In a similar tradition, the Messenger of Allah said:

"Allah said, 'I will declare war against him who shows hostility to a friend* (walî) of Mine.

"And the most beloved things with which My slave comes nearer to Me, is what I have enjoined (frD) upon him; and My slave keeps on coming closer to Me through performing nawâfil (praying or doing extra deeds besides what is obligatory) till I love him,

"so I become his sense of hearing with which he hears, and his sense of sight with which he sees, and his hand with which he grips, and his leg with which he walks;

"and if he asks Me, I will give him, and if he asks My protection (Refuge), I will protect him; (i.e. give him My Refuge) and I do not hesitate to do anything as I hesitate to take the soul of the believer, for he hates death, and I hate to disappoint him."

Narrated by Abu Huraira in Bukhari, vol 8, hadith 509
* "Friend of Allah" (walî) is sometimes translated as "pious worshipers of Allah", thus degrading their rank, diminishing their importance for the believers and the whole of the Ummah.

@sino:

2. For someone who agrees that we can do more than what was prescribed by the Prophet (SAW), is the Tahajud of the Prophet (SAW) not a nawafil, is there any narration that the Prophet (SAW) fixed number for it?
Did Umar(ra) made it mandatory to pray 20?
Absolutely not

What do you mean by not doing more nawafil?

I got this...

On the authority of Abu Hurayrah raDiy-Allahu-anhu.gif may Allah be pleased with him, who said that the Messenger of Allah said: Allah - may His Majesty be exalted ! - said:

"Whosoever shows enmity to someone devoted to Me, I shall be at war with him.

"My servant draws not near to Me with anything more loved by Me than the religious duties I have enjoined upon him, and My servant continues to draw near to Me with supererogatory works so that I shall love him.

"When I love him I am his hearing with which he hears, his seeing with which he sees, his hand with which he strikes and his foot with which he walks.

"Were he to ask [something] of Me, I would surely give it to him, and were he to ask Me for refuge, I would surely grant him it. I do not hesitate about anything as much as I hesitate about [seizing] the soul of My faithful servant: he hates death and I hate hurting him." It was related by al-Bukhari.

Islam › Re: Refuting The Arguments Of Those Who Celebrate The Mawlid By Sheik Salih Fawzan by Empiree:
You see, i don't have problem with anyone who does not accept Mawlud. But i say they should keep that to themselves instead of creating fitna over irrelevancies. And people that are doing these (refutations) these days are youths.

And their shuyuk directly and indirectly support them. This is fitna. They go around looking for faults in others. Many of them on Youtube, self-proclaimed righteousness. They came from nowhere refuting these old men with their half-baked ilm.

It's fitna for muslims to keep refuting one another over peanuts. Because of these rigid Muslims, many Muslims are afraid to say something. I am not. If i keep quiet only means that i want to avoid fitna. But sometimes, they need to be checked.

There is hadith that describes those people, when he (Allah's blessing be upon him and his household) was talking to his companions about some people or group that would emerge in the future, he said they will claim to know figh, Quran etc. They will recite Quran beautifully but doesn't go down their throat. They claim they know better than others. I believe 100% that those people are in the world today. Their understanding of the deen is very narrow.

It's very important to avoid arguing with them.

Albaqir: In the case of MAWLUD NABIYY, this is Ibn Taymiyyah:

Ibn Taymiyya
Ibn Taymiyya's opinion about Mawlid from the Collected Fatwas, Majma' Fatawa ibn Taymiyya (vol. 23, p. 163) and his lqtida' al-sirat al-mustaqim (p. 294-295) in the section entitled "The innovated festivities of time and place" (ma uhditha min al-a'yad al-zamaniyya wa al-makaniyya):
"And similarly what some people innovate by analogy with the Christians who celebrate the birth of Jesus, or out of love for the Prophet and to exalt him, and Allah may reward them for this love and effort, not on the fact that it is an innovation... To celebrate and to honor the birth of the Prophet and to take it as an honored season, as some of the people are doing, is good and in it there is a great reward, because of their good intentions in honoring the Prophet."

