One of the most commonly debated topics in Primary Schools was "Teachers are better than Doctors: Support or Oppose". Funny enough, the group in support of the motion tends to win most times . Teachers are nation builders and the Teaching profession is a noble one. Today is World Teachers' day, a day set aside to celebrate and acknowledge the roles of Teachers in the society globally. Held annually on the 5th of October since 1994, World Teachers’ Day commemorates the anniversary of the adoption of the 1966 ILO/UNESCO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers which sets benchmarks regarding the rights and responsibilities of teachers and standards for their initial preparation and further education, recruitment, employment, and teaching and learning conditions. This years celebration is quite unique, especially when we observe the vital roles played by teachers to ensure that no child is hindered from learning amidst the pandemic. In Nigeria many teachers have relentlessly conducted online classes and tutorials to ensure students are kept occupied while staying at home. A report from UNICEF in 2020 showed that children around the world appreciated their teachers for sacrificing their times and lives to teach them during and after COVID- 19 pandemic, hence, this year's World Teacher's Day theme is celebrated with the theme “Teachers: Leading in crisis, reimagining the future”. Appreciate your Teachers today Happy Worlds Teachers' Day Source: https://www.basmall.com.ng/blogs/news/worlds-teachers-day-2020-what-the-celebration-is-all-about

Nephilim:Well, they don't actually swim but, most human babies demonstrate an innate swimming or diving reflex from birth until the age of about six months |
Babies are beautiful! This is an indisputable fact anywhere in the world, It can't be just me who has this tempting desire to kiss any baby I come across. ![]() Nevertheless, beyond the cuteness and whole awesomeness of babies, these little bundles of joy are unique in a lot of ways, Here are some mind-blowing facts that you probably don't know about your little one. 7 Amazing facts about New Born Babies 1. They have more bones than adults You must be wondering, how? where? what? Well according to biology, an adult has about 206 bones but babies are born with 300 bones! Nevertheless, as they grow older, the number of bones turn to what we have in adults For example, the skull starts as three pieces of bone joined by cartilage, so that it can fit through the birth canal. This is why your baby's head has soft spots, but these pieces eventually join to make one solid bone. 2. Babies don't produce tears You'll probably want to dispute this, Calm down ![]() Babies cry a lot and this is a very obvious fact, but if you carefully observe, there are no actual tears on their cheeks. The reason is that, while newborns are born with tear ducts, there is only enough water produced to protect the eye so there is no excess left to roll down the cheeks. The tear glands develop in one to three months and eventually, babies start producing tears. Isn't it amazing?! 3. Babies are born without a sleeping pattern You must have wondered why these little humans would suddenly decide to keep the whole house awake all through the night. In the first few weeks of babies development, they tend to sleep more often regardless of the time of the day. Over time they would learn the difference between day and night and gradually start to sleep more at night when things are calm and quiet 4. They have more taste buds than adults It is quite incredible when you realise that babies have more taste buds than the average adults. An adult has about 10,000 tastebuds but a baby is born with over 30,000 tastebuds on their tongues and the roof of their mouth! 5. Babies have surprisingly tiny stomachs This is the reason why newborn babies need to feed often. Their stomachs are as small as walnuts! I'm not exaggerating this fact, babies actually have small stomachs when born but at the end of the first week, there would be a significant increase in their stomach size. 6. Babies learn faster than adults Babies learn faster than you, yes you! From the womb, babies start getting used to their environments, the voice and sounds they hear. Their brains are forming connections at an incredible rate, so babies are very quick to pick up new things in the first months of their lives. So say nice things always when you are with a baby ![]() 7. They are natural pro swimmers This is my favourite fact, Babies are natural born pro swimmers, they have natural aquatic instincts when in the water!. They learn this talent while in the womb but begin to lose this ability around the 6-month mark. These are just few of the numerous incredible facts about newborn babies if you are a parent or you hope to be soonest, it is really important you began to understand your baby's needs. Try to see the world in a baby's point of view, you'll be amazed at what you've been missing all these while If you know more beautiful facts about babies, kindly share below ![]() We have some fantastic baby products for you and your little one, Check them out on Bas Mall Online Shopping Mall https://www.basmall.com.ng/pages/search-results?q=baby Source: Bas Mall Blog https://www.basmall.com.ng/blogs/news/7-incredible-facts-about-new-born-babies

