Apparently, I understand there's a difference between both words. You only to look deeper into my post to ascertain we're on the same page.

We need goals to achieve our dreams. My dream is to be a highly-sought-after cardiologist in the us, (for instance), then a part of my goals should be passing USMLE 1 in flying colour.

This' where the Nigerian youths are failing. we're failing not in the dearth of dreams, rather in the setting of goals. Ask an average university student in Nigeria what his dream is, he has plethora. Ask him his goals for the year..., he probably has none.

You are on point.

Nigeria will make more sense if we youths can replace the 'abused' word- dream, with the word 'goal'.

Dream and goal are not the same. A dream is just something you wish to have or a height you desire to attain. Dream, wish, desire, and ambition can be used interchangeablely. Dream is vague and broad.
To achieve a dream, it is important to set goals, which will consist of series of tasks or activities to be carried out for a dream to be a reality.
A goal is a dream with a deadline. It contains specific action(s) to be carried out within a specific period of time.
When a dream comes true, then we can say we have attained success as far as that dream is concerned.
What is success? Napoleon Hill defines it as A PROGRESSIVE ACTUALISATION OF A WORTHWHILE GOAL.
The bottom line is that dream must be broken down into goals(smaller tasks) to be completed for it to become a reality.

The world is full of dreamers but few doers.

The purpose of this article is to inform you that dream
alone does not guarantee success; action must be taken for dream to become a
reality.

Do you have a dream? If you do, what are your plans to
implement your dream? The truth is that we all have dreams, so having a dream is
not a big deal. It is an indisputable fact that dream is the foundation of all
achievements. I explain how this works in my article, how your thoughts create destiny. Dream is only one of the steps
in activating success. Other members of the success system must be applied in
order for dream to become a reality.

Yeah we all have dreams. It is high time we stopped
talking about our dreams. I want to be this, I want to be that. I want to do
this, I want to do that. The question is when are you going to begin?

When I Become a Big Boy

Shiv Khera, the author of " you can win" shared a popular story in his book about a little boy
who says when I become a big boy I will do this and this and I will be happy.
And when he becomes a big boy he says when I finish college and do this and
this I will be happy. And when he finishes college he says when I get my first
job I will do this and this and I will be happy. And when he gets his first job
he says when I get married I will do this and this and I will be happy. And
when he gets married he says when the kids get out of school and I do this and
this I will be happy. And when the kids get out of school he says when I retire
and do this and this I will be happy. And when he retires what does he see? He
sees life has gone by in front of his eyes.

This story sounds funny right? The truth is that our
attitude most of the times to our dreams is not different from that of this
little boy. We always believe or think that certain things must be in place
before we can live our dreams, and even if the conditions are met we look for
another excuse. We keep hipping up excuses until we end up doing nothing about our
dreams.

It is high time you stopped dreaming and start taking the right
step to becoming the person of your dream. What is the benefit of a great dream
that does not see the light of the day? No matter how novel your dream is, you
will never be celebrated for it until you make it a reality. Only doers and
achievers are celebrated. You can never build a great life and good reputation
on dreams and mere intentions. You must take action. Greatness is not for
dreamers and wishers, it is for doers.

Let us follow the example of martin Luther king Jr who says
in his I have a dream speech that “I have a dream that
my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be
judged by the colour of their skin, but by the content of their character.”

His dream was a lofty one indeed, He didn’t just dream and
abandon his dream, he applied action in the direction of his dream. Though the
dream cost him is life, it eventually became a reality. If not for his dream,
Barack Obama may not have the opportunity of becoming the president of the United State of America today.

You can change your life and change the world if
only you can make effort to make your dream a reality.

Stop dreaming today and start doing.

I want to believe you read my
previous post on the mystery of money, if you have not, try to read it.
Financial education is one of the main themes of this blog, and I will try as much
as possible to write on topics that will help to turn your financial life
around.

One of my natural gifting is the
ability to observe objects and events critically and draw essential lessons
from them.  You will agree with me that
some persons due to their background or setback in business or career have
unconsciously chosen to remain poor. The life of this category people remains
static and unchanging. In the deepest part of their heart, it is never their
desire to remain poor, but most often they are ignorant of the things that are
holding them back financially. Therefore the object of this article is to
expose those factors that have the likelihood of keeping one bound in poverty.
It is a popular belief that a problem identified is 50% solved, so by knowing
why people remain poor, you will be able to position yourself in the right way
so that you won’t be a victim or reposition yourself in case you are victim in
way that will set you free from the limitations.

