people and that he was a true father of the nation.

The governor assured the president of the support of the people of the state to his administration.

Jang described the death of the late Gbong Gwom as a great loss to the state and said the vacuum would not be easily filled, considering the monumental achievements he recorded while serving his people.

Speaking in the same vein, President of the Plateau State Traditional Council and the Long Goemai of Shendam, Miskoom Hulbert Shaldas, said the late Gbong Gwom was an epitome of peace and was a source of inspiration to the council.

In his reaction, former Minister of State for Information and Communications, Alhaji Ibrahim Dasuki Nakande, said those who were said to have stoned Yar'Adua were not Muslims.

He said some sponsored thugs carried out the attack in order to give the Muslim community a bad name.

Nakande, who spoke on behalf of the Muslim community in Jos, said his people would soon pay a condolence visit to the palace of late Gbong Gwon.

Among those in the president's entourage were the National Chairman of the PDP, Prince Vincent Ogbulafor, the National Vice Chairman, North, National Secretary of the party and the Minister of State for Power.

Media Adviser to Governor Jang, Mr. Daniel Manjang, described the attack on the president as a "high sense of irresponsibility which the government would not condone."

In his words: "The government would make effort to fish out those perpertrators of this act and ensure that they are dealt with accordingly," he charged.

Meanwhile, Senators George Akume (Benue, PDP) and Satty Gogwim (Plateau, AC) have condoled Governor Jang over the death of the Gbong Gwom Jos, who died in the early morning of Saturday.

In separate letters of condolence signed by Mrs Becky Orpin for Akume, and Dalop Benshak for Gogwim, the two senators expressed shock over the demise of the traditional ruler who served for only five years on the throne.

"I received the news of the sudden death of his royal highness, Da Gbong Gwom, with pain and sadness. It is painful as it is coming at a time the monarch was working hard to restore peace in Jos following the recent crisis. As a man of peace, his contributions have been laudable in working together with the state government to bring a lasting peace to the state. I pray that the good Lord will grant the Plateau State government, the governor and the people the fortitude to bear the loss, and may his gentle soul rest in peace with the Lord', Akume said.

On his part, Gogwim said, "I could not believe the news that Da Gbong Gwom has gone to be with the Lord, especially at a time like this. I am pained by his death, and will remember him for what he stood for in the state. As the Chairman of the State Traditional Council, he discharged his responsibilities with utmost dignity, selflessness, love and the fear of God. He has carried his lieutenants along and has really helped to restore peace in the state. I sympathise with the governor, Da Jonah Jang, the Berom people and the entire Plateau State Traditional Council over this big loss, and may God grant his immediate family the fortitude to remain steadfast."

Gogwim said he personally knew the late traditional ruler since his days as a Deputy Inspector-General of Police, saying he was diligent in his work, having rose to the highest position in the force, with qualities that endeared his people to elect him to lead them as their traditional ruler. He called on the governor and the entire government to take heart.

Gbong Gwom, a retired AIG, was elected as traditional ruler in 2002 after the death of his predecessor, Da Dr Fom Bot, and since then, he had been enjoying the confidence and support of the other traditional rulers, who regarded him with high esteem. He brought the experience of policing to bear on his new responsibility, by encouraging both Christians and Muslims, especially in Jos north local government area.

His burial, which is yet to be done, will be performed in accordance with Berom traditional rites.