Are these all? grin

AbuHanifa:
Salam alaikum brothers and sisters. On my way to work this morning, I had a chat with a friend living in Abuja. At the end of the conversation, I greeted her Jumah Mubarak. She told me that was Bid'a. I told her I never paid any attention to such greetings but will make clarification from my brothers and sisters.

I told her I could be wrong by refuting her claims but told her that I would make consultation on this issue before I know where to stand. The evidence she gave goes thus:

What is the ruling on offering congratulations on Friday?
What is the ruling on offering congratulations on Friday, because now it is the custom in our country on Friday to send text messages and people congratulate one another on the occasion of Friday by saying “Jumu‘ah mubaarak” or “Jumu‘ah tayyibah.”.

Praise be to Allaah.

Firstly:

There is no doubt that Friday is an “Eid” or “festival” for the Muslims, as it says in the hadeeth narrated from Ibn ‘Abbaas (may Allah be pleased with him) who said: The Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: “This is a day of ‘Eid that Allah has ordained for the Muslims, so whoever comes to Jumu‘ah, let him do ghusl, and if he has any perfume let him put some on, and you should use the miswaak.” Narrated by Ibn Maaj
1098; classed as hasan by al-Albaani in Saheeh Ibn Maajah.

Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allah have mercy on him) said, describing the special virtues of Friday:

Thirteen: It is a day of ‘Eid that is repeated every week.

Zaad al-Ma‘aad, 1/369

Thus the Muslims have three Eids: Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha, which come once every year, and Jumu‘ah which is repeated once every week.
Secondly:

With regard to the Muslims congratulating one another on the occasions of Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha, this is prescribed and it is narrated from the Sahaabah (may Allah be pleased with them). This has been discussed previously in the answers to questions no. 49021 and 36442. As for congratulating one another on the occasion of Friday, what seems to us to be the case is that it is not prescribed, because the fact that Friday is an Eid was known to the Sahaabah (may Allah be pleased with them), and they were more knowledgeable than us about its virtues, and they were keen to respect it and give it its due, but there is no report to suggest that they used to congratulate one another on Fridays. And all goodness is in following them (may Allah be pleased with them).
Shaykh Saalih ibn Fawzaan (may Allah preserve him) was asked: What is the ruling on sending text messages every Friday and ending with the phrase “Jumu‘ah mubaarak”?

He replied:

The early generation did not congratulate one another on Fridays, so we should not introduce anything that they did not do.

End quote from Ajwabat As’ilah Majallat al-Da‘wah al-Islamiyyah.
A similar fatwa was issued by Shaykh Sulaymaan al-Maajid (may Allah preserve him), when he said:

We do not think it is prescribed to exchange congratulations on Fridays, such as saying to one another, “Jumu‘ah mubaarak” and so on, because it comes under the heading of du‘aa’s and dhikrs, which must be based on a text (of the Qur’aan or Sunnah) because this is purely the matter of worship and if it were good, the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) and his Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) would have done it before us. If anyone suggests that this is permissible, then that may imply that it is prescribed to say du‘aa’s and congratulate one another after having done the five daily prayers and other acts of worship, and du‘aa’ at these times was not done by the early generations.

End quote from the Shaykh’s website (may Allah preserve him)

Kindly send your objective opinion as that is the reason why it's thrown up in the forum.

Islam › Re: Refuting The Arguments Of Those Who Celebrate The Mawlid By Sheik Salih Fawzan by Empiree:
The thing is all respected sheikh and scholars you mentioned up there are not the only scholars. They stated their opinion doesnt mean it is valid. What i notice is that modern muslims who embrace salafi creed seem to listen to only scholars from certain region (arabia-middle east or middle eastern scholars) or those they influenced. Is that what islam teaches?.

Some of them dont even blink before they discard other scholars from Asia or Africa or elsewhere. Well, I have read and bookmarked article where ibn Taymmiyah(r) acknowledged Mawlud Nabi. Knowledge is broad and not restricted to section of people.

