I'm not Igbo, but as someone from the Niger Delta, I have come to understand that Igbos are not bigots. We saw how they condemned Ekweremadu during the kidney transplant saga. They've also publicly condemned Orji Kalu, Rochas, Ipkeazu etc. The Igbos may be annoying and like bragging a lot but they're not bigots.

How the same people that claim to be accommodators attacked people because of election still baffles me. If someone should tell me that what happened in Lagos during the just concluded election can happen in 2023 I won't believe it. How can you people look at an infamous globally know drug lord and still support him to rule Nigeria? Just howhuh

PoliticsTinubu urges Christians to recommit to patriotic pursuits in Easter message by EmirGold(op): 8:08am On Apr 09, 2023
The President-elect, Senator Bola Tinubu, has enjoined Christians to recommit themselves to edifying and patriotic pursuits in the interest of the nation as they celebrate Easter.

He gave the charge in his Easter message to Christians on Saturday in Abuja, saying they should reflect on the priceless sacrifice and limitless love of God for mankind.

“I send my best wishes to Christians in Nigeria and all over the world who are celebrating Easter this Sunday.

“As we all enjoy the well-deserved break, I urge every Nigerian to reflect on the priceless sacrifice and limitless love of God for mankind.
“As we celebrate, let us also remember our obligation, as God’s children, to love our neighbour, regardless of tongue, faith and tribe,”
he said.

He noted that for Christians everywhere, Easter celebration was in commemoration of Jesus Christ’s life of service and his supreme sacrifice for the salvation of mankind.
He further charged the faithful to imbibe the essential message of Christ’s ministry and truly begin to love our fellow Nigerians as we love ourselves as they celebrate Easter.

“We will make faster progress towards the achievement of the peaceful, united, strong, progressive and prosperous country we all desire.

“If we eschew divisive, parochial, ethnic and religious sentiments and rivalries, and begin to live more harmoniously with our compatriots,”
Tinubu said.

He further noted that Easter was about renewed hope and redemption, saying it symbolises the triumph of hope over despair, love over hate and condemnation, and optimism over cynicism.

“Let us embrace this spirit and recommit ourselves to edifying and patriotic pursuits in the interest of our nation,” Tinubu urged.

PoliticsChimamanda Adichie's Epistle Of Garbage By Femi Fani-kayode by EmirGold(op): 11:49am On Apr 08, 2023
CHIMAMANDA'S EPISTLE OF GARBAGE by Femi Fani-Kayode

Chimamanda Adichie's "hollow democracy" diatribe is a shitty little submission, in a shitty little letter, written by a shitty little diva.
It was hardly worth my time to read and ordinarily I would not have bothered.
Like all fecal waste it belongs in one place and one place alone: the bottom of a public toilet.
We do not need any lessons from this over-rated and Igbocentric new age diva.

Neither do we need to respond to her self-serving, self-seeking, jaundiced, subjective, partial, primitive, tribal observations and implausible ethno-religious sentiments.
If anyone needs to know that lawlessness has consequences it is her candidate Peter and not the Nigerian people.
And if anything is hollow it is her well-manicured diva head and not our democracy.

She is not in this league and she would do well to stick to writing fairy tales.
Running to foreign leaders to report your compatriots does not sit well with me no matter what your Uncle Tom credentials may be.

If you do not have respect for your own people and nation and if you have to go cap in hand to foreigners for validation then you are not worthy of being called a human being let alone a Nigerian.

Africa has come of age. We do not need to get a congratulatory note from any Western nation before we sleep well at night.
This is not some Hollywood film script or fantasy fairy tale.

This is about the destiny, future, welfare and fortune of 250 million Nigerian people who deserve to have their place under the sun as a free, progressive and independent nation and not to be treated like some vassal state or an appendage of others.

What this unpatriotic, hate-filled and overrated little diva has written is nothing but a long-winded, empty, tendentious and boring epistle of dishonest garbage.

It is a litany of unwholesome mendacities designed to undermine our democracy, impress her global audience and incite her local 'Obidient' tribesmen against the Nigerian people and state.

It is a refection of her low-self esteem and inability to grasp the fact that no nation or people on earth are perfect in all their ways and that the America she is reporting us to is also in many ways questionable and flawed and faced with many challenges.
The little diva is not worthy of much of our attention.
She deserves nothing from us except ridicule, scorn and contempt.

She should give us a break, spare the world her unsolicited counsel, desist from denigrating her nation from a foreign land, stop reporting Nigeria to her slave masters and, as President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda would say, "go and eat her mother's something" .

PoliticsSoyinka Challenges Labour Party's Datti To Live Debate On TV by EmirGold(op): 12:23pm On Apr 07, 2023
Wole Soyinka, the Nobel laureate, has challenged Datti Baba-Ahmed, Vice-Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party (LP) to a live debate on national television.

On March 22, in an interview with Channels TV, Datti said the country has no president-elect despite the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announcing Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the election.

The LP vice-presidential candidate said Tinubu would be leading an unconstitutional government if sworn into office because the APC candidate “has not met requirements of the law”.

The interview elicited criticism from political stakeholders as well as a N5 million fine for the TV station.

Reacting in a chat with Arise TV on Wednesday, Soyinka said the remarks are a “kind of do-or-die attitude and provocation” that goes contrary to democratic disposition.

He added that the LP vice-presidential candidate tried to “dictate to the supreme arbiter of the nation”, adding that it was unacceptable.

However, Soyinka’s statement has earned him criticism and abuse from the ‘Obidients’, especially on social media platforms.

