"God’s gift to you is your potential, what you do with it is your gift to God. He’s concerned not only about what you’re but about what you can become.’’-John Maxwell

According to the Collins English dictionary, the word potential means the following:

· Possible but not yet actual

· Capable of being or becoming

· Latent but unrealized ability or capacity

One of the greatest lessons I have learned from nature is that the future, beauty, and the greatness of anything resides within it, and that everything has naturally been endowed with the capacity to fulfill the purpose for which it was created. For example, the future of a maize plant lies in its seed, the future of a human being lies in the union of the egg and spermatozoa, the future of gold and diamond lies in their ores and so on. These initial phases are called potentials.

Anytime I think of the capacity that God has put into the being of an average man, I always get amazed. Human being is the most power creature on earth. Man is wired with the capacity to do what is practically impossible to a logical mind. The word of Ralph Waldo Emerson is true for all human being, he said, ‘’Nobody and not even you can tell exactly what you can do until you do it.’’

Let us a take a look at some of the unbelievable achievements of the creative genius of man since the dawn of civilization:

Man has advanced from a fruit gatherer and hunter to the 21st century farmer that don’t only grows his own crops, but make use of sophisticated tools and implements such as plough, bulldozer, combine harvester in carrying out his farming activity. Unlike the primitive farmers, he can now take advantage of scientific discoveries and innovations in improving his crops, control pest, and create new varieties of crop or crop species using genetic principles. He can also control weeds and the activities of pest, parasites and rodents using herbicides and pesticides.

In the area of technology, man has done so many things a logical mind would probably think are impossible. Man has invented motor vehicles, airplanes, rockets, atomic bomb, ship, the internet, and computers and so on.

In the area of art and culture, man has analyzed life and death, good and evil, and developed human psychology. Man has invented government, politics, communication, commerce, religion and so on. The works of great thinkers like Carl Jung, Sigmund Freud, Williams Shakespeare, and Napoleon hill are evidence of this fact.

In the field of medicine, man has studied the entire human anatomy and physiology, and those of other living organisms, he has discovered how various human ailments are caused and has invented cure for many diseases that have been dreadful and inimical to the life of man here on earth.

Man invented science as a tool for analyzing and solving his major problems. Man has made a lot of breakthroughs in science which has contributed immensely, or constitutes the basis of the current level of technology worldwide. Such breakthroughs include, the discovery of the theory of gravity and calculus by Isaac Newton, theory of relativity and quantum mechanics by Einstein to mention but a few.

Nobody would have been able to predict that the human race would come this far in advancement considering the physical condition and lifestyle of the early man. The truth is that man’s potential to attain his current level of advancement was already with the early man, but remain latent until it was gradually utilized throughout the past centuries, to place man where he is today, and this is but the beginning of the advancement .The most powerful tool, and as well as the greatest weakness of man is his imagination. Anything that is conceivable can be translated into reality .That is what history has taught us. On the other hand if we unconsciously incapacitate our creative ability by believing that certain things are impossible, they will remain impossible. Jesus once said, ‘’to him that believes all things are possible.’’ This is not far from the truth.

Every human being is loaded with unlimited potential, but it’s so unfortunate that only very few people have integrated this belief into their paradigm. Greatness is locked up on the inside of every man, and it will never manifest until it is released. Nobody was born empty, we are all designed to do the unbelievable and attain incredible heights in life.

A lot of people are struggling, unhappy and have no sense of fulfillment in their chosen career today because they are into what they are not naturally design for. It is not every seed that can grow into a mango tree, so also is the seed of greatness in you. By your potentials, you are designed to excel in certain industry, such that if you can discover it and go into it, the sky will not be your limit. Just try to think about this. How easy will it be trying to fix a square peg into a round hole? Obviously doing so would be a very difficult task. As it is difficult to fix a square peg into a round hole, so also it would be difficult to excel in a career which one does not have the latent capacity that can cope with its demands.

You are created to perform a role in life that no one can live out except you, I personally believe that this role is God’s gift to lift and make you great in life. Charles Gordon, the author of when the going gets tough, the tough get creative once said, ‘’I reckon that if He took the trouble to give each of us unique fingerprints and individualized DNA, surely he has a unique plan and purpose for each of our lives, a plan that no one can live out.’’ The worst thing that can ever happen to a man in life is to live and die without fulfilling the purpose for which he was created. The reality is that more than 80% of people who have passed through this planet earth are victims. They died with the bag of treasure in them; no wonder they say that the grave is the richest place on earth.

