Crime › Man Sentenced To 885-year Imprisonment Over Child Pornography by emamos(op): 8:25pm On Oct 13, 2015
A US Court has sentenced a 31-year-old man, Shawn Ryan Thomas, to 885 years in prison over the possession of a very large stash of child pornography.
According to the Attorney General Pam Bondi’s Office of Statewide Prosecution, the convict was sentenced on 59 counts of possession of child pornography, 15 years for each count.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement noted that the 31-year-old had a meeting with an informant online regarding a disturbing plan to kidnap a child, kill the parents and sexually assault the child while filming the acts so as to produce child pornography.
Thomas was alleged to have lured a 9-year-old girl and her parents to a vacant home last June, but the adults grew suspicious and left.
NBC reports that the convict was intercepted by FDLE before he had the opportunity to carry out his plans.http://dailypost.ng/2015/10/13/man-sentenced-to-885-year-imprisonment-over-child-pornography/

Politics › We’ll Win Boko Haram Fight Like Civil War – Obasanjo by emamos(op): 7:58am On Oct 13, 2015
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo yesterday described President Muhammadu Buhari as a good leader, saying he not only has listening ears, but is also anxious to learn.
He stated this when he led some Colombian security experts to meet with the president at Aso Rock to share their experience in tackling insurgency.
Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Obasanjo said Nigeria needed to take a cue from Colombia in respect to how that country had been able to manage that insurgency it had been battling with for more than 50 years.
He said: “I have come to see the president for two reasons. The first one is the one you have just seen: I brought a delegation of those of us who visited Colombia last year under the auspices of a foundation which I am the chairman.
“We went to Colombia to see how the Colombian authorities were handling the issue of insurgency which had been with them for more than 50 years. As a result of that visit and the experience we had, a book was produced and I said to them that it will be interesting for us in Nigeria to learn as much as we can learn from the experience of Colombia.”
On how the president reacted to their submissions, Obasanjo said, “He (Buhari) was interested. You know that one thing you can say about the president is that he is anxious to learn and he has listening ears. Of course, nobody knows it all. A good leader must seek every opportunity to learn and to put what he learns into practice.”
The former president also hinted that the second purpose of his visit to the Villa was to brief the president on the success recorded so far in resolving the political crisis in Guinea Bissau.
He said based on his visit to Guinea Bissau last Friday, where he spent last weekend and returned on Sunday morning, that country has finally agreed to put a new government in place, which would be formed either yesterday or today.
Obasanjo said, “The second aspect of my visit was the work that both the president and the ECOWAS gave me in Guinea Bissau. The last time, we were able to resolve all the issues of getting a new prime minister. This time, we had also been able to resolve the issue of now forming a government.
“If nothing intervenes, I believe, between today and tomorrow, a new government will be in place in Guinea Bissau. They have been without government for almost two months.
“When I was there, I praised the restraint of the general public and particularly the military because the military leaders hold me that for two months, they have not gotten salary. They could not even buy fuel into military vehicles and yet they continue to maintain restraints.
“That cannot go on forever. So, I hope that the actions that we have taken over the weekend (I was there on Friday morning and I left early morning of Sunday), we might be in the process of putting that behind us”.
On the lessons Nigerians can learn from insurgency in Colombia, he said, “The specific thing is that they have been fighting insurgency for 50 years. They celebrated their 50 years in existence in May last year, in fact, we went there in Junehttp://leadership.ng/news/466812/well-win-boko-haram-fight-like-civil-war-obasanjo