Barka da Sallah to every Muslim May the blessings of Allah be with you and your family forever and always. Eating Jollof Rice and Fried Rice during celebrations is getting too cliche in Nigeria How can you claim to be a Nigerian and you've not tasted the legendary "Nigerian Jollof Rice" ![]() Here is an article on some "African Rice Dishes you should try out this Eid" Rice is one of the most widely consumed staple food in the world, especially among Africans and Asians. It is the agricultural commodity with the third-highest worldwide production. The best part of Rice is its diversity in preparation and recipes. In Nigeria, we are already familiar with White Rice, Fried Rice and our globally recognized Jollof Rice, all thanks to our national warriors on social media who keep standing up to defend our cause ![]() Here are 7 African Rice Dishes you would also love 1) Kenyan Biryani The Kenyan biryani is very similar to the Indian biryani. It was introduced to East African by Arab traders during the Indian Ocean Trade. Kenyan Biryani is mostly prepared with basmati rice and other ingredients could include yoghurt, cinnamon and coriander. 2) Yellow Rice Yellow rice is arguably more nutritious than plain white rice because it contains more vitamin and minerals than white rice. Yellow rice main ingredients include onion, olive oil, black pepper, turmeric, salt and garlic powder. It is very simple to make since all the ingredients can be poured at once and cooked. 3) Waakye Waakye is a Ghanian dish made of rice and beans. The dish can be eaten on its own or with the Ghanian peppered sauce, fish or even spaghetti. 4) Palm Oil Rice I'm sure you are familiar with the name "Concoction Rice" or "Nigeria Native Rice". It is called so because it is an alternative to Jollof rice and is usually cooked with palm oil. All the ingredients are put at once and cooked together. Some other ingredients needed to make this recipe includes dry fish, scent leaf, crayfish and pepper. 5) Mixed nut rice If you are a lover of nuts, then you would certainly love mixed nut rice. Mixed nut rice was originally from India, but it is now loved mostly in Morroco. The dish can be served on its own, with roasted meat, beef stew and any nut of your choice. 6) Coconut Rice Coconut and Rice is simply an amazing duo that gives us Coconut Rice. This simple meal would bring tasty aroma to your dining table. Coconut Milk is used in place of water to cook the rice, and it can be cooked with any vegetable of your choice. 7) Mupunga Une Dovi (Peanut Butter Rice) Mupunga Une Dovi is a highly nutritious Zimbabwean traditional meal. Some schools have been able to successfully leverage online classes to continue the pace of learning but considering the difficulty of some children and young ones in some parts of the country to access e-learning gadgets and accessories make this move to be not so effective. The school environment is very crucial and vulnerable, little ones can be sometimes ignorant if not properly cautioned, this leaves a place of worry in the minds of parents and guardians. Is the safety of their children and wards assured if schools re-open? Are there measures set in place to ensure total compliance of covid 19 safety measures in schools?. The Nigerian schooling system includes primary, secondary and tertiary institution. The primary school pupils are between the age range 0f 5 - 11 years old. A lot of attention should be paid to the primary school system in Nigeria in ensuring that these young ones are well guided on Covid 19 precautionary measures and a safe healthy environment is provided for them. In Nigeria, the federal government recently released guidelines on the gradual re-opening of schools nationwide with measures that include * Training of teachers and other personnel on safety hygiene measures * Establishing a Covid 19 referral system * Ensure availability of an ambulance and access to a testing/isolation/treatment centre including NCDC helpline and state government facilities * Ensure adequate water, sanitation and hygiene * De-congesting classrooms, hostels, worship centred and other spaces * Encouraging the use of open spaces for gathering and promoting outdoor activities * Establish staff/ students committee for regular surveillance, monitoring and enforcement of Covid-19 guidelines. We hope that the guidelines would prove to be effective in ensuring the safety of students. Parents and guardians should ensure to teach and train their children and wards on what Covid 19 is and its safety measures. What do you think... Are these measures enough to protect Kids and Students? What else can be done to ensure the continuity of education amidst the pandemic? The current global pandemic crisis