emofine:@taniboo Actually I revise that statement. I am only partially satisfied because you've managed to answer the first part of my query. However there are no trees on earth that offers us any spiritual enlightenment i.e. knowledge of good and evil. Thus I wondered if this tree was figurative, symbolic or spiritual and not a literal tree instead. |

victorazy: claremont:Point taken. Whilst I was narrating from my own perspective I recognize my definition cannot fit all but I suppose in light of this very theme it would have been suitable if I employed a definition offered by a religious scripture. |

^^Oh okay, I thought all holy books adhering to each of the Abrahamic faiths featured the scene of the Garden of Eden in their particular scripture - maybe I'm wrong sha. |
Oh dear I just quickly revised the book of Genesis and I have made some mistakes here. Before they sinned in Genesis chapter 2 verse 25 it reads: And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and they were not ashamed (KJV) So they did know they were naked before the introduction of sin and not only after. After they had just committed sin in Genesis chapter 3 verse 7a it reads: And the eyes of them were both opened, and they knew that they were naked; (KJV) I think the verse above may be referring to their spiritual disposition. After they were expelled from the Garden of Eden they procreated (I don't know if this was the very first time however after reading the last verse in Gen: Ch 3 )Gen 4: 1a,b And Adam knew Eve; and she conceived and bare Cain (KJV) Just wanted to clear up my mistakes sha even though now I'm even more confused. |
Sweetnecta:I think the tree of life could also be an imagery representing Jesus Christ, as whoever believes in him will have eternal life - (so the scriptures says, not my words) If man was purposed to die in the garden, how comes God warned them if they so much as even touched the tree of knowledge of good and evil they would die - "neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die" ![]() i don't know about Eden or the garden being on earth, but Adam and Eve were created in heaven and told to enter Paradise and dwell in its safety, except not to approach this specific tree, because they will become wrong doers.Interesting - the bible does mention more than one heaven even though I'm not too versed on that account. |

oh so u neva see de bobo toasting her before again and again? ![]() |
Your advert of your topic on my thread led me here, savvy I must say ![]() Can a Christian science teacher be truly comfortable in teaching her students that human beings evolved from apes and that big bang was the cause of earth's existence when her bible tells her otherwise? It would compromise her faith and be contradictory for her to teach something she herself does not believe. This is a real life scenario I have rendered. I knew a christian science teacher who abstained from teaching that aspect of science because of her beliefs - I guess she knew when and where to draw the line. |

I understand that particular setting occurred in a time and atmosphere (i.e. sinless) different to ours however some imagery depicted in the bible makes me wonder whether there were elements or maybe even the whole Garden was actually symbolic/figurative rather than literal. For example if we consider the tree of good and evil. . . no single tree in this world can bear forth two types of fruits nor are the produce of such trees of character or spiritual traits - even other trees present in the Garden where of such nature i.e. tree of life. |
I will admit that I haven't read through this whole topic thoroughly however as a "non-believer" I expect the reward for righteousness/obedience to be unparalleled and unmatched. If Paradise is the ultimate reward then how comes themes, elements found on earth will still occur in Paradise. I would rather be enthralled by unexpected occurrences/ happenings which cannot be found or have an equivalent here on earth - it's supposed to appeal to my higher nature. At this current stage being persuaded to be a member of the X-men is more exciting as I will potentially exercise certain abilities such as flying or walking through walls that are otherwise impossible here on earth or in my current body ![]() |
