thought the op said this thread is for working class coming together to help the unemployed, why the rush by unemployed folks, have seen only very few working class peeps talk here and I know there are lots of them here on this forum, common lets give them the chance to forth and share their experiences as well as possible ways of helping the unemployed. may God bless u op and pray this produce desired results

To be sincere, that's one of the reasons opportunities elude many. The thread has now become that of graduates and undergraduates advertising themselves. They would rather not wait for the working class to meet here and offer help.

A little patience sometimes is needed.

Hmmmm, couldnt expect this from you. So you are this exposed?

Chairman, everybody's exposed one way or the other.

Sometimes we just fuss over nothing.

Sometimes 1 person makes one offend another.

What do you mean by pre-stack seismics? You mean data, if so YES. Well back in school I was taught log interpretation, nothing else

Geophysical data for the oil/gas industry falls into numerous categories. Seismic data is one of such.most of the seismic data available for student projects are POST STACK SEISMIC DATA which has limitations when it comes to interpretation procedures such as AVO (Amplitude Variation with Offset) analysis where you find PRE STACK SEISMIC DATA to be the best choice since you need to see the changes in amplitude preserved as original as possible.

Well logs will then be used in generating synthetic seismogram which will be used to compare models based on fluid substitutions as the interpreter may want. I'm interested in AVO that's why I asked you if you've got PRE STACK SEISMIC DATA.

I have lots, I mean lots of post stack seismic data and well logs too.

We'd rendezvous somewhere in Lagos. My routes are Lekki, Surulere and Ogba... Ensure you have a Laptop with at least 4Gig ram. For better performance, it could be higher and an aaddition of a good graphic card preferably Nvidia.

Quite close to me. Hopefully, we'll hook up someday soon too.

firstly, i want to appreciate ifoundmyperfect, for his philantropic tendencies. most of these materials are what you pay huge bucks to get. well done sir. Actually i'm a graduate of Phy/Electronics and am willing to peep into what you guys are doing in the 'reservoir'...lol. This thread is really empowering and i'm beginning to develop more interest. I am thinking of Msc Geophysics because of market value, i will be glad if someone can give me a material that will introduce me more to Geophysics as a beginner. My email: elwasee2000@yahoo.com

If you are in Lagos, we can hook up. You'll get stuffs you can't finish in a lifetime. Come with a hard drive. Books, data, petrel, opendtect, ALL FOR FREE.

Thanks bro, I just did HSE 1,2,3
Does courses you mention above is money, so something is needed to generate the funds to push
Please It looks like you have experience, you could advice me on how and when to go for the above skills...

I understand but not all are very expensive. I know Danvic Concepts have a one week training that cost about 35k. I know Petroplays also have a course innthat range too.

On the other hand, you can get some tutorial videos and some versions of these softwares- petrel, OpendTect, Geographix, Hampson-Russel, Geolog etc and do hands-on training. I believe with your IT skills, you wont find these too difficult. Seismic and well data abound all around. You might only need to get a suitable computer.

As a geoscientist, i believe you can make the best of whatever you can lay your hands on.

There are guys out there who are into foundation studies (geotechnics) abd they also make huge money.

Another suggestion i can make is that you align yourself with a professional body like NMGS, NAPE, AAPG, SEG etc. Having a suitable profile on linkedin is also good. This will help you network with professionals in the industry.

Most of all, be prayerful.

In addition to your IT skills, try getting skills in your academic line. E.g. petrophysical intepretation, seismic analysis, reservoir development/engineering etc. It adds value to your degree. You can also develop your IT skills in the geoscience world by gathering skills on the OCEAN platform, which is an add-on for petrel.

Just saying.

I am a Geologist currently working in the Oil and Gas sector.

The period of job search is always the most challenging and trying time for young people particularly young men.

I give Glory to God for where I am today. But each time i look back and remember all my sufferings and challenges it just seems like a dream.