After thorough investigation,
some of the reasons why people remain poor include the following:

1. Solely relying on only one stream of
income: To get out of poverty very fast, one source of income can never be
enough. If you observe the life of rich people, you will observe that none of
them rely on one source of income. One of the reasons you are still poor is
because you only depend on one source of come. The average poor man is a
self-employed professional, or an employee, who earns a meagre salary, and
keeps doing what he does for a living without improving or thinking of other
means of generating money. When he becomes broke, he blames God, devil or the
government for his financial predicament. Even after many years of whining, he
still remains at the same spot financially. If you must get out of poverty, you
must have a burning desire to acquire wealth, and be willing to learn all that
you need to know on how money works, and apply what you have learned by taking
the right action. L. Ron Hubbard said, “I never count on any one
source. I always plan to get the total sum of the money I need from each one of
three or four ways or sources. The mistake people often make is that once they
get a steady source of come and become comfortable, they naively think they
have arrived. However, as their financial problems increases, or experience a set
back in business, they regrettably find out how poor they are. Once you have a
steady source of income, try to create another and yet another until you have
enough streams that will put you where you desire to be financially.

2. Not looking for opportunity to make money:
When it comes to making money, you don’t wait for opportunity to find you, it
is your sole responsibility to seek or create opportunity to make money. The
truth is that with your skills and the environment you are right now, there are
numerous opportunities to make more money, the only reason you can’t see them
is because you are not making conscious effort to see them, or you are probably
blind in the mind. In Hellen Keller’s word, “the only thing worse than being
blind is having sight but no vision.” You are not poor because you lack
capital, but because you are blind in the mind. You are still poor because you
have ignorantly conditioned your mind that money can only come from your
current skill. If you are teacher, a technician, a bricklayer, a programmer, a
writer as the case maybe, you only focus on what you do as a means of solving
your financial problems, even if you are suffering financially. You never
thought that there are other things you can do to make money. It never occur to
you that you can learn anything you need to learn to achieve your financial
goals. To make more money, you must make a deliberate effort to think and seek
for other opportunities to make money in your environment. The opportunity out
there is unlimited.

3. Unwillingness to start small: I have
discovered that one reason people remain poor is because they are unwilling to
start small. They want to wait until they have enough to set up a conglomerate
because they can start. Most often people like this end up doing nothing, and
die in poverty. If you must be rich, you must be willing to start small. You
don’t climb the ladder of financial success from the top to the bottom. You
must climb from the bottom to the top, and climb it one rung at a time. Most
people who are wealthy in our society today, started with little or nothing,
they remain focused and steady. They despised the shame of humble beginning and
gradually carried their cross until they become the envy of those around them.
Bishop David Oyedepo said, “if you despise the days of little beginning, you
will never see great days.” He wrote in his book, exploiting the secrets of
success that “what you need to succeed is insight, not capital, and the insight
you need demands your humility.” No matter how little you have right now, start
that your business idea. Your business environment may not make sense now but
overtime it will. Someone once said, I may start radarada(anyhow) but I will
end daradara(well).

4. Self-limiting belief- One of the main
factors that keep people in poverty is self-limiting belief. Until you overcome
your self-limiting beliefs, you will never have any incredible result in life.
Brian Tracy, the author of no excuses
defines self-limiting belief “as an idea you have that you are limited in some
way in terms of time, talents, intelligence, ability and opportunity.” One
thing you have failed to realize is that the same obstacle that is holding you
back has been on the path of other successful people at one time in their life
journey. The difference between you and they is that instead of complaining,
giving excuses and whining, they become determined, and caused their obstacle
to be their stepping stone to success. When you allow unpleasant circumstances
to condition your mind to believe that poverty is your lot in life and that
there is no way you can beat the odds that are standing between you and a life
of financial abundance, then you are suffering from self-limiting belief. If
you must attain financial freedom, you must purge your thinking of limiting
beliefs. The antidote to limiting belief is truth. When you know the truth
about your real potential as a human being, the truth shall set you free.

5. Thinking it is too late to be rich: Sometimes
people remain poor because they thought it is too late for them to become
successful financially. But the truth is that people in this category are
wrong. There are so many wealthy people that started late in life and still
achieve their dream of being rich before they died. One sign you have given up
on ever becoming rich is the resolve that you will give your children the best
of education so that the height you didn’t attain financially, they can attain
it. It is a laudable ambition to train your kids, but giving up on your own
chances of becoming somebody financially is suicidal. It is never too late to
begin. The thought that you are already old is a limiting belief.

