Following the globally recognised September 1st as World Stop Smoking Day, I am very proud to present this special day as the day I Stop Smoking about seven years ago. It was not so easy for me to Stop, but with these proven methods, I was able to quit and quit finally. Read these tips and find out how deadly this small stick could harm you. Blood Circulation When you smoke, the toxins from cigarette smoke enter your blood. The toxins in your blood then: Make your blood thicker, and increase chances of clot formation Increase your blood pressure and heart rate, making your heart work harder than normal Narrow your arteries, reducing the amount of oxygen rich blood circulating to your organs. Together, these changes to your body when you smoke increase the chance of your arteries narrowing and clots forming, which can cause a heart attack or stroke. Heart Smoking damages your heart and your blood circulation, increasing the risk of conditions such as coronary heart disease, heart attack, stroke, peripheral vascular disease (damaged blood vessels) and cerebrovascular disease (damaged arteries that supply blood to your brain). Carbon monoxide from the smoke and nicotine both put a strain on the heart by making it work faster. They also increase your risk of blood clots. Other chemicals in cigarette smoke damage the lining of your coronary arteries, leading to furring of the arteries. In fact, smoking doubles your risk of having a heart attack, and if you smoke you have twice the risk of dying from coronary heart disease than lifetime non-smokers. The good news is that after only one year of not smoking, your risk is reduced by half. After stopping for 15 years, your risk is similar to that of someone who has never smoked. Stomach Smokers have an increased chance of getting stomach cancer or ulcers. Smoking can weaken the muscle that controls the lower end of your gullet (oesophagus) and allow acid from the stomach to travel in the wrong direction back up your gullet, a process known as reflux. Smoking is a significant risk factor for developing kidney cancer, and the more you smoke the greater the risk. For example, research has shown that if you regularly smoke 10 cigarettes a day, you are one and a half times more likely to develop kidney cancer compared with a non-smoker. This is increased to twice as likely if you smoke 20 or more cigarettes a day. Skin Smoking reduces the amount of oxygen that gets to your skin. This means that if you smoke, your skin ages more quickly and looks grey and dull. The toxins in your body also cause cellulite. Smoking prematurely ages your skin by between 10 and 20 years, and makes it three times more likely you'll get facial wrinkling, particularly around the eyes and mouth. Smoking even gives you a sallow, yellow-grey complexion and hollow cheeks, which can cause you to look gaunt. The good news is that once you stop smoking, you will prevent further deterioration to your skin caused by smoking. Bones Smoking can cause your bones to become weak and brittle. Women need to be especially careful as they are more likely to suffer from brittle bones (osteoporosis) than non-smokers. Brain If you smoke, you are more likely to have a stroke than someone who doesn't smoke. In fact, smoking increases your risk of having a stroke by at least 50%, which can cause brain damage and death. And, by smoking, you double your risk of dying from a stroke. One way that smoking can increase your risk of a stroke is by increasing your chances of developing a brain aneurysm. This is a bulge in a blood vessel caused by a weakness in the blood vessel wall. This can rupture or burst which will lead to an extremely serious condition known as a subarachnoid haemorrhage, which is a type of stroke, and can cause extensive brain damage and death. The good news is that within two years of stopping smoking, your risk of stroke is reduced to half that of a non-smoker and within five years it will be the same as a non-smoker. Lungs Your lungs can be very badly affected by smoking. Coughs, colds, wheezing and asthma are just the start. Smoking can cause fatal diseases such as pneumonia, emphysema and lung cancer. Smoking causes 84% of deaths from lung cancer and 83% of deaths from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). COPD, a progressive and debilitating disease, is the name for a collection of lung diseases including chronic bronchitis and emphysema. People with COPD have difficulties breathing, primarily due to the narrowing of their airways and destruction of lung tissue. Typical symptoms of COPD include: increasing breathlessness when active, a persistent cough with phlegm and frequent chest infections. Whilst the early signs of COPD can often be dismissed as a ‘smoker’s cough’, if people continue smoking and the condition worsens, it can greatly impact on their quality of life. You can slow down the progression of the disease and stopping smoking is the most effective way to do this. Mouth and throat Smoking causes unattractive problems such as bad breath and stained teeth, and can also cause gum disease and damage your sense of taste. The most serious damage smoking causes in your mouth and throat is an increased risk of cancer in your lips, tongue, throat, voice box and gullet (oesophagus). More than 93% of oropharangeal cancers (cancer in part of the throat) are caused by smoking. The good news is that when you stop using tobacco, even after many years of use, you can greatly reduce your risk of developing head and neck cancer. Once you've been smokefree for 20 years, your risk of head and neck cancer is reduced to that of a non-smoker. Reproduction and fertility Smoking can cause male impotence, as it damages the blood vessels that supply blood to the penis. It can also damage sperm, reduce sperm count and cause testicular cancer. Up to 120,000 men from the UK in their 20s and 30s are impotent as a direct result of smoking, and men who smoke have a lower sperm count than those who are non-smokers. For women, smoking can reduce fertility. One study found that smokers were over three times more likely than non-smokers to have taken more than one year to conceive. The study estimated that the fertility of smoking women was 72% that of non-smokers. Smoking also increases your risk of cervical cancer. People who smoke are less able to get rid of the HPV infection from the body, which can develop into cancer. Smoking while you are pregnant can lead to miscarriage, premature birth, stillbirth and illness, and it increases the risk of cot death by at least 25%. I have 100% proven method to stop smoking in a question of 8 hours. I smoked for years, could not sleep without cigarette in my fingers, if this method could make me quit, you too can. THEO RAYS reports that 19 years after the demise of the former traditional ruler of Ogidi community in Anambra State, the town is now ready to elect a new Igwe to fill the vacant stool. The