The government needs to take copyright laws more seriously, if possibly create copyright police or else these entertainers and writers would be poverty stricken in few years time despite their hard work.

tit: a weaker naira means that it will be cheaper to produce goods in nigeria and sell to the world! this should be an employment opportunity for hardworking people and entrepreneurs. Not really. If the cost of importing raw materials, machinery and other productiin essentilals is still high, cost of finished products may not necessarily be cheap. What will be cheap is the cost of labor. |
Jobs/Vacancies › Re: How To Identify A Scam Interview Invitation by eledacedar(f): 2:03pm On Dec 17, 2014 |
husseinhad: Scam interviews are also conducted even by government agencies. You see an advert by a government parastatal, you try to apply for the job only to discover that you have to pay into a designated bank account. To me, the only difference between Government scam and the private one is that in the latter, you only lose your money; in the former you are also at a risk of losing your life (case study: Immigration recruitment exercise). Below is the link to a nairalander's ordeal at a scam interview test conducted by University College Hospital, Ibadan.
https://www.nairaland.com/1859227/uch-recruitment-malfeasance
This was what she wrote:
After the recruitment scandal by the Immigration, one would think that other federal government parastatals would have learnt not to organise kangaroo recruitment exercises thereby putting the lives of innocent Nigerians at risk. In 2012, University College Hospital, Ibadan placed an advert in The Punch announcing vacancies for about 35 positions. It was not until I got to UCH that I discovered that I would have to pay the sum of N1,000 to obtain the application form. I did this, followed the stipulated process and and submitted the required documents including my O'Level result. I was applying for the position of Information Officer II. The sole requirement for this post was a Bachelor's Degree in English (which I have), Mass Communication or Social Sciences. I never heard anything until about few days ago.
On Tuesday, 12/08/2014, I received a text message from UCH inviting me for a test scheduled for Thursday, 14/08/2014. The text included an instruction for candidates to bring along their original credentials, 3 passport photos and the receipt of the application form purchase. I did all I could to sit for the test and I had all the requirements with me. I got to the venue about 25 minutes before 9am when the supposed exam was scheduled to start. No official of UCH attended to us until almost 3 hours later, at about 11. 35am, when we were told to gather in front of the exam hall and we would enter the hall as each person's name is called. The number of candidates who showed up for the test were less than 300, out of the thousands who paid and applied for the jobs. It was at this point that they examiners made the announcement that there are other requirements for the positions. The one for Information Officer was that candidates must have 5 credits at a sitting or 6 credits at two sittings including Mathematics and English. Out of almost 100 candidates who applied for the post of Information Officer, only about 30-35 ended up sitting for the exam. Even when we complained to the coordinator, she snubbed us and said, 'Okay, noted.' Other invigilators simply laughed at us and said the same thing.
Many of us decided not to just walk away. We went to see the Director of Administration and the Chief Medical Director to register our displeasure. None of these principal officers was around and the only officials who attended to was the Personal Assistant to the CMD, who introduced himself as Mr. Taiwo, and the Head of the Security Department of UCH, a man popularly addressed as Captain. After keeping us waiting for several minutes, the 'Captain' came back to address us and said that it was the policy of the Federal Government. He even bragged that his alma mater, University of Ibadan, requires credits in both Maths and English for admission into any course. Many of us countered this, letting him know that we have obtained degrees in the Humanities from UI without a credit in Maths at the O'level. Eventually, everyone dispersed with the painful knowledge that we have used as puppets for a 'recruitment show' that was staged with the motive of securing employments for their choice candidates.
My anger is not at them for stating 'phony policy' they claimed was made by the Federal Government. But why would they make people waste their time and money as well as risk their lives just to be played on? They already knew what they were going to do. Why didn't they just invite their own people? I met two people there who claimed that they had come from Nassarawa and Benue respectively. Some of the candidates probably borrowed the money used in transporting themselves to the venue only for their hopes to be dashed. I arrived at Ibadan at about 10pm on Wednesday, 13th of August, just to be at the exam venue early the next day. I submitted my O'level result along with other credentials. I was disqualified from sitting for the exam because I don't have a credit in Maths. If the claim was that the requirement was based on a Federal Government policy, on what criteria was I shortlisted?
I owe the world a duty to report this malfeasance. It's high time we disallowed a wicked act like this to go unnoticed. Just as this phoney honourable Tunde aka Awachi Thomson tried to squeeze 10,500 out of my pocket for NNPC job. I already told him to bugger off