6. Discouragement: one of the reasons one
may remain poor in life is discouragement. I was privileged to learn lately
that we overlearn from experience. I once read the story of a cat that sat on a
hot stove and had to jump down from the stove because of its hot temperature.
There was another time that the stove was actually cold, the cat needed to sit
on it to be comfortable, but because it got
burnt by the stove the last time it sat on the stove, the cat didn’t make
any attempt to sit, because the cat naively assumed it would get burnt by the
stove again. The moral of this story is that we overlearn from experience. It
is possible you have made certain efforts in the past, but because your effort yielded
no positive result, you have allowed the past failure to make you depressed, frustrated
and hopeless. No wonder you are no more willing to try. The truth is that, the
fact that you failed in the past does not mean you will fail again. Succeeding
financially is not something that takes place overnight; it requires time,
dedication and persistence. You must be willing to fail over and over again
until you succeed.

Career / Money Or Job: Which One Do You Really Need? by Emasky4real(m): 4:07pm On Jan 14, 2016
This article is a continuation of the my previous post, the mystery of money. You may click to read it first for a better understanding of this post, and if you have read lets go there!

In today’s world virtually 80% of people depend on paid employment to make money. As a result of this the problem of unemployment has skyrocketed across the world. I was discussing with a young man lately who complained to me how flat broke he was. I tried to find out why he was so broke, and the answer he gave was that he had no job. I further asked him why he feels so, and he said if he had a job, he would earn salary, which will help him in solving his money related problems.

From my chat with him all I can conclude to be is problem is money, and not lack of job. I observed most young graduates and people within the working population are of the same mindset with the young man I chatted with. They believe they needed a paid employment to make money, but they are wrong. People with this mindset keep writing CV and moving from one organization to another in a bid to get a job to earn salary. If the job didn’t show up, they become broke and start blaming the government and everything around them as the reason for their lack of money. If you are of this mindset, you are not poor because of a bad economy, you are poor because you lack financial education. The truth is that, what you don’t know is more powerful than you.

Let me put it straight, you don’t necessarily need to work for an organization to earn money. Working for an organization is only one of the many ways to earn money. When you work for a company, they don’t pay you because you are working for them, they pay you because of the value you are giving them, and the day you become incapable of giving the value, they will show you the way out of their organization. Your organization pays you only for your time and what you can do for them (your skill).

Now, if a company does not hire you, there are other people out there who need one thing or the other which if you can provide, you will get paid. You can create your own job by studying the needs of people in your environment and come up with solutions to meet their needs and solve their problems. The company you are seeking to work for makes money by solving people's problem. You too can set up your own mini-company and make money. For example, any time my hair is bushy; I have no choice but to visit a barbing salon and have a nice hair-cut. When the barber is done with his job, I have no choice but to give him #200 for his service. Tens of people visit his shop on daily basis to get bushy hair off their head, and as result he makes his money.

If you are reading this article and currently have no job, I want you to know that your unemployment is not as a result of the witches and wizards in your village. It is either you are ignorant, lazy, proud or have no skill.

In making money all you need is skill or knowledge and a burning desire. Your skill is your earning ability. It is one thing you can always improve on. If you don’t have the skill you desire now, you can go and learn from experts. That is the good news.

According to Brian Tracy, “you can learn anything you needed to achieve any goal you can set for yourself.” Lack of skill is not an excuse. To become rich, all you need is to provide solution to a problem that many people have, by so doing, you create for them solutions or benefits which they will be willing to pay for. You solve people’s problem in two ways, one by giving them what they want and second, by removing what they don’t want, in either case they will be willing to pay you.

Always have in mind that we are in the 21st century, a period which information is transmitted from one place to another at the speed of light. An era, when new technology to solve human problems is evolving on daily basis. In this era, no matter what your skill is, someone is thinking and working very hard to provide the benefit of what you do at a cheaper rate. In this era, there is no such thing as job security. You can lose your job anytime because someone out there is working very hard to eliminate your current job, or to reduce your income.

