If ASUU is hoping on protests or pressures from Nigerians to end this strike, then the union is on a looooong thing.

Nigerians don't really care about any quality education. What most care about is certificate to brag about.

Nigerians hate intellectualism! This is because they don't understand the importance of quality education to the society. That is why they treat those who excel academically with little regards. That is why they don't regard higher educational qualifications.

A country that understands the importance of sound education will not allow her universities to be closed for even one week, let alone seven months.

Anybody who is expecting a protest like the #EndSARS campaign as means to end this strike need to think again. Nigerians won't protest over ASUU strike. Even NLC that would have helped to pressure the FG have gone cold.
there are no truer words that these. Nigerians can't stage a fierce protest for education. We like entertainment too much.

ASUU Strike Hits 7 Months: Is There A Way Out Of This Mess

It is no news that the industrial action by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has been on strike since February 14. It is also not a news story again that the ASUU has gone on strike sixteen times since the present political dispensation began in 1999. To be sincere, the ASUU is the ‘abiku’ of our education sector, coming and going these several seasons as written by J P Clark in his poem titled Abiku.

The reality of our university education is dwarfness, nothing to be reckoned with, a time waster, and an absolute gibberish. It has now degenerated to the state of comatose. No one is being considerate; no one is trying to be merciful. Everyone takes their garment of pride at the expense of the futures of the Nigerian public university students.

It is disheartening that whenever education becomes the talking point, our leaders become passive and disinterested. They show, if at all, a modicum of proactiveness in investing much in education, the most powerful weapon that can be used to change the world, as stated by Nelson Mandela. The future of the country — the students — does not concern them. The students are now at home for nothing less than 210 days, while none of the two elephants, the federal government and the ASUU, is ready to sheath their sword.

Rather than settle the lingering issues which resulted in the incessantly protracted industrial actions, the federal government and the ASUU aggravated it to the greatest shock of the populace, especially the Nigerian students. The federal government has sued ASUU to an industrial court. The latter responded by presenting 42 lawyers, of whom 22 are Senior Advocates of Nigeria. It has now become the clash of the Titans.

The welfarism and interests of the Nigerian students are not in their minds. All they want is their own welfarism and interests, though they may all show little empathy as if they cared. They fight every now and then, yet the students are oblivious of their supposed advantages in the duo’s frequent mettle.

In the last 30 months, the ASUU has been on strike for nothing less than 15 months and students are forced to stay away from academic activities. As it is now, a lot has happened. Many students have dabbled into some things. Some destinies have become shattered. Few have died while some are not doing well for themselves. Since some are idle, they have become the devil’s workshop.

While the Nigerian students do not know what the future holds for them, their contemporaries are making waves, birthing new ideas and channeling their strengths into productive developments. All boils down to just having leaders who are insensitive about the plight of their followers and who are not ready to make the country great.

Is there a way out of this mess?

There is nothing that Nigerian students can do. They have used their only medium — protest — to show their grievances. However, all has proven abortive. The only way out of the lingering strike is to await the always delayed judgement of the case between the Federal Government and the ASUU. Nonetheless, with how everything pans out, there is little or no hope that the strike will not cross over to next year.

EducationRe: Can Scammers Scam Honest People? by Emeritus1200(op): 9:34pm On Sep 13, 2022
MrBrownJay1:
people fall for scam for many different reason....GREED, STUPIDITY; IGNORANCE etc therefore you can be a honest person and fall for a scam, yes.
In the piece, I made mention of ignorance and greed. Others fall under the two.
EducationCan Scammers Scam Honest People? by Emeritus1200(op): 2:38pm On Sep 13, 2022
As the world keeps evolving, scammers always devise new methods to swindle people of their hard-earned money. When a method becomes unworkable again, they introduce new ones. Then the vicious act continues. Scammers, in recent years, use phishing, texting, calling, ponzi schemes, robocalls, and others to dupe people.