Politics › No Immunity For NASS Heads by emamos(op): 5:50am On Oct 12, 2015
Predictable public outrage has trailed the proposal from a section of federal lawmakers to move to change the constitution to include the Senate President and his Deputy, Speaker of the House of Representatives and his Deputy as well as the Chief Justice of the Federation in the list of public officers to enjoy the immunity clause already granted the President and Vice President as well as Governors and their Deputies in the constitution.
The Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Hon Leo Ogor, had disclosed the proposed constitution amendment, perhaps in response to the travails of the President of the Senate, Dr Bukola Saraki, who is on trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) over alleged wrongful declaration of assets when he was the Governor of Kwara State.
Indeed, federal lawmakers have tended to resort to this measure as a means of protecting the sanctity of the National Assembly from the predatory antics of the Presidency which, in the past sixteen years, had been linked with several removals or attempted removals of the heads of the two chambers of the National Assembly.
But the Seventh Senate had firmly foreclosed the change of the constitution for this purpose through its Spokesman, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe earlier this year. Abaribe described the move as unnecessary and not within contemplation. He also pointed out that legislators already enjoy immunity under the Ethics and Privileges rule, which protects them from any punitive consequence of actions and things they say while in the hallowed chambers.
We totally agree that this move is unnecessary if the protection of the leadership of the legislature from harassment is the issue. In recent years, lawmakers, especially our federal legislators, have demonstrated their ability to close ranks across party lines and protect their leadership when threatened by “external forces”. It is obvious that once the leadership continues to enjoy the support and confidence of members, the places are assured.
But if it is meant to shield them from criminal or alleged criminal misconduct, we totally oppose any such move. Public officers must answer for their misdeeds even while in office. We must strive to strengthen probity, accountability, transparency and integrity in public office, rather than introduce measures to promote impunity and corruption.
The mood of the nation is more inclined towards the removal of the immunity that the constitution currently confers on the heads of the executive branch.
Though we are certain that this proposal will be soundly defeated in a proposed constitution amendment, we insist the nation should be spared the trouble of going into it at all.
Our lawmakers should pay more attention to issues that improve the conditions of citizenry.http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/10/no-immunity-for-nass-heads/

Nairaland General › Facebook Finally Introduces ‘dislike’ Button by emamos(op): 8:17am On Oct 10, 2015
Facebook on Friday responded to solve its users’ call for a “dislike” button, in the form of six new emoji.
Speaking on the latest development, Mark Zuckerberg, Chief Executive Officer, Facebook, noted that for a long time that the feature wouldn’t be integrated in the “dislike” button that many people had asked for.
Zuckerberg hinted last month that social media site was planning to expand the ‘Like button’, thereby creating more ways for people to express their feelings.
He disclosed that the new development is going be in form of emojis that represent ‘Haha, Yay, Love, Wow, Sad and Angry.’
According to the CEO, similar to the Like button, the reactions will appear on any post in the news feed on mobile or desktop.
The number of reactions that any post has received will sit underneath the post and users will be able to see who reacted and how.
Thus, to test run the latest development, the site will start rolling out the feature in Spain and Ireland and once the buttons are rolled out to a users’ feed, there’ll be no way of turning them off.http://dailypost.ng/2015/10/10/facebook-finally-introduces-dislike-button/

Politics › Election Tribunal Chairman Proclaims “death” Upon Bribe Takers by emamos(op): 8:29pm On Oct 09, 2015
The Chairman of the Ogun State Election Petition Tribunal, Tobi Ebioewe, on Friday proclaimed curses on people he said attempted to compromise members of his panel, and prayed that those who accepted such bribes “die untimely”.
Mr. Ebioewe nullified the election of Buruji Kashamu as the senator representing Ogun East.
He also delivered judgement on 11 other cases at the Magistrate Court, Isabo, Abeokuta, Ogun.
Mr. Ebioewe said he was confident his panel members did not accept bribes, but decreed that anyone who received, face the wrath of God, and should not live to enjoy such illicit benefits.
“Anybody who has collected money to influence the judgment, may the judgement of God come upon him. I invoke the judgement of God upon the person,” the judge declared.
Mr. Ebioewe invoked the same punishment upon himself if he took bribes.
“People who make business and money are here, there are professional gamblers, nobody has given me any money. Our conscience is clear. So if you have collected money on behalf of the tribunal, you better return it. God is overall judge, hell for bribe giver and bribe takers,” the chairman emphasised.http://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/top-news/191290-election-tribunal-chairman-proclaims-death-upon-bribe-takers.html