That wasntye end of anything I had to do with them. In fact, if you can walk into any authorised outlet of the manufacturer of the product you want, do that and buy direct from manufacturer. After all, what will be the price difference? |

ekeroyal: Lost And Found My Stolen Phone After 7 Months
This may sound unreal to some persons but it is real and happened in Nigeria. It is about my iPhone 4S, I only bought it January 2014, a new one. The story is funny with a few lessons and inferences drawn from here and there. This is how it went.........
I lost my phone in a taxi in Port Harcourt on the 28th of April, 2014. It probably slipped out of my pocket. When I realized it, I quickly tried tracking the taxi driver but couldn't find him that evening. I waited for him around the route where he operates but couldn't find him. To make matters worst, the phone was offline as I had only returned from an island with very little Airtel signal, hence I couldn't call it. The next day I was to travel, but I couldn't go. I waited for him again around the route he operates and fortunately I found him but he simply told me, he didn't see my phone. I was crest fallen and started accepting the reality. That evening I told my better half who was far off, of my predicament and she simply said, am not convinced you lost that phone". I began to imagine if she was a prophet from God or she simply said it to calm me down.
I had so much information on the phone that I almost got it announced on radio, safe for the fact that such announcements can't be made. The next day I traveled and simply tried to forget the phone. I was so feeling bad because I didn't activate the iCloud or Lost iPhone app. But before I traveled, I logged into the apple portal with my account and left a message, "If you find this phone, it is lost. Simply call 080********. A reward awaits you". Then I relaxed. That weekend I suddenly tried calling the phone and it rang for six (6) times and nobody picked it. I sent two sms yet no response. At that point I was feeling even worse because somehow the iPhone is unlocked now, I thought. At this point, I had to forget it and bother my head with other issues. But one interesting decision I made was to stick to my Asha dual SIM phone I was using besides the iPhone until February 2015 when I would buy a new one.
On November 17, 2014 I was back in PHC again. Then came the mysterious call by about 21:38hrs on November 28, 2014. The caller introduced himself, though I didn't catch the name and it was seen as one of those trivial calls, until he asked "did you lose you iPhone recently?" I went ahead to give him details of where, when and how I last saw my iPhone. "call me tomorrow so I can direct you on where to come pick your iPhone", he added. That was it. I went there, met with about five young men and after about 20 minutes wait, another young man came with the iPhone. Behold, it was still fresh and clean. And I smartly inquired what really happened. I could decipher that the young man who called me intended to buy the iPhone but got frustrated when all efforts to unlock it proved abortive. So he decided it meant nothing than to return it to the owner. When I inserted a SIM, I accessed the iCloud server and immediately I entered my credentials, the iPhone was unlocked.
I know technology was at work, but at the same time I also feel there was hand of God. The point is, even if the fellow wasn't able to unlock it and got frustrated as the days went by, he could have as well decided to also crush it. But he didn't, instead he took the bold step by calling. He was surprised when I told him I didn't inform the Police and I also didn't come with any Police or something.
Meanwhile, my lost hope in Nigeria and Nigerians is gradually coming back. I simply didn't expect getting my iPhone back.
What do you think fellas? It all depends on a lot but most of all, the hand of God. I had 2 experiences of such in abuja. 1. I lost my wallet in a cab b/w CAC, maitama and Wuse Zone 4 and I was to board a plane first thing the following morning. I was the 1st to get to high court in order to get an 'affitdavit' cos I lost my drivers' license and ID cards with the wallet. As I was about to board the plane, I got a call from kiss FM to come and pick my wallet with everything intact. 2. I was out hustling with a friend and in the evening, we decided to eat at the open place opposite area 2 shopping complex. All through the day, I was carrying my backpack containing my laptop and all my academic/professional certificates but due to the overcrowded situation of the place we were to eat, I decided to leave my backpack in my friend's car. He left his own too with his laptop inside. After eating, we got into the car. My first reaction was to reach for my bag. E don miss! So also was his own too. I felt like throwing up the food. We went to garki police station to make a formal report after searching inside dustbin and inside gutter. We even went into some of the buildings around the block. The policemen pitied me like die. About a week later, I got a call to come and pick my certificates at the entrance of a shopping complex in area 10, all intact. I couldn't hold back my joy. On both occasions, I knew it was God's help because I didn't go anywhere to announce. I believe there are still some good people with kind hearts in this parts of the world. I'm happy you got your phone back. |