Having known that you are here on earth for a purpose, and that your potentials are the raw materials or tools that you need to fulfill that purpose and become a successful individual, then it is left for you to decide to discover your own potential, and maximize it to become one of the icons of change in your generation or ignore it, and keep struggling in the rat race for the rest of your life, the choice is in your hand.

Career / Time: Your Greatest Asset by Emasky4real(m): 6:44am On Nov 03, 2015
Time is a universal asset. Everything created on the surface of the earth operates with time. It is an evenly distributed commodity. Nature makes time available for everybody and everything without partiality. Everywhere in the world, 60 seconds make a minute, 60 minutes make an hour, 24 hours make one day, 7 days make a week, 4 weeks make a month, and 365 and 366days make a year and a leap year respectively.

Every man whether fat or thin, handsome or ugly, wise or foolish, tall or short, weak or strong, a servant or an executive is given 24 hours every day to use as he wishes. He’s free to use the time to build his life or ruin it. He has the right to do whatever he likes with it, but has no choice of the consequence. However he can determine the consequence by the way he uses the time. The 24 hours given is very essential, but more essential is what is done with it.

Check this out:

Statistics show that if you take 100 people and start them at the same place at the age of 19, by the time they are 65 year old, only one will be wealthy, 4 will be financially secure, 19 will still be working to simply survive, 22 will be diseased, and 54 will be flat broke, and dependent on their families or government for their survival.

If one is to make an inquiry of why majority of people fail to realize their full potential in life, obviously there will be several factors to explain why they fail, however one great factor that put people into where they belong in life is time. You’ll probably say time is partial if that is the case, and question why it will choose to set some people at the top of the pyramid and put some, usually the majority at the bottom. Do you know that in reality time does not have its own power to determine where you’ll belong? You are actually responsible to dictate to time where it should fix you, and these we all do either consciously or unconsciously through the way we use our time on daily basis. If you are not satisfied with the result you’ve gotten from life so far, simply ask yourself this question, and be sincere to yourself by the answer you give to it, ‘’how have I been spending my time?’’

The use of time is what differentiates a first class student from students with poor grades. It’s what makes a man serve as a gate man to his age mate. Time is what makes some people stand out of the crowd, while the majorities perish in the mainstream of life.

One of my greatest discoveries is that life outcomes are directly proportional to the use of time. If you want to be a person of significance, then try to make the best use of your time, and your desired outcome will be glaring to your world in the fullness of time. A personal development expert once said that ‘’how far a person will go in life is determined by the way he spend the first 25 years of his life.’’ One of the greatest offenses a person can commit is wasting the valuable life's offer called time. It is an offense against humanity. The reason is because the current civilization and technological innovation that the world is enjoying today were invented by great minds that properly deployed their time within their scope of existence, and if they had done otherwise, humanity would have still been operating at the technological level of Stone Age.

The world will always remember the likes of Thomas Edison, Michael Faraday, Benjamin Franklin, Galileo, and a host of others who have through creative use of time etch their names on the sand of time.

Benjamin Mays is one of legends who understood the nature of time. He said, “I have only just a minute, only sixty seconds in it. Forced upon me, can’t refuse it. Didn’t seek it, didn’t choose it, but it is up to me to use it. It must suffer if I lose it, give account if I abuse it.’’

Friends, be frank with yourself, and meditate about this question, in the next ten-twenty years, where will what you are doing with my time now position you?

I see a lot of youths wasting their time and energy on things that have no bearing on the kind of future they wish for. Time is a non-renewable asset, it is perishable, and once it is lost it can never be regained. Due to this non-renewable nature of time, time ought to be invested into something worthwhile that can yield good fruits in the future and not to be squandered.

A time management expert suggested that his clients should learn to ask themselves this basic question, "what is the best use of my time now?" Any seconds of our existence that is wasted is life wasted. Benjamin Franklin, a notable scientist, and one of the great presidents the United States of America ever had said, "he who loves life should not waste time, for that is the stuff that life is made of."

Any moment you waste a second of the time allotted to your existence here on earth, then you have ceased to live, in other words you have become a dead man, only a dead person have nothing to do with time, but the moment you begin to creatively and consciously deploy your time, then you are back to existence. Show me a time waster, then I will show you a living dead.