Reacting in a statement on Friday, the Nobel laureate condemned the fine slammed on Channels Television for airing the ‘incisive interview’ with Labour Party vice presidential candidate.

Soyinka said he was willing to engage Datti or any nominee of his on the platform “on this very bone of contention – one-on-one – without the malodorous intervention of media trolls, and with the same interviewer as mediator.”

He said, May I cease this opportunity, by the way, to condemn the sanctions imposed on CHANNELS Television which anchored the performance of the LP candidate. As stated, I watched the programme keenly – saw the valiant efforts of the interviewer to ensure fair hearing. I fail to understand just where the station could be faulted, except from a disposition for injustice.

To sustain that penalty is to give joy to others who turn Internet into a soakaway for their rancid emissions, yet feel that others should be silenced. If CHANNELS feels up to it, I offer myself willing to engage Mr. Datti – or any nominee of his - on its platform on this very bone of contention – one-on-one – without the malodorous intervention of media trolls, and with the same interviewer as mediator. That should be taken as a serious offer.

“Project NIGERIA, I must confess, has become near terminally soul-searing. Do I still believe in it? I am no longer certain but - first we must rid ourselves of the tyranny of the ignorant and the opportunism of time-servers. In any case, there is not much else to engage one on a foundation of ownership stakes.

“There is of course, always the possibility of a Revolution, with a clarity of purpose and acceptance of all attendant risks, including costly errors. Revolutions are not however based on the impetus of speculative power entitlement.

“No matter, until that moment, the structures that ensure just and equitable cohabitation must be protected from partisan appropriation - be it from material inducement, fake news, or verbal terrorism – the last being the contribution of one who is positioned to assume co-leadership of the nation, no less. Revolution is not about lining up behind the nearest available symbol. When a symbol does emerge however, we are still obliged to examine every aspect of what is fortuitously on offer, and continue to guard our freedoms every inch of the way.

“Before I take myself off for – well, next port of call – the final word goes to a favourite maverick, propagated even as he matched his words by action. I suspect that in this instance we find ourselves on opposite sides of the strategic fence – that is democracy. This now coopted watchword of his formulation remains apt, applicable to all who strive for authentic social transformation: Your mummu done do!”

Soyinka also said the attacks against him for criticising Datti Yusuf Baba-Ahmed for insisting that the Supreme Court must rule in the party’s favour justifies his earlier comment that fascism was taking over the political arena.

He said, “It would appear that a record discharge of toxic sludge from our notorious smut factory is currently clogging the streets and sewers of the Republic of Liars. It goes to prove the point that provoked the avalanche EXACTLY! The seeds of incipient fascism in the political arena have evidently matured.

“A climate of fear is being generated. The refusal to entertain corrective criticism, even differing perspectives of the same position has become a badge of honour and certificate of commitment. What is at stake, ultimately is – Truth, and at a most elementary level of social regulation: when you are party to a conflict, you do not attempt to intimidate the arbiter, attempt to dictate the outcome, or impugn, without credible cause, his or her neutrality even before hearing has commenced.”

PoliticsCourt Remands Fredrick Nwajagu, Lagos Eze Igbo Over Inciting Comment by EmirGold(op): 8:40am On Apr 06, 2023
The Lagos State Magistrates’ Court in Yaba, on Wednesday, ordered that the Eze Igbo of Ajao Estate, Fredrick Nwajagu, be remanded at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre.

Nwajagu was arrested last Saturday following a viral video, in which he threatened to invite members of the Indigenous People of Biafra to Lagos to secure properties of Igbo people living in the state.

The 67-year-old was arraigned on Wednesday before the magistrate court, presided over by P. E. Nwaka.

The police charged him with two counts, bordering on misconduct and intention to cause a breach of peace in Lagos State.

The four-man police prosecution team, led by the OC Legal, Yetunde Cardoso, told the court that Nwajagu committed the offence on March 26, 2023, at No 2 Akeem Shittu Street, Ajao Estate, Lagos.

“The defendant conducted himself in a manner likely to cause a breach of the peace by making inciting statements, saying that he would bring IPOB terrorist group to shut down Lagos for one month, three weeks, or three days,” the prosecution said.

According to the team, the offences contravened Sections 168 (d), 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

They prayed the court to remand the defendant in the correctional centre for 30 days pending legal advice from the Lagos State Directorate of Public Prosecutions.

However, counsel for the defendant, while moving their client’s bail application, urged the court to admit the defendant to bail in the most liberal terms.

The magistrate, who rejected the counsel’s plea, ordered the immediate remand of the defendant to the Ikoyi Correctional Centre pending legal advice from the DPP.

The PUNCH reports that Nwajagu, in a 49-second video, which went viral on Twitter, had allegedly threatened to invite IPOB members to Lagos to protect the Igbo people and their properties in the state.

In the viral video, he said, “IPOB, we will invite them. They have no job. All of the IPOB will protect all of our shops. And we have to pay them. We have to mobilise for that. We have to do that. We must have our security so that they will stop attacking us at midnight, in the morning, and in the afternoon.

“When they discover that we have our security before they will come, they will know that we have our men there. I am not saying a single word to be hidden. I am not hiding my words, let my words go viral. Igbo must get their right and get a stand in Lagos State.”

However, the Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, reacting to his statements, said the command would resist IPOB presence in the state.

Following the statement, the defendant was arrested by the Department of State Services on April 1, 2023, in a hotel in Ejigbo.
