Thank you for mentioning that Arabic has been in the curiculum for long, but only muslim schools do it over french. So how would you know if it has actually helped if you dont live around those that did it. I know personally those who did it and it helped them when they got jobs in Arabic speaking countries, and i dont mean religion related business like doctors, enginerrs, oil sector workers, etc

If this is your deduction from that, I give up.
I still maintain that if xtians want to be sentimental about language it should be greek & aramic. You can't make the same assertion as you would with Arabic and Islam here. But this is not the essence of this convo.

Only the new testament was written in Greek as was reported. The ones before was Aramaic and Hebrew. But to look at it critically, the original language of the Jews is Hebrew which is where Jesus, Moses and the rest originated from. That makes Hebrew of more sentimental values to Christians. But still, its just a language.

The reason people are against Arabic is because that's the language of the prophet, who was an Arab, and the language the Quran was written in. But what they fail to understand is that Arabic is still just a language. There are Arabic bibles too so what's the big deal?

Personally, I did Arabic in school and it was in no way related to religious studies. Just same as learning French, my name is this, this is a book, that is a house and stuffs like that. I would have loved to learn many more languages, I'm even interested in Hebrew but that won't make me a Jew nor will it mean adding it to our curriculum is having an ulterior motives for something else.

In Africa alone, Arabic is one of the most spoken languages, including French which is already in our curriculum and Swahili. If you want them to add more alternative, say so not shouting about an ulterior motive.

Arabic has been in our school curriculum for as long as I can remember, used to see it in a section of waec syllabus back then & for that long who honestly em don epp; if nt our lovely northern brothers. So wats the fuss. How has it helped our educational system, of all the pertinent languages to pair with french it had to be Arabic. Are we going forwards or backwards. Wouldn't it had made logical sense to add something else since Arabic has always been there. Bearing in mind our country is so fractured as can be seen on this forum why give an opening to more unnecessary sentiments and push the bigotry. Good thing u studied Arabic guess it has made your day to day activity easier.

As a side note even though I don't wanna get into it But JESUS spoke aramic, just so u know, which was the predominant language during his time & the early Christians greek, so if xtians desire to be sentimental it should be towards aramic & greek not hebrew ok. So don't try to tie xtianity to hebrew just because u r trying to make a point about the prophet it makes the comparison mute.

The difference between bible and Quran is that the Quran maintained one language while the bible didn't.

Don't need to search the old testament was translated to Greek @ about 300AD or so but the new was written In greek.
The point of this convo was not to give u a chance to be anti sememtic. Simply put the bible does not equate to hebrew language more so u will be hard pressed to see any copy of the bible in the aforementioned language. The bible as it is today was translated from Greek not hebrew. If the holy Quran wants to remain in Arabic how does dat affect the bible & what exactly is your point.

Some were also written in old Greek mainly the new testament. If some were written in aramic which became d predominant language at d time. The bulk of the old testament was written in an arcahic form of Hebrew that is no longer spoken. So if some was in Greek, how's d bible primarily a hebrew txt.

This is either ignorance or mischief or a combination of both Reno Omokri and Fani Kayode . To start with there is no subject called "Islamic Arabic studies" Arabic, which is a language is different from Islamic studies.

The new curriculum merged Civic Education, IRS, CRK and Social Studies into "Religion and National Values". Each is separately taught and Christians don't offer IRS while Muslims don't CRS except they choose to.
Also, French and Arabic were introduced as subjects, students are expected to choose one of these languages.

So of all the languages that can be readily useful they came up with Arabic as an alternative to French. Really.. I tire for some of my countrymen.

You people should cool down. Arabic studies is language studies, not religious studies. It is completely different from Islamic studies which is a religious studies. Even Christians in Arab speaking Countries conduct their Christian worship in Arabic.