Scammers know that some people are ignorant. They are fully aware that some people are not conscious of the present day realities. They cash in on those people’s ignorance and make fortunes without much labour. It is a stupid act to release your biodata — name, date of birth, account number, Bank Verification Number, and other personal details — to another person and unreliable organizations.

More so, scammers know that some people are desperate; this set of people want to make money overnight. They are on the lookout for available opportunities to make quick money. The get-rich-quick syndrome has made some become wretched. They want to get money without doing any work.

Over the years, people just put money in ponzi schemes. In the end, it always ends in premium tears for a lot of people that invest in them. How logical is it to expect the money invested to duplicate or more within a one-month span? It is not possible. Business doesn’t work out like that.

Being greedy makes one vulnerable. It makes someone’s desire grow beyond the normal expectations. There is nowhere in the world that money is made overnight; it always takes processes. Anyone who wants to have quick money is like a thief who may encounter the scamming of superiors.

Honest people are content with what they have. They take risks, but are not blindfolded by the get-rich-quick mentality. They do not want to reap where they do not sow. And they are not ready to get their fortunes in someone’s downfall, nor make it overnight.

People who put their money in a ponzi scheme or its similarity know that it will crash. But they all want to ply their luck before it does. However, some of them often meet their dead ends.

There is nothing free even in Freetown. Nothing good comes easily. No one that has a unique opportunity will start sharing it on the internet or texting random people about it. If anyone gets a good opportunity, they often reserve it for their relatives. Unknown people do not put you in the scheme of things when the opportunity is real. Be wise. Don’t invest in any get-rich quick investment; it always ends in tears.

Any attempt to reap where you do not sow may lead to being scammed. Plying your luck in an untrusted investment is very risky. And trying to duplicate your investments within a few days, weeks or months is tantamount to stealing.

When the mouthwatering offers of scammers come your way, your honesty will help your sense of reasoning to know that it is all a scam.

EducationLAUTECH Alumni Grant #500 000 To Graduate Who Returned His Certificate by Emeritus1200(op): 9:17am On Sep 13, 2022
LAUTECH Alumni Grant #500 000 To Graduate Who Returned His Certificate

In the wake of the drama and tirade by a graduate of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Mr Osunleke Alaba, the school alumni has granted him a sum of #500 000 to start up his innate talent.

The support given to Mr Alaba came after his outburst in the school last week. He expressed his unequivocal frustration to secure employment after graduation. He returned his certificate in annoyance and expressly demanded the refund of his fees when he was an undergraduate.

The school management did not react to the shocking news which made many to assume that Mr Alaba is on his own. However, the alumni of the LAUTECH responded quickly to his plight within a week. They gave him a cheque of #500 000 as a start-up fund to develop his innate artistic talent.

In the video that spread like fire on the internet last week, Mr Alaba, a graduate of Agricultural Extension and Rural Development, had stated the reasons why he returned the certificate and requested a refund of all the fees he paid during his studentship in the school.

“I returned the certificate because it had no impact on my existence. I asked for a refund of the fees paid in school so I could use it to build my talent and live a meaningful life.

“I am an entertainer and even won the MTN talent hunt award during my service year in 2016.”

Upon receiving the support fund from the global alumni of LAUTECH, Mr Alaba expressed his profound gratitude on his Facebook post.

“I hereby seize this medium to express my deep appreciation to the Global Body of LAUTECH Alumni as outstandingly led by the President, Hon. Onilede Solomon popularly known as LIMO, the Board of Trustees, and the Oyo State Chapter of the Association for their presentation of the #500,000 cheque to me today.

“May Almighty God continue to be with you and all members of the Association for their show of love and support. I thank you, once again,” he wrote.

LiteratureNonfiction by Emeritus1200(op): 9:39pm On Sep 12, 2022
Nonfiction

Nonfiction is a narrative based on real events, facts, real people and their actions. It doesn’t have any elements of imagination of the author. It is a genre of literature that has occurred somewhere or to someone before. There are forms of nonfiction.