Infact i almost lost relevance even in my father's house bc i had no job so i had no say.
Even when i got a job bt bc the pay was little, i still felt miserable.

But something kept me going: My high self esteem and self worth

I graduated with a 2:1 in Geology abt 12yrs ago.
I prepared my CV immediately i got my statement of result before going for NYSC. I had d hope of securing a job before finishing NYSC.
I started practising GMAT and GRE immidiately i finished project defence while awaiting NYSC.

I used the whole of NYSC period to prepare for my job search. I believed i was so good and was bubbling with high hopes and expectations Cos i was scoring very high in the practise test questions.Infact i applied for jobs during NYSC and wrote NNPC and Shell tests bt was nt succesful (my first encounter with reality on ground).

I came out of NYSC without securing any jobs unlike what i expected. I started sending cv to different companies as they advertised. I wrote Oceanic bank, Diamond bank, UBA and was nt succesful though i got to d interview stage in 2 of them.

My first ever job came as a miracle at Accessbank. I was lying down thinking abt my life when my university class mate called me to come to Accessbank Toyin street Ikeja that they are looking for adhoc staff. I arrived their in no time. I got the offer and also contacted some of my other comrades in the struggle hu also got it.

It was a 1month job.The news of my bank job spread among my extended family and church members like wild fire. Though i didnt tell them it was a 1month contract job.We were paid off at month end and i was back home and hidding from people so they wont ask y i didnt go to work.

Next day i went to visit my girl friend (my wife today). I was still in her place when i received a phone call inviting me for an aptitude test and interview at an Oil Servicng company i sent my application to abt 2 months earlier. They actually requested for minimum of 2yrs experience bt i still applied without experience. I got the job! It was my first break through.

Employed as a trainee in 2005 with a gross salary of 33K was nt so bad to start with. Banks were paying GTs 40-70K then.

I knew my worth. I knew i was worth more than that. I now limited my application to major Oil and Gas companies. I wrote Elf test, didnt scale through the test stage. I wrote Shell and got to the interview stage. I wrote NNPC and got the job. Shell put me on stand-by but no message from them till date not even a regret mail.

I still work with the NNPC till date and not regretting it.

So job seekers know ur worth, prepare well and keep pressing.

That's the spirit of a geoscientist. I was at the Chevron stand at NAPE ICE in 2012 and during the career talk, someone also shared his experience.

His best frd and himself were on the queue for a job at Chevron. His friend was next in line while he was second, then the line was scattered and someone was between him and his friend when the whole thing settled down and he was like, no problem, sebi after the 2 of them he's next.

Then the interview panel called for the next 2 people on the queue and said the interview was over. His friend got the job eventually and he had to wait for another 5 years to get a shot at getting a job in Chevron. But all the while, he stuck to the geoscience field, bore hole drilling, geotechnical surveys etc.

Bottom line, those of you in there who can mentor those outside should do it if you can.

What I don't seem to understand is that why sack people and then go out to employ another set....is it that the workers were sacked because they are not capable? Or what?

It's simple mathematics. Sack 10 people who earn 200k each, use the 2 million to employ 500 people for 40k each

[quote author=EOOJ post=30741671]I have been thinking about this for quite some time now and
felt I should hear your opinions and ideas about this
sensitive issue.

Worldly songs? When is a song called Worldly? Or are all
Worldly songs bad? I really need answers to this cause I
want to learn.

Truly, when I hear some songs and their lyrical content, wow
is my next expression because they can be bad to the core
But then again, if someone sings for peace,or about the lost
of a lost one to console mourners, nursery rhymes, national
anthem, school anthems and many others good songs I
know, I tend to wonder where to classify such or are we
going to say that they are equally bad because they are
worldly?

Please o I really need your opinions.

I would really love this debate to happen. It will expose more about Nigeria's economic position than any presidential debate.

Let those who actually run the economy speak to us.