Abdul -Qadir Gilani (r) was more than a century older than ibn taymmiyah yet modern salafis dont seem to recognize him. Sheik Gilani recognized Mawlud. Or talking about 20th century scholars, giving reference to Ibn Baz who also opposed Mawlud, his contemporary was Sheik Adam Abdullah Al-ilory who also acknowldged and participated in Mawlud.

Knowledge of islam is not restrcited to only Arabs. As a matter of fact, it's said that rosul (Allah's blessing be upon him and his household) said in his farewell message....

"let those who are not present understand my message better than those that are present".

This even indicates possibilties of non-arabs understand islam better than his own folks.

Just like the above essay does not specifically indicate prohibition of Mawlud, it is only logical deduction. Those who acknowledged mawlud also gave logical deduction. I have learned a lot from Mawlud. That's where I reheased conversion story of Umar (r) and other stories when i was teen. Mawlud is not like drinking whiskey or beer.

Havent you listen to them ? You didnt learn anything?. I am sure some of you who oppose this practices are most likely invlove in unlawful activities on the very same day of mawlud while others attend and benefit from it.

Fact remains that if you are not invited and you show up at mawud and start shouting bid'ah, they reserved right to bundle and throw you out. That closes the argument.

What i know for certain is those who do lots of dhikr in the open and secret, those who do beyond fundamental layer definitely know and see more than many middle eastern scholars. They have firasa(discernment). And it is reported that prophet(Allah's blessing be upon him and his household) said fear firasa of mumin because a mumin see with insight.....which many don't have today. Wallahu ta'ala Allam

It's better to wait for permit before doing anything. Price to pay if rules are violated in NYC could be very painful. Afterall, if you dont get caught, it's all good.

"Solomakinde" are the problem. City agency (Dept of Building) don't just come. There got to be double reports before they jump on you.

Oh I knew and studied the rules for my township first before construction and I knew that the possibility of an inspection exists since the structure was very visible.

I've heard horror stories.

A coworker built his house by mistake 4 feet too close to the property line. The city wanted him to pull it down and rebuild. So he bought the lot next to him and combined it. Ended up being cheaper than demolishing the half built house.

The Inspectors do have a job though, at least they keep us safe in our homes.
Usually people for fall victims of "solomakinde" and and city fines are immigrants. They usually do not know but that's is not excuse in the eyes of law.

There are also many who deliberately added addition in violation of city regulations.

Structures under 100 square feet are not required to have a permit. This was 12 X 10 so it was actually 120 square feet. Jealous neighbor (who always asks me where I get my energy from) promptly turned me into the city.

City Inspector and I had a discussion about difference between heated and unheated space and which is counted towards the square footage. The little patio area there was not counted and got me to 105 or so square feet grin
There you go. Those fellas are crazy. There are lots of them in NYC. They report anything and everything.

This one you built, if it was nyc, without permits, them go give you bulala (fines) grin . After that, they would order you to demolish everything if the the zone doesn't permits it. Or order you to get permit and legalize it. All these will cost the crap out of your pocket, sir.

^ The thing is those people are on basics, that's it. But those who do more (beyond fundamental layer) also do basics, too. It's a must. But they are seen as abandoning basics which is not true.

By basics, i meant basic tenets documented (salat, zakat, haj, ramadan, Qadir). So you may not find bi'dah in that necessarily but instead a little twist within basics like tashahud, positioning etc. And also some Allah's attributes, they seem to get it wrong or a little wrong.

But on economy, both Islamic and secular economies, politics and many more of that, you will definitely find not only bi'dah but shirk using outstanding and dynamic interpretation of Quran and hadith. They do not understand modern economics/economy and monetary system, politics and application of Sharia, they do not understand many symbolic statements in Quran and hadith. They do not understand Islamic eschatology and epistemology.

This is just my opinion and observation of them. I believe that they follow narrow path and narrow understanding of the deen. That's, literal interpretation of religious text.