Autobiography
‘Auto’ means ‘self’. Autobiography is simply a factual story about someone written by himself or herself. It doesn’t cover the entire lifetime of the person, who lives the life. It uses first person (I and We) to narrate since the story is about himself or herself. Examples: Ake by Wole Soyinka, Long Walk to Freedom by Nelson Mandela.

Biography
It is a real narrative of a person written by another writer. It centers on the experience of the person, how s/he lives his life. In short, it tells the history or story of someone based on the evidence ___ physical encounters, audios, videos, pictures, writings ____ that the writer has access to. Biography can cover the lifetime of a person if the writer outlives the subject. The narrative technique of a biography is third person (she/he) objective. Example: Robinson Crusoe by Daniel Defoe.

Memoir
Memoir has a close meaning with autobiography because they both tell about the writing of a person who lives the life. However, memoir is the recollection of an important event which the writer takes part in. It is from the French words ‘memoire’ and Latin ‘memoria’ meaning memory and remembrance. It centers itself on the personal experience of an important event within a timeframe in which the narrator is also an actor. Example: There Was A Country by Chinua Achebe.

Journal
Journal is a publication on a research work about a particular field of study in a higher institution of learning. A journal is occasional and it is within a department in an institution.

EducationLearn More About: Verbs, Patterns Of Verbs And Term Verbs. by Emeritus1200(op): 9:12pm On Sep 12, 2022
Verbs: verbs are words that show actions and states of being.

The reason for the definition is that there are some verbs that do not perform actions. So it will be insensitive to say that all verbs perform actions and to define verbs as action words. You will learn more about this later in this lesson.

There are types and forms of verbs. I will teach everything accordingly.

Types of Verbs

Lexical verbs: these are verbs that can stand alone and have complete meanings. Examples: go, sing, dance, come, write, give etc. Lexical verbs are also known as main verbs, real verbs or principal verbs.

I go to school.

She dances very well every time.

Lexical verbs, in present tense, can be divided into two; they are singular and plural. Singular verbs always end with the letter “S” as in; sings, walks, jumps, goes, knows, strikes etc.

Plural verbs do not end with the letter “S” as in; sing, walk, jump, go, know, strike etc.

Note: a singular verb must be used after singular subject ( the doer of an action)

The man always comes here.

Dara sings pleasantly.

The man (one person) the verb singular (comes)

Note: after a plural subject, a plural verb must be used

The men always come here.

Helping verbs: There are many types of helping verbs but I will explain three, which are; primary helping verb, modal verb, anomalous verb.

1. Primary helping verb: AM, IS, ARE, WAS, WERE etc.

Note: a continuous form of verb (verb + ing) can come after the primary helping verb.

I am SINGING in the church.

Note: a past participle form of verb can come after the primary helping verb if the sentence is in passive voice.

I am KNOWN by people as a writer.

The assignment is WRITTEN.

2. Modal verb: can, could, may, might, shall, should, will, would, ought to, had to,need, must, dare.

Note: modal verbs attract plural lexical verbs either the subject is singular or plural.

I can FLY (not FLIES) like a butterfly.

I must SEE you today.

3. Anomalous verbs: has,have, had.

These attract past participle forms of verbs.

Note: you have to read present tense, past tense and past participle very well.

Go – went – gone, sing – sang – sung, burst – burst – burst, get – got – got, hang (criminal) – hanged – hanged etc.

I have GONE there.

He has got to the place.

Special notice: all singular verbs end with letter “s” as in; is, has, comes etc.

Even “WAS” that is in past tense form ends with letter “s” thereby making it singular.

HAD is the past tense of HAS and HAVE.

FORMS OF VERBS.