Politics › Fulfill Terms Of Agreements Or Be Sanctioned, Saraki Tells Discos by emamos(op): 1:23pm On Oct 09, 2015
Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki has said that any electricity distribution companies who fail to live up to the terms of the agreements they reached with the Federal Government before commencing operations should be sanctioned, Vanguard reports.
Saraki made the call when the Chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), Dr. Sam Amadi, led other members of the Commission on a courtesy visit to the Senate President in Abuja.
He said the National Assembly was eager to see Nigerians enjoy power supply and at the cheapest cost possible. He also said the Senate would ensure that all acts of impunity by Discos are eradicated.
Amadi told the Senate President that the NERC was doing all it can to eliminate fixed electricity charges. Amadi said: “We have mandated Discos to find a way to restructure the fixed charge in a way that they also receive their revenue but in a manner that does not unfairly inconvenience or exploit the consumers”. He also added that one of the factors militating against increased power supply is the weak infrastructure in the country.http://www.thebreakingtimes.com/fulfill-terms-of-agreements-or-be-sanctioned-saraki-tells-discos/
Politics › MKO Abiola International Airport Will Be Ready Next Year- Osun Government by emamos(op): 10:09am On Oct 09, 2015
Contractor handling MKO Abiola International Airport in Osun State, Aeronautical Engineering and Technical Services Limited, has assured that the project would be ready for operation next May.
Managing Director of the Nigeria Air Force-owned company, Air Commodore Hyacinth Eze, stated this when he led a team of engineers handling the project to Governor Rauf Aregbesola in Osogbo.
The airport at Ido-Osun in Egbedore Local Government Area, when completed, would be a cargo and aircraft maintenance hub.
At completion, the airport, it was said, would be the first to have a hanger for maintenance of different types of aircraft and helicopters in the West African sub-region. He explained that the delay in completing the project was caused by little hitch that has been overcome.
Eze assured that work will be fast on the project site so as to meet the tentative target of eight months being proposed for full commencement of operation at the airport.
He said: “Our company has two on-going projects in the state, one, which is the most important of the projects is the airport named MKO Abiola International Airport.
“It is a project that we started and we have little hitch along the line but today, I am happy to inform you that this project is being revived.
“We have gone up to seventy per cent of the work and in another eight months we are hoping that this project will be completed and handed over to the state of Osun.”http://nationalmirroronline.net/new/mko-abiola-intl-airport-ready-next-year-osun-govt/

Politics › Nigeria: Prepare To Pay More For Electricity, Osinbajo Tells Nigerians by emamos(op): 7:18am On Oct 09, 2015
Until there is stability in the power sector, electricity tariffs cannot remain at the levels they are currently. Vice President Yemi Osinbajo said Thursday.
Speaking at the Annual General Meeting of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria, MAN, the Vice President who represented President Muhammadu Buhari as the Special Guest of Honour, said truth of the matter regarding electricity tariffs is that "at this point, if we wanted to have a cost effective tariff, the only way is to service that core value chain, the only way is to ensure that we are paying and compensating the value chain -from generation down to distribution- a cost effective tariff."
In a similar vein, the Vice President also made it clear at the meeting that a review of the CBN restrictions on foreign currency is not imminent.
His words: "I want to make it absolutely clear that the position is not that a review of the CBN restrictions on foreign exchange is imminent. It is a short term measure, not a policy, and as things improve, we will have a discussion about what to do. But certainly not that a review is about to take place."
He spoke more on the electricity tariffs:
"Power is of course crucial and as the president said in his inaugural address, to which President Mbeki referred, the question of power is one that is absolutely crucial to manufacturing and practically everything else and we shouldn't be rejoicing at 4000 Megawatts of power. But the problems are historical and several of those problems will need tackling head on, on a day-by-day basis.
"One aspect of the problem that I want to speak about, because this also affects manufacturing, is the whole idea of the tariffs. Of course the president of MAN just said that we have one of the most expensive electricity in the world.
"Now, the truth of the matter is that at this point, if we wanted to have a cost effective tariff, the only way is to service that core value chain, the only way is to ensure that we are paying and compensating the value chain -from generation down to distribution- a cost effective tariff.
You cannot have that cost effective tariff without some pay. At the moment, (when you compare) how much it costs to produce power, and the amount of power that is generated, the losses on account of distribution are significant. In some cases you have up to 40% losses in distribution, and of course it is the DisCos that have to take that burden.
"The GenCos (generating companies) are producing power but they expect to be paid for all the power that they produce. Now, if 40% of this is lost, it means the DisCos cannot collect 40%, but they have to pay for it somehow. So government has to come in and play some kind of role in order to ensure that the whole value chain is paid for.
"But the most important thing is that the cost of power is reflective of costs that have to be borrowed at every stage of the value chain and today the cost of power, if it's going to be reflective in any way is simply what it is. It will be very difficult indeed, except if we are going introduce yet another subsidy and by the way, a fair amount of that goes on already in the way that government supports the GenCos and the DisCos.
"But I think that we must be ready to accept that for a while, until things stabilize somewhat, tariffs cannot remain at the levels at which they are today, they cannot remain at that level, and that just simply is the truth of the matter.http://allafrica.com/stories/201510090094.html

