N50 Million Paid as Ransom for 20 Kidnapped Medical Students – Families Allege Rev. Fr. Delivers Ransom* It has emerged that the twenty medical students from the University of Jos and the University of Maiduguri, who were abducted on Thursday, August 15, 2024, along the Otukpo-Enugu highway in Benue State, were released free of charge by their abductors. According to family sources, the students regained their freedom following the alleged payment of N50 million in ransom by the victims’ families. The students were kidnapped while en route to attend the annual conference of the Federation of Catholic Medical and Dental Students (FECAMDS), which was held at Enugu State University of Technology last weekend. Benue State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Superintendent of Police (SP) Catherine Anene, confirmed the release of the students in a WhatsApp message at 11 p.m., describing it as a rescue. She promised to provide details of the rescue operation, but this was not forthcoming. Sources within security and the families of the abductees revealed that each of the twenty students’ families paid N2.5 million, totaling the N50 million ransom demanded by the kidnappers. The ransom was delivered by a Reverend Father in Enugu State, while the students were released in a forest in Utonkon, Ado Local Government Area (LGA) of Benue State, around midnight. Utonkon is approximately 36 kilometers from Otukpo. National Accord reported that, according to a family source, the ransom was ready for delivery on Thursday. However, when the Reverend Father went to the agreed location, the kidnappers were not present. The kidnappers later contacted the cleric, stating that they were under pressure from security operatives and had to abort the collection on Thursday. “The day before yesterday, they took the ransom around but could not meet the person supposed to collect it. When they met the following day, they said they were trying to avoid security. That was in Enugu. They received the money there and released the students in Utonkon, Ado Local Government Area, Benue State,” the source said. After their release, the students reportedly trekked several kilometers before being located and picked up by a team of security operatives. They were brought to Otukpo in the early hours of Saturday. Security operatives departed Otukpo around 5:05 a.m. on Saturday, taking all 20 students and their family members to Abuja, where they are scheduled to undergo medical check-ups and hold a press conference at either the Force Headquarters or the Presidential Villa, according to a family source. About five days ago, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun had ordered the deployment of a tactical squad to Benue State and directed the State Commissioner of Police, CP Yabanet, to relocate to Otukpo LGA to rescue the students. You will hold unto your head and scream like it wants to explode.. 4. Your chest will tighten, forcing close , making sure that your body have lost control over it. 5. You will be on the floor by now, screaming through all your senses, as saliva pours out from your mouth like a slow, mini river. 6. You will mess yourself up with vomiting, and you will long to vomit your intestines too, to be relieved, cos you are now in so much regrets for taking the sniper, but ah,ah,ah...sniper must finish it's job. 7. The rest of the crises comes in turns as you shit all over yourself ...sweating ,muscle fasciculation, your blood pressure will go down low, convulsions, then, your life will be squeezed out of you through the shutting down of your lungs and kidney....cardiac arrest will aid your departure. The last thing that will die in you, is your brain that will take in every information before shutting down. It will allow you watch yourself, give up the pained ghost. That's why they will meet you when you are dead, with your eyes open, drooling, a lot of poo in your underwear, your body twisted in a strange position as you tried to fight off the pain and crises, and they will observe the signs of struggle in the room you took the sniper...cos you will climb the walls, tear the sheets, rip some of your hair off, just to quail the killing pain.. some run off from their houses,screaming for people to help them, that they drank sniper, that's how they ended up in the hospital. If you are lucky, your system could be flushed when it has not shut down everything, but you will never remain the same, if you are unlucky, you will die on your way to the hospital, or in the hospital...but in your dead eyes, the last memorial record in it, before your terrorized brain, shuts down, is "regrets". You can see, it's not an easy death. Should in case you are among those, waiting on queue to snipe yourself out..the dead cannot come back to tell you their experiences with sniper...that 100ml ,200/300 naira otapiapia, is a terminator..a gradually, ruthless, wicked terminator. You are deceived when they make you believe that sniper is the easier way out, no, it will slowly devour you from the inside, as it shuts down your organs one by one in a tearing order. It's only a bullet to your head, measured well, not to miss the brain, that can be the fast killer you anticipated, not sniper. If you are depressed, drink more of cold juices, while you think your way out. Suicide is not a joke. Sniper will make you see your ear without mirror, will force you to beg for your life back, but it will scream back at you from your system, to let it do its job. It will give you a slow, dragged, struggled, regrettable death... Why don't you use that strength of fighting a painful death, and fight your way out to live? To those Nigerian citizens currently attacking the Nigerian government, and especially our immigration authorities, due to Mr. Larry Madowo's post complaining about his $215 alleged Nigerian visa payment, do note the following: The Nigerian visa can be obtained at $25 on arrival for Kenyan citizens, of which Mr. Madowo is one. The $170 is for the biometric fee. Also, Nigeria has reciprocal visa policies with Mr. Madowo's home country, Kenya. I have been to Kenya multiple times. For many years, Nigerian citizens enjoyed visa-free or visa-on-arrival privileges at Kenyan airports. This was recently revoked. And you do not expect Nigeria to be pleased about this, especially as more Nigerians visit Kenya than vice versa. If Mr. Madowo wants to take a dig at African nations frustrating a "borderless Africa", he should look closer to home. Moreover, Larry Madowo, who is a CNN correspondent, and who should have known that he is very likely to visit Nigeria, which is Africa's biggest economy, more than once a year, should have applied for a multiple-entry Nigerian visa, which is available to him for five years at a more affordable cost of just $100, which is far cheaper than the Kenyan visa for Nigerians for the same period, and which would have eliminated the need for multiple biometric charges. He would have just needed to do ONE biometric payment. Larry Madowo did not do his homework correctly. It is entirely the responsibility of a traveller to research the immigration requirements of the country he intends to visit. He was negligent in his responsibilities and is trying to blame Nigeria. For a journalist on a platform like CNN, he has demonstrated a surprising ignorance of non-proprietary information, which can be publicly sourced with a cursory Google search. What he is complaining of is not even unique to Nigeria, as those Nigerians who are supporting him, due to their disappointment at the results of the last elections, seem not to be aware. For example, whenever a Nigerian or Kenyan reapplies for a British visa, they MUST still pay for their biometrics and take them, even if they just had them recently. It is a standard practice. It is precisely the same process in Nigeria for which Mr. Madowo is complaining about. Therefore, prudent individuals choose to apply for a long-term multiple visa, of which the British five-year multiple entry visa costs £771, which is almost ten times the cost of a five-year Nigerian visa. That £771 does not include the cost of Biometrics. And I saw supposedly enlightened Nigerians, like Dr. Victor Oladokun, of the African Development Bank, commenting on Mr. Madowo's post as though Nigeria had erred and was not acting in line with international best practices. Can Larry Madowo try the stunt he pulled with Nigeria against the United Kingdom or the United States? I am proud of my country. I salute the reforms in our immigration system. And I, for one, will not sit idly while Mr. Madowo undermines Nigeria for an oversight he is entirely responsible for. I visited Kenya with twenty of my friends and family for my fifteenth birthday, and I was asked to pay a bribe at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in the early hours of January 17, 2024. I have documentary and eyewitness evidence and can prove it in court. I am not known as a meticulous record keeper for nothing! However, for the sake of African brotherhood, I kept a lid on this, because "love covers over a multitude of sins." Mr. Madowo, like a typical African dictator, is only abusing his privileged position in the media industry to bully the Nigerian Immigration Service unnecessarily, and again, I, for one, will not have it!