1. Stative verbs: they express states of being rather than actions. I explained earlier that there are some verbs that do not perform actions. So, there are ways they – stative verbs- can be used. They relate with thoughts, emotions, feelings, senses etc.

Examples of stative verbs: see, understand, hear, smell, love, hate, seem, listen, recognize, agree, believe, perceive, include, imaging, suppose, know, like, dislike, want, remember, appreciate, mind, depend, consist, comprise, detest etc.

English users are to be careful with stative verbs. Why? If you use a stative verb in (ing) before a primary helping verb, it can be bad English or it may be wrongly used

Buhari is seeing Kudi ( wrongly used) the statement means that Buhari and Kudi are dating each other.

I am loving you ( bad English)

These are correct sentences below;

Buhari sees Kudi

I love you.

They understand you.

Do you listen to me ( not ARE YOU LISTENING TO ME)

2. Dynamic verbs: these are action words. They attract (ing). These verbs describe the action that can start and finish. They demonstrate the action words that can be seen to be demonstrated. When someone RUNS, you can see the action – that is dynamic. But when someone LOVES another person, can the verb be seen to be demonstrated? No! Someone can claim to love someone and still kill that person

3. Infinitive verbs: these are verbs that start with TO and are followed by verbs in base. Ifinitive will surely have TO + a verb in base form.

To go, to sit, to jump, to come etc.

PATTERNS OF VERBS.

1. Verbs followed by ING.

There are the lexical verbs that attract other lexical verbs that end with ING. Examples: stop, start, love, like, hate, enjoy, finish, mind, help, avoid, deny, admit etc.

I can’t stop LOVING you.

He starts BEHAVING like an animal.

Do you mind EATING any food?

I enjoy DRINKING alcohol a lot.

2. Verbs followed by infinitives: grow, afford, love, start, like, hate, want, prefer, eat, dance, look, stand, come, go, remember, agree, plan, decide etc.

So, after any of the verbs, a verb that has TO + the base form of the verb should follow.

I want TO GO.

He swims TO IMPRESS people.

3. Verbs followed by ING and INFINITIVE.

examples: love, hate, help, start, prefer, etc. I believe you should have understood this.

EducationRe: UI Student Wins 1 Million Naira In The NCDMB Essay Competition by Emeritus1200(op): 10:59pm On Sep 08, 2022
Congratulations, Elesho. You did well.
EducationUI Student Wins 1 Million Naira In The NCDMB Essay Competition by Emeritus1200(op): 9:17pm On Sep 08, 2022
Ayotomiwa Elesho, a 200 level Political Science student of the University Of Ibadan (UI) won a sum of 1 million naira in the sixth edition of the annual essay competition organized by the Nigerian Content Development Monitoring Board (NCDMB).

Ayotomiwa was shortlisted among 10 students across the Nigerian universities who took part in the 1500-word essay writing with the topic, “Strategizing For Transformation To Clean Energy In The Changing Energy Landscape: The NCDMB Intervention.” The top ten students all received brand new laptops, while the winner took a sum of 1 million naira home, with the runner up a sum of #700, 000 and the 2nd runner up with a sum of #500, 000.

There was a hiccup about who would emerge victorious among the shortlisted student essay writers who are in 100 level and 200 level of the Nigerian universities. The NCDMB scheduled an interview with each shortlisted winner to affirm the authenticity of their respective writings. However, it became clear at the prize-giving ceremony that Ayotomiwa Elesho is the best essay writer among all student entrants of the competition.

Since the inception of the essay writing competition, thousands of 100 level and 200 level students across universities in Nigeria always participate in it. It has been a money-making competition that helps the students to discuss meticulously the role of the NCDMB in the local participation of the country’s fossil fuels.

It is noted that Ayotomiwa Elesho’s essay will be published among all writings in the annual magazine of the NCDMB named “Local Content Digest.”

The NCDMB is a government established set to monitor content developments and enhance in-country participation of Nigerian hydrocarbons.

