#IT was reported in VIRTUES OF SALAT by SHEIKHUL HADITH: MUHAMMAD ZAKARIYYA KANDHALWI (ra) that :

Imam HANBAL (ra) used to offer 300 rakhat daily, then after he was lashed by the abbasid caliph MA‘MUM he reduced it to 150 rakhat daily. He was around 80 years old @ the time.

#Same Imam HANBAL authorized the recitation of dua‘i KHATMAT QURAN in taraweeh, he told them to lift their hands after NASS before rukh & recite the dua. When asked for its isnad he claimed that SUFYAN ibn UYAUNA (a tabi‘i al tabi‘i) used to do so in makkah. as reported by ibn QUDAMA in MUGHNI 1:802

#Its no news that S. UMAR (ra) ‘innovated‘ TARAWEEH in congregetion but that he also increased it from 8 to 20. Then later generation of MADINITES increased it to 41 rakhats. (Imam MALIK later on developed his mazhab on the custom of the MADINAITES)

Jazakallah khayran. The third view is what is widely held by many Muslims until this new methodology emerged in recent decades. The first and second views restrict many Islamic activities and progression. There are things are are not static at all in islam. Islam is to be understood with TIME since Quran was revealed to serve the past, present and future. This is the opinion of the majority.

To be understood with TME doesn't mean changing legislation or religion. For instance, salat will forever remain 5 daily salat and their number of rakat will never change. Same with Ramadan and zakat and hajj. We cant change their respective times. But other activities may evolve and must be in harmony with Sharia'. This is what many Muslims understood. But if we are to apply first and second views only, then, Islam would remain in 6 century mentality.

Bid'a comes to mind IF a muslim decides to make subh rakat from 2 to 3 or change zhur and asr from 4 to 5 or Maghrib from 3 to 4 or isha from 4 to 6 etc. This is bid'a. All other activities like Mawlud, walimot, group dhirk, group dua, all types of Islamic gathering are born out of necessity. We dont go about nabi didnt gather here and there, sahaba didnt gather here and there, therefore, it is bid'a if we do. Thats nonsense excuse me.

And playing professional football is not "path of iblis" unless there is decisive evidence to suggest so. It is simply a sport. It is not a simple haram issue. The conditions the brother brought up as evidence of its haram apply to many other legitimate businesses, jobs (restaurants) and other activities. Does it make working in restaurant haram?. So this is not haram or halal issue. It is a matter of ijtihad but they wanted to make it sound like it is haram to play professional football. If it is not haraam, then, it is not path of shaytan.

@albaair, sheikh Adam (ra) used to recite basmala at the begining of every sura in salat. I personally see no big deal in it. It is a matter of iktilaf. After all a deliberately "missing" basmala in one sura was ingrained later in another sura. So this is why thee might be difference of opinion.

It is clear from demmy's post last quoted by albaqir that demmy doesn't know what is sufism?. I will now place him in the same category with alhusunnah guy.

Too bad you guys actually think sufism is a different religion. God go punish whoever taught you this. Sufism is just a phrase that describes what is already ingrained in the kitab and sunnah. You guys are so mesmerized by name or term instead of looking at the larger picture (ESSENCE).

Quran speaks about purification of soul. It is the same as ihsan, tazkiyah, tasawuf. And we see bunch of examples in hadith. Albaqir just summed it up. Nabi isa alaiysalamm was ogbologbo sufi. And the master of sufis was mustafa mummad (saw) himself. Sufi is not a sect but the very spiritual heart of Islam.

Chai, albaqir, thats deep. Sheikh Habib's Ramadan last lecture in 2016 was really poweful that he destoyed them all. The salafists later said "all we know is one man can not be all right against entire us"

This doesnt necessarily mean i agree with everything Sheikh Habib said especially on the return of Isa ibn Maryam(as) and Imam Mahdi(as), ilm Batin etc. But on Bukhari issue, wallahi, he has many points to reason with.