Many history makers are dead, but their work speaks centuries after their departure. It will surprise you to know that many people are still alive, but they are dead already, because they are not doing anything significant with their time. Are you a living dead or true living being? Your time usage determines your placement into either of the groups. If you fail in life, you have no one but yourself to blame, because God gives everyone equal time to maximize his/her potentials. It is the way you use this precious gift called time that will ultimately determine what you will become at the end.

Always remember that time wasted can never be regained.

Besides working in an organization to earn money, having a personal business is one of the ways of solving our financial problem, and attaining financial freedom. In fact, without engaging in business it might be impossible to become free financially. If you are to take an inventory of people with great financial success, you will discover that 99% of them are business owners.

Since the time money was created, people no longer exchange goods for goods, but rather exchange money for goods and services according to the worth or value of the product or service. This new form of exchange makes people to start thinking of, and creating products and services other people are willing to pay for. However it is important to note that not all business ideas are viable. So many business ideas as good as they seem cannot produce the desired profit or result because of certain reasons. Consultants who are vast in business research have found out that 80% of businesses fail due to lack of sale. This means that sale is the sole driver of all successful business. Even common sense justifies that no business will succeed if sale is lacking.

Before one ventures into any business, it is important to provide answer to some important questions. A man once said that “questions are spirit searchlight”. The questions am going to suggest here are business telescope to help you understand thoroughly if the business idea you are thinking about is a viable one or an idea that will crash after implementation. I learned these questions the hard way because when I started my first business it failed, but as I move ahead in life trying other businesses and observing the business of the people around me I began to understand why business fail. The questions are as follows:

(1) What product or service do you want to produce?

The answer to this question is the simplest to most people. Before you embark on any venture, you must have a clear knowledge of the product or service that you want to sell. By this question, I mean, what commercial idea do you have? Is it to start the production of a particular product or to begin to sell your skill in form of service? You must know exactly what the idea Is all about.

(2)Are there people who need the product or service?

Of course you have gotten a business idea, but it is essential to know if there is a market for the product or service. Any product or service that is not needed by a considerable number of people is a useless one. You will be the one to consume it yourself. It is not all business ideas that work. For any business to thrive people must be willing to pay for the product and they must have the capacity to pay. Only business ideas in this category can be called a business opportunity. Never confuse a business idea with a business opportunity. For a business idea to be translated into a business opportunity the idea must offer a viable solution to a problem experienced by potential consumers and for which they are willing to pay. A business idea no matter how novel it is cannot be a business opportunity, if customers cannot see its added value, and therefore unwilling to pay for it. Before you proceed to the implementation of that idea of yours, are you sure it passes this test? Be sure, if not discard it may not work.

(3)What is the level of income of the people who need the product or service?

This is where the capacity to pay for the goods or service comes in. some product are highly needed, but the targeted market may not have the financial strength to afford it easily. They may have to save for a while before they can afford such product or service. This will affect your business in the sense that sales will be slow, and that may discourage you to quit the business. A business worth investing in by a young entrepreneur is one which the targeted market will need not break a bank before they can afford. Think of such service or product when embarking on a start up.

(4)How often will they need your product or service?

The essence of going into business in the first place is to create value in form of product or service that can meet people’s need, and profit thereby. So in a situation where people refuse to buy your product, the overall objective has been thwarted. Some product or service may have a high demand backed up with purchasing power by the targeted market, but the rate or frequency of demand by buyers may be low. For instance, certain goods don’t command frequency of demand as a result of their nature. Products in this category are those who after purchasing, one may not need to purchase another one until the one bought becomes faulty, or one decides to change to a better type of such product. Example of goods in this category is electronic devices, books, bags and so on. I don’t encourage upcoming entrepreneurs who are still struggling financially to invest in such product or service.

Products that are in high demand, and affordable by the target market and accompanied by frequent demand per buyer will definitely generate high sale. Products in this category are those products that are easily exhaustible, and are highly needed for our daily activities. Example is fuel, such as kerosene, petrol, diesel, engine oil, and firewood. People must cook, and they must power their car, and machines. And after exhausting the one purchased the individual must go for another one. Other goods in this category are shoes, clothes, soap, stationery, pampers for babies, food stuff and so on. if your product or service passes this test, and the rest, the workability of your business idea is guaranteed

(5)Where are the people (target market) located?

