Education can never and will never be a scam. It isn’t a fraudulent deal. You pay for it and get something in return. We all know that no school or department guarantees you employment or wealth after graduation. However, all departments in all tertiary institutions promise you one thing, which is knowledge. The primary importance of education is the acquisition of knowledge. You pay money to acquire knowledge. It is the responsibility of the students or graduates to know how to translate the knowledge acquired into wealth. Nevertheless, this depends on the capacity of the students to solve problems, create values and the heights of knowledge acquired. If anyone doesn’t know how to make his life great, that is a self scam. People who don’t have formal education are doing well for themselves. Why will there be an exception for some people who are educated? The people who are doing most greatly are educated people. In fact, the people who make this world a good place to live are the educated people. People who make innovations and inventions are educated. People who are at the helm are educated. People who fight for humanity are educated. Then, why will someone wake up and proclaim that education is a scam? Isn’t it annoying? Please don’t subscribe to the school of thought that education is a scam. The expression is meant to weaken your spirit before you start the race. And it will result in your retardation academically, which can later make you become a failure, if care isn’t taken. The level of your knowledge determines the people you will meet in life and how far you can grow and go in life. This time around, gather much knowledge and read as if your life depended on it. Personal growth is key. There are huge opportunities everywhere available for brilliant people. However, I need to say this: see, everything you can get through dubious means can be got in ten folds through legitimate means. There are students let alone graduates who are millionaires without engaging in fraud or prostitution. Therefore, all you need to do is to identify people’s needs, solve it for them and give them value. The people pay for every problem solved. If you aren’t solving any problem, you will open your mouth tomorrow to say that education is a scam. https://www.emeritushub.com/education-is-not-a-scam/ |
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has called off its 8 months old strike today. The National Executive Council of the union held a series of meetings yesterday to finalize the call to end the protracted strike. However, many of the branches of the union have voted for the suspension of the strike. ASUU went on strike on February 14, and called off the strike on October 14. The lingering industrial action has generated a lot of controversies. It has made many to inveigh ASUU and the federal government. Stakeholders in the education sector berated the FG for being insensitive towards the welfarism of its employees. They also criticized ASUU of its insensitivity towards the plight of the Nigerian students. Both ASUU and FG became obstinate. The FG through the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, sued ASUU to court in the Industrial Court. The verdict of the jury of the Industrial Court mandated ASUU to resume academic activities on campuses. Nonetheless, the body filed a suit to the court of appeal in Abuja against the verdict of the Industrial Court. The court of appeal panel asserted that before it could hear the suit of ASUU, the body should first obey the verdict of the Industrial Court. In the last few days, there were a lot of reports suggesting the possible reactions of ASUU towards the verdict of the court of appeal. However, the intervention of the Speaker of The House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, had calmed the tension amidst the strike. Femi Gbajabiamila engaged in a series of meetings between the FG and ASUU. He expressly told Nigerians on Wednesday that the strike would soon be called off. At the NEC meeting held yesterday night till the midnight of today, the body of the university lecturers has finally announced that its eight months old strike has been called off. ASUU had gone on strike in 16 months from 2022 to 2023. With the suspension of the strike, students can now be returning on campus for academic activities. The management of every school will determine the resumption date for academic activities in their respective schools. Nevertheless, the set date for resumption is October 16. https://www.emeritushub.com/ASUU-calls-off-its-8-months-old-strike/ |