Surviving the times demands just want one thing, ability to consistently update your skill in line with the change in your environment. A quote attributed to Charles Darwin says, “It is not the strongest of the species that survive, nor the most intelligent that do survive. It is the one most adaptable to change.” To adapt in a rapidly changing world, you need to consistently update your skill (your earning ability)

Finally, always have it mind that being poor or rich is a matter of choice and the choice is in your hand.

Business / How To Stop Being Broke by Emasky4real(m): 6:45am On Dec 31, 2015
The truth is that being broke is not an accident; it is a product of living in a certain way. It is okay to be broke once in a while, but to consistently find oneself in the state of being broke is abnormal. Something is wrong somewhere that has to be fixed or adjusted. No matter what may be the cause of your being broke, I am sure that one or more of the points I suggested below will be of help to you.

1. CHANGE YOUR THINKING: You started life from dependency to independence. When you were young, you depend solely on what your parents provide for you. Since your parents are the one responsible for your upkeep, you quickly shift blame to them anytime you have any financial problem. This kind of thinking has the likelihood of following you into adulthood. You believe certain persons are responsible for your being broke. For instance, you may blame the government for not creating job, or your parents for not giving you a quality education. If you fail in business, you tend to blame certain factors that are beyond your control. The first step in stopping being broke is by changing this kind of thinking. You have to stop engaging in the blame game, and accept total responsibility for your life. If you must be free financially, you must accept that you are responsible for your being broke. Stop expecting factors outside your control such as uncles, aunties, parents, government, good luck etc to bail you out of your financial predicament. When you put too much hope in these things, and your expectation is cut short, where you will find yourself is the state of depression and frustration, and you will ultimately become sad. When you accept total responsibility for your financial situation, you will find yourself in the position of power where you can take action that will help you turn the table in your favour, and if otherwise, then be ready to remain where you have always being. Without accepting personal responsibility for your financial situation, every other step in this list will definitely be difficult to carry out, but if you can achieve this first step, then you are on the path of liberating yourself from being broke.

2. HAVE MULTIPLE STREAMS OF INCOME: Some people find themselves in the state of being broke because they don’t have sustainable source of income. If what you do for a living does not guarantee you steady income to meet your needs, then you will likely be broke at one point or the other. Also when you depend solely on one source of income as a means of solving your financially problem, you will likely find yourself in the state of being broke when that one stream of income fails. To avoid this, first you have to make sure that what you do to make money is viable enough to give you steady income, and second try as much as possible to create other streams of income which will serve as a back up when one stream fails. If you are a business person, what other business opportunities in the area of your business can you harness to generate more income? No matter what you do for a living, you can create other streams of income. If you don’t have the needed skill, go for the training. The big question is what else can you do to make money beside your current source of income?

3. LIVE BELOW YOUR MEANS: it has been said that “it is not how much you make but how much you keep that determines your financial future.” This list will not be complete without adding this point. So many persons found themselves in the state of being broke not because they are not making enough money but they have refused to learn how to spend wisely. No matter how much you earn, if you are of the habit of not living below your means, you will always be broke. You have to learn to adjust your lifestyle and spending to the kind of income you earn in such a way that you will always have some savings to meet emergency. If you spend all your money as they come, then you will never be free from being broke.

4. PLAN YOUR EXPENDITURE IN ADVANCE: To stop being broke, you need to live your life like an economist. Back in my secondary school days, I learned in economics what is called scale of preference. A scale of preference is a list which shows your needs according to their importance. It is a fact that human wants are unlimited, so as result, there is the need to always make a list of your most important needs according to their importance. When you have this list, you will be able to spend your money on things that will bring more value to your life at certain time and not just spending money on unnecessary things. Planning your spending in advance will prevent you from the trap of impulse buying. You are expected to spend money on what you need and not what you want.

5. DON’T COUNT YOUR EGGS BEFORE THEY ARE HATCHED: Sometimes you will be expecting certain amount of money to be paid to you, such money maybe gift, salary or wages. No matter what, it is wise not to place 100% hope on any money you are expecting, because there is the likelihood of not getting the money as at when expected. There are cases where employers refuse to pay their employee for months without prior notice. I am also sure that at one point or other, someone has promised to give you money and fail to fulfill his promise as at when due. So to put 100% hope on such money is to set yourself up for being broke. Even when you are expecting money, you need to plan your finances in way that ensure that there is left over cash to cope in case your expectation fails.

I am of the opinion that if you can act on the five points discussed in this post, you will always have cash with you to meet your financial needs.

