Car Talk › Re: This, This Or This by emekan: 12:06pm On Apr 05, 2015 |
Hello. I'd actually go for the second. That Benz is a timeless classic. Still turns heads till date. If u put pristine versions of all three ( or should I say four lol) next to each other, u will surely pick the Mercedes. It reeks of class and has unbreakable build quality. I can also assure u that the drive and handling can't be matched by any of the others. Most importantly after a couple years of usage, u will notice that the Mercedes Benz has aged better than the others. Good luck in making your choice. Cheers. |
Car Talk › Re: What Are The Functions Of The 'd', 'd3', 'd2' And 'd1' Of Automatic Cars by emekan: 10:53am On Mar 19, 2015 |
Hello guys. Will make this short. Kinda busy at the moment. The D1, D2 and D3 inscriptions on your gear lever mean that you can engage any one of these three (4 forward gears inclusive of D). The function of this is to enable traction at low speeds. In sandy or very muddy areas, engaging any of the D1, D2 or D3 will restrict the gear from exceeding the respective gearing. Take for instance you select D1, no matter how hard you rev your car engine, your vehicle will never exceed gear 1. This ensures low end traction for sandy terrain or when low end power is needed for towing. If on the othe hand, you select D2, the gear will never exceed second gear no matter how hard you rev the engine. Same applies to D3. If however, D is selected, it allows the gear choose between the 5 available forward gears depending on how hard you rev and the road inclination and conditions. The ECU considers many factors simultaneously and decides the best gear in this case to choose in order to deliver best fuel economy under the prevailing circumstances. Hope this helps. Cheers. |

From the little I know, your model of Toyota corolla comes with stabilizer linkages. In fact they are longer than the conventional linkages you find on other vehicles. I am sure like GAZZUZZ said that they must have been removed. I wonder at what point in time that could have happened? |

Car Talk › Re: 2009 Nissan GTR Or 2014 Porsche Cayman? by emekan: 11:44am On Nov 08, 2014 |
Well in my opinion it depends on what you cherish more in a car. Is it sheer handling prowess and performance OR more of luxury OR the best of both worlds. In my honest opinion, if you are out for sheer driving thrills go for a Nissan GTR. If you however want the best of both worlds, go for the Porsche cayman. It will offer you more than adequate performance to cater for your everyday driving requirements topped up with a good dose of luxury. And besides coming from a marque perspective, it adorns a Porsche badge for crying out loud. The japs don't have shit on the Germans. Enjoy your choice bro. |
Car Talk › Re: GEAR OIL FOR EOD 2005 GEAR by emekan: 11:28am On Nov 08, 2014 |
iameleto: Hi peeps, can somebody in the house enlighten me more about power steering. Recently i discovered that my steering stiffens and hard to turn whenever i want to turn around. I filled the transmission oil and it works properly but discovered that within 2days it go back to the usual stiffens. I also observe that a hose is dripping the transmission oil. what can i do? Pls advise. . Hello. When u pop ur hood, which hose do u notice dripping oil? Is it the hose linking the power steering fluid reservoir to the pump or the hose that runs on top of the engine carrying fluid from the pump to the steering rack? If it is the hose running from the reservoir, it shouldn't cost more than 4,000 to change. If however it is the hose going from the power steering to the rack, then you will have to change it for 7k. Changed mine about 2 months ago. Hope this helps. Give me a feedback. Cheers. |

Car Talk › Re: Is It Ok To Drive With OD (over Drive) On Or Off? by emekan: 5:44pm On Feb 28, 2013 |
In my honest opi8nion, i think the reverse is the case. The overdrive should always be left on. The overdrive acts as an extra gear ratio, so it ultimately earns you savings on fuel. You could also look at it from this angle: Any light which comes on in your instrument cluster usually signals that there is a fault or the option chosen is not a default setting. In the toyotas circa 1999, the light on the instrument cluster says O/D OFF. This signifies that the default or should i say factory setting is to have the overdrive turned on at all times, the dash-light only coming on to alert the driver that the overdrive is turned off. Hope this helps. |
Car Talk › Re: Honda Acura Mdx 2007 Model Gear System by emekan: 7:57pm On Feb 09, 2013 |
Well this is my little contribution. I think for any vehicle that has a provision for selecting D1,D2, D3 and above means u have the flexibility of selecting the highest drive ratio the gear box can actually be operated under any driving condition. Take for instance you select a D3 on your vehicle, that means that no matter how much u apply(open) the throttle, the five speed auto transmission will never exceed its third gear. This enables more torque to be available at lower vehicle speeds to tackle slippery or hilly terrain. So for vehicles having that option you can select the highest gear u would want the vehicle not to exceed in the case D1 meaning u can't exceed the first gear no matter how hard you floor the gas. If alternatively you want the auto transmission to have the liberty of sellecting all possible drive ratios you choose D. |

Siena: Are you sure you've got the car right? Because I've never heard of an Octavia VW. He is indirectly correct you know. Car Talk › Re: EOD Gear Box by emekan: 3:08pm On Sep 21, 2012 |
Hello. Actually your gear lever has nothing to do with the condition of your gear box. The problem with your gear lever is most likely the brake switch. Its situated near the brake pedal in your car. When its faulty, it becomes extremely hard to disengage the gear lever from park. Anyway to test whether or not its the brake switch that is giving issues, depress the brake pedal when next you have extreme difficulty disengaging the gear lever and have someone stand behind your vehicle to observe wether or not your stop lamps(brake lights) light up. If they do not light up while the brake pedal is being depressed then your brake switch is the culprit. It shouldn't cost more than 2,000 to fix. Endeavour to give me a feedback. Hope this was helpful. Cheers. |
