Music/RadioRe: A Must Read For Music Producer Or Anyone Into Music Production. by ElRazur(op): 12:58pm On Dec 03, 2010
@Topic

I think 2 and 3 is probably the strongest points.

2. Stop stealing music, software, ideas, etc. This creates a trickle down effect and results in the music mess we have going on today. This music production thing is not for everybody! Invest in yourself and know what you want from your music. Research and buy the best tools for you. Also when you buy, you are supporting the makers who keep us in supply of our favourite production tools. Please note: Karma is real! There’s no way you are expecting to sell music if you’re not buying any, right? There is certainly no way you are expecting support if you are not supporting others, right?
I agree with this one right here. Everyone wants to "make music and make money out of it". It appears there is less passion these days in my opinion and people are just motivated with the attention, money, fame and possible recognition that comes with it.

Reading things online sometimes, I see people talk about "Multi verse", Complex rhymes and what not, while ignoring the fact that no matter how complex or how many multi you may think you are throwing, if there isn't much passion in it, it is all just empty music-wise. In most cases, such "music tracks" barely have a shelf life and are almost over the instant it is released. Oh well, each one to their own I guess.

3. Understand the difference between a music producer, composer, and arranger. The latter two are often knowledgeable in music theory and more than likely fluently play several instruments. As a music producer, it’s a super plus to have the same knowledge as an arranger and or composer; however, it’s not a must. But please don’t think because you throw together a few waveforms, or a boxed loop or sample makes you a music producer. To earn such a title, you need to put in work in all aspects of the term. Also note: many arrangers, composers, and songwriters are super music producers.
If memory serves me right, someone like Dr Dre actually went back to study Music theory and what not.  I am not sure if he can play several instruments fluently, but like Scott Torch, Dr Dre can "emulate" any sound/instruments using samplers (Akai mpc et al)

Yes it will cause more harm and at the same time we know who is back stabbing who. The Arab league will tell Iran that they are in support of their nuclear whatever but will get behind and tell US to Bomb Iran. Why not let Iran to know their stand abnitio to avoid any confrontation with anybody. Don't you think Iran might be doing strong head on the believe that her Arab brothers are behind whatever they are doing while what they are seeking is Iran distruction.
So you agree it will cause more harm, but try to present the point that "we will know who is back-stabbing who" as more important? Are you kidding me?

One do not fire a shot-gun to discipline a child, you see.

Regardless of what's been said behind close doors, the human relations has/have never been a straightforward business. There are deceit, con, deception, entrapment and  it will continue to be so. It is what holds humanity together, especially in an era of political hostility.

May I remind you that England was promised votes and what not at the World cup bid, and do any of these "promised votes" materialised? No it never. You see, it is part of what makes us human.

To think that you will come across or suggest that "knowing who the back-stabbers are" is more important or worth debating here is just wrong in my opinion.

The strong point remains, these leaks will cause more harm than good. It is good you share that view.

PS
Asange is still wanted and it is believed that he is in hiding in the UK (South East of England). The irony of it to me now, is that he leaked what can be argued to be "state-secrets" (well most of it are just tabloid-style gossip so far) and he is now hiding within that state  shocked  I would have expect him to come out and at least provide some answers to the allegations of despoil against him.

So it appears there is a warrant out for him in relation to sexual molestation and a possible case of forced sex.  Apparently the Swiss authority has turned down his application for asylum or stay.

One thing that I can't help but ask again is why are people not stating the good this leak will serve in relation to the harm it will cause?  Why is this particular question getting sidelined?  Can those who support this kind of leaks give their views please.

The only attempt I have so far is from Presido1 and it is a weak one in my opinion.  Any takers?

Okay may be the above is a leading question, let's try this instead; do you seriously think this leak will do more good than harm?

As per the post at hand, I have no problem with the Wiki guy, I merely mentioned what has been mentioned before, that is, questioned what his true motives are etc. As to whether he actually raaaaaped someone, I guess the Swiss court will decide.

Here is Julian making an appeal against the international warrant out for him. Now, anyone will probably think why appeal if he's got nothing to hide? (I am not saying he's done anything, but seem strange he is appealing)

Wikileaks founder Julian Assange has filed an appeal with Sweden's Supreme Court against a warrant to arrest him for questioning on rape allegations.

Music/RadioA Must Read For Music Producer Or Anyone Into Music Production. by ElRazur(op): 7:06pm On Nov 30, 2010
I agree with most things mentioned in here. I think it may be useful to those who are making music around here.

http://soundsandgear.com/12-things-you-should-know-as-a-music-producer/

1. Know what you want to achieve from making music. What genre you want to produce and perfect? Understand that ‘alternative, country or sampling’ may not be your thing, but your R&B piano skills are flawless. As music producers mainly produce tracks and record their artists these days, traditional producers may not only make music, but also oversee the project including budget, song selection, etc.

4. I’ve said this one a trillion times: Thin skin, easily hurt feelings, and an over egotistical attitude are reasons you will fail before you are off the ground, especially these days in the midst of music madness. You’ll end up so quick in that big pond of little fish trying to make your way. Spend that high altitude of an attitude into creating good music, getting along, and understanding the business of a music producer.

5. Just because someone doesn’t produce on the same type of gear you do, does not make them inferior to you. Stop bashing the gear of others, you may look up and find their tracks are hotter than yours!

6. If your online conversation is always about you and the artists you are working with… that gets old. Support other producers and artists as well. Attend their shows, visit their pages, blogs, leave comments, and spark conversation. You never know what could come from it.

7. A music producer has good ‘sound and production’ skills. Read that line again! You can’t just get away with producing a hot track to have it sound raggedy, out of tune, and over-processed. Take pride also in the vocals that go over your tracks. Just because an artist has skills may not mean they sound good over your productions. In
other words, you can’t collab with just anybody. Music producers care deeply about the end-product of their pieces.

