Politics › British Passport Linked To Saraki Forged – UK Authority by emamos(op): 6:40am On Sep 21, 2015 |
A scanned copy of a British passport purportedly belonging to the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, was forged, UK authorities have stated. The passport, with the name Olybukola Saraki, and number 306077175 was published by Sahara Reporters as evidence of Mr. Saraki’s dual citizenship and subsequent ineligibility to hold public office in Nigeria. Though Mr. Saraki confessed that he has a UK passport obtained by virtue of his being born in the country, he said the passport published by the website was not his and may have been forged. In a statement released by his special assistant on new media, Bamikole Omishore, the senate president said he instructed his attorney to contact the UK Passport Office to investigate what he termed an “act of criminality.” Mr. Saraki further explained that only those who voluntarily obtained the citizenship of another country are disqualified from holding public office. “It is important to state that the requirement to forfeit Nigerian nationality/citizenship upon acquisition of the nationality/citizenship of another country does not apply to persons who are Nigerians by birth within the definition of Section 25 of the Constitution. This section also acknowledges and protects the right to hold citizenship by birth of another country. “Citizens of a country by birth do not need to swear to an oath of allegiance to that country. It is only a citizenship acquired through naturalisation and registration that has the requirement to take an oath of allegiance,” he said on Facebook. In response to inquiry into the matter by Mr. Saraki’s lawyer, Andrew Stephenson of Discreet Law, London, Her Majesty Passport Office confirmed that the published passport was forged. The letter, made available to PREMIUM TIMES by Mr .Saraki’s media aide, Yusuph Olaniyonu, with reference number, Disc/Info/SARAKI/030915 and signed by C. Emery of Disclosure of Information department of HM Passport Office, confirmed that Mr. Saraki was issued a British passport on June 29, 2006, which will expire on 29 June, 2016. The number of Saraki’s genuine passport was, however, redacted in the letter. The letter confirmed that the number on the scanned published passport does not relate to Mr. Saraki. “I can further confirm that the number on the copy of the passport you supplied (marked 2 by yourselves) does not relate to Mr. Saraki,” the letter stated. It however declined to provide detail on who owns the passport number on the published passport saying that it can only disclose such information “upon production of a United Kingdom court order” directing the department to release the information . http://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/top-news/190384-british-passport-linked-to-saraki-forged-uk-authority.htmllalasticlala,seun |

Politics › I’m Not In Hiding, Saraki Says by emamos(op): 7:50pm On Sep 20, 2015 |
The embattled Senate President, Bukola Saraki, has denied going into hiding to evade police arrest over the corruption charges he is facing before the Code of Conduct Tribunal. He also denied planning to defect from the All Progressives Congress, APC, on whose platform he won the March 28 poll to the upper legislative chamber. The Tribunal had on Friday ordered the Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase, to arrest Mr. Saraki and produce him on Monday following the failure of the Senate President to appear before it to answer a 13-count criminal charge preferred against him by the Federal Ministry of Justice. The senate president, through his lawyers, however approached the Court of Appeal immediately, requesting it to set aside the order for his arrest. The media aide to Senate President, Yusuph Olaniyonu, told PREMIUM TIMES in a telephone interview on Sunday that the senate president was not in hiding as being speculated, but merely travelled to his home town in Ilorin. He explained that Mr. Saraki, who represents Kwara Central Senatorial District, made the trip to calm tension that had built up among his constituents and attend to other engagements. “How can he be hiding? He travelled to Ilorin to pray and calm frayed nerves and attend to some engagement,” Mr. Olaniyonu said. “He will return today (Sunday) to the Guest House to which he moved when a section of his house got burnt some weeks ago. You know he moved to the Guest house before the issue of Code of Conduct arose and so it was not because of the issue he moved.” Mr. Olaniyonu said he was not aware that a bench warrant had been issued though he could not confirm if the senate president would appear before the Tribunal on Monday. According to him, it is only Mr. Saraki’s lawyers that could provide answer to that. He said the matter may come up at the High Court, the Court of Appeal and the CCT on Monday. The senate president, while responding to questions on his official Twitter handle, denied planning to defect to the Peoples Democratic Party, to which he belonged until early 2014. Mr. Saraki