No shaykh empiree I don't agree with this, firstly the major characteristic is that it has to be just, why is it that most people (esp.muslims) get away with blasphemy of other religions except for Islam or is the law applicable only to Islam , secondly is that if this guy is a son of a powerful politician the highest that can happen is to tender an apology it would never come to this. I am not saying that blasphemy is good or should be encouraged, but Nigeria is a nation of multiple religion and all these religion must be respected if we are to be just. I will say this is pure oppression, go and check El-Rufai tweet about Jesus (as) it is such an unfortunate comment he made there using a whole prophet as an item of joke this is not the type of law true Muslims should encourage.

Any reasonable legislative system will place blasphemy under free speech...The only systems where blasphemy is punishable are religious either overtly (like Saudi Arabia) in the name of offending religious sentiments)...

The problem with these religious laws is that they punish people for doing things that don't harm anybody like gays having sex and so on.. these are entirely personal choices for the actions not resulting in harm for anyone else...

If you don't believe that someone else's god/prophet isn't a real god/prophet then you shouln't get all worked up when that someone tells you that your god/prophet isn't real either...

The case of blasphemy is doubly funny cos every religious cleric blasphemes on other religions...For example the first chapter of Qur'an labels the Jews and Christians as the cursed ones and those wo have gone astray... Imagine a non-muslim saying something similar about Islam/Muslims .. the extremists would be shouting blaaasphemeee...

Religion is supposed to thrive on comparison with other religions...Show what is wrong with other religions and invite followers of those religions to your religion.... .. it's that simple..