Politics › My Trial Not Discussed In Meeting With Buhari – Saraki by emamos(op): 9:47am On Oct 08, 2015
Senate President Bukola Saraki on Wednesday evening said the focus of the meeting between President Muhammadu Buhari and the leadership of the National Assembly was how to better the lot of Nigerians.
He said the meeting, which was at the instance of the President, was to devise means of delivering the promises made to Nigerians during electioneering.
Saraki spoke with State House correspondents at the end of the meeting held behind closed doors at the First Lady’s Conference Hall inside the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
He said, “The meeting was an initiative of the President for an interaction with the leadership of the National Assembly.
“It was a very useful session, being the first one. This kind of interaction helps in ensuring smooth relationship between the two arms of government.
“We discussed a number of issues: some of the plans. The general commitment is that yes, the National Assembly has legislators from different parties but now we are representing Nigeria. We have a common goal to see that we work together for the interest of the country as a whole.”
When asked whether his ongoing trial by the Code of Conduct Tribunal over alleged false declaration of assets came up during the meeting, Saraki said, “We are talking about what will make Nigeria work, we are talking about the promises we made during elections.
“Those are the big issues we are talking about and to ensure that there are no distractions. The focus is to ensure that the executive arm does things in the interest of the county.
“It is normal in democratic setting, from time to time, you see the parliament talking with the executive. That is how to make things work.”
Saraki said Nigerians should be confident that the present government would work in their interest.
He promised that the two arms or government were committed to work together for the good of the people.
“What we are taking away is for Nigerians to be confident that government is working. We are committed to work together and it is going to be for the good of Nigerians at large.
“It is a good development. We are all committed to what we are all elected to do: to make Nigeria work,” he said.
Saraki also justified the absence of the Deputy President of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu, at the meeting, saying he was attending a conference outside the country at the time of the parley.
“Two people are not here because they are attending a conference. The Deputy Minority Whip in the House too is not here. It just happened that they are not in the country,” he explained.
Saraki and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, led the lawmakers to the late night meeting with the President.
Others who attended the meeting from the Senate included the Senate Majority Leader, Ali Ndume; the Deputy Majority Leader, Bala Ibn Na’Allah; Senate Minority Leader, Godswill Akpabio and Minority Whip, Philip Aduda.
Those who attended from the House of Representatives included the Deputy Speaker, Yusuf Lasun; and House Leader, Femi Gbajabiamila.

Nairaland General › THROWBACK (3): The Great Oil Robbery Under Diezani Alison-madueke by emamos(op): 8:45am On Oct 08, 2015
Just two days before the federal cabinet dissolved to allow President Goodluck Jonathan appoint a fresh one in recognition of his new electoral mandate, officials in charge of our oil and gas resources secretly signed a deal assigning production rights in at least two large oil blocks to a shadowy company with no prior experience and no fixed address.
Under the direction and with the approval of then petroleum minister Diezani Alison-Madueke, the officials with a magic wave of a pen effectively transferred hundreds of millions of US dollars – possibly billions – in public assets to private individuals without a public tender.
The deal is in apparent violation of Nigeria’s Public Procurement Act, which forbids no-tender bids for the procurement of goods and services by any government-owned institution under penalty of imprisonment.
The former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dimeji Bankole, has been arrested and remains in detention in part for allegedly violating the same law. Mr Bankole faces up to 10 years in prison if found guilty of those particular charges.
The man at the heart of this strange and secretive deal is one Jide Omokore, chairman of a company not yet a year old and which has never produced a barrel of oil. The company, Atlantic Energy Drilling Concept Limited, is the beneficiary of this gift by Mrs Alison-Madueke. For paying to the Nigerian Petroleum Development Company, a fully owned subsidiary of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (of which Mrs Alison-Madueke, as minister, was chairman) an initial “entrance fee” of slightly more than $50 million for each of the two oil fields, Atlantic now has effective control of the NPDC’s 55 percent stake in the oil block. These are rick blocks known in the industry as OML 30 and 34.
Shell, the giant multinational that produces around 50 percent of all of Nigeria’s crude, is the beneficial owner of the remaining 45 percent of the blocks. Shell had subjected its share of these oil blocks to an open and transparent competitive bidding process, fetching up to $1.3 billion in a single field. By comparison, Mrs Alison-Madueke’s no-bid approach via a so-called “Strategic Alliance Agreement” fetches the federation account an upfront cash payment of little more than $50 million. The true market value, if the Shell approach had been followed, would have been upwards of $1.5 billion.
Mrs Allison-Madueke has shut out established industry players, including local companies, by opting for these secret deals. The transcripts of these “strategic alliance” agreements can be found on our web site, 234NEXT.com.
As she campaigns furiously for reappointment into Mr Jonathan’s cabinet, whose nominees may be sent to the Senate for approval as early as this week, Mrs Alison-Madueke has become a major political burden for the president. Her presence in the new government is certain to prove a distraction to the president, who has expressed a strong determination to steer the country away from its persistent underperformance and avarice. As in the past, all attempts to reach Mrs Alison-Madueke for comment were rebuffed. She has said elsewhere that she did nothing wrong and threatens to sue us for exposing these deals.
“The question is why?” said one prominent energy sector source. “Why these particular companies and these particular individuals? Why do these deals secretly? Why deny experienced industry players the opportunity to bid for the same contracts?”