was alleged to be planning to dump the APC after stripping the party’s name from his twitter bio. “I remain a card-carrying member of my dear party. But I’m also honoured to serve as Senate President of all Senators,” he said in a terse statement on the twitter handle. Meanwhile, the Ilorin Emirate Descendant Progressive Union has described the current travails of Mr Saraki as “purely politically motivated.” The National President of the IEDPU, Abdulhamid Adi, who stated this on Sunday, wondered why the Code of Conduct Bureau failed to raise any issue concerning the Senate President’s asset declaration forms since 2003. “I see it more or less a political persecution. It is purely political. Maybe there are some political opponents that are trying to get at him,” he said. Mr. Adi admonished the CCB not to allow itself to be used to achieve certain political gain but instead do its jobs without external influence. He stated that Mr. Saraki, who is the Turaki of Ilorin, is the first son of the Ilorin Emirate and Kwara State in general, to emerge Senate President and therefore expressed solidarity with him. Mr. Adi stressed, “We believe he will come out of it. You are presumed innocent until proven otherwise. http://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/headlines/190374-im-not-in-hiding-saraki-says.htmllalasticlala |

Politics › Be Prepared For More Changes Under Buhari Administration – Cleric Tells Nigerian by emamos(op): 6:10pm On Sep 20, 2015 |
Rev. Jonathan Babalola, the Senior Pastor of Union Baptist Church, Ekotedo, Ibadan, on Sunday told Nigerians to be prepared for more changes during the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari. Babalola, who said this at the 70th anniversary of the church, also urged politicians to shun all forms of corrupt practices and embrace the fight against corruption. He said that politicians were supposed to be good examples to members of the public, urging them to apply the teachings in churches and mosques to all aspects of their lives. Babalola said that the constitution of the church , which was recently launched, was meant to guide the leadership in the administration of the church. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the church had been in existence since Jan. 1, 1945. NAN also reports that the anniversary started on Sept. 13 with various activities such as medical test and visitation to orphanages while awards were presented to those who had contributed to the growth of the church. Among the beneficiaries was Rev. Samuel Oladitan, a 96-year-old cleric, who served in the church between 1988 and 1994. The anniversary also witnessed a fund-raising for the development of the church. The police on Friday said the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Solomon Arase would promptly effect the arrest of the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, if it gets the bench warrant issued by the Code of Conduct Tribunal on Friday. The Force Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Olabisi Kolawole, stated this in a telephone interview with our correspondent on Friday. “We are going to promptly arrest the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki and produce him before the Code of Conduct Tribunal on Monday but the IGP is yet to get the directive. “Since it is a bench warrant issued by a competent court, the order will be carried out without delay. We don’t want to pre-empt anything,” Kolawole stated. The Code of Conduct Tribunal had on Friday, issued a bench warrant for Saraki’s arrest, for failing to appear in court in his ongoing trial for alleged false asset declaration. http://thenationonlineng.net/police-awaits-bench-warrant-to-arrest-saraki/ |

Crime › NDLEA Arrests 6 For Swallowing $156,000 by emamos(op): 8:51am On Sep 18, 2015 |
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on Thursday arrested a Bureau De Change operator and five others for swallowing $156,000 (N31, 083, 000.00) at Excel Oriental Hotel along Airport Road, Lagos. They had the intention of exporting the monies to Brazil. NDLEA Chairman, Ahmadu Giade, confirmed the arrest. He assured that the agency would track down suspected drug traffickers and currency launderers in a bid to rid the society of crimes. Giade also warned that operators of bureau de change who fail to work within the confines of the law establishing them shall be severely sanctioned. NDLEA Commander, Joint Task Force, JTF, Mr. Adeniyi Muyiwa, gave the names of the suspects as Nwokenta Kingsley, 37, a Bureau de change operator, also known as Buchito; Onwuasoanya Augustine Chukwuemeka, 54, who lives in Brazil and Christian Okoli Ifor, 35, based in Brazil. Others are Nwokenta Emmanuel Maduakolam, 31; Ezenwa Ikenna, 28, a specialist in wrapping; and Ezenwa Uzoma, a 33-year-old hotel manager. He stressed that an interim investigation report by the anti-narcotics agency revealed that Mr. Nwokenta Kingsley, a.k.a Buchito was the brain behind the suspected criminal act. According to Mr. Muyiwa, Mr. Kingsley allegedly supplied $120,000 to be swallowed and illicitly exported to Brazil. He said: “Onwuasoanya Augustine Chukwuemeka swallowed 74 wraps of dollars amounting to one hundred and eleven thousand ($111,000). “Christian Okoli Ifor, who resides in Brazil had forty-five thousand dollars which he wanted to swallow. Nwokenta Emmanuel, who is the manager of Amazon Bureau de Change played a supportive role in the alleged crime. “Ezenwa Ikenna was hired to wrap the money.” http://dailypost.ng/2015/09/18/ndlea-arrests-6-for-swallowing-156000/ |