EducationRules Of Concord by Emeritus1200(op): 8:24pm On Sep 08, 2022
CONCORD
Concord is an agreement between the subject and the verb. The fact is that English is a language that has many rules and exceptions. Hence, there is the need for every English user to know how to make right sentences to avoid grammatical blunders.
Every student must know that the subject (the doer of an action) and the verb (the action that is demonstrated) must have an agreement between each other.
There are many rules in concord; and I urge the students to read this piece intensively, meticulously and aptly.
Let's talk briefly about subject.
Subject is the doer of an action. It can either be a noun, a noun phrase, a noun clause or a pronoun.
Noun can be singular or plural. And don't forget that a noun is any name of a person, thing, place, an animal and idea.
So when you mention any name, you must know that it is a noun. A singular noun refers to one person, animal, place, thing, and idea; while a plural noun refers to two or more people, animals, places etc.
Verbs are words that also show actions or states of being. By now, you should have known that verbs are the most important parts of speech in English. Without verbs, there is nothing like a sentence. Verbs always come after the subject in the sentence. However, it can change if the structural arrangement of word classes changes due to the dexterity of the writer or speaker.
Verbs can also be singular and plural. Singular verbs always end with letter "s" as in; IS, HAS, WAS, GOES, COMES, SINGS, CARRIES, COOKS etc. While plural verbs do not end with letter "s" as in; ARE, HAVE, WERE, GO, COME, SING,CARRY, COOK etc.
Rules
1a. After a singular subject, a singular verb must follow it.
My mother (one person) cooks (singular verb) rice daily.
He (one person) is (a singular verb) very angry often.
The dog (one animal) wags (singular verb) its tail.
1b. Use a plural verb after any plural subject.
Our mothers (two or more people) cook (plural verb) rice daily.
They (two or more people) are (plural verb) very angry often.
The dogs (two or more dogs) wag (plural verb) their tails.
2. AGREEMENT WITH "EACH, EVERY".
When any of the two words above is used, make sure you use a singular noun and a singular verb.
Each girl ( singular noun) is (singular verb) here.
Every man (singular noun) knows ( singular verb) me
3. AGREEMENT WITH "EACH OF, ONE OF, NONE Of"
When any of the words above is given, it would attract a plural noun and a singular verb.
Each of the students (plural nouns) knows (singular verb) us.
One of the doctors (plural noun) has (singular verb) a house in London.
None of them (more than two persons) is (singular verb) sensitive.
4. INDEFINITE PRONOUNS
Use a singular verb after any indefinite pronoun. Examples:
Everyone, everything, everybody, everywhere
No one, nothing, nobody, nowhere
Anyone, anything, anybody, anywhere
Someone, something, somebody, somewhere
Everyone is (singular verb) in the hall
Everybody loves (singular verb) success.
5. AGREEMENT WITH "EITHER/OR" and "NEITHER/NOR"
after using "EITHER/OR" or "NEITHER/NOR", the noun or pronoun (subject) that comes after "OR/NOR" will attract the verb. Simply put, if the subject that comes after "OR as well as NOR" is singular, you must use a singular verb. And if the subject is plural, use a plural verb.
Examples: Either the students or the proprietor (singular subject) goes (singular verb) home early.
Neither the proprietor nor the students (plural subject) go ( plural verb) home early.
6. AGREEMENT OF PRAYER, RECOMMENDATION, SUGGESTION, DEMAND.