Crime › Ekiti Jails 574 For Flouting Environmental Laws by emamos(op): 9:35pm On Oct 07, 2015
The Ekiti State Government has convicted no fewer than 574 persons at the Mobile Court for Environmental Offences, for contravening the State Environmental Health and Sanitation Law, in the last one year.
The government has also warned against smoking Tobacco in public places, saying the Tobacco Prohibition Law would be strictly enforced.
At a ministerial press briefing in Ado Ekiti on Wednesday, the Commissioner for Environment, Bisi Kolawole, said the offenders were jailed in accordance with the Ekiti State Environmental Law number 4 of 2004.
According to him, 354 offenders were convicted for flouting the monthly environmental sanitation exercise .
Kolawole, who declared that the offenders were given option of fines, added that 220 persons were jailed for offences ranging from “open defecation, dumping of refuse into drainages, and canals, and illegal trading on the roadsides,” among others.
The commissioner said the Waste Management Authority had generated N456m, while another N56m was generated through sawmill licensing, hammer control, minor forest produce, forest logging and toll collection.
He added that government had dredged over 37,000 metres of stream to control flooding in Ado Ekiti metropolis.
Kolawole said the ministry would no longer tolerate siting of petrol stations beside commercial or residential buildings.
“In spite of the sensitisation and moratorium given for all residential houses to have a toilet and a waste bin, people are still not cooperating. We have three months moratorium to meet these conditions but nobody has been prosecuted even a year after because Fayose operates a people-oriented government.
“It is now compulsory for every residence to have a toilet; failure to do this the state government shall take you to court,” he said.http://www.punchng.com/news/ekiti-jails-574-for-flouting-environmental-laws/

Politics › SAN: Buhari Can Appoint Himself A Minister Except Justice Minister by emamos(op): 9:21pm On Oct 07, 2015
As the controversy over the decision of President Muhammadu Buhari to appoint himself minister of petroleum rages, a constitutional lawyer and author, Sabastine Hon (SAN) has said the president has the constitutional power to do so.
Hon said the president's self appointment as minister of petroleum was moral, lawful, constitutional and valid.
According to him, Section 5(a) of the 1999 constitution as amended has provided for the executive functions of the Federation to be performed by the President "directly or through the Vice-President and Ministers of the Government of the Federation or officers in the public service of the Federation."
He argued that, the "or" separating "directly" and "through" in the paragraph means the president is at liberty, subject to other provisions of the constitution, to assign any ministry to himself or to assign it to the vice-president, a minister or any of the other persons named in the paragraph.
This position, he stated “is reinforced by the provisions of sections 130(2) and 148(1) of the constitution.
He states that while section 130(2) has made the President the Chief Executive of the Federation, section 148(1) provides that the president may, in his discretion, assign to the vice-president or any minister of the government any executive functions.http://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/san-buhari-can-appoint-himself-a-minister-except-justice-minister/222151/