8. Your reputation, credibility and reliability sticks with you. Practice what you preach. Meet deadlines,
appointments, meetings, and studio sessions in a timely manner. Return emails and phone calls. The opportunities you ignore could be a goldmine for the next one. Maintain professionalism when it is appropriate including avoiding Twitter/Facebook brawls which are commonly ill marketing tactics these days. Understand that your conversation goes a long way in interviews. The person that fans you could very well be the one that prevented you from obtaining that platinum record status.

9. Build a catalog of quality music, and have it ready to present at all times. The keyword here is ‘quality’ meaning your good stuff. Don’t present anything you have to make excuses for. Be cautious of who you are presenting to. Research the person and or company that is interested in hearing your catalog. Not just anybody should have that opportunity. It’s also a good idea to have at least 5 albums ready.

10. Producing music is a business. It involves various contracts, agreements, copyrights, invoices, royalties, publishing, and licensing. You must have a strong knowledge of these areas to function successfully as a music producer. You should also have an attorney on hand.

11. Too proud to beg? You shouldn’t be. Ask for what you want. Reach out to your goals. Very few have them just show up at their front door. The same applies with asking questions to help you sift through your process. If you don’t know, it’s okay. Find someone you are comfortable with that can mentor you. Someone you trust to guide you. There is nothing ignorant in searching for clarity. The ignorance only remains when you don’t.

12. Listen to various types of music, old and new, across genres, your grandmother’s music, your parent’s music, and your children’s music. Gain an appreciation for your favorite styles, and not so favorite. Collect various types of music and listen closely to the instrumentation, the vocals, and the elements that pulled the pieces together. This will make you aware of aspects of the music making process and an appreciation of the art. Having knowledge of a wide field of music just makes you another great asset to the music production industry.
I think it is fair to say this speak to most of us and I personally learn a thing or two from reading this. I hope it helps others.

Presido 1,

It may be worth mentioning that a few members of the inner-cricle of wikileak resigned and accused Julian Assange of "playing like a celebrity and after fame and money"

It seems that many of the members of Wikileaks are starting to have personal problems with Assagne's leadership style. One member that is resigning is Daniel Domscheit-Berg, the spokesperson in Germany. For better or for worse it seems that Wikileaks may be coming apart due to Assagne's personality rather than any other factor.
Please note that this happened before he was accused of rape/sexual molestation etc.

My point is that, there may be personal gains at stake here, but only time will tell.

For pple jumping for joy, don't worry a time will come when u will have nothing good to say to wikileak.

Can Wikileak try Russia diplomatic cable?
This is what worries me.

We all know that if it happens to the US, then it can happen to anyone. If this happens to the Russian, it is fair to say they will just hunt him down and kill. Period.

I am of the belief that some things are best kept away from public domain (just like you mentioned)

I really do not see any good this is doing. The repercussions and damage that will result are far greater than any good anyone can think of in my opinion.

By the way, I support the leaks, but concerned about what good it is in the long run. Surely, this position of mine is obvious?
Foreign AffairsRe: Wikileak Site under attack! by ElRazur(op): 10:44pm On Nov 28, 2010
I am not against the leak like you are trying to push across.

Let me give you the view I am coming from instead.   With someone like King Abdulah of Saudi Arabia seeking the destruction of Iran, this will probably raise tension further within the internals of the Kingdom and then elevate levels of tension between Saudi and Iran.   Let's not forget that it can possibly raise tension between the different sect of Islam etc. Surely, all of these tensions are not exactly good for peace in that region?

With other nations now identified as wanting the US to blow Iran up, surely this will create a block/mentality of "Us v them" and what is now there to stop Iran from further escalating their nuclear programme etc?

You see, these are some of the things I see and that worries me.  No lies, I am not looking to see a world war in my life time. cheesy as I happen to live in a part of the world where we will be hit.

Don't get me wrong, I am not supporting the alleged actions of the US where it is bad, I am just concerned as to how this will help in the long run.
Foreign AffairsRe: Wikileak Site under attack! by ElRazur(op): 10:09pm On Nov 28, 2010
presido1:
You have no argument here, problematic or interfering makes no diff as far as freedom of press is consigned. Anything you released to the press effects somebody in one way or the other. You are only saying that you have a problem with freedom of the press when its problematic to US and her allies and not the other way round. Lets take for instance that this leak is on Iran, Hezbollah or North Korea will you be consigned to this extent? No cus it gives you the info you want to hear about those consigned to tag them more towards negativity. In that case its not a problem to you.

We all know it will not change anything topically but within themselves many comments will be reserved. Relation, correspondence and sharing of info will definitely change.
So you see no problem as to how Freedom of press can be problematic huh Or should I say you picked to ignore how Freedom of press can be abused. In the example I gave, please explain to me as to how the alleged cheating fiasco of Rooney is of any public interest? Better still, can you highlight how the front pages of The Sun making reports on Wenger's personal life is of any interest to the public at large?

You see the point is this, while freedom of press should be respected, it is sometimes necessary to avoid going over-board on how certain things are reported. Still using the example I gave, Ronney's private life serve little or no purpose to me, Wenger's alleged allegation is of no use to me, and to be honest, a lot of people have complained about how the press seem to abuse their "freedom" every now and then. I think that is my point.

As per the issues you are trying to push across. I think it is a bit of an assumption on your side that I will react in one particular way if (the keyword here is IF) this was about NK or Iran.

It is also a bit of a misconception to say I have problem with freedom of press simply because the US (Western World) is involved. I have slated the UK media here many times for their tabloid-style and sensationalist journalism. So your accusations are baseless.