When prayer, suggestion, recommendation, or demand is expressed in a sentence, a plural verb must follow without giving any regard to the subject used. Either singular or plural subject, you must use a plural verb.
God (singular subject) bless ( plural verb) you.
He demands that HE (one person/ singular subject) go (plural verb).
7. AGREEMENT OF "EVERY with FIGURE"
If a number --- such as; two, three, four, ten, etc. --- follows EVERY immediately, the noun must be plural and the verb must also be plural.
Every five professors (plural subject) teach ( plural verb) very well.
8. AGREEMENT WITH "ALL"
"All" has two meanings when it is used as a subject. First off, it means all the people. Second, it means everything.
When "all" means all the people, it will attract a plural verb.
All ---- eating in the room
(a) is (b) are.
The answer is ARE, because all in the expression above refers to ALL THE PEOPLE.
Conversely, when ALL refers to everything, it will attract a singular verb.
All is well.
All that glitters is not gold.
9. AGREEMENT OF "MANY A"
after using MANY A, singular noun and a singular verb must follow.
Many a lady (singular subject) loves (singular verb) dancing.
10. AGREEMENT OF BODMAS.
BODMAS means Bracket, Of, Division, Multiplication, Addition, Subtraction.
Sentences that involve these Mathematical parlance/principles can attract both singular and plural verbs.
Two multiplied by ten is/are twenty.
11. AGREEMENT WITH "A NUMBER OF and THE NUMBER OF"
When A NUMBER OF is used, it always attracts a plural noun and a plural verb. Example
A number of stolen vehicles (plural noun) have (plural verb) been recovered.
However, when THE NUMBER OF is used, it will attract a singular verb.
Eg. The number of stolen vehicles (plural noun) has (singular verb) been recovered.
12. AGREEMENT WITH SIAMESE SUBJECT.
Siamese means TWO IN ONE, that is, a subject is seen like two. It is not two; it is one and it will attract a singular verb.
Example: The proprietor and English teacher
Looking at this, a person can think that there are two subjects there, that is, "the proprietor" and "English teacher". However, the subject in the expression is one. Why? Because THE PROPRIETOR is also the ENGLISH TEACHER.
If there would be two subjects at the expression above, it will be " THE PROPRIETOR and THE ENGLISH TEACHER"
Article " the" that comes before "the English teacher" makes it a subject that is different from the proprietor which is also a subject, making the subjects two. Therefore, without the article THE in " THE PROPRIETOR AND ENGLISH TEACHER" that means we have one subject and it will attract a singular verb.
The proprietor and English teacher knows me
NOTE: if article "the" comes before " English teacher", that means we have two subjects and it will attract a plural verb.
The proprietor and the English teacher know me.
13. AGREEMENT WITH BLOCK PLURAL GROUPS.
Block plural groups are adjectives that function as nouns with the use of article "the" which precede them.
Examples: the young, the aged, the helpless, the hapless, the handicapped, the brilliant, the disabled, the poor, the rich, the wise, the meek, the wealthy etc.
These can be rewritten as; the young people. The aged people, the helpless people, the hapless people etc.
So, when you have such group of nouns, it is plural and it will attract a plural verb.
"The poor" or any other can never regard to one person, but to two or more persons/people. So, block plural groups are plural; they always attract plural verbs.
The poor are ridiculed in society.
The rich also cry.
The aged possess grey hair.
Note: you must not add letter "s" to any of these nouns.
The poors ( bad English)
The poor (good English)