Politics › Assets Declaration Documents Detail Bukola Saraki’s Theft And Looting by emamos(op): 10:29pm On Sep 17, 2015 |
The latest documents offer a glimpse into his life of unexplained luxury and asset accumulation. The asset declaration forms also offer a glimpse into Mr. Saraki’s clever maneuvers to conceal his stolen wealth by passing off some assets to his wife, Toyin Saraki, and their two children, Semi Saraki and Teniola Saraki. SaharaReporters has exclusively obtained documents revealing Senate President Bukola Saraki’s asset declaration in 2003. The documents come hours after SaharaReporters reported that the Code of Conduct Tribunal formally charged the embattled Senate President with 13 counts of financial crime, money laundering, and unexplained assets. Mr. Saraki’s trial is expected to commence tomorrow, September 18, 2015, as he has been officially served today with the charges. Senators Andy Uba, Bukola Saraki and Dino Melaye are attending an IPU conference in New York SaharaReporters has published a series of investigative reports detailing Senator Saraki and his wife, Toyin Saraki’s, career of plundering Societe Generale Bank, where he was an executive director and in which the senator’s family had controlling shares, as well as the finances of Kwara State during his eight-year tenure as governor. An investigation by the Special Fraud Unit of the Nigerian Police Force revealed that Mr. Saraki not only went on a massive stealing spree that contributed to the collapse of Societe General Bank, but that he also masterminded a series of fraudulent schemes by taking out loans and bribing bank officials not to collect on those loans. Altogether, Bukola Saraki has accumulated millions of dollars in unexplained expenses and assets. It is remarkable that Mr. Saraki’s 2003 Declaration of Assets Forms were filed on May 12, 2003, seventeen days before he was sworn into office as Governor of Kwara State. Therefore, the assets he declared in the forms reflected the wealth Mr. Saraki had accumulated before he began an extensive plundering of Kwara State funds. Mr. Saraki’s 2003 asset declaration documents reveal his astonishing wealth with no explanation for how he obtained it. He and his companies had more than N51.5 million in Nigeria when he submitted these forms to the Code of Conduct Bureau in 2003. Mr. Saraki also had cash assets, under his name or those of his companies, of at least 2.9 million pounds sterling and $400,000 dollars in 2003. Saraki Bank Accounts Outside Nigeria Sahara Reporters Media In addition to his cash assets, Mr. Saraki was also the registered owner of at least eight properties in Nigeria, calculated in 2003 to be worth more than N2.2 trillion. Mr. Saraki was also the registered owner of eight properties in London, which he purchased roughly during the same time. By 2003, according to Mr. Saraki’s assets declaration forms, he owned properties in the UK worth more than $12.6 million. Saraki properties in Nigeria Sahara Reporters Media Saraki properties in London, UK Sahara Reporters Media Before becoming a State governor, Mr. Saraki also purchased 15 vehicles. The automobiles consisted of a Ferrari, 10 Mercedes Benzes, and four bulletproof cars valued at more than N263.4 million. All the vehicles were purchased between 1997 and 2002, with most of them acquired through “business” transactions. Saraki's vehicles Sahara Reporters Media The assets declaration forms also reveal that Mr. Saraki and his companies had stockholdings worth 2,145,550 naira, 2,600,00 Euros, and 6,108,33 US dollars. The documents also reveal that Mr. Saraki’s wife, Toyin, and their two children, owned assets that were inexplicable and highly suspicious. The forms showed that the assets held by Mrs. Saraki and the senator’s two children included cash, property, and stock holdings valued at more than N8 million, 4.5 million pounds sterling, and $4.6 million. The total wealth, of cash and other assets, that Bukola Saraki decided to declare on his assets declaration forms was 2.607 billion naira (2,607,110,550 naira), 23.7 million US dollars (23,783,333), 7.4 million Pounds Sterling (7,406,500 Pounds Sterling), and 2.6 million Euros (2,600,000 Euros). Saraki company assets Sahara Reporters Media The grand total of Bukola Saraki’s wealth, as of 2003, is 10.2 billion naira (10,209,270,295 naira). However, as SaharaReporters and Nigerian police investigations have shown, this is only a small glimpse of Bukola Saraki’s total wealth. SaharaReporters has previously released documents detailing a police investigation