Nobody is asking you to stand by and watch ignorance or false information take root. If someone makes a factually incorrect statement about Nigerian football, by all means, correct it. Your knowledge of the game is one of the reasons many people here respect your contributions.

The issue is not your willingness to correct people; it is the manner in which you sometimes go about it.

There is a clear difference between saying, “That assertion is factually incorrect, and here are the facts,” and calling people ignorant, egoistic crybabies or using other derogatory expressions simply because they have made a wrong assertion.

You can prove someone wrong without belittling them. In fact, being able to correct someone firmly while still maintaining respect is a greater demonstration of knowledge and maturity.

Nobody is saying you should allow falsehoods to stand. What I am saying is that you do not need to demean another adult in the process of correcting them.

And let’s be honest, being knowledgeable about Nigerian football does not make any of us infallible. You can be right about the facts and still be wrong in the way you address another contributor. Likewise, someone can make a wrong assertion without deserving to be insulted for it.

My earlier message was therefore not an attempt to challenge your football knowledge or prevent you from correcting people. Quite the opposite, I acknowledged that your knowledge of Nigerian football is exceptional. It was simply a reminder that, after being on this thread for so many years, we should have grown beyond unnecessary insults and personal attacks.

If you believe someone is wrong, correct them with facts. If they continue to insist on something demonstrably false, you can leave the matter there. But calling them names doesn’t make your argument any more factual.

We can maintain the standard of factual discussion you are advocating for while also maintaining a standard of respect in how we speak to one another.

A child of ten years would have learnt a lot in life, considering how long we have been on this thread contributing, dating as far back as 2017 when I first made my post here. I am sure you also joined this thread before I did.

However, as a note of caution, I would like to implore you, THESUPERNERD, as the good man I know you to be, to always desist from using derogatory words against fellow contributors on this thread.

I know that when it comes to general knowledge of the game of football and dissecting Nigerian football talents, you are arguably number one. I have been wowed by your depth of knowledge to the extent that, at some point, I jokingly told you to channel your knowledge into football business because I see you as being better than some of what we consume from other sports platforms and online vendors.

However, no man is perfect. You cannot continue to make the same mistake of dressing down an adult on this thread simply because they hold a contrary opinion, even if that opinion sounds “stupid” to you. People are entitled to their views, and disagreements should not necessarily descend into personal insults or derogatory remarks.

That is why I started this write-up with the point about “a child of 10 years.” A child of that age would have learnt and grown considerably in life, and in the same way, I believe that as adults, we should continually learn and improve in how we relate with one another.

Personally, I know I have improved in the way I see things and contribute to issues on this platform, and I expect the same growth from you too. I am only saying this as a simple reminder and not as an attack on you.

Judging by how long we have all been present on this thread, we should not allow ourselves to be drawn into unnecessary arguments, back-and-forth exchanges, or subtle insults that ultimately lead nowhere.

We can disagree, debate, and even strongly challenge one another’s opinions without losing respect for each other. At the end of the day, we are all here to contribute, learn, and share our different perspectives.

I don’t have to wait for any blog before pointing this out. If you’ve followed my conversations about our World Cup qualification, you’ll know I’ve been saying the same thing long before it became a trending topic.

Chelle has a lot of work to do. We can’t keep banking on the same players, especially in midfield. The Iwobi-Ndidi combination has been part of two failed World Cup qualification campaigns, and it’s time to explore better options.

I also believe Moses Simon and Chukwueze should gradually be phased out. Football is about evolution, and every successful team knows when it’s time to refresh the squad.

We can’t keep doing the same thing and expect different results. If we’re truly serious about qualifying for the World Cup, then difficult but necessary decisions have to be made.