Types of Characters There are many types of characters, such as, eponymous characters, round and flat characters, major and minor characters, antiheroes, archetypal characters etc. Eponymous Character: This is the character whose name is also the title of the story: play, novel etc. Example: Othello in Shakespeare's play titled Othello Flat Character: The unique characteristics of a flat character is predictability. UI Professor Harasses Female Student A professor of University of Ibadan, Professor John Anthony Wood, was seen, in a video shared on YouTube harassing, a female student. The prominent professor of the Department of Chemistry harassed the lady for using a skateboard in the school. Professor Wood in the video that went viral on the internet asserted that using a skateboard could endanger the lives of people and motorists. Therefore, he called on the security to arrest the lady, who is a student of the university. Watch the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VLLsYuQ1mW8 The effort of the female student to placate Professor Wood proved abortive as the renowned professor was not ready to have any conversations with the girl. He berated the girl and called on the security operatives heavily to arrest the girl. The angry professor also told the security operatives to arrest a man who tried to be the trouble shooter. The man had told the professor to let the girl explain herself and let her go. But the professor told the security men to arrest both of them. Many netizens condemned the tirade of the professor of Chemistry, who specializes in Inorganic/Coordination Chemistry. They claimed that the professor was power-drunk for refusing to let the girl speak. They asserted that the issue might have been settled amicably with no need to arrest the girl and the man. However, the news came in the wake of the expectation of Nigerian students to resume on campus after 238 days stoppage of academic activities on campus. Many students have come out to share their experiences about how some lecturers assault them physically. The Academic Staff Union of Union (ASUU) have gone on strike since February 14 to press home its demand from the federal government. However, the FG has become inactive and insensitive on the issues that concern the students, the future of the country, until recently when the speaker of the House of Representative, Femi Gbajabiamila, intervened in the issue. Nonetheless, the students expect the ASUU to call off the strike today since the FG is now ready to meet its demands. https://www.emeritushub.com/ui-professor-harasses-female-student/ |

Many people all over the world often use either “Wake-keep or Wake-Keeping” for a period of someone’s death before or after the burial of the body. However, both words are un-English; they aren’t correct. The correct English is Wake. Wake is the period of someone’s death before or after the body is buried or cremated. Wake-Keeping — Wrong Wake-keep — Wrong Wake — Right Example: The Christian wake of the old woman will be held on Thursday. https://www.emeritushub.com/wake-wake-keeping-wake-keep/ |

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) is set to call off the industrial action today. The union has gone on strike since February 14, which will be eight months old on Friday, this week. The ASUU went on strike to press home its demands for salary augmentation, revitalization fund and others. The body has become notorious in using industrial action to make its protest known to the government. However, the ASUU has been the union fighting aggressively for the stand of standard education in Nigeria. The panel of the supreme court, last week, ordered ASUU to resume academic activities on campus before the appellate court could listen to the suit of the body. ASUU, since then, has become silent, assumably looking for any loophole in the verdict of the court of appeal panel. Reports that came out suggested that ASUU would resume, but would not teach the students and later went on another strike within the twinkle of an eye. The House of Representative speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila, had intervened in the tussle between the federal government and ASUU. He had unequivocally stated that the students, the victims of the brouhaha, must go back to schools. He had a meeting with the FG last week, but no one could fathom the outcome of it. However, Mr Gbajabiamila told the members of ASUU and the press yesterday that the president would speak to the public today. Reports actually suggested that both ASUU and FG wanted to bury their respective hatchets. The remark of the ASUU chairman, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, affirmed that all is set for the Nigerian students to resume academic activities soon. He expressed that the union is ready to resume academic activities soon. So, Nigerians should hope earnestly today that the lingering industrial action will be called off today as both ASUU and FG will hold their respective press conference today. https://www.emeritushub.com/ASUU-sets-to-call-off-strike-today/ |