is leaving a lot of people with uncertainty about the future. As a parent, your number priority is keeping your family safe from the virus especially kids. Currently, schools have been closed temporarily and it is most likely that they are re-opened sooner or later. It is expedient you train your kids on some safety precautions to observe during the pandemic. "Here are some safety tips for your kids during Covid 19" Teach them the usual safety precautions Health and Medical professionals all over the world have been encouraging us to observe some precautionary measure to reduce the spread. You probably know them already, but let me help you recall, 1) Avoid touching your face, eyes, nose or mouth 2) Wash your hands regularly with soap and water, or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer 3) Maintain at least a distance of 1.5 meters between you and other people 4) Use an approved face mask if at all you need to go outside 5) Do not touch staircase railings, door handles and transportation handles. 6) Do not touch anything that can be potentially touched by thousands of people; if at all you need to touch them, use a clean paper tissue and dispose of immediately. "Talk to your kids about the virus let them be aware of the precautionary safety measures to observe during Covid 19'' Avoid Public Transportation For kids, I strongly recommend that you avoid boarding public transport. Get them a Taxi or ask people you know to give them a lift. If they need to use public transport, ensure they practice every precautionary safety measure. Encourage them to always speak up We know kids can at times want to keep things to themselves especially when they have an injury from playing. Make your kids comfortable and encourage them to speak up if they notice any slight change in their body. Let them have safe fun This is important for their mental development. Allow your kids to have some fun, encourage them to play some online games, chat with their friends and also have quality family time with them. Your kid's mental health is as important as their physical health Buy safety protective equipment for them Kids can also use a face mask and hand gloves. Some approved face masks are uniquely designed for kids. A KN95 face mask is uniquely designed to filter out pollutants and other microorganism and would allow your kids to breathe well through them. You can purchase a KN95 facemask for them. Remember your family safety is your number one priority during Covid 19 pandemic. I understand the pain , but really that's one of the most important steps to at least get to your destination as early as possibleOcVoice: |
Traffic in some major cities in Nigeria is not to joke with. You would be surprised to know that the time estimate to a location according to Google map is actually times five in reality especially in places like Lagos. ‘’Lagos traffic’’ is now a commonly used phrase among commuters on the roads of LagosWith the rising population, increase in the numbers of cars, bad roads and irresponsibility of some drivers, traffic has become a force to reckon with in Nigeria. Traffic can sometimes cause stress to your mind and it tends to increase aggression among individuals. Let me highlight some smart ways I believe would help you beat traffic in Nigeria Leave home early This is the first and obvious way you need to beat traffic in Nigeria, you need to be a step ahead all the time. Whether you are certain of the traffic situation or not always leave home early. You can not always accurately predict the traffic situation on the road. Listen to traffic radio broadcasts Not many people are aware that some radio broadcasting channels give regular update and analysis of the traffic situation in major areas daily. While on the go, tune in to a radio station to get informed of what you are to expect on the road. Discover alternative routes Finding out about alternative routes to your destination can sometimes be your saving grace. You can save yourself from spending unnecessary hours in the traffic by discovering alternative routes. Google map can be your guide to help you discover them, but I would suggest you find out about them and confirm if it is still commutable before trying them out. Download traffic apps With the advancement in technology, some traffic apps can provide real-time information on the traffic situation in certain places. They are available for download on Google play store, they include Gidi Traffic, Traffic Radio and Traffikator. Use Public transport as often as possible There are certain times when the best decision you would make that day is leaving your car at home to use a public transport system. One major cause of traffic is the increasing number of vehicles on roads. Some public transport systems that are provided by the Nigerian Government are subsidized. You should make use of them as often as possible. You can be thousand of steps ahead of traffic in Nigeria by ensuring you make proper preparations. I hope you found this article helpful.