The year 2015 is gradually running to an end, and in few days time we shall shout happy New Year.

Have you sat down and evaluate your results for this year? How many of your goals were you able to achieve? Has anything change about you this year? To what extent have you moved towards your long term goals? Will you give yourself a pass mark or tag yourself a failure by the time you compare your result for this year against the goals you set for yourself?

No matter what your answers are regarding these questions, there is nothing you can do about that right now, they are now past events. It is important to note that as year comes and goes, we are drawing closer to our graves. We don’t have all the time in the world to become all that we want to be. It is expected of I and you to make the best use of our time so that at the end of our life, we would be proud that we lived our life well. The psalmist prayed “teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.

In few days time, we shall hit the year 2016. The truth is that 2016 will come and go just like every other year, but how do you want the year to be for you? I have being contemplating, and trying to define the exact things I want for next year as that has being my usual habit. So many things I set my mind on this year have come to pass, and I have some yet unrealized.

As we move into the New Year, I am persuaded that doing some of the things I suggested will definitely boost your productivity

· Write down your goals: As you prepare to get into the New Year, it is expedient to have a clear idea of the things you want to achieve in the year 2016. Get a notebook, and write at least five major things that if you achieve next year will move you closer to your long term goal. On the 20th of this month, December 2015, I was speaking in a program and I asked a guy among the audience to tell me the number of poles at one side of the hall, but he got the answer wrong despite the fact that he has always seen the poles. He got it wrong not because he was not intelligent, but because he has never made a deliberate effort to know the exact number of poles at that side of the hall. So also in life, YOU WILL NEVER GET WHAT YOU ARE NOT DELIBERATELY LOOKING FOR. You will likely not get what you don’t consciously desire to get in the year 2016. For a productive year 2016, you must be specific of the things you want.

· Make plans on how to turn your goals into reality: It has been said, that there is no such thing as something for nothing, which is the basic truth about life. Nothing is free, all things are sold. You have to determine the necessary steps you are going to take to turn those goals into reality. For example, one of my goals in the year 2007 was to pass Jamb and gain admission into the university. To achieve that I planned to attend tutorial for three months, study and prepared adequately. I acted on my plan and eventually passed my Jamb, and pass post-UME as well and was admitted into the university that same year despite the fact that the competition was tough. Don’t just have goals, you must make valid plans that will help you make them a reality.

· You must be willing to take action: it has been said that nothing happen without action. You cannot plough a piece of land by just turning in your mind, you must act. The truth is that so many persons are aware of the need to set goals, but the reason only few succeed is lack of willingness to take action. As you go into the New Year with your goals in mind, you must resolve to do everything possible to make your goals a reality. You must be willing to take advantage of every opportunity that will help you achieve your goals at the speed of light. Never procrastinate and you must be willing to take calculated risk.

· You must be focused: There is the likelihood of loosing focus because of so many things that may come up in the New Year, but you must ensure you fix your eyes on your goals and keep moving until you succeed.

· Be flexible: Flexibility is one of the things you need to be productive in the New Year. As you pursue your goals, you must take your time to reflect on your results. Identify the strategies that are working and the ones that are not. Flexibility demands that you discard methods that are not helping you to reach your goal and adopt new ones that will move you towards your goal faster.

· Choose the right friends and read the right books: It has been said that where you will be in the next 5 five years will be determined by two factors, the friend you keep and the books you read. Take a look at the friends you keep, and try your best to give those ones who are not bringing out the best in you some distance. You have to reduce the amount of time you spend with them. Choose to spend time with those who encourage you and bring the best out of you. Also you must form the habit of reading good books. Subscribe to blog and website that provides information on how you can maximize you full potential and reach you goal.

· Live right: You must ensure you live a good life. Do not take advantage of others. Do unto others as you want them to do to you. Lend helping hand to the less privileged, be humble and learn to be content with what you have. Always show gratitude for your blessings. Live a life that imparts other people positively. Eat good food at the right time and take care of your heath.

· Be prayerful: I don’t know if you believe that there is a force that controls the universe. Some religions call this force God, Jesus ,the source, higher self or infinite intelligence. I personally believe that there is God that rules in the affairs of men and control everything in the universe. If you believe and ask in faith what you want from life, he will definitely give you if it is in line with his will. This may be beyond the comprehension of rational thinking, but it does work. If you believe it, it will manifest in your experience.

May the year 2016 bring you your wishes. I wish a happy New Year in advance.