christejames:There are many essay competitions in Nigeria. But most of them aren't prominent to people's ears. |
“When you keep doing something, you become it. When you read persistently, you become the walking textbook.” Actually, no one is dull. Everyone has an intellectual prowess. Nonetheless, the usages differ. But what is worth doing is worth doing well. A student who wants to be educated must take it seriously, beyond being a mediocrity. The difference in the schools’ cut off marks depend on the preparation of the aspirants. No institutions just wake up and make their cut off marks known. The performance of the aspirants determine the cut off marks. After knowing the above, the best favour you can do for yourself is to be the determinant of your own future. You can determine your academic future by preparing excellently more than your mates. Do not leave your future for chance. Take the bull by its horn. Tips To Passing UTME 1. Have Time For Reading Daily A student who wants to pass UTME successfully should have time for reading. You have a specific time to read. I will advise you to read for at least six hours per day. You do not know your competitors —–fellow aspirants struggling for the admission slots with you. Some are reading for more than 12 hours per day. How do you compete with them? You can only compete with them when you read intensively. 2. Run Away From Any Distraction As a tutor, I have seen many aspirants that are into one or two things aside education. It is advisable to quit doing anything that can distract you. The preparation for UTME takes a period of 3 months to 8 months. Make sure that you concentrate fully on the exam. Division of mind may cause failure. 3. Have 2-3 Textbooks For Different Subjects Make sure that you read different textbooks for each subject. It allows you to have a better understanding of the topics in the subjects. It also exposes you to having some points that are not in the other textbooks. And most times, it will give you more details about the topics. 4. Take Note Of Every Detail Avoid self deception. It will only make you think that you know much. Read the textbook intensively. Don’t assume that you know anything. Don’t ever think that you know a particular topic very well. Never leave any stones unturned. You need to read from topic to topic, word to word, sentence to sentence, page to page, and paragraph to paragraph. Do not jump. Do not think that something is irrelevant. Everything in the textbook is meant for your reading consumption. 5. Read From Front Cover To Back Cover This can be a difficult task, but it can’t when you are really focused. I did it in my time. You can also do it. Read each textbook from the front cover to the back cover, at least, twice. You can read it as many times as possible. I know a particular textbook that I read for 6 times. It isn’t difficult. When you keep doing something, you become it. You become the walking textbook. By doing this, you will know all points in each topic. You can teach people different topics without using textbooks. By then, you will have become the textbook. Continue reading: https://www.emeritushub.com/how-to-prepare-for-utme/ |

It is now viral on social media that men should suck their wives’ breasts in a bid to avoid breast cancer. Thanks to the video interview of an oncologist that went viral early this month. Dear admission seekers, I first congratulate you for entering another level of your academic pursuits. It isn’t an easy route. You have endured a lot in every previous level of your academic career. Some have quit; some are tired, but you keep going despite the fact that the going gets tougher. I salute your courage. You deserve all the encomiums showered on you. However, you have to know that you are at the crossroads of your academic career. Any path that you take may be prosperous or disastrous. It is essential for you to take the right path so that your joy of getting admission may be full, even after graduation. Following the right path will make you choose the right school, course of study, subject combination and a good career. Many often fail in this step. Hence, they always have regrets of their actions dated to their admission-seeking days. “No one wins a battle in doubt.” I know you are doubtful of your capacity. You ask many questions in your thoughts. Can I pass the UTME? Can I score 200 and above, even 300+? Will I gain admission to study this course of choice? What will happen if I fail to pass or meet the cut off? Will I sit for the exam next year? Will I not be left behind by my mates who will get admission this year? Can I opt for another course instead of taking the risk to study this competitive course? What is my fate if I get this score? These and a lot of questions incessantly overshadow most Jambitee’s minds. Nonetheless, you ought to know that no one wins a battle in doubt. You have to have assurance that the admission is yours. Do not doubt your capacity. All that you need is to go for the gold: your course of choice and the preferred institution. You can if you believe that you can. Focus on what you desire. You are just a step away from actualizing your dream. “You must know that you are your own limit. Your greatest enemy is yourself.” To begin with, you must know that you are your own limit. Your greatest enemy is yourself. You are the only one who can stop yourself from actualizing your goals. Having known this, you have to take your future in your hands. Be determined to succeed. Imagine that someone dreams of going to Canada, but the person doesn’t take a step of going to the embassy to collect a visa. Can the person actualize his/her dream? Likewise, a candidate who dreams of studying a particular course but does not take any steps to read his/her books carefully and intensively, can the student get the admission? The bridge between your dream and its actualization is determination. When a dreamer is determined, the actualization of the dream is as easy as ABC. Now, that course you dream to study, how determined are you to see yourself studying it in your preferred institution? After your determination, the next thing is preparation.