The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Mr. Ibrahim Lamorde, has said that tracing looted funds and assets abroad is cumbersome.
He recommended the establishment of special courts to fast track prosecution of suspects on trial for corruption.
He also said the EFCC has written the Senate on the alleged diversion of N1.3trillion seized from convicts.
He said it was unfortunate that some people behind the allegation do judge others by their standards.
Lamorde made the disclosures in an interview with BBC which was reproduced in EFCC Alert Magazine and made available to journalists in Abuja on Monday.
He said: “You see, whatever you do, one must be conscious that it is within the ambit of the law, so there are no shortcuts to investigating and prosecuting corruption cases. Everything must be done according to what the law provides.
“People expect magic and it doesn’t work that way. In developed countries of the world, if we look at all corruption cases, none of their investigations and prosecutions has lasted less than five years.
“I give you the example of James Ibori (a former governor of Delta State), that is serving jail term in United Kingdom. We started working with the Metropolitan Police on this case around 2005, they didn’t go to court until 2009 or 2010 and some of the processes are still in court like the confiscation process.
“Nobody keeps resources, funds or assets in their names within the jurisdiction where they commit such offences. Most times, they move out of their immediate jurisdiction. So, the processes of tracking these assets and funds that are stolen are cumbersome.
“Once it is not done within your jurisdiction, it becomes issues of cooperation with other law enforcement agencies in other countries and that takes time.
“Not only that, trying to identify these assets also takes a lot of resources and time.”
On alleged diversion of N1.3trillion by EFCC, Lamorde said the anti-graft agency has written the Senate on issues raised by a petitioner, George Uboh.
He added: “It’s true that such allegation has been made but we have written to the Senate. We have respectfully responded to the letter of invitation sent to us, explaining why we were not able to go by the date given. We think that based on what we have written to them, a new date should be given to us for us to engage them to discuss the issue concerned.
“We have engaged the services of a reputable audit firm since last year to work on all assets that have been seized and recovered by the EFCC.
“We want to have a comprehensive report that will stand the test of time. I’m not only talking about 2012 to 2015 that I am in charge of affairs, I asked them to look from the day the commission was created, that is April 2003 to date, so that we have a comprehensive report we can put in public space. Any person who has issues with that can challenge it and we will look at it.
“You see, people judge others by their standards. If they are entrusted with public funds, they will misuse it. So they just assume every other person can do the same. So, they look at you from their own perspective of what they may do or what they are doing. I think that is what is happening.
Lamorde also said he is in support of the creation of special courts to try financial crimes suspects
He said the special courts would hasten the trial of suspects accused of corrupt practices.http://thenationonlineng.net/tracing-looted-funds-assets-abroad-cumbersome-lamorde/

Crime › Alison-madueke’s Arrest Splits Niger Delta Groups by emamos(op): 7:02pm On Oct 04, 2015
*It’s Selective Persecution – CEMEDEC
-
*She Should Rot In Jail – NDF
Groups in the Niger Delta region have expressed different views on the arrest of the former minister of petroleum in the administration of the President Goodluck Jonathan, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke, in London, United Kingdom.
The Centre for Media and Development Communication (CEMEDEC), in a statement in Port Harcourt on Sunday said although no official reasons have been advanced for the arrest and detention of the former minister, it is alleged that the arrest was in connection with the looting of public funds.
Programme director of the group, Styvn Obodoekwe, said, “While we support any step taken to checkmate corruption in the society and bring corrupt officials to book, as corruption and bad governance are known to be responsible for the backwardness of Nigeria, we consider the ordeals of Diezani as part of the oppression being meted out on those opposed to the emergence of President Muhammadu Buhari and his APC party as the rulers of this country, Nigeria.
“We have no doubt that the arrest, and detention of Diezani and the looting and sealing up of her Abuja home has nothing to do with Buhari’s much trumpeted anti-corruption crusade.”
Obodoekwe alleged that the arrest was, “rather a selective persecution and victimisation of opposition members, especially those from the Niger Delta. Neither Buhari nor Britain can claim to be interested in fighting corruption in Nigeria or anywhere for that matter when they have continued to flirt with and to shield members of the APC like Olusegun Obasanjo, Bola Tinubu, Rotimi Amaechi, Timipre Sylva and Raji Fashola, known to have wreaked havoc on public treasuries.
“There are weighty evidence of corruption against these people, yet Buhari and his UK cohorts have continued to shun every call for their prosecution”.
Meanwhile, the Niger Delta Frontiers (NDF) has said that Buhari ought to have applied for the extradition so that Diezani could be tried in Nigeria for allegedly looting the country.
Coordinator of the group, Dr. Sam Epiye, in a telephone interview Sunday, said the sharia law should be applied in “dealing” with corrupt people in the country and “whoever is found guilty irrespective of where the person comes from should be executed.”
He noted that the present economic predicament the country faces was due to an unprecedented “looting of the treasury by officials of the past administration under Jonathan,” insisting that Alison-Madueke deserves the ordeal she is going through.
“We support President Buhari’s anti-corruption drive all the way. People like Diezani should rot in jail for their roles in causing avoidable hardship for Nigerians,” he said