of Bukola Saraki, authored by the Chief Superintendent of Police for Anti-Money Laundering, which offered another glimpse into Saraki’s criminal and unexplained financial activity. This investigation revealed that Bukola Saraki conservatively deposited more than 2 billion naira into accounts belonging to him, in addition to his dollar accounts. The investigation found that between May 2009 and May 2011 Bukola Saraki deposited at least 4.5 million dollars (4,560,871 US dollars) into his dollar accounts. It was also found in the investigation that more than 5 million dollars made its way into Bukola Saraki’s Zenith Bank account during his time as Governor of Kwara State. Altogether, from this very conservative estimate of unexplained wealth, Bukola Saraki has more than 14.1 billion naira (14,111,405,580 naira) according to declaration forms and police investigations of him. Bukola Saraki’s latest statement on this matter simply states that it is all an “outright fabrication and mischief,” while also noting that he continues to fight corruption. http://saharareporters.com/2015/09/17/assets-declaration-documents-detail-bukola-saraki%E2%80%99s-theft-and-looting lalasticlala, seun |

Politics › ICPC Arraigns 5 Directors In Niger Delta Ministry Over N655million Theft by emamos(op): 8:08pm On Sep 17, 2015 |
The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, has charged five directors in the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs to court for allegedly stealing N655 million and $100,000. The officials were arraigned before an Abuja Federal High Court, Maitama, presided over by Justice Baba Yusuf. Those charged include a former Director of Finance, Yusuf Agabi, Deputy Director of Finance, Akpore Okeroghene and Director of Finance, Ayinla Abibu. Others are Deputy Director of Accounts, Idowu Adewale and another Deputy Director, Accounts, Ntu Ngozi. The five senior officials are accused by the ICPC of stealing N655 million and $100,00 from the ministry’s account, between December 2013 and December 2014. The commission, through its counsel, Paul Bassi, filed a 22-count charge against Mr. Agabi, who is alleged to have defrauded the government of N458 million. The second accused person, Mr. Akpore, was arraigned on a 5-count charge of fraudulently obtaining N33 million, while Mr. Ayinla is docked on a 10-count charge of fraud totalling N147.5 million. The fourth and fifth accused persons, Mr. Adewale and Mrs. Ntu, were arraigned on allegations of fraudulently obtaining the sums of $100, 000 and N19 million, respectively from the ministry’s account. All offences contravene Section 13 of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act 2000, and punishable under Section 68 of the same Act. While the accused persons pleaded not guilty to the charges, the court granted them bail in the sum of N10 million each and on the condition that they produce sureties who are not less than Deputy Directors in the Federal Civil Service and resident in Abuja. They were ordered to submit their international passports to the court registrar as part of the bail conditions. The case was adjourned to October 7 for continuation of trial. http://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/headlines/190246-icpc-arraigns-5-directors-in-niger-delta-ministry-over-n655million-theft.htmllalasticlala |

Politics › PDP Only Lacks Maybe Management – Tukur by emamos(op): 5:49am On Sep 15, 2015 |
Erstwhile National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, in an interview published yesterday spoke on several issues relating to his stewardship. In the second part of the interview, Tukur speaks on his relationship with some party chieftains and gives details of the battle he had with Governor Murtala Nyako who was at that time governor of his home state, Adamawa. Excerpts: Sir, it was alleged that while you were going round as national chairman selling the party, the former chairman of BoT, Chief Tony Anenih was also doing same and some said that there was clash between the two of you. Well, if somebody wants to clash, you cannot stop them from clashing. The job of BoT is different from the job of a party chairman. But if you decide to dive into it, then you expect clash of interest. *Tukur But did you see his action, meeting with state executives as clashing with your job as the party chairman? Of course it did. It was not reconciling, let us call a spade a spade. I think the governors wanted to use him so that they can soften my position that is all. Since you were both veterans of the NPN (defunct National Party of Nigeria) did you not seek to address him? Oh yes, ask Chief Anenih. I always told him that both of us are responsible to make sure this party works and the government continues. I am sure he meant well. But my own perception was that maybe they wanted to use him to soften my own position, to try and tell them, work with the chairman knowing full well that me if they say selection, I would not agree; I would say election. Sir, did you in your heart ever forgive Nyako for not supporting you