Dear fellow colleagues, I am not surprised with the level of deterioration in NOUN, if you followed my previous messages about NOUN with other great colleagues like Anthony et al, then will could conclude that Nigeria government is not ready for open University.

The level of injustice to the students is on acceptable and many can't approach any study centre with hope that issues will be resolved.

I am not bother about these but little I have suffered for in NOUN.

I hope that one day, NOUN SUG will come out either as online protest against the leaders of the school and condemned there autrocities and injustice done by the school.

We need answers to so many questions? Why we are cut short of our Portal without information, why we pay course reg and yet errors in modules and shortages of modules? Why social classes have divided the school ( bribe and corruption) by staff and rich students, why our results are missing and TMAs are not computed well. With many more

There are lots to be told about NOUN but I hope our results released before will not be different from the one will see in this new portal.

Honestly, until we stand up and defend ourself as make sure that our hard earned money is of great successes to us.

Why NOUN can’t send graduates to Law School, NYSC – Prof. Adamu
By Yusha’u A. Ibrahim, Kano | Publish Date: Jan 8 2017 2:00AMProfessor Abdallah Uba Adamu is the vice chancellor of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN). In this interview with Daily Trust on Sunday, he rolled out the university’s plans for 2017 and why its Law graduates should be recognised by the Council for Legal Education. He also explained why the institution would employ 50 PhD holders, saying their graduates are eligible for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme.

Heads of government agencies have started rolling out their plans for 2017. What should Nigerians expect from the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) this year?

First of all, we are going to launch our new integrated website this month. We are also hoping to streamline our 78 study centres across the country. All of them have one problem or another. Some of them are physical while others have to do with human capacity.

We are coming up with a very strong integrated approach in order to ensure that we provide services to our clients much more effectively. So, our hope for this year is that our study centres would be more empowered and strengthened in order to operate at their full capacities. We also hope to employ at least 50 academic staff, professors, doctors, senior lecturers and lecturer I; all of them with PhDs. We no longer employ any academic staff who does not have a PhD. The reason is that NOUN is not a conventional university with classrooms where you can employ a graduate to teach as an assistant lecturer. We communicate with students through a distance learning method. We have to write the study materials, and this requires expertise and somebody who is good in research, investigation and worthy in writing reports.

Currently, we have about 83 of our staff members who are outside the country or outside the campus studying for PhD in various fields, and this is massively drawing on our resources. So instead of spending so much money in training staff, we will rather employ readymade PhD holders so that we can create a stronger structure. We are also hoping to introduce more attractive courses. It doesn’t make sense to come up with programmes that look wonderful on paper but not many people will subscribe for it.

The NOUN is in disagreement with its internet service providers, which led to the shutdown of its portal. What actually happened?

When I took over, I discovered that our services were rendered by two outside companies. These companies managed all our data resources, handled the admission, examinations and posting. To me, it doesn’t make sense to allocate massive resources to an outside agency or company when you have competent hands within the system.

We have a Department of Computer Science headed by a PhD holder in that field. We also have people in that department who are excellent when it comes to web design and so on. We even sent some of our staff for training in web design and internet technology. So it doesn’t make sense that we have all these, yet we are out-sourcing to somebody else. I thought the best thing was to look inwards and strengthen our capacity, identify key people who are good and empower them with necessary equipment so that they can come up with our own portal, and we have done that.

Naturally, the companies are not happy with this development because we have told them that we are going to cut off our relation because we have our own portal. In June last year, we told them that by the end of September we would close the agreement. We closed the agreement, but we faced some problems because the data is still with them. So we asked them to bring it because based on the agreement we entered, if any of the party decides to terminate the contract, they should hand over all the data. But they refused, and that is the problem we are facing at the moment.

Quite a pathetic situation that NOUN website could be down for so long. Still wondering why any thing that has to do with the government in Nigeria is always inefficient and handled carelessly by the staff. From communications to electricity, to security, to healthcare to education, to anything government!
This is why am often in support of privatization. Could NOUN be down for so long if it were privately managed with the owners loosing money per hour of the down-time? Just wondering! Dr

And they will say 'Government property is nobody's property'! same adage that will never allow Nigeria to progress and why many serious-minded Nigerians who can find their way simply leave the country. Same selfishness and greed that runs in the veins of the typical Nigerian politician, where the National pledge means absolutely nothing to them (that's if they even know what the pledge is).

As a 'frustrated' M.Sc Info Tech student of NOUN since 2013, I cant but feel bad over the many inefficiencies I noticed with NOUN system.
First the careless attitude of the staff at the centres, and then recounting my experience after investing as much as I could and studying as hard as I could in a bid to finish up the programme as soon as possible; only to be given one carry over in a core course; and after battling with project work (project fees of 40k to NOUN, and literally begging the supervisor to supervise my work and to collect 20k instead of the 50k he asked as he said NOUN owes him for many months so the students must pay the cost, 60k total, all for doing 'nothing') yet after all the stress, NOUN still cant produce my project result after almost 2 years and after re-submitting the project work 3 good times at my own expense, the first 2 the HQ said they never got or cant find while my SC says they sent them, the last one I submitted at the HQ in Lagos months ago which am hoping will work out finally.

And after 'painfully' paying NOUN almost 30k just for me to resit the 1 carryover paper, I cant access NOUN website nor the TMA portal.
Cant say more, can only wish I never wasted my time and finances to run my M.Sc programme at NOUN.

Indeed! The inefficiency in the Nigeria government systems is quite appalling, NOUN is only one of them, only God can help this country cause the change everyone is clamouring for still seems way too far away as long as this mindset of greed and selfishness remains in the Nigeria system. What poverty has done to Nigeria and Nigerians though!
Is very pathetic, I am in your shoe too. But Noun is just not trying to help. My missing results now become 7 even with projects of 25k and T.P 10k Nd bribe to supervisor too. I regretted investing in Noun and we are telling people that they should abscond but they want to listen