AUTHORITY can report authoritatively that the people of the ancient community of Ogidi in Idemili North local government area of Anambra are set to elect new traditional ruler in an election scheduled to hold on 27th August, 2016, at the Ogidi Town Hall, 19 years after the death of their last ruler. The President-General of the town, Chief Chuka Onubogu, who confirmed the election to our correspondent, stated that the atmosphere which was hitherto clouded with litigations is now clear for the election, adding that preparation is on top gear to ensure a hitch free election on 27th August. Onubogu admitted that although there is still a case at Appeal Court over the Igweship stool, the election will hold as scheduled as, according to him, “there is no judgement or injunction from any court of competent jurisdiction that restrains the town union from conducting the election on the 27th of August 2016”. As at the time of filling this report, The AUTHORITY gathered that two renowned Pharmacists are already in the race for the highly respectable Igwe Ogidi throne. They are Pharmacist Albert Rex Ezegbo and Pharmacist Alex Onyido. The duo in a separate encounter with The AUTHORITY confirmed their interest in the race indicating their preparedness to revive the Igweship throne and restore its dignity as it were known for right from time if elected promising to use their wealth of experiences in life and business, exposure and connections to move Ogidi to the next level and get the community rid off challenges facing it. Onyido, who is the founder and Managing Director of Alben Medical Industries, in an encounter with The AUTHORITY South East Crew, listed his 5-point Agenda for the community which includes security, infrastructure, welfare, think home and restoration of lost glory of the culture and tradition of the town noting that he is not contesting the Igweship election but the good people of Ogidi asked him to come up for the revered job. He said “No, I am not contesting for the Igweship position. It was the good people of the community from all parts that came to me and asked me to come out for it and I had to oblige them because of my passion to serve the people and contribute for the development and progress of my town. I do not know if there is other person that has got the blessing of the people apart from my humble self, so I am not contesting rather it is a call to serve from the people and I have accepted it”. He said that if coroneted and enthroned, he would encourage the current security measures put in place in Anambra State by Governor Willie Obiano at Ogidi by enacting a stringent law against kidnapping, armed robbery and cultism. On infrastructure, he said that he would build a State of the Art equipped neutral palace which will serve as the citadel of the traditional institution in the town where himself and successive rulers of the town will hold the annual Ofala festival, hold meetings and do other things adding that he will work with the town union, the churches the women and other stakeholders to restore the lost glory of the cultural and traditional heritage of the town. On his part, Pharmacist Ezegbo, the owner of the popular Rex Pharmacy and Rex Chemist as well as Rex Table water, who spoke in a more political tone, told The AUTHORITY that he is contesting for the Igweship with the aim to correct things that are not proper in Ogidi. “Ogidi is bent and not straight because of certain things that are not correct. I want to correct those things and make the town to be straight, and that is the reason why I have come out to seek the mandate of the good people of Ogidi to become their traditional ruler”, he said. The renowned pharmacist said that his emergence as the ruler of Ogidi would represent a desired paradigm shift moving the people from the old order to a new order at which every quarter of the community would have equal right and equal sense of belonging to the system of things and heritage of the ancient town. He said that his enthronement as Igwe Ogidi would give the community a well deserved public image because, he has the personality, the education, the charisma, the experience, the exposure, the reputation and enough connection required for the throne. He added, “Based on the quality of my person, my capacity to lead Ogidi to the next level is not in doubt. I can have my way to speak to the people in government at all levels, to give attention to the needs of Ogidi town. “I was the first person to construct road with asphalt in Ogidi. I built an industry which provided jobs for the people and also constructed a water scheme that provides water for the people. So, I have been there for the people and I see the Igweship throne as wider platform to continue what I have been doing for decades. “Three months ago, I was in the United States and I addressed our people telling them that home is first and they bought into my idea. If I became the Igwe, I would form the branch of Ogidi union in the United States and the rest of the foreign countries with a view to bridging the gap between those living overseas and those at home”, he maintained. http://www.authorityngr.com/2016/08/Ogidi-community-set-to-elect-new-traditional-ruler/ |
midolian:A great declaration of this magnitude should be done in Biafra land and not in Abuja. I noticed a similar usage and words construction, uniformism in the RNDA, MEND and this same TRIPOB(if truly it exists). Anachronomism, methaphor. CHIMA PHILIP EFFIONG OSUJI is not a Biafran name. Biafrans do not merge names like that, is either you get PHILIP EFFIONG, CHIMA OSUJI, PHILIP OSUJI and the list continues. I have not gone out to protest with them, but I know these guys have something unique Nigeria should not ignore. These guys are resolute, fearless, ready to be murdered in their millions just to have their course. I will advice our leaders to stop giving them cheap publicity, release Nnamdi Kanu and overlook all these distractions and forge ahead. If you come to the eastern part of Nigera, you will understand why these guys are agitating. No good road, no employment, segregation , nepotism and divide and rule has so accumulated in our leaders that they forget one can only be peaceful and patriotic if gainfully employed. This statement is a lame propaganda and will energize their quenched zeal (IPOB) instead of deriviing the purported result. I strongly believe in peace and harmony. Hate speeches should be checked by most Biafrans, Nigeria is a country and not a zoological republic of embeciles. If Biafrans are tenants in Nigeria, will you be happy to be asked to pay house rents therein? Let us embrace the spirit of nationalism, patriotism and above all be considerate, humanly in the qest for freedom. We should not offend other tribes just that we are marginerlized, humiliated and unnoticed. This struggle should be done with the fear of God. |
STARGREEN:thanks bro, the building's plan though. |
