Graduate lands interview after 'begging' for a job at traffic lights


JOHANNESBURG - A jobless chemical engineering graduate has received positive responses after standing at a busy intersection in Rosebank, with a placard, asking for work.

A photo of Anthea Malwandle, a BTech: Chemical Engineering graduate, was shared on social media prompting several calls from prospective employers.


When Malwandle completed her degree at the Vaal University of Technology (VUT) in 2015, she never anticipated that her job-seeking journey would be so arduous.

Since April last year, she has been hunting for graduate and internship programmes to no avail.

She took to the streets after calling many companies and visiting their offices to try schedule interview appointments.

Malwandle’s tale has moved many people and the determined woman says that she would love to work for petrochemical companies in the production of energy fuels.

Touched by her struggle, a Sasol employee called in to the Early Breakfast Show to request a meeting with her.

GIRL GANG RAPED AFTER BEING LURED BY A JOB INTERVIEW

A jobless chemical engineering graduate has received positive responses and negative attention after standing on a busy intersection in Rosebank, Gauteng looking for work.

A photo of the young graduate was shared on social media, and she has received several calls from prospective employers as a result.



Unfortunately some calls were from potential rapists, Malwandle received a call from a man who calls himself Jon Di Vet who promised her a job.

“He said he is coming to pick me up so he can interview me, he arrived in a tinted car and the moment I got in the car my face was covered and the car drove for an hour or so then I was taken to a building and raped by four white men, After five hours of being raped they covered my face again and I was dropped in Rosebank”. Cried Malwandle.

Rosebank police are busy with the investigations and they are pleading with anyone who has a lead to come forward.

Tragedy struck on Thursday at the Nnewi Government High School, Anambra State, after some suspected robbers stormed the schoolboys’ hostel, shooting sporadically.
It was learnt that the gunmen struck around 3am and shot dead a Senior Secondary School 3 pupil, identified as Anthony Chisom, before escaping with their loot.
PUNCH Metro gathered that one of the robbers had rushed to the hostel under the pretext of being chased by thieves.
After calling for help, knocking repeatedly on the hostel door, the pupils were said to have let him in and offered him a cup of water. Our correspondent gathered that the robber afterwards brought out a gun and ordered the students to submit their valuables.
The deceased was said to have managed to escape from the hostel and fled towards a lodge on the school premises where the corps members, who teach them, reside.
A source, who spoke to PUNCH Metro on the telephone on condition of anonymity, said one of the robbers, who were outside the hostel, ran after Chisom and shot him in the back, adding that one of the corps members who came out to respond to the distress call sustained gunshot injuries.
The source said, “I learnt that the robbers were four in number. One of them pretended as a victim to gain entrance into the hostel, while others lurked on the school premises. As soon as the students open the door for him, he brought out a gun and told them to submit their money and other valuables. Anthony (Chisom) managed to find his way out and ran to the corpers’ lodge, calling for help.
“The robber ran after him and shot him. He died on the spot. I learnt one of the corps members, who wanted to rescue the pupil, was also hit by a bullet, but he did not die. Anthony was in SS3 and he was preparing to sit for the National Examination Council exams. The atmosphere of the school is tense now. I was told that one of the robbers had been arrested.
Our correspondent could not get through to the school’s principal to get his comments on the incident as of press time.
However, the Anambra State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Alphonsus Okechukwu, confirmed the attack.
Okechukwu, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, said the command swung into action immediately the school alerted the police to the attack around 4am, adding that one of the suspected robbers had been apprehended. He said operatives of the command had intensified security in the school and promised to further update our correspondent on the incident.
He said, “I am not on the ground now; I travelled out of the state, but I am aware of the incident. The school principal called the police around 4am that some robbers stormed the school and shot a student dead. The command mobilised to the school to assess the situation and went after the robbers. A suspect had been picked up. Investigation is ongoing.”

Nigerian students under the aegis of Alliance of
Nigerian Students Against Neo-Liberal Attacks on
Thursday staged a public protest in Osogbo, the
Osun State capital, and called on anti- graft
agencies to arrest and prosecute the Vice
Chancellor, Prof. Bamitale Omole, for allegedly
mismanaging the university’s resources.

The Coordinator of the ANSA, Wole Olubanji, who
led scores of students to stage the protest also
asked the university to reinstate the students
union leaders suspended for seeking better
welfare for the students.

The protesting students said many petitions had
been written against the vice chancellor, saying
they had enough evidence to back their
allegations against him.