to become the national chairman? He was not a factor. What could he do? One governor when the governors, 36 states wanted me. He was not a factor. He may have prejudice. To me, an individual going against me. If I like I can call Nyako…after all, my son is married to his daughter. After you stepped down you stopped attending NEC meetings even though you are a permanent member of NEC? They were not inviting me, they will say they sent a letter to me. I am in Abuja here, they will use Jimeta address. Sir, where exactly was Atiku Abubakar on the Adamawa PDP crisis because he apparently moved positions? He has the better answer himself because for me I am as constant as the Northern Star. Ask him. Could you reflect as a governor in 1983 what is the difference between the mood and bearing of governors in your time and the governors of today? Complete difference. I can tell you when Chief Richard Akinloye (NPN national chairman) entered all of us including Shagari (president) would stand up which is what I call discipline. We waited for Akinloye together with the president until they came in. We believed in the supremacy of the party. You as a governor, you as are a president, you have only one vote. Do you think the PDP can reinvent itself and win back federal power? Why not because it is a party dominated by the grassroots. It only lacks maybe management. Why was Nyako not allowed to enter the convention ground? We had an elected state chairman but he said he wanted his own chairman who was not properly elected to be there. It was not him they refused, it was Kaigama (Nyako’s PDP factional chairman) that they refused, let us be fair. How true is it that the quarrel with Nyako was compounded by the fact that you both wanted your sons to be governor in 2015? Awwal before he intended to become governor, was also a member of the House of Representatives, chairman of committee on aviation. Should I tell Awwal because I am the chairman of the party not to vie for the position of a governor? Will it be fair? Nyako was the one who went round and promoted his son using government apparatus. I did not use party apparatus. I never went on campaign with him, never. I did not campaign, I did not tell anybody in the NWC or anybody else about my son. After all somebody who is over fifty can make a choice. Is it true you resigned as national chairman under duress? If I found Jonathan insincere, then I would have refused to resign. I resigned for peace so that PDP will remain. He didn’t want me to go. That is the president? Yes. I said the pressure on him was too much. Sule Lamido called me a virus and I replied him and said, yes I am a virus for good governance, democracy and fair play and I hope it will catch you. So what happened, I told him, I said look Mr President, I know when the two women came before king Solomon, the wisest king, he asked them what is the problem; they said one child that both of them delivered the child. So he said oh yes, let us divide the child into two so that each of you can take half of the child. One of them said no, me I won’t agree to that, rather let the child remain so that when the child grows up, he can then determine who is his real mother. King Solomon knew from that moment that the real mother is the one who wants to spare the child, the other one who wanted the child divided, did that out of jealousy. So I said to him, let me get out, let PDP survive. Let me stand aside. The letter was there which he refused to submit. I want you to get the tape of those of you who attended. All of them, all the governors praised me. For I did nothing but because they were happy I was going and I did because I wanted to save PDP. Do you feel embarrassed that the party you presided over formed a government is regularly being indicted for corruption? So far they are allegations. Of course I will feel embarrassed because the people they alleging against (unless they prove otherwise,) they are people that I know. Eightieth birthday So I feel embarrassed definitely, they are friends, they are associates, so on and so forth. So nobody can pretend to you that he is not embarrassed by these kind of things. I am not only embarrassed because of my party, I am embarrassed because of my country. I love my country. I am a Nigerian. So I am embarrassed really. Sir, you will be eighty years tomorrow. What has life taught you? Four scores, in health and vigour and still counting! I want to thank my God. Whatever I arrive at is with the cooperation, it is not me alone; I am part of those who, including all of you, who encouraged me either in my endeavour or by goodness. I can say try to do good. What you need is to be remembered for your good deeds not your bad deeds. And please understand whatever you do today becomes a history and it would be read, it will be there. So if you do bad, it will be there, it will become a history, people will read it. So please make sure you try your best to do good things.http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/09/pdp-only-lacks-maybe-management-tukur/ lalasticlala |