One critical factor to consider before going into any business is the location of the target market. If proper decision is not taken in line with this factor, one may end up regretting. You must know if the people who need the product or service are concentrated in a particular place, or scattered. If they are concentrated in a particular place, the cost of marketing will be drastically reduced, sales rate with be fast and high, and more profit will be generated. But if the market population are scattered, there will be need to move from one geographical area to another, and that will consequently increase expenses and thus reduce profit, and reduction in the speed of sale.

(6)Do you have sufficient capital to run the enterprise?

One of the critical questions you must solve before you launch out is whether you have sufficient capital to launch the business idea or not. A lot of businesses fail due to lack of sufficient capital to see the venture through, especially in time of financial crises. Every would be entrepreneur is expected to do an accurate estimation of the amount of money and other form of capital that the business opportunity will require before starting, this is necessary so as to prevent the crash of the business. There are cases where a business folds up for a while and later needs to be revived after a while or may even collapse completely due to lack of money to fund certain project that are essential for its survival.

However, it has often been said that dream big, but be ready to start small. To start a business it not really compulsory you start it in the big way you want it to be. You may start small with what you have and expand as the business grows. The owners of highly successful businesses or brands in the world today such as coca cola, Dangote group, Facebook, Google, Apple, and Microsoft all started small with their little capital and grow the business to what they are today. Whether you are starting small or big, be sure you have enough capital and reserved capital that will see the business through.

(7)Are there people who are producing the product or service already?

It is important to find out if someone else is already doing the business we are planning to do. This helps a lot, as it can help one to know the weakness of their product or service and thus improving on it thereby creating a better product or service. It will also enable one to know the area of the market they’ve covered so as to help one identify a fresh market. One can as well learn what not to do from those who are already doing it.

However, if the venture is a fresh one without any competitor, one will have to put up strategy on how to combat the effects of competitors incase they venture into the venture in the future.

Final advice: At this point I will emphatically say that you should never start any business without having an alternative source of income or some saved amount of many that will enable you meet your daily needs while your business is growing. It is an act of foolishness to put all your resources into a business and assume you will start making money as soon as the business kicks off. If you have never been into business before, I want you to know that the first few months is the toughest. If you are into sales for instance, for the first few weeks you may not record any remarkable sales. Every business needs some time to grow before yielding profits. This is the single reason why business consultants often advice entrepreneurs never to quit the job that provide them steady income before launching their business. Getting money from a steady source of income while your business is growing will reduce the impact of the frustration lack of sale brings

Religion / 5 Key Life Lessons From The Parable Of The Talents by Emasky4real(m): 1:55am On Oct 26, 2015
One of the many parables said by Jesus of Nazareth is the parable of the talents. This parable though simple, but it’s loaded with critical life lessons. According to the book of Matthew 25:14-30 of the English standard version (ESV) of the bible, the story goes does.

For it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted to them his property. To one he gave five talents to another two, to another one, to each according to his ability. Then he went away.

He who had received the five talents went at once and traded with them, and he made five talents more. So also he who had the two talents made two talents more. But he who had received the one talent went and dug the one talent in the ground and his master’s money.

Now after a long time, the master of those servants came and settled accounts with them. And he who had received the five talents came forward, bringing five talents more, saying master, ‘master, you delivered to me five talents; here I have made five talents more. His master said to him, ‘well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the Joy of your master.’

And he who had two talents came forward, saying master, you delivered to me two talents; here I have made two talents more. His master said to him ‘well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.

He also who had received the one talent came forward, saying, ‘ master I knew you to be a hard man, reaping where you did not sow and gathering where you scattered no seed, so I was afraid, and I went and hide your talent in the ground. Here you have what is yours.’

But his master answered him, you wicked and slothful servant! You knew that I reap where I have not sown and where I scattered no seed? Then you ought to have invested my money with the bankers, at my coming, I would have received what is mine with interest. So take the talent from him and give it to him who has the ten talents. For to everyone who has will more be given, and he will have an abundance. But from the one who has not, what he has will be taken away. And cast the worthless servant into the outer darkness. In that place where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

I interpret the master in this passage as the universe, God, nature, or life. The servants constitute everyone in the world, while the talents are the things life offer individuals, both positive and negative. How each servant handles his talents is interpreted as how we respond to what life offer us. The following life lessons can be derived from this parable.

1. We are equally born but not equally endowed: It is a fact that we are all born into this world, but not every one of us is equally endowed. Some are born with a silver spoon while some are born into abject poverty, some are born genius while some are born mentally retarded, and some are highly talented while some are not. Having known this, it is our responsibility to accept the things life has endowed us with and create the kind of life we desire from it.