Olubanji said, “We are calling on President
Muhammadu Buhari, the National Assembly,
EFCC, ICPC and the Code of Conduct Bureau to
probe Prof. Bamitale Omole’s administration.
“Prof. Omole administration has earned over
N30bn from subventions, more than N1.5bn from school fees, billions of naira from ore-degree program besides funds received from special agencies such as World Bank, TETFUND etc and
money from internal sources including donations from corporate bodies. ”

Despite the fund, the students said their hostels
were in very poor condition; the lecture rooms
were over crowded and epileptic power supply
was the order of the day.

Lowo Oyediran Ajanaku, 38, was brutally stabbed to death early this morning allegedly by his wife Yewande Oyediran nee Fatoki, at their Akobo estate home in Ibadan in the wee hours of today Feb. 2nd. The woman is said to be a lawyer and a Staff of Directorate of public prosecution at the Ministry of Justice, Ibadan, Oyo state.

Lowo was allegedly stabbed after a domestic
dispute at their home. The woman hasn't been
arrested yet as she's said to have vanished after
the incident. The man's corpse has been
deposited at the mortuary while his friends are

climate conditions in Alps are pretty difficult
hotel will be able to work in two seasonal
settings: Summer and Winter.

The subclassification into three classes, namely
economy, business and superior is a
consequence of the social establishment and
wealth distribution.

Armin Senoner’s ‘semiotic alpine escape’ is a
conceptual plan for a hotel able to
accommodate all various needs of the low,
middle, and high, within a single establishment.
Height is given as a privilege, with the most
expensive, the richest guests accommodations
are designed on top building structure.

Other parts with service function have been
included, like retail stores, restaurants,
entertainment site like theaters etc.

Four students of the Obafemi Awolowo University
- Oduntan Bolanle, Bamigboye Grace, Agbelese
Mayowa and Anjorin Samuel have emerged
winner of the Chartered Institute Of Management
CIMA Global Business Challenge National.

Team Galactic, the group name emerged first out
of the 97 students that applied from 17
Universities in Nigeria. The group battled with
Federal University of Technology Owerri and
University of Ilorin in Court of Arbitration Lekki,
on Saturday 7th May, 2015 at the national final .
The team is billed to represent Nigeria at the
Global Final in Warsaw Poland August this year.

The Team Leader Oduntan Bolanle, from the
department of Electrical and Electronic expressed
her gratitude to God for the victory, and thanks
team members Grace Bamigboye, from
Accounting, Samuel Anjorin and Agbelese
Mayowa, both from Electrical and Electronic for
their endurance.

One of the key stake of the team Bamigboye
Grace, when asked how she feels said " Well i'm
happy because this is like the first official
challenge I will be involved in and by the grace of God galactic will emerge winner in Poland. All we
just ask for is your prayers".

On Thursday, April 2, it was announced that 17-
year-old progeria victim Hayley Okines had
passed away in East Sussex, England.

The condition called; Hutchinson Gilford
Progeria Syndrome, also known as HGPS or
Progeria, causes children with it age up to 10
times faster than normal.

Hayley’s mother, Kerry Okines, posted the
news on Facebook: “My baby girl has gone
somewhere better. She took her last breath in
my arms at 9.39 pm.”

Hayley – who BBC News say had the “body of a
104-year-old” – was being treated in the
hospital for pneumonia, but she returned home
shortly before she died. “She came home for an
hour and she saw her puppies, little brother
Louie and her sister Ruby,” Hayley’s father,
Mark Okines, told BBC News on Friday, April 3.
He added; “I think she wanted to come home to
say goodbye to everybody,” he continued. “I
think she knew that yesterday was going to be
the time.”

Children with progeria rarely live past the age of
14, often passing away from ailments that affect
the elderly, such as heart disease and stroke.
Hayley was told she would not live past the age
of 13, but in 2007, the teenager began
undergoing pioneering treatment at Boston
Children’s Hospital, US, as part of the first
clinical trial for the condition.

In September 2012, the trial was a success.
In a statement following Hayley’s death, the
Progeria Research Foundation (PRF) praised
the teenager for her contribution to progeria
research:

“The entire PRF community mourns the loss of
one of our shining stars, Hayley Okines. Hayley
was one of the first participants in the ongoing
progeria clinical trials. Hayley was a pioneer –
and one of the reasons that we now have the
first treatment for progeria. Today we
remember her tremendous courage and
determination,” the statement said.
Hayley was an avid campaigner for progeria
awareness, hailed locally and nationally as an
inspiration for people with and without the
condition. The teenager wrote two books
detailing her experiences of living with progeria
– “Old Before My Time” and “Young at Heart”
– and took part in numerous interviews.

The news of Hayley’s death comes just 15
months after it was announced Sam Burns, a
boy from Massachusetts, United States had
died from progeria. He was 17 years old too.
Progeria is caused by an abnormal protein in
the LMNA gene, called progerin, which
interferes with the production of lamin A – a
protein that stabilizes a cell’s nucleus.