You can read my post very well. Barb, as a verb, means to furnish with a barb. However, it has been accepted in Nigeria English usage and put in some dictionaries that the word, barb, can mean to cut the hair in the Nigerian setting alone.

You can confirm that by checking it on the internet.

EducationASUU Strike: Students Organize Sex Party To Kill Boredom by Emeritus1200(op): 10:07am On Sep 06, 2022
Late last week, a video of a sex party in Akwa went viral. The video had the scenes of students schooling in the state having a sex romp between several male and female partners. Others enjoyed the sexcapades while watching with much enthusiasm. The incident happened in a hotel (name withheld) very near to the Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK).

According to report, the sex party has become a weekly activity, happening on Saturdays. The students gather at the hotel to make it out and revel amid the cataclysmic situation of tertiary education in the country.

The eyes witness report explained that most of the students in the sex party are students of UNIZIK. The witness claimed that she knew at least 90 percent of the people in the sex party as UNIZIK students.

To invite many people into the party, a banner was placed outside urging ladies to put on their night-wear while coming to the party. As it stands, it was a sex galore in which many students were active participants.

Notwithstanding, the incident occurred in the wake of the ASUU strike. The ASUU has been on strike since February 14. And there is little or no ray of hope that the strike will be called off soon.

EducationI Want To Barb My Hair — Is It Correct? by Emeritus1200(op): 9:11am On Sep 06, 2022
I want to barb my hair — Is it correct?

People use “I want to barb my hair” to mean I want to cut my hair. However, the subject of discussion is the correctness of the expression, and the use of barb.

What is the meaning of barb?

Barb, as a verb, means to furnish with a barb. So, it has no relation to the cutting of hair. Nonetheless, it has been used in Nigeria to mean cutting of hair. And it has become correct in Nigerian English, since few reputable dictionaries have listed the Nigerian meaning of it among others. One must know that the meaning is just endemic to Nigerians alone, not universal. Therefore, barb, which means to cut one’s hair, is not universally correct English.

How can we make the statement to be universally correct?

The appropriate verb for the cutting of one’s hair is barber. The word, barber, can be a noun or a verb. As a noun, it means someone who cuts men’s hair and shaves or trims bread as an occupation. As a verb, it means the cutting or trimming of men’s hair.

The correct expressions are:

EducationASUU Strike: NLC Political Indifference, Hypocrisy by Emeritus1200(op): 8:10am On Sep 05, 2022
Bad governance has been distinguishably characterised with the Nigerian government from time immemorial. It’s no more news. Nevertheless, a union such as the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) is a major player in checkmating and frowning at the arbitrariness of government by leading the whole country in a national protest, before things get completely out of hand. Traditionally, therefore, the NLC, though a pressure group, has become the last hope for Nigerians, by shutting down the country with a view to propelling the government to immediately listen to the people, in respect to the agitation at hand.

According to the explanation derived from the definition of government as an academic field of study, the primary function and subject goal of any pressure group is to influence the decisions and actions of the government in favour of its members. However, the NLC has deviated from this responsibility, but conversely, influences the decisions of the government to fester the lives of its members. Besides the economic inflation which tremendously overrides the purchasing power of the meagre salary the government pays the members, their children, also, are held down from getting stable education. This time around, what meaningful thing or step has the NLC leadership done or taken to assuage the bitterness of its members?

In 2014, the NLC staged a nationwide protest against the former president Goodluck Jonathan led administration over a sudden hike in the price of petrol. The protest was heavily participated by Nigerians. Moreover, the allegation that the protest was motivated and sponsored by the then opposition party was very close to the truth. Having mounted the heavy-laden pressure on the government, the decision to dance to the people’s tune became inevitable for the president. Thus, the NLC, obviously, plays a pivotal role as a watchdog to the government.

Dishearteningly, the ASUU strike has lingered for close to two years only in this APC seven years of administration in Nigeria. It’s a surprise that the radical NLC is spellbound and muted for seven bad years of complete moribundity of all sectors of governance, most especially, the education sector. On a rare occasion, the NLC staged a warning protest over the ASUU strike which was of no effect. It was just a public holiday for its members to walk around the street and later go back home to study their frivolous bones.

Apparently, the NLC leadership, just like Sunday Asephon, (the frenemy in the colouration of NANS president), is occupied by people who have been covertly motivated and manipulated by the guile Nigerian government. This government, in all ramifications, particularly education, is the worst administration since the inception of the federal republic of Nigeria.

Reasonably so, the government has engaged the NLC chairman and other stakeholders therein in underhanded political insincerely just to make sure the group keeps quiet and continue watching the government frustrating and sabotaging the future of Nigerian students with unnecessary strike while political activities continue unabated.