2. Do not compare yourself with others: The master in the parable of the talents gave each servant talents according to their abilities. The one with five talents traded and gain more five, making his total to be ten, while the one given two talents traded with his own talents and gain another two making his own total to be four. One big mistake we often make as individuals is the habit of comparing ourselves with others. We always seek to be at the same level with those we think are better than us in some ways and if possible to even out-shine them. When we don’t meet up with this expectation then we begin to see ourselves as failure, when in reality we are not, provided we are doing our best, and I mean the best. The servant that was given two talents gained more two, but his total was four, while the servant that was given five talents had ten as his total. By comparison the man with four will be perceived as a failure, when his total talents is compared to the servants with 10, in ratio 4:10, which is the world’s standard of measuring success, but judging based on where they both started from, they are both equal in their achievement. That your current level of achievement is far below that of your mates doesn’t mean you are lazy, most often it is because of the resources that was available to you when you started. Sometimes what makes the difference might be one’s family background, education, right information at the right time, being at the right place and doing the right thing, level of motivation, the intensity desire and so on. We are not equally endowed with these things. However, no matter how small you are today in certain area of your life, if you keep working on improving it, you will definitely grow bigger in the fullness of time.

3. You must start where you are with what you have: The men with five and two talent respectively didn’t consider the value of what they had to be too small to begin a particular kind of trading. They both look for businesses they could do with the money as soon as possible and began trading with their talents. As at the time of the return of their master, they have multiplied their talents. The man with one talent probably concluded in his mind that such amount was too small for any form of business, and was afraid of losing it, so he decided to bury it, knowing that whether he likes it or not, he must give account to his master when he returns. It is so unfortunate that his decision was a foolish one. We must know that there is no perfect time for anything, and no amount of money is too small to begin the journey to financial freedom. With wisdom, hard work and some level of luck, nothing shall be impossible. IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF EVERY MAN TO BEGIN WHERE HE IS AND WITH WHAT HE HAS.

4. If you don’t use what you have you will lose it and vice versal: It is no news that what is not used will be lost. The man with one talent refuses to appreciate what he was given, instead of trading with it, he buried it. At the end, his one talent was given to the servant with ten, what a loss. IN LIFE THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS OVERNIGHT SUCCESS. Most of the people who are highly successful today started small, gain experience, learn and grow to what they are today. THE LADDER OF SUCCESS CAN ONLY BE CLIMBED ONE RUNG AT A TIME. The initial rung gives room to the next. The small engagements and opportunities of today are the doors to the big opportunities we desire to experience. The master in the parable promised to put the servants with two and five talents respectively in charge of greater things for being faithful in small things. This is exactly how it works in real life. Do not despise the days of little beginning.

James Allen in his book from poverty to power validated this simple truth by saying ‘’ be sure by first of all that you are the best of what you have. Do not delude yourself into supposing that you can step into greater advantages while overlooking small ones, for if you could, it would be impermanent and you would quickly fall back again in order to learn the lesson you have neglected……………before you can have greater good which you so desire, must you faithfully employ that which you already posses.’’

5. You must reap what you sow: One of the most powerful laws that govern life is the law of sowing and reaping. Some experts refer to it as the law of cause and effect. This law is the iron law of destiny. This is the one law given to man via which he can create his own destiny. I have seen so many persons who engage in all sort of evil acts, and sometimes things that are detrimental to their future in the name of being smart. If you are such a person, sorry, you are not smart, you are actually foolish and the fruit of your actions of today will prove it to you when they become fully ripe. The three servants were given talents freely but the master didn’t tell them what to do with it, but it was certain they will all give account when he returns.

One thing that is constant in life is outcome. In other words, for every action there will be an outcome. Knowing that outcomes are constant, it is in your hands to determine the kind of outcome you want, because if you fail to determine outcome, outcome has a way of determining itself. Each of the servants in the parable of the talents determined their outcome by what they choose to do with the talent their master gave to them. What has life given you? Life, good health, intelligence, suffering, wisdom, talents, money, power, and fame you may include yours in the list. Always have it in mind that what you do with these things has a way of determining your future. You create your destiny every second by the thoughts you choose to entertain and the action you take. You may not see the result of your actions yet, that does not mean you are smart. The day of reckoning is inevitable.