For the sake of history, the name of the current NLC chairman is Ayuba Wabba. In record, let it be written and kept that in his own time, public education, among other deficiencies, dies like a woman who has died long ago. It is also expedient to note that, henceforth, critical scrutiny for accessment of nationalistic prowess and humanitarian acuity should be objectively exercised before any individual would be elected into comradeship positions. Doing this would deter politically affiliated people from getting to the zenith of such sensitive positions. To a large extent, brusqueness demands that a spade should be called a spade and not a shovel. Ipso facto, the current NLC leadership is a major playmaker in the downcast of education as well as other institutions in Nigeria.

LiteratureThe Differences Between Shakespearean Sonnet, Petrarchan Sonnet, Miltonic Sonnet by Emeritus1200(op): 3:16pm On Aug 27, 2022
Sonnet is a poem that has fourteen lines written in iambic pentameter, five stressed syllables and five unstressed syllables. It is derived from the Italian word, sonetto, which means a little sound or song. The theme of sonnet centers on love, betrayal, hatred, affection, unrequited love. A sonnet has a regular rhyme scheme.

Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day?
Thou art more lovely and more temperate.
Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May,
And summer’s lease hath all too short a date.

Sometime too hot the eye of heaven shines,
And often is his gold complexion dimmed;
And every fair from fair sometime declines,
By chance, or nature’s changing course, untrimmed;

But thy eternal summer shall not fade,
Nor lose possession of that fair thou ow’st,
Nor shall death brag thou wand'rest in his shade,
When in eternal lines to Time thou grow'st.

So long as men can breathe, or eyes can see,
So long lives this, and this gives life to thee.

Forms of Sonnets

Petrarchan Sonnet
Petrarchan sonnet stemmed from Francesco Petrarch, an Italian poet, who wrote most of his poems to Laura, a married woman who never gave him any attention and barely knew that he existed. Petrarch was one of the first sonnet poets with da Lentini and others. Petrarchan sonnet is divided into two; octet/octave and sextet/sestet. An idea will be raised in the octet and it will be solved or resolved in the sextet. The octave has a regular rhyme scheme, which is; ABBAABBA but the sextet has two rhythm schemes which can be CDCCDC or CDECDE.

Shakespearean Sonnet
Shakespearean Sonnet also known as Elizabethan sonnet or English sonnet is the simplest and commonest sonnet among all. It originated from the popular poet and playwright, William Shakespeare. Shakespeare who 154 sonnets. His sonnets have a compelling rhyme scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF . This means that his sonnets have three quatrains and a couplet.

Spenserian Sonnet
Spenserian Sonnet and Shakespearean sonnet are contemporaneous because their originators are contemporaries. Spenserian Sonnet stemmed from Edmund Spenser, an English poet. The only difference between the two sonnets is the rhyme schemes. Spenserian Sonnet rhyme scheme: ABAB BCBC CDCD EE

Miltonic Sonnet
Miltonic sonnet is from John Milton, an English poet who witnessed Shakespeare last eight years on earth. He brought few changes to Shakespearean sonnets which are the theme, and at times, rhythm and length. The theme changes from materialism to internal struggle or conflict.

EducationA Good News/ Good News/ Some Good News: Which One Is Correct? by Emeritus1200(op): 2:43pm On Aug 27, 2022
The word, news, is a mass count noun also known as non count noun or uncountable noun as known by many. It is among the examples of nouns that cannot be numbered.

Other examples of uncountable nouns are: bread, chalk, water, blood, furniture, equipment, salt, cement, sand, luggage, baggage, oil, dirt, grease, information, advice, etc.

Do not use article A or An for any of the uncountable nouns. It is wrong to say: a news, an equipment, a furniture, a luggage etc. Instead, use them without article A or An, such as; news, equipment, furniture etc.

Examples: I read a news sometimes ago (wrong)

I read news sometimes ago (correct)

However, some good news is correct because it is allowed in English to use some before uncountable nouns.
